His bid for a second chance this Christmas might lead to her most disastrous fall yet.
Police officer Graham Lockhart’s life is dangerous enough without accident-prone Piper Wells tripping around in it—at least that’s what she claimed when she declined his marriage proposal two years ago. But he can’t help but wonder if there is more to her refusal.
Piper always cared for Graham, but she is incapable of giving him the one thing he wants more than anything—family. All her orphaned self knows about that is how much it hurts to lose. She’s better off focusing on caring for her nephew and running her business. Secondhand furniture doesn’t break hearts.
When an injury sidelines Piper leading into the holidays, Graham steps up to help her keep her commitment to a Christmastime auction benefiting a local family. Can they overcome the hurdles between them, or will the past and their warring hopes and fears trip them up for good?
Visit Redemption Ridge, Colorado and enjoy the faith, friendships, and forever-afters of the Christmas in Redemption Ridge series of Christian romance.
This series is a spin-off continuation of the best-selling Heroes of Freedom Ridge Series with all new characters and traditions, but the same magic of community and romance readers love.
Emily Conrad writes contemporary Christian romance that explores life’s relevant questions. Though she likes to think some of her characters are pretty great, the ultimate hero of her stories (including the one she’s living) is Jesus. She lives in Wisconsin with her husband and their energetic coonhound and two lop-eared bunny rescues. Learn more about her and her books at emilyconradauthor.com.
I can always count on Emily to write books with love, romance, and strong faith and “Bidding on a Second Chance” was no exception. You may think love and romance is redundant but it’s not. There was a beautiful romance between Piper and Graham, yes, but there was also strong friend, family, and community love. Which I adored.
And as with every other Emily Conrad book I’ve read (I’ve read all of them) the faith was solid. Piper had serious fear, something that held her back from living life to the fullest and living a beautiful life with Graham. She’s been through some trials and tribulations, so her fear was warranted but Graham’s reminder of “The Bible says we’ll have trouble in this world” from John 10:10 especially spoke to me since that’s my favorite verse. But Graham’s steadfast and enduring love was a beautiful reflection of Jesus loving us despite our flaws.
I loved the small town, Christmasy feel to this story and seeing the whole community come together for the auction and also for the scare at the end of the book (no spoilers 😉).
This story was so much more than a romance and second chance at forever. It was a story of healing, forgiveness. and overcoming fears, for both main characters.
This story really pulled at my heart! The author tackled some serious issues, such as abandonment, grief, worry, anxiety, and feeling unloved, just to name a few.
Graham was a wonderful man who’s heart had been broken by Piper two years earlier when she rejected his marriage proposal. He also carried hurts from abandonment as a child. Yet, he dropped everything to be there for Piper and help her when she ended up injured and needing help.
Piper lived in almost a continuous state of worry and anxiety. Her fear of losing more people she loved had caused her to try to protect her heart by living what would basically be a an emotional half life. She was not willing risk loving someone, as she was sure that something bad would happen to take them away.
Piper’s nephew, Bryce, walked around with a huge chip on his shoulder and a sort of hero worship for a father who had previously had trouble with drugs and the law. Bryce’s anger at the world and at Graham added another dimension to the struggles that Piper and Graham faced in the book.
The author did a great job at showing that there was not an easy fix to any of these emotional struggles. The characters had to learn to continually turn to God to help them slowly overcome what burdened them and not expect everything to magically be solved. The attraction and romance that began to grow between Piper and Graham was well written and felt realistic to the storyline, as well.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
“…I’m all in. I want a future with you. I want a family. I want to support each other through the ups and downs. I want to protect you in every way possible...”
When Graham receives a concerning text from his ex, his painful past with her is trudge up. Piper refused his marriage proposal two years ago and broke his heart. But now she needs help and Graham, being the stand up kinda guy he is, decides to put aside their differences and help her in her time of need.
This is my favorite cover of all the Christmas at Redemption Ridge series. Just look at how cute that Graham is! He is such a terrific character. He is easy going, has the patience of Job, is fast to lend a hand, always there for a friend, and he’s just plain adorable! He doesn’t let fear rule his life, and puts his trust in God to guide his path.
Piper has been dealt a tough hand, and because of the pain and loss she has experienced she lives a life consumed with fear and anxiety. The what-ifs stealing, not only her joy, but her future happiness. She must face her fears if she ever wants to have a life with Graham.
This is sweet, sometimes somber, second chance romance. It is a perfectly balances lightheartedness, romance and faith, while dealing serious issues of anxiety, fear, feelings of abandonment and being unwanted. Don’t worry, alls well that ends well, and you won’t be disappointed because this one ends perfectly!
Thank you to the author for my advanced copy, all opinions are my own.
A spectacular story about giving your fears over to God and living in gratefulness to Him for His blessings. Piper has bottled up fears for years and they control her. They have robbed her of peace and happiness with Graham for over two years. Graham still wants a future with her and loves her enough to walk away, if he has to, again. Throw in her nephew and his problems, it seems like a recipe for more fears. But Piper learns to let go and live with God’s help.
This is my first story by this author and I am very impressed. The spiritual themes throughout tug at your heart. I was rooting for Graham to keep trying to win Piper back and for Piper to let go and trust God. Definitely a story to revisit. The series is also great. Each one clean, wholesome, and faith-based.
I received a complimentary copy and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.
I really like the way the author wrote Graham’s character. He was such a loyal, helpful person and was willing to help with a good cause, even when it placed him in close proximity with his ex-girlfriend. Piper was also a very helpful person and was willing to put herself out to help a family in need, but there was obviously a big fear that she struggled with. This was a journey of faith and facing fears so that love could prevail. I loved that Graham tried to help Piper to overcome her fears, both by praying about the situation and by pointing Piper to trust in the Lord for every “what-if” that might come. I enjoyed seeing Graham and Piper both get through some obstacles to reach their second-chance happily-ever-after. I received a complimentary copy but was not required to leave a positive review.
Bidding on a Second Chance is the stuff of second chance romance dreams. Things went south for Piper and Graham, not because of some giant blow up or lack of caring. Piper was scared. She felt like a magnet for trouble. To be honest, to some degree she was. But instead of really facing the fear, she ran, breaking a few hearts in the process. But life brings them back together and gives them a second chance.
For a good part of the book I wanted to shake Piper. She was so fearful of so much. To a point, I get it, because anxiety can do that to you but yeesh. I did love how she really sat down to think through all the fears and what-ifs to really see the possible outcomes as all the help she could and would receive if the worst really did happen. It's always nice to see growth in second chance romances, especially when it's not because someone was a jerk leading to the break up. Those are hard to root for. This was just utter fear on Piper's part. And I loved Graham's persistent, yet gentle, pursuit of getting her heart back. He challenged her in a good way.
The conversation between Graham and Bryce towards the end of the story was so heart wrenching and heartwarming at the same time. I felt a slight sting of tears behind my eyes. It really was such a turning point for both guys and it was so rewarding. Also, the epilogue of this book was adorable and downright hilarious. Like I can't explain why because I don't want to spoil anything but it really fits with the whole vibe of the book.
Bidding on a Second Chance is a Christian, second chance romance for Piper and Graham. This is an amazing, well written book. Piper really wasn’t living her life because she existed in a constant state of fear. Both main characters had issues with abandonment so there were many issues to be overcome before there could be an HEA. When they finally put their trust in God, wonderful changes could occur. Ms. Conrad did a spectacular job of creating a realistic, believable world where things did not come easily to the characters. They had to do the hard work. I was totally engrossed in this book.
What I love about Emily’s stories is the emotional complexity of her characters. You will always learn something new about yourself or others through the characters she develops, and Graham and Piper are no exceptions. A sweet story that keeps you engaged throughout with wonderful sensory details and a fresh story line that isn’t predictable. Another good read from one of my favorite contemporary Christian authors.
Another great book in the series, this one by Emily Conrad. Graham had proposed to Piper two years ago in the local restaurant and she’d refused and left him. She had her reasons, at least she thought she was doing the right thing. Now she’s been hurt in an accident and he steps up to help. He doesn’t know if she will ever return his love, but he was born to serve so that’s what he does. *I received this book as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.
4.5 stars This was a sweet and cute book. Bidding on a Second Chance is written by Emily Conrad and it is the 6th book in the Christmas in Redemption Ridge series. I have not read any of Emily Conrad’s books befores so I was excited to try this one out. This series has also been really enjoyable so I had high hopes. Piper and Graham had history and they were trying to figure out how to get over their feelings. However when circumstances bring them together again, they are forced to deal with their feelings and each other. Both Piper and Graham were struggling. I felt so bad for them both as they tried to figure out their life. Piper had to learn to trust God even when life feels crazy. She has been through so much and it was hard for her to find peace. Graham had to learn to forgive and find his identity in Christ and not in others. The story was interesting and I liked reading about Graham and Piper reconnecting. They helped each other be better. The romance was sweet and it fit their story. They understood each other but they were trying to navigate how they were feeling. I liked the side characters too, and getting to see old characters from the other books in the series. I am hoping that there will be more books in this series. I enjoyed reading this book and I would definitely recommend it. Bidding on a Second Chance is a clean Christian Christmas romance.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
Oh, Piper. Please be careful. The scrapes she gets into are hilarious, but I feel so bad for her sometimes. And then Graham swoops in to save the day - which is his job, but still. Graham's heart is still shattered from his last encounter with Piper, and he'll save the day and risk his heart. What's left of it.
I loved Graham and Piper, and I love that Piper owns an antique store. That made for a fun setting, and a perfect play on words for the title.
Everyone deserves a second chance. It's an encouraging thought, one that is a main theme of this book.
And this book deserves a read - I sure enjoyed it! I received this book as a complimentary copy, but was not required to leave a positive review. However, this book deserves the five stars.
The problem of trust. Lack of trust drove them apart, will they have a second chance? This book deals with fear and our ability to trust God and not ourselves. It is a sweet romance with a good message. A fitting inclusion in the Redemption Ridge series.
This is the perfect cozy read for the winter holidays! Piper and Graham make such a cute couple, and their Thanksgiving through Christmas story is a wonderful read to give you all the feels going into the Christmas season. I loved watching their friendship regrow, and the themes of facing your fears, trust, family love, and -of course- second chances were woven beautifully throughout the entire story. I highly recommend all of Emily Conrad’s books, and if she is a new-to-you author then this book is a great one to get started with!
I received a complimentary copy but wasn't required to leave a positive review.
" 'I told you, I need to be sure you're not bidding on a second chance.' Was he? Undecided. No. Decided. He was not. Or ... He pushed away memories - recent ones - of how her smiles had warmed him."
Piper felt like she had no option but let Graham go. Now she needs his help to finish what she promised. And again, she feels like she has no choice. Can she learn to face her fears?
Piper has had some hard situations. As a result, she is always running scared. Overcoming anxiety is a powerful part of the book. As someone who has struggled with feeling nervous about certain situations, I feel like the author provided sympathetic yet supportive advice to the main heroine through other characters. She learned to trust God in a whole new level. I feel like there was a lot of substance in this story. My faith was impacted by this fictional work.
Based on the title, I was worried that there were going to be lots of predictable elements. While there are cheery Christmas moments, there are plenty of unexpected parts as well. Festivity does impact the book, but one could still enjoy this title anytime of the year.
This book is a part of the Redemption Ridge series. While there are overlapping characters in all of the books, the stories are independent of each other. I have read a few of the titles, and they all work as stand-alone titles. I have enjoyed and appreciated the concepts found in this series.
I was provided an advanced copy of this book. Emily is a must-read author for me. I wanted to read and review the title. All opinions are my own.
Piper had what she was sure were good reasons for rejecting Graham's proposal - but when their days of successful avoidance end after an accident leads to her unintentionally texting him for help, it's clear he's not over her and still wants answers. And the accident leaves her short-handed at the busiest time of year. He's able and eager to help, but does he want more than she's willing to give him? And were her reasons really as good as she believed - or should she reconsider her decision?
A delightful addition to the series - I was rooting for Piper and Graham to work things out from the start and loved watching them (particularly Piper) finally learn to trust. I also appreciated Graham's willingness to put effort into befriending Piper's nephew - not to mention helping her with the furniture she's restoring. A standalone read set in a shared world, meaning readers of other books in the series may meet old friends. All in all, an uplifting and inspiring story. Recommended.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
I loved this second chance romance. Graham and Piper were once a couple but Piper broke it off out of fear of pain, hardships and not being safe. They were apart for two years and now circumstances keep placing them in each other's way.
Graham was so patient and caring even though he was wary of Piper leaving him again. He understood that Piper was letting her fears control her. Learning to trust God with our lives was the faith message that Piper must learn. I love the way Emily Conrad always presents God as the answer. He won't let us down.
Highly recommend.
"Nothing's done until we're safe with our Savior. When we look back from there, we'll understand what's incomprehensible now."
Thank you to the author for the ARC. I was not required to write a positive review, the opinions above are entirely my own.
What a beautiful story. I love the continual growth in trusting God that is woven throughout this book. With how divided our country is right now, both sides fueled by fear, I think this book has a very timely message. This story was very engaging and hard to put down. The ending was just as beautiful as the story and left me grinning. This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I now plan to seek out more of her books.
I received a complimentary copy but wasn't required to leave a positive review.
I love Emily Conrad’s books! I really loved Graham’s character and the plot of this novel. He’s a handsome police officer with excellent culinary skills. Piper juggles owning a second-hand shop, refinishing furniture, being a single aunt with custody of her nephew, and raising a brand new puppy.
After being hit by a car, Piper needs help. What could go wrong with a friendly police officer helping her out? Plenty because the police officer is her ex-boyfriend, who her nephew hates because he’s the reason his dad is in prison and in his aunt’s custody.
This book has all the wonderful elements we love in small towns, second chances, and the holiday season!
Graham and Piper's broken relationship made my heart hurt. The author did a great job of making me feel what they were feeling. Love second chance books and this one is one of my favorites. Can her accident be their beginning again? A really romantic and comical ending. I received a complimentary copy but wasn't required to leave a positive review.
I've enjoyed every one of the visits I've made this year to Redemption Ridge, and I couldn't wait to try out Emily Conrad's contribution, Bidding on a Second Chance. She's a new to me author, and I was interested to see what kind of story she would bring to this charming small town. This was a lovely and heartwarming second chance romance that dove into some deeper themes, and I was left with a big smile on my face after finishing it.
Graham and Piper were head over heels in love, but circumstances caused her to give up on their hopes for happily ever after, and instead she chose to run and be content being single. When an accident causes her to need help from unexpected places, Graham is quick to volunteer. Soon it's no surprise that old feelings start to emerge, but both realize that rekindling their relationship can't happen until they've both dealt with the old hurts and insecurities that caused the failure the first time around.
As Graham and Piper work on their relationship, they'll learn the truth that only our Heavenly Father can truly heal all hurts, and we have to be able to trust Him to do so. A beautiful story about grieving, grace and redemption, Bidding on a Second Chance is a perfect illustration that none of us are perfect, and God is able to do immense things when we trust Him to turn the broken into beautiful.
I ended up being quite impressed with Emily Conrad's writing style, and the way she was so effortlessly able to weave a story that kept the reader engaged right throughout. I'll definitely be looking into reading more of her books in the future, and I'd highly recommend this one to anyone who enjoys heartwarming holiday romances that shine a light to the true reason for the season.
Final Rating: 4/5.
Another wonderful visit to Redemption Ridge, and I hope there will be more stories set in this wonderful town in the years to come.
Thanks so much to Emily Conrad for allowing me to advance read and review this title!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.
Second Chance Romance + Christmas = one happy reader 🙂
And…wait a minute…this is a whole series of Christmas stories?! Yes, please! ‘Christmas in Redemption Ridge’ is a spin-off of the ‘Heroes of Freedom Ridge’ series and both are multi-authored so the books read well independently. I haven’t read any of the other books in either series and had no issues jumping in here.
Loved the setting — Redemption Ridge is the kind of town I want to live in. Great community spirit with just enough busybodies to get things done in the reluctant romance department. 🙂 And we’re talking Reluctance with a capital R when it comes to Piper and Graham! So, be prepared for some angst before we reach that sought after happily ever after.
Piper struggles with an overwhelming fear of ‘what ifs.’ Her doomsday attitude hampers her ability to ‘let go and let God’ and just appreciate what she has in the moment instead of worrying that it might be snatched away any minute. She has legitimate reasons for feeling this way, but she has allowed fear to smother her hope for the future…and that includes having one with Graham.
But then circumstances conspire to bring these two star-crossed lovers together at the most magical time of year. It’s messy and awkward and sweet and endearing. All the key ingredients for a good romance and I really appreciated the strong inspirational message seamlessly woven all through the story.
Heartwarming and hope soaring – the perfect combination for a Christmas romance.
#BookReview: BIDDING ON A SECOND CHANCE by Emily Conrad
I have been delighted with the Christmas in Redemption Ridge series. Perhaps they'll create more spin-offs. This latest book delves into Graham and Piper's attempt to rekindle their romance. Well, maybe more on Graham’s part. He has not moved on from Piper’s refusal to marry him. Piper's fear of loss compels her to push people away. It was interesting to read how it consumed her and clouded her mind on what’s important. Fear is something we should try to stay out of. I’m glad that Piper found her faith again.
Graham completely captivated me. He embodied perfectness, radiating endless patience towards Piper. The book cover perfectly captured how I envisioned him: a joyful, patient soul dedicated to helping those in need. His interactions with Bryce were equally endearing. I was delighted to see Graham's personal growth during this time, making him even more suited to supporting Piper. He will undoubtedly be an invaluable asset in her journey towards continued healing.
I liked the author’s writing and I will definitely check out her back list.
Rating: 4.5 ⭐ Series: Christmas in Redemption Ridge Book 6 Pub date: Dec. 13, 2023
Thank you to the author for the complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
Where does one get a Graham? It's been a while since a CCR hero had me this invested in his story so fast! I love his name, the fact that he's a police officer, but especially that he's such a protector at heart! 😍 He definitely still cares about Piper, the one who got away, as evidenced by the first chapter of this story. They have shared history in the past, but things didn't work out so well due to some unresolved issues in her past. Granted, as much as I'd love to rave about him and how perfect he is, he actually isn't. While Piper needs to work on her outlook in life and what the future may hold, Graham still has some open wounds in his past that stem from his mom abandoning him. Both issues need to be addressed, they both need healing, and I loved the reminder that while community and friends can help, they're all reminders of God as the ultimate Healer. Truly, the Christian faith is one of the things I loved the most, and I definitely look forward to reading more from this author. 💕 Of course, it's always fun to be back at Redemption Ridge, and see the community come together to help one of their own (like the Krasinkis and the whole auction that kicks off all the forced time spent together for Graham and Piper.) I loved the author's descriptions and how infused with humor they were (especially when Teddy was involved), as well as her focus on family, and how fiercely Piper loved and cared for hers through the ups and downs (as was shown with her taking care of Bryce and her visits to/talks about Ryan.) A truly beautiful story that had me hooked from its first page till that satisfying ending, I can't wait to be back in this enchanting small town next year for more heartwarming stories. Now I'm wondering if Lucy will get her own story too... For the ones who are just starting this series, enjoy your visit! You're just in time for Christmas. 😉 ~ 5 stars!
I received a complimentary copy from the author but no positive review was required.
Bidding On A Second Chance is a story of love that Piper could not accept. She worried about too many "what ifs" to let life be enjoyable. Graham had asked her two years ago to marry him but she gave any reason she could not to marry him. He was a police officer in Redemption Ridge and she said his job was too dangerous. But, she knew that was just a excuse.
She gets injured and has only a few weeks to refinish several large furniture pieces to donate for the auction to help one of their own families in Redemption Ridge out of so much medical debt plus run her Second Chance business. Graham steps up to volunteer to refinish the furniture for her to meet the deadline. He talks to her about how "what ifs" would not be weighing over her if she turned them over to God. According to Piper, she doesn't think she can do that. Graham tells her to study her "what ifs" and pray about it and see if it would be better handling them alone if they happen or would it be better to handle them together while having a happy life. He tells her when he came back after Christmas he wanted an answer. All Piper wants to do is call her friend Lucy for help. Is she going to turn Graham down a second time?
Graham. I mean, it's no secret that I adore all of Emily Conrad's heroes. She writes some of the best! Graham is no exception to that rule my friends. He's strong, vulnerable, patient, kind, etc....... The perfect match for Piper.
Piper has some issues that I am so pleased Conrad touched on. I won't get too into it because you really just need to read the book, but the way Conrad touched on worries, fears, anxieties, and all of that, and how we really need to just trust and focus on the Lord. Not that those things will magically disappear, but we can be more at peace about our situations knowing who's hands they are really in. I just thought this was beautifully done. Which really is no surprise because Conrad has written some amazing and poignant faith threads before.
All in all this is a welcome addition to the Christmas in Redemption series and I am so blessed that I got to read an early copy!! Highly recommend. Also - I read it in one sitting so be prepared :) I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I was happy to see that Emily Conrad was one of the authors participating in the Christmas in Redemption Ridge series because I have been wanting to read one of her books for a while now. While this is the 6th and final (for this year anyway!) book in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone. This is a sweet second chance romance, one of my favorite tropes.
I immediately liked Graham and couldn’t understand why Piper turned down his marriage proposal two years past. The answer is that Piper lets fear drive her life. This story is about them reconnecting and Piper working through her fears. I really liked the faith thread, as I tend to be a what-if person myself. It is a great reminder that God is in control, He is good, and He will see you through whatever He allows in your life.
This story is a sweet romance and while it does take place around Christmas, I feel it could be read anytime of the year as Christmas is not the prominent theme.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. The faith thread is prominent throughout. 4 stars.

Bidding on a Second Chance by Emily Conrad Christmas in Redemption Ridge Book Six (Multi-Author) Officer Graham Lockhart had proposed publically two years ago. She’d said no. Redemption Ridge was a small town, but they’d avoided each other pretty well. Until now. Piper had been hurt, and he knew she needed to get some furniture ready for an auction to help one of the families in town. He had to help her for the sake of the family. Piper Wells was full of fear. What if’s were ruling her life instead of her trust in God. How could she marry and have children if she’d lose them? And then there was Graham in her life again. Helping after she’d been hurt. Could she overcome the fear for a second chance? I loved this story. Lovable characters that had me turning the page to see what would happen next. If you cry easily, you may want tissues nearby. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
