Stella has found the man of her dreams. Things seem too good to be true. Is David the perfect husband, always protecting her, or is he controlling and domineering? To make matters worse, men are turning up dead and mutilated. Could it be the work of a serial killer? Why is David acting mysterious and suspicious? So many questions fill this fast-paced and twisty plot that kept me on the edge of my seat racing to the shocking conclusion. Thank you Booksprout for my copy.

I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via Zooloos Book Tours as part of the book tour.

The Hollow Husband is one of the best books by Cole Baxter that I've read yet! This book is such a twisty turney read that kept me on my toes until the very end.
We follow Stella, who's madly in love with her husband David, but is he too good to be true? Stella's best friend tries isn't convinced he's as good as he seems, but Stella won't hear a negative word. When Stella becomes pregnant, David begins to change, but not in a good way. When a serial killer begins targeting good-looking men, including men, that Stella knows alarm bells start ringing. Especially when footage of someone who looks just like David appears on the news! Secrets begin to unfold, and nothing is what you expect! This was such a good read and kept me hooked from chapter one.

I really hate rating a book like this as 2* is not great and to be honest there was nothing ‘wrong’ with this book per se; it was just odd. I felt that the title led you astray as did the blurb (again this is fine) but I felt the premise of the book I thought I was going to be reading was so much better than the book I did read. No real character development and a wishy washy story.

Sometimes I find reading standalone books when you’re read quite a few series in a row/new releases in series you’ve already read means you rate a bit harsher as you are comparing to characters who are much more rounded and well known to you.

Still not sure on my rating but I’m going to stick to it 😂

My inner devious child peeked out this week and I got a bit jealous ! Whoa! I would love to say that is unlike me but who am I kidding. I can be a jealous brat 🤗

So, I saw “The Hollow Husband”, literally break bookstagram this week and of course I didn’t want to feel left out so I requested it on Netgalley .

Cue the little magic ding ding in my inbox and I see my big ole eyes get wide as I stare at my approval ! Yay ! I’m still a cool kid !

Now, who has a punching bag for me to borrow ? I want to murder David! You bad bad boy ! You weren’t spanked enough as a child .

This is a book with character you love to hate! Filled with twists and turns at every corner the amount of suspense kept me on edge the entire time ! I flippin’ loved this book!

So, what did I do ? I ordered a copy of The Hollow Husband . This little firecracker of an author sure does know how to write one hell of a suspenseful thriller .

Five Stars, duh ! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

So far-fetched as to be ridiculous. No police detective is going to allow a civilian to view a heinous crime scene. Poorly written and not believable in many ways.

Oh I do love a Cole Baxter book you just disappear into it - he writes proper thrillers that just absorb you. Yes there are strange plot points - but who cares when you just want pure escapism.
He is one of my go to authors when I just want 'cheering up' and escaping from life.

This book was no different, not going to do the plot as others do it better but just loved the idea of it.

I was given a free copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

Can I get the 2 1/2 hours I just spent back?

This is my first time actually reviewing a book and I read a ton. This was one of the most predictable and ridiculous premises I have ever read. I felt like this was a plot of a very bad “B” rated movie or something that a junior high school boy would have written. The gore was unnecessarily graphic, the plot twist was pathetically done and the verbiage used during it also read like a juvenile wrote it. I honestly finished the book just because I hate starting books and not finishing them, but this was one I wish I hadn’t finished as it was almost intolerable. I would not consider this a “gripping psychological thriller” as it’s billed, nor would I recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre of fiction.

This is a typical "popcorn" thriller - nothing too dark or exciting, but one that's sure to be a hit with the mainstream. It was pretty predictable and the author was very clearly pointing you in one direction in an attempt to mislead you. I found a few things very implausible....What kind of person doesn't Google their new amore in this day and age? And a detective letting a civilian into an active crime scene? Sorry, not buying it. And the MC did some things that just didn't strike me as natural within the storyline. Overall it was ok, but I kept rolling my eyes while reading.

I'm not sure why there's no synopsis on Goodreads; I got this as an arc from NetGalley so I read the description on there to know I wanted to read it.

It's basically a thriller about a controlling husband who definitely gives off "I'm hiding something" vibes. At the same time, a serial killer is on the loose and in Stella's mind, all signs point to the killer being the husband.

I'm really sick of the 'police involve a member of the general public in a murder investigation' troupe, but it was over the top ridiculous in this book. There are men being brutally murdered and the lead detective is letting the main character see the crime scenes and go talk to witnesses with him? If it happened once or twice maybe I could have let it slide, but it was with every single victim, so it was hard for me to overlook.

Overall, I enjoyed the story, but it was just a bit too ridiculous for me.

In all honesty, I couldn't even finish this book. I was already turning my nose up early on when Stella was shocked another woman dared to disagree with her husband in public. GASP! Then she easily talks her way onto a gruesome crime scene where the lead detective gives her a full run down on the victim and the murder. We then get to hear his inane theories while the true crime buff tells us all why SHE is the better detective and understands the killer far better than him. Oh but don't worry, she only tells her husband everything and she's sure he won't tell anyone.

Stella is so enamored with her husband David she even feels bad for her friend who was recently in an abusive relationship it’s her best friend who also thinks there’s just something a little off about David but Stella doesn’t see it. He loves her, he is thoughtful and considerate and even defense her love of everything True Crime. When she becomes pregnant they couldn’t be happier but David starts to change and not for the better things get even worse when the serial killer who has been killing attractive men around town starts taking out people Stella knows and to make matters worse when a police artist drawing of the perpetrator is shown on the news it looks very similar to her husband David. there is something that wasn’t mentioned in the summary that I really wish I could put in my review because it’s mentioned at the beginning of the book and throughout but because it wasn’t mentioned I won’t say and it’s a big plot twist this was a great book and a book I highly recommend I love Cole Baxter‘s books some more than others but this one I absolutely love it it was so good! I definitely recommend this to any thriller fan. Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

This is the second book I read from this author and I loved it ! Told from Stella's POV throughout, I thought I had it figured out since the beginning as the victims start piling up. But wow, I didn't see the twist at the end ! It broke my heart and at the same time, it was a great ending. Thanks for the dad's comment about pregnancy, that made me LOL. Totally recommend.

Thanks to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.

The book has been narrated from Stella’s POV. It’s a psychological thriller. And it will keep you guessing till the end. The author has added a good amount of suspense.

Stella found her dream man but she has questions in her mind. Stella is a marketing specialist while David and his twin have their own Tech company. Stella is happy with David. He is a good husband, he protects her from her ex too.

But suddenly men turns up dead, their mysterious deaths raise innumerable questions in Stella’s mind and serial killer is on loose. Being a fan of true crime stories, her mind go to dark places and she keeps thinking about the serial killer and unexpected deaths. Will she get to the bottom of the serial killer’s mystery? The ending was shocking.

2stars bc I finished it even through all my head shaking and eye rolling. The FMC is a marketing executive, so why exactly was she allowed to trample through gruesome murder scenes with the blessing of the police? Why exactly was the chief detective so flummoxed that he needed a MARKETING EXECUTIVE to help him figure out a serial killer????????!

That’s just the crux of what’s wrong with this very loosely plotted story, but just in case you still want to read it I won’t spoil it further.

This book is essentially about a serial killer, and boy, was it graphic! Stella was newly married working in marketing but was also an amateur, hobby crime enthusiast. Her husband put off strange vibes at times, putting her on edge. The main detective was her friend and allowed her to go to the crime scenes (which would never happen) and be apart of the investigation. The pace was steady and held my interest throughout. Despite the graphic scenes, it was an easy read.

Shockingly bad writing and themes. So, because he only killed once and because he was controlling and jealous to “protect” you because he “loves” you, that means he’s a good guy?

This didn’t clear a very very low bar.

Jeez Louise I feel like I have gone through the wringer. To be, by miles, this is my favourite book by Cole. He tricked me completely with the identity of the killer. My mind was set from the beginning and boy did I get it wrong!

Stella is an intriguing character, she loves her true crime with her dad and somehow gets involved with the investigation of the murders. These were some grisly deaths!! I could feel Stella’s sickness!! They were brutal, the shuddering type and you kinda didn’t want to read the words in front of you. With each murder they find, her sanity is pushed to the limits as she begins to question who she can trust.

This book is addictive and compelling!! Completely!!! It hooked me in from the first page and didn’t let go of me. I was obsessed with the cases the same way Stella was and tried to solve them with her. Just expect the unexpected, nothing is what it seems.

I loved it!! This is definitely his best book and will keep you turning those pages late into the night.

I felt like an 8th grader wrote it. It was so hokey. None of the characters were likable in the least and the ridiculousness of a detective (and his boss) allowing Stella to walk right into the crime scenes (both of which she just "happened upon") was just too much for me. Not to mention, bringing her to another crime scene and to to question a victim in a safe house. I experienced anger that I purchased this book and totally wasted my precious reading time. Unfortunately, I cannot start a book and not finish it or I would have thrown it right in the trash almost immediately. (I gave it one star for the cover graphics)

The narrative is repetitive and childish. The protagonist is unrealistic, they would never have access to crime scenes as the story suggests. She also doesn't really have any friends, choosing to share info with her boss. There were also so many irrelevant details about boring mundane events and the food they were eating which I was expecting plot twists on given the effort dedicated to them. I am generally a fan of the genre but this one was boring, though not as predictable as I first thought - a totally unrelated curve ball.

This was a decent read. A few pieces were a little *unbelievable* (like a detective letting a friend look through a crime scene before CSI got there, and sharing details about an active serial killer case), but it was an enjoyable read. A bit graphic at times, but I feel like it was necessary to draw a full picture of just how gruesome these murders were. Stella and David are married, David has a twin brother Dalton. David doesn’t want to talk about his past, his dad is voluntary in an asylum, and his mother was murdered. When their little town starts having a few gruesome murders, Stella starts to do some amateur sleuthing and try to get to the bottom of it. People around her start going missing, or end up dead, and she starts to wonder if her husband or brother-in-law may be involved. Her suspicion grows once she finds out she is pregnant, and David starts to go overboard with controlling her every movement.

I love when I think I have a book figured out and it just goes in some wild direction I didn’t see coming. I assumed this book was about an abusive husband and Stella would be getting out from under his thumb by the end of the book. Nope! This book went in some surprising directions. I really enjoyed this one and it was hard to put down. I hated one part of the ending and wish it didn’t happen. With all the unbelievable parts of the book, a happier ending would have been preferred but over all it was a great, fast paced story with a lot of twists and turns. Thank you to NetGalley for my advanced copy

I thoroughly enjoyed this book it captured me from the very beginning till the very end.
It's a very gripping read that sends you on a roller coaster ride of trying to solve who.
I was convinced it was the one I suspected, then thought it was someone else, and so it went on until the end, and I never did get it right. Especially with the unexpected twists.
It's a gripping, well written storyline and plot with very strong characters, which the author does a great job of bringing to life.
There are secrets, revelations and twists, and turns that bring a very unexpected end conclusion .
This is a most enjoyable book I would recommend, but be warned, it's hard to put down.

Dark, twisted, disturbing, and graphic, this book is all of that and then some. It makes you question what you think you already knew and loads you up with doubt. The farther i got into the book, the more i thought i had it but didn't. I never saw the reveal coming. This was such an awesome book.

This author will always be one of the best writers ever. Stella is recently engaged to David, but she is getting stalked by a ex, an obsessed ex. There are people who are being murdered in their town. The story goes from there. It is fast paced, a lot of secrets, twists and turns. It is quite a dark story, with some gruesome sections, absolutely fantastic. I read this in a day and a half, I was obsessed. The author had tricked me once again with the culprit, I was completely shocked.
A phenomenal book by a brilliant author.

This is my fifth Baxter read and I am becoming a firm fan of everything this author writes!
Psychological Thrillers are definitely my favourite genre and the twistier the better.

This one really caught my attention as it features Stella as our main character, who becomes obsessed with the news that there is a serial killer on the loose in the area.
A classic true crime fan, she starts to investigate the details but soon becomes fearful that one of the sketches of the killer, looks just like her husband!!

I loved Stella! She was so easy to relate to as she was so like me! Obsessed with needing to know what makes people tick and why they do what they do.
I mean, I'm not so keen on the bodies side of things ...and these were pretty gory murders.....but the evidence and forensics fascinate me - along with just needing to know what motivates someone to do that to another human being.
Following this from her perspective was refreshing and exciting.

This, as ever, totally hooked me in from the first page to the last ....and I struggled to put this down until I had all the answers.

I had no clue who to trust at all and even though I had some suspicions ....I didn't get it right!!

I love that "edge of seat" - slightly uncomfortable feeling when reading this genre and I get this every time with this author.
Cannot wait to see what's in store for their next book offering.
