Father Carlos Martins is a leading exorcist of the Catholic Church. Throughout his two decades of ministry and service, he has helped set people free all over the world. Loved this one! Love the whole story of St Jude, made the relic of his I saw this fall mean even more. St Jude, Apostle of the Impossible, Pray for us.
A quick overview of what is known of this Saint/apostle/relative of Jesus. There were some parts that could benefit from better explanation. Also, the price is very steep…likely used to fund the relic tour but, if so, this should be explained.
If you’ve ever wondered why there’s so many hospitals named after Saints (especially St. Jude Children’s Hospital), then this little book is a great start.
This little book isn’t meant to encompass every possible story or fact about St. Jude, but it gives the casual reader an abridged summary on what makes this Saint so special.
If you’re able to, I would highly encourage anyone (whether or not you have faith in God) to visit the relic of St. Jude during its tour in America.
Great little biography, especially for a non-denominational Christian like myself, trying to understand and appreciate more about the Roman Catholic tradition.
My biggest takeaway… Protestantism has incorrectly assumed that Catholics use charms (relics) and worship dead church leaders (saints). I now see this as misinformed.
I now recognize relics as a vehicle for which God acts supernaturally through natural means. Proving they are actually relics is something I see as a challenge and limitation, but that is outside the scope of this book.
In regard to Saints, one is simply asking a friend that is strong in the faith (but happens to be dead) to pray for you. I ask people to pray for me all the time. Why wouldn’t I ask a Holy person that I’m confident is now with The Lord to pray for me on my behalf. This is a compelling argument for praying/petitioning to Saints.
I still can’t wrap my head around the biblical veracity or necessity of plenary indulgences. Going to dig up 2 Maccabees to see what Fr. Martins is talking about.
All that said, this Protestant visited St John’s Catholic Church to see the arm of St Jude when Fr. Martins brought it on tour to my town. It was a beautiful and moving experience and I’m glad to have taken part.
A concise history of who St. Jude is and his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Prayers and information about his relics making a pilgrimage during 2023-2024 at the end. Our church hosted a visit which was really wonderful and special. My family was grateful for the opportunity.
