Sarah Lennox had her life arranged down to the last minute - but that was before she discovered she was pregnant and that her fiancé was a jerk.

Not sure what to do next, she heads to Firefly Glen, the quiet little town that was once a haven for her. After she arrives, though, she fins upheaval in the disconcerting presence of Sheriff Parker Tremaine - a man who can almost make her forget that she's a recently ditched, slightly desperate and undeniably pregnant schoolteacher.

About the author

Kathleen O'Brien

Since the day Harlequin bought her first novel, Kathleen has published more than 30 titles with them- everything from hot, sexy contemporaries to dark, brooding suspense. Read in more than 30 countries and 29 languages, she's a five-time finalist for the prestigious RWA RITA Award, a winner of the Maggie Award, and a three-time finalist for Romantic Times' Reviewer's Choice.

Kathleen comes from a family of writers, poets, and journalists- though she may be the one shameless romantic in the bunch. A true Cancer, she values home and family above everything and wouldn't dream of ditching a single friend, memory, gift, or love letter. Consequently, her office is a mess, full of books, colored cut glass, photo albums, Madame Alexander dolls, and a cockatiel who whistles the theme from "The X Files." She is addicted to Mozart and Elvis, Dancing With the Stars, Dorothy Dunnett novels, and sugar-free Popsicles.

I generally like this author.

I was annoyed at the end that the heroine committed a pet peeve of mine. The father of her baby, while not wanting to be involved, is willing to pay child support and she refuses it. First of all, you’re owed that money. Refusing doesn’t make you a saint. Taking it doesn’t make you a bad person. It’s money you’re entitled to. And secondly, it’s not like the heroine is rich and doesn’t need the money. Your child can’t eat your pride. Your pride doesn’t put clothes on your child’s back or a roof over their head. Your child shouldn’t go without just so you can prove what a badass you supposedly are. So many people drowning because they can’t get the child support they need and deserve and you’re going to refuse it like it’s some kind of moral high ground? Ugh.

Sarah Lennox, from Florida, escapes to the comfort of her Uncle Ward's house in the Adirondacks after learning that she is pregnant with her ex-fiance's child. An instant attraction to Parker, the handsome divorced sheriff confuses Sarah as she tries to sort out her real feelings about the baby and Parker. First in the Firefly Glen Four Seasons series.

Fifteen cents at a used bookstore, moderately well spent. I was in the mood for "winter in a small town," and that's what this was. The town was cliched, sure, but that's ok because that's what I was in the mood for. Crotchety old people, teenage hijinks, and a Winter Carnival. Meanwhile, Our Heroine has been dumped by a horrible cad (right after she found out she was pregnant), and takes her shame with her to this charming town in upstate NY. She is pretty sure she will be fired from her teaching job when the school finds out she's pregnant.

In 2001. Okey doke.

Plot holes aside, the reason I didn't like this more was because the hero & heroine were boring. She was perfect. He was perfect. There was no real tension. I really don't mind silliness in plotting for pregnancy Harlequins...silliness is part of their charm. Morning sickness as plot device! But stories of nice people falling in love nicely in nice towns...not for me.

This was a pretty good book. I enjoyed reading it and would like to read more in this series. I liked the characters and the personalities. It has some angst, some self-discovery, a little suspense, plenty of spunk and gruffness, a good plot, a good setting (gotta love the small town grapevines), a little confusion and frustration, and a HEA. I would like to see how some of the other characters end up too. A good read for pretty much any time or for the cuddle/snuggle girly read. Enjoy
