This was another solid and fun instalment of V.A.Lewis’s Salvos series. The series is a fun YA LitRPG coming of age action/adventure series. It mixes the action and humour pretty well and has a fun lead character who is easy to root for despite being a demon!

This instalment was mainly just Salvos levelling and adventuring but we did get to know both Daniel and Edith a lot better over the course of this one and I definitely enjoyed that element of the story. We also got to meet a few of the other races that populate this fantasy world.

All in all this was a fun read and I’ll move right on to the next instalment of the series.

Rating: 4 stars.

Audio Note: As always Tess Irondale did a fantastic job with the narration of this series.

I think the variety on the adventure aspect of the story is very refreshing. But as an adult, the characters are horribly bland. Though the previous books had simple dialog, it was cohesive and revised. Now there appears to be multiple grammar mistakes, and a bunch of dick stroking like LitRPGs where every other line is "Ding, your dick grew by an inch, the girth is wider, the veins are more prominent" etc. And the Author lefts a note about how his feelings are hurt because some negative reviews were unfair and mean. I think the idea of this being a full time career is getting to him and the story is suffering for it. If you don't want negative reviews, don't focus just on pumping out as many chapters as you can and let the quality suffer.

Fun, but a lot of editing issues

A fun read if you can get past the syntax and grammar issues. Seven more words required. Seven more words.

STILL GOOD, BUT IT’S ‘PLAGUED’ WITH ISSUES.

I’ve said in the reviews I left for books one and two that there were some ongoing issues in the series, and that if those things did not improve by the next installment then it would likely start to impact my ratings. Unfortunately, that is now becoming the case.

I’ll talk about what I did like, first. Salvos continues to feel like a Shonen manga in the best ways, filled with great action and a trio of companions that feel like they could be slotted in perfectly to fit a manga series. The System/Evolution aspects of the books continue to work well, as well, which is really important for any LitRPG series.

That said, there is a prose problem in Salvos and it’s become only clearer here in book three, with a page count that has increased dramatically from book two. The extra length made the unrefined prose stick out even more. I get wanting to provide more with each new release in a series, truly - but when you have an issue of quality, the increase in quantity needs to be put on pause.

Furthermore, I ended up speed-reading through the last hundred and fifty pages or so, so that I could just get through the remainder of my read and take a pause. I fully intend to continue the series - this is a reread for me after all, and I certainly made it farther than this last time - but now that I’m actually watching out for things that could be improved, I was just ready for it to be over.

Hopefully, this review doesn’t put you off the series if you’ve yet to start it (and are, for some reason, reading reviews for book three?) because despite my dip in opinion, Salvos remains as a whole a blast of a series. I do think it’s worth reading. Just… don’t be expecting a masterpiece, either.

Ok, after reading the third book of this series, I only recommend it for 9- to 14-year-old girls. Anyone else will lose barin cells after reading this book.

10% of the time, the character (Salvos) is wise, and 90% of the time, dum. She is over 80 in intelligence that means she has to be more intelligent than a normal person by 80 points, but NO.

Salvos is so dum, entitled, and annoying. Not happy, go lucky.

She jumps levels in fights and punches above her level for no reason, only because the author wrote it.
The story is okay, and one can enjoy it by power reading or forwarding to an audiobook, but the characters are bad. For example, a vampire whose whole ethos is based on blod and smell doesn't know Salvos is a demon.
The hero is a sidekick to a dum demon.
Even the characters that should be intelligent and wise become dum after meeting her.

Maybe it gets better. Maybe not for now. I had enough. If a brave individual pushes through till the end, please message me privately and let me know what happens in a short message. Thanks.

What van i say??... Its Salvos!

Salvos is awesome and yet so innocent. This is just another chapter in her growth and quest for power. her abilities grow and she learns more about being human (or any other race) then ever before. She might be a demon but has her own but she is learning. The book is awesome and big. Get you money worth here. I'm looking forwaed.to the next book.

No stopping now

Im usually underwhelmed by book 3 of many series I’ve read, but holy, I guess I really can’t stop now. There’s as many open threads as there are closing ones. I’m a total convert to this series now.

The heartfelt moments and hard conversations the main characters have with each other really grounded me emotionally into the story.

Another good one

I love how Salvos is becoming more considered to her companions. This book is a good turning point for all the focused characters. I wonder if Daniel is Asian or not. His reserved attitude and black hair seem to point in that direction. Edithe, is a beast on her own, but a kick in the butt wakes anyone up.

Great sequel, keeps the fun atmosphere while all characters grow

Salvos is funny and reckless as always but all characters grow on personality and strength. Daniel is also the most relatable hero ever.

Great

Undoubtedly another really great chapter, and I very much enjoyed the added complexities that were brought up in regards to magic and skills within this book. If you enjoyed the previous two books, this is undoubtedly another great addition to the series.

In this book salvos goes to the plague lands and it is a good book. It has good progression and this is the start of the rest of the series. Where salvos just pops from place to place clearing out monsters. .

This has become simplistic.

There is no more character growth. The levels just happen. The overall story is basic. The setting is poor. It is still somewhat fun to read, but this needs to grow or it will die.

fun

This book was long and full of fun little things that made me giggle quite often. I really enjoyed reading it and following the adventures of the group of companions! Start at book one and read straight through, it is a lot of fun.

Salvos is a real hoot. Listening to the story of a pair of adventurers desperately trying to stop a sociopath(salvos)from making sociopathic decisions gave me a few chuckles. The MC is an example of why child's laughter is terrifying in dark places.

Keeps getting better

I love salvos as a character and I love the casual normalcy of gay people in the book. A delight to read

Keeps entertaining

The problem with long series tends to be the author filling in pages just to pad it out, but with this series something new keeps happening with every chapter

Salvos embraces her pride here. More gaps are crossed because of her straight forward approach. Very simple adventure story arc.

The story continues to have a lot of action and humor but the character growth for the MC seems to have slowed a bit. She is supposed to have pretty high wisdom but she is very impulsive and there are times when that just doesn't line up well. It was nice getting to know Daniel and Edith more in this story and getting some of the side stories. I would like to see a bit more growth in Salvos but overall I am still enjoying the series.

This litrpg series is quickly becoming one of my favorites and helps to scratch the itch left behind by works like Azarinth Healer. There is something quite satisfying in viewing the world through Salvos unique lens and the synergy she has with her companions and those she meets along her journey.

The litrpg elements are handled well with believable progression that never feels stale or repetitive. Possibly my favorite book in this series thus far, loving the direction this is taking and I’m interested to see what new interactions and areas get explored next.
