With whispers of an impending siege swirling, the Mortons are catapulted into a high-stakes game of survival. Their last resort is a stroke of strategic a calculated demolition of the riverbank to unleash a flood that could wash away their assailants. Yet, with such a perilous operation, one wrong move could spell disaster for everything they hold dear.
Normally I listen and read to what I call cosy survival stories, so not too violent and graphic. This one is about 90% what I would call safe survival but there are so graphic descriptions when the gangs get involved in some massacres. Overall it was a good listen and I enjoyed the various family groups trying to get back to the homestead. Loved how they worked out the ending - poetic justice. It was very well narrated and I could just listen to this narrator narrate a phone book she does narrations so well.
I love the fact that this story did not take two or three books to conclude. The storyline was good and the characters were great. Shoutouts to firemen, Vets, old people, moms, teenagers, and the young for planting a great idea in the minds of adults. Great teamwork.
Sitting here, reading this book on my phones Kindle App, I think "Would it be so bad?" No technology, no instant misinformation, nor keyboard warriors and instant videos depicting the state of the world.
Book and writing were good. Somewhat predictable at times but a good story anyway. Sequel? I'd read it.
Lovable, believable characters. Also some stupid bad guys. Once I got used to the writing style, I really enjoyed it. Lot of things happening at the same time. I almost skipped forward a chapter or two, wanting to stay in the current action! Looking forward to reading more from Robert J Walker.
This was really great! I did really enjoy all of it, a great idea, well written, interesting scenarios & good pace & action through the story! What more you want from a book in this genre! I will look for more by this writer & I do recommend!
A great story full of interesting characters. An EMP attack, a flood and a crooked sheriff who caters to the drug cartel wreak havoc on a small community.
Pacing was great. Enjoyed the characters and the imagery. Was definitely rooting for our homesteaders to save the day. There were a few conversations that were really bad and repetitive but besides that, I thought it was a well told story. I learned a little bit too.
