An ambulance rushed her away to the emergency room at a local hospital. Her life was forever changed in that moment.
In this powerful memoir and inspirational self-help guide, Kimberly Muka Powers shares her triumphant story of living with bipolar type one with psychotic features. Humbled by this life-altering diagnosis, she learns to rise above the setbacks of her illness and empowers others to do the same.

Kimberly Powers shares her painful story of facing severe mental illness, her fears, her courage to not only cope but persevere in her career choice to counsel others with this diagnosis. She writes in a conversational style, interesting and easy to follow her experiences, emotions, treatments and her reliance on her Christian faith. I especially appreciated her kind yet assertiveness pastors who regarded mental illness as only a spiritual condition, or whose congregations did a poor job of making those so afflicted feel welcome. The book hits its goal of increasing empathy and understanding. My favorite line is about her attitude after recovering from episodes of psychoses, hallucinations or paranoia is : "Every time I find healing, I meet Jesus all over again." I highly recommend this book. If you do not have mental health problems, statistics say you know (or will meet) someone who does.
We as a family of 4 with 7 grandchildren are so proud of her strength and gentle loving spirit
I would recommend this book to anyone seeking Gods guidance and direction in all areas of your life. I love sitting with her and hearing her views and I see how she lives her life! She is a gift that all that are lucky enough to have her in our lives are so deeply blessed with her
A Mind Restored is brave retelling of the realities of living with mental illness- the difficulties but also the hope and healing. I’m so proud of my sister-in-law, Kim Muka Powers, for sharing her story and breaking free from the shame and stigma of living with mental illness. She’s one of the wisest people I know. Her thought provoking book helped me better understand mental illness, and reminded me of the hope and healing that can be found.
