Kate Callaghan is an Irish author who writes adult fantasy, romantic suspense, and feel-good Christmas romance. She’s the creator of the Hellish Fairytale series, blending dark magic and intrigue, as well as festive romcoms like The Naughty or Nice Clause. Whether she’s spinning tales of dangerous love or cozy holiday magic, you’ll find her in a Dublin café with an iced coffee, plotting her next twist.
If I could give this ALL the stars, I would! Kate is such an amazing author and has painted such beautiful pictures with her words. I'm sad that this is the last book in the series, I will miss Lucifer, he was a hard ass and I loved him. Kate, I say this with love, you did me dirty killing Luci.
This has been a fantastic adventure and I'm so happy I was able to be along for the journey.

I have been anxiously awaiting the conclusion to Klara’s story for.... ok I haven’t been waiting that long but I have been anxious to know how this amazing trilogy was going to end!
This review will prob be the hardest one I have written this year as I don’t want to give anything away, but I also want to scream about it at the top of my lungs. It is so hard to find a series that genuinely gets better and better as the books continue. Kate has done just that, every time I turn around the stakes are higher, the betrayal is more ruthless, and the compete transformation of the characters Is phenomenal.
Klara is immaculate in her role for this third and final installment. Throughout this series she has had one of the best character growth and development I have seen in a MC in a very very long time. Her personality is snark and dark humor in a way that connects with my soul. She also has this morally grey area that I love about her, one that I think a lot of people can identify with. Her innate nature for blood and ruin slowly gravitates to a more compassionate and loving side, which is great as long as her enemies remember her bite is much much worse than her bark. I feel like there is so much more that I could say..... I could tell you how fun the world building has been, how vibrant and crazy the realms that have been created are. I could go into detail that the supporting cast is given just as much love and attention to bring them into the story full circle instead of being forgettable background noise…..
Honestly tho what I am going to tell you is to go pick up this trio and find out for yourself.
This is the last book in this incredible fascinating series and it's an unbelievable dramatic and phenomenal conclusion of Klara’s hellish story.
This book begins a few weeks after the dramatic cliffhanger from book #2 🤯 and with a very frustrated Klara. Her only thought and motto in life is to survive the punishment imposed by her father. But as always in Klara’s life, her impatience is her biggest enemy. Doubts about the future plague her every day and she is in a very bad shape, but fortunately she is not alone. She just needs to learn to rely on other people. She needs to learn to be a queen and act with sharp intellect and not her feelings and hot temper.
I'm in love with this series 🥰
Klara is an unbelievable strong and badass heroine. It's amazing to see her growing in the queen, that she always has been, but had so many doubts about her skills, that they stopped her from opening herself to it.
This book is a dramatic, suspenseful, full of twist and turns story that will take your breath away. It's an action-packed page-turner with so many unexpected actions, brutal, but fascinating events that will make you dizzy.
I couldn't stop reading it 😍
In this book are so many wonderful creatures, that needs their own stories! I hope that we will read about some of them soon 😏
Four and a half Phew what an ending and if I'm blunt I'm really glad the author ended it here because with manipulative Fae and wicked Demons in play I honestly didn't want Klara to be pushed into a corner anymore. She's a fabulous, caring character who just doesn't listen and jumps in both feet together which sadly means those around her frequently are one if not two steps ahead of her. As this book begins Klara is magically trapped in her own castle but her few remaining allies want to help . However in this world were so many lie and cheat to get the upper hand just who if anyone can Klara really trust ? Oo this was a joy to read with both answers and surprises along the way. I had to remind myself of just how young Klara still is (19 I believe) as she's experienced so much in her short life. Klara knows what it is to lose those she loves and yet still rushes headfirst into loving and nurturing others no matter how she might struggle. A steadfast, determined heroine is always fun to read about but I liked that the author muddied the waters a little with companions who might or might not be on her side. I think it's true to say though that with a family like hers Klara really doesn't need any more enemies ! A satisfying conclusion and the possibility of more stories set in this world makes this reader very happy. This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
3.5 stars Finally got round to this one after having it on my shelf since release! Probably should've reread book 2 but still enjoyed all the plotting and intrigue! Didn't expect the ending!
I've been waiting to read this book for months, there was such a huge betrayal and cliffhanger at the end of book 2! Book 3 starts off a few weeks after the end of 2, it was as angsty as expected 😂
Klara took a fall at the end of book 2. But in this book, she rose up stronger than ever and truly became the Queen she wanted to be. This book was full of action and suspense and alliances, plus a dash of romance, and it was awesome! It ends perfectly, with amazing endings for all the main and secondary characters, and proper resolutions for all the standing sub plots. It was completely fun to read!
And yess, as the author mentioned in her page, she's not ready to leave the world of Malum and Kalos, and neither am I! I'm excited to see what stories the future holds for these lands! ❤️
If you like reading YA fantasy, I definitely recommend this trilogy! It's extremely gripping and fast paced and cool! 🖤
What a ride it's been! Wasn't sure what to expect from a book series where the main character is being trained and set up to inherit Hell. Klara, our protagonist, starts out really conflicted between what she wants and what is expected of her. But throughout all three books we see her grow into who she always was.
Where Traitors Rise is the final book (although is it the end?) and has everything you could want plotting, beheadings, and stolen hearts!
Klara recently being kept captive in her castle after the events of Where Traitors Fall schemes to free herself and save Malum from the clutches of the Fae Queen who also happens to be her mother.
I really enjoyed this trilogy and would reccomed it to anyone who likes an alternative cool type of hero.
Wow, just wow! This book was perfect! Each book within the series just gets better and better. Kate did not disappoint. This book is filled with loyalty, betrayal, love, courage and forgiveness. I was genuinely hooked from the very first page and I hated putting it down! Klara has grown considerably throughout this series, in this book, she has grown even more. Even though this book is dark and filled with action, Kate has an amazing way of bring humour into the story through the characters and I loved that!
Overall I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to the author for a copy of this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
When Traitors Rise was the last book in this trilogy and I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed this read.
Plot
After the ending of the second book, Klara is now caged in her own castle after destroying the factory and freeing the creatures trapped within. However, she is determined to free herself and call upon her allies. The fae queen, Aemella is preparing to invade her lands and the dark fae living there are an increasing threat.
This book was best of the three. The plot here was really good and I thought it was fast paced. The actions, the plans and ending were really good.
Characters
Klara
So good to see how much she grew in this book. She is a strong ruler, who truly loves Malum and the creatures who live in the forest. She is compassionate, but sometimes ruthless, but she truly cares about the people she loves and would anything to protect them.
Frendall
He was better in this novel. We can see that he loves Klara very much and would do anything to help her.
Lucifer
I always liked his character. I'm sad by what happened by the end of the novel, but I love how the author portrayed the love he felt for Klara and Mila. He truly loved them, only in his twisted way.
Aemella
I feel she needed a bit more of development. She wasn't bad by any means, but I couldn't connect with her.
Lottie
Lottie was so cute and I love how she grew in this novel.
Mila
I hated Mila in book one, but I actually liked her in this one. She was sarcastic and well, we can see she was Lucifer's daughter as well. I loved the relationship she had with Klara here.
Writing
The writing was good and the reader can see how much Kate grew as a writer here. The author told she would like to write more books in this world and I'm actually excited to see more.
World-Building
It was really good. The author spent a lot of time writing about the court politic. We know how each creatures lives and their respective elders. We also learned more about magic and the fae.
Romance
The romance was good. I was happy by the ending and I liked Frendall and Klara romance. I wish, however, we could have more moments between them.
Final Thoughts
It was a good and quick read. I look forward to read more books in this world.
My ratings and reviews for the other books in this trilogy.
SPOILERS FOR THE PREVIOUS BOOKS IN THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH Klara has freed the creatures trapped in the fae queen's factory, but she's now locked in her castle by her father. Many enemies remain, and Klara fears the King is being influenced by the Queen still. To face the threats, she must break free and gather her allies, but she's too heartbroken by Frendall's betrayal. An invasion is coming, and she needs to free Lottie from the wolves. At the brink of war, Klara has no choice but to bind herself to a man she despises...
I didn't think it was possible to top the last one, but this book was even better! I adored every second of it. It was full of action and danger, and the plot thickened enthrallingly. I loved how Klara dealt with all the threats looming over her, and how her allies reacted to her plan, a plan that blew my mind because of how clever and detailed it was. I'm still in awe of Klara's resourcefulness and admire her even more now that I've read her whole story. I'll admit that I'm a bit sad that it's over now. The writing was exquisite, beautiful and addictive, making the story increase in pace and intensity. I had no idea what the next chapter would bring and the author entertained me with plot twists that surprised me. I loved how detailed the world was, with all the creatures and the complex politics. I usually don't like when there's a lot of political intrigue, but it didn't bother me one bit in this one because of how enthralling and breathtaking it was. I absolutely love this trilogy and really look forward to reading Kate's next books because I know for certain that she will continue to blow my mind with amazing plots, fascinating worlds and amazing characters.
I highly recommend this trilogy to YA fantasy readers!
"Some of us don't deserve to be happy. Some of us have to pay for whatever we've done."
Well with this series, you never quite knew who to trust and you honestly had no idea what Kate was going to through at the characters.
This was the ending to the series that I and the characters needed and deserved! It was satisfying, while sacrifices were made, which always makes me happy. When there have not been sacrifices and everything ends up peachy, squeaky clean, I'm not always satisfied.
The ending of book two left us with the biggest betrayal and cliffhanger and I honestly didn't know how Klara was going to get around that and deal with it. She has a lot on her shoulders and at the end of the day, she just wants what is best for the creatures of the Malum.
Klara was such a Queen in this book, she honestly stepped into that role she has been trying to fill from book 1 and she does this so spectacularly in this book. Full of action, romance, temptation, suspense and revelations along the way, this book has everything everyone would love. What I honestly loved most was the fact that all questions felt like they had been answered, I wasn't left wondering 'hang on a minute, if that means this, then why did this happen'...you know what I mean!
This is on the darker side of YA fantasy, but so enjoyable, even for 30 year old me. There is romance and some suggestions of spice, fade to black style...but it is not the whole focus and I felt was secondary to the plot. YES! Perfect!
I am excited to see what Kate Callaghan has up her sleeves for future books, I enjoyed her writing and I want to thank her for the Arc! :D
Oh wow what an incredible ending to A Hellish Fairytale series.
I didn’t think this series could get any better after reading the first book, but I was wrong and I absolutely loved When Traitors Rise. This story was filled with suspense, betrayal, romance and lots of twists and turns.
This series only got better and better with every book, and I was very excited to jump right back into this story after the major cliffhanger in Where Traitors Fall (2nd book) that had made on the edge of my seat yearning for more. And Kate Callaghan definitely didn’t disappoint with the ending to this series because I just couldn’t put it down.
I loved Klara and her development throughout this series has been amazing. She is a total badass who fights for what she believes in and also for those she cares about. Besides getting to know Klara, we got to know the side characters, who helped her along the way and her enemies as well. I liked how much depth there was to their stories and characters.
I definitely recommend others to read this series. I can’t wait to see what the future brings for Kate Callaghan’s work because I’m honestly looking forward to reading more of her work.
Thank you to Kate Callaghan for an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
I received this free eARC novel from the author. This is my honest review.
This was really a great series. I love the twists and turns, the unexpected events that were always popping up, and the characters. I think Lucifer is my favorite. His storyline really shows that you can't judge a person's morals, no matter how well you think you know them.
Klara is a survivor and really is a good person. I love seeing her fight for what she believes, even if it looks like she could never win.
I'm glad I finally got around to reading this series and I'm curious what other stories Kate Callaghan will come up with next!
Brilliant conclusion to the trilogy. Kate knocked it out of the park with When Traitors Rise. I enjoyed every moment reading it. Klara has become one of my top favourite heroines. Her character grows so much through the series, learning from past mistakes and embracing her destiny. Being queen doesn't come easy to her, but with the help of those who truly love her she becomes the ruler Malum always needed. This book is definitely a page turner, with fast-paced action, mesmerizing world building, diverse characters and twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Each book in this series has been even better than the one before it so I highly recommend it!
Wow, what a spectacular end to the trilogy. Absolutely loved being back with Klara, Frendall, Lottie and the gang. Especially love all the twists and turns of the politics of the realms and how Klara is a not your average helpless heroine, but a kickass Queen. So glad to hear there will be more from the realms, focusing on different characters! Can't wait to get the paperback to add to my awesome indie author shelf. Heartily recommend!
[I recieved an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.]
My journey with Klara and her friends has come to an end and while I am eager to see where my next bookish adventures will take me, I can't help but feel sad about saying goodbye to these characters.
This book was a rollercoaster of a ride –full of twists and turns.
The only thing that I was kind of unsatisfied with was the ending as I felt that it was a bit rushed.
