Kim Weston-Williams is now a widow. Her husband James was struck by a car while jogging one and a half years ago. Kim believes it was more that an accidental hit and run. She hires Lincoln Holmes to investigate. He encourages her to take a vacation while he digs into everything. They have not been anywhere since James’ death. Kim decides to take the kids on their summer trip this year to Ocean City Maryland. Kim hopes they can bond together and try to enjoy themselves. Olivia is now 15 and Jack is 9.

Chris Lang got divorced from Heather five years ago. After finding out Heather had poisoned the children, Chris pressed charges and she was sent to a mental health facility. Chris is getting ready to take the kids on a trip. Ruby is now 15 and full of teenage angst. Hunter is now 10. He is taking them to a beach in Maryland for the summer. He wants them far from Detroit to save them from some stuff going on in their hometown.

Both families arrive at the same beach house at the same time. Kim and Chris both have confirmations for the rental property. The rental agent is on his way to Hawaii and can’t be reached. It’s a four bedroom house so for now they are going to share it. Olivia and Ruby want to room together and so do Hunter and Jack. That leaves one bedroom for Chris and one bedroom for Kim to share with baby Logan.

They are starting to get used to being roommates. Both feel attracted to the other but both realize being friends for the summer is probably best. They are hiding secrets from each other anyway.
Will they eventually confide in each other? Will they be able to help each other clear up the issues in their individual lives? Will they end up together?

I loved the story and the characters. Both Kim and Chris are trying to be good parents and shield their children from the past.
