Westlife have had more number ones than any other artist apart from The Beatles and Elvis and with songs that have become modern classics like Flying without Wings, they have ensured their place in the annals of pop history.
Westlife – The Autobiography will chart the highs and lows of their phenomenonal career and a unique friendship that has seen them endure as a band for an extraordinary ten years. The book will chronicle the band’s story from the grass-roots of Sligo, Ireland to multi-platinum records, celebrity collaborations and chart achievements. But bubbling under this public face is a private and unseen story never before recorded, crammed with candid personal revelations, including of course the departure of Brian McFadden.
Westlife have been a staple part of British entertainment for years, yet the public has no idea of the astounding life they have led – and still live – behind the headlines and soundbites. Westlife: Our Story is a must read for any person who is a fan or was a fan of the biggest boyband to ever come out of the UK. The book, told from the different perspectives of Shane, Mark, Nicky and Kian, is written on the eve of their biggest concert in Croke Park which also coincided with their decision to take a year off. At the time the book was written, they had just celebrated 10 years together, and aside from bands like Backstreet Boys, it is not common for a boy band to reach that mile stone.
Despite the book being co-written with Martin Roach, you can almost hear the voices of each of the lads as they told the story of their rise to fame. Our Story covers everything from their childhoods in Dublin and Sligo, all the way up to the first meeting with Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell. They discuss in depth the departure of Brian McFadden as well as their love lives, marriage, children and the day that Mark came out as gay.
I was, and still am, a huge fan of Westlife. I still remember the day that I first heard Swear It Again and from that very day I was hooked. I grew up listening to their music and to this day it is one of the only bands that I can listen to on repeat. I have even gotten my kids into listening to it. I would recommend this book to any fan. I honestly couldn’t find a fault with the book at all.
To someone, this book is just a normal biography. But to a Westlife fan, like me, it's like the world summed up into pages. I bought this long time ago but I was too lazy to finish it. I set my goals for 2017 and this book was one of my goals. I love it! Absolutely love it! I didn't see myself as a fan who knows everything single thing about their lives. By reading this I discovered lots of things, for example: Cecilia Ahern is sister-in-law of Nicky (^^). I think if you are a Westlife fan and you spent your teenage dreams going insane for their news, their songs, their concerts, their images and even the fanfiction, this book is for you.
I have a little bit of an obsession with the band Westlife at the moment enjoying their songs, harmonies, interviews and live shows online. I read this biography to see if there was anything else I needed to know and found that they are just a really nice bunch of guys with loyal wives, and a love for fun. They were big drinkers at the height of their fame, going out after their shows to celebrate their successes but, then that’s really the least you would expect from young Irish men! The narration slides between each of the guys, sharing their experiences in the industry, recording, performing, touring, and ultimately staying friends throughout their years together as part of the crazy circus that is showbiz. Seems to me like they are some of the nicest, most humble guys in the music industry.
i read it in english, so i need a long time to finished. Their life journey is my motivation to fight all of my dreams. Thanks for inspiring me, still hope you'll reunite.
