Rate this book
Only the strong survive on the streets of Brooklyn. And while Dena Jones definitely has what it takes not only to survive but to succeed, she wants out. And she's determined to make it out of Crooklyn. She’s determined to make it out of Crooklyn by any means necessary and doesn’t have a problem manipulating men to get what she wants. Just ask her boyfriend Lance, or his girlfriend Michelle.
True has finally made it. His debut album has the streets going crazy and is threatening to spill over into the mainstream. After the murder of his group, his jump off and almost his dreams, True's life is finally starting to look up, until karma catches up with him. Somebody wants him dead and he doesn’t know why, or does he?
Jah and Yoshi’s was supposed to be a romance straight out of a story but there are no such things as fairy tails in the ghetto. Her position as a stylist keeps her in the mix and in the company of some industry heavyweights. Jah tries to be understanding but he can’t help but to wonder just how much he can trust his girlfriend. He had promised to love her regardless of her past but in addition to wondering whether his girlfriend is creeping with her clients Jah has got a bigger problem. Someone is trying to kill True and its his job to make sure that doesn’t happen.

In 2002 K'wan hit the scene with his debut novel Gangsta, under Triple Crown Publications. It was the first novel released by the budding house and would eventually become the building block for what is now a multimillion dollar company. What started as a therapeutic release went on to become a part of urban-lit history and an Essence bestseller, as well as drawing rave reviews overseas.
After penning his second novel, Road Dawgz (2003), K'wan drew the attention of St. Martins press. The literary powerhouse quickly signed K'wan to a multi-book deal, the first of which being Street Dreams (2004). In 2008 he received the Black Author of the year award from Black Press Radio for the novella Blow.
Since his insertion into the publishing world K'wan has been featured in Vibe, Pages, King, Felon, Big News, The Library Journal, Entertainment Weekly, The New York Press, Clutch and most notably Time Magazine, to name a few. He was also interviewed by MTV News for a feature on Hip-Hop fiction, and a guest on Power 105s morning show as well as NPR (national public radio). In addition to being an accomplished author, K'wan is also a motivational speaker, mentor to at risk children and the C.E.O of Black Dawn, Inc.
K'wan currently resides in New Jersey where he is working on his next novel.

Right when you thought the hood couldn’t get any worse. Still Hood comes with more madness. Shootouts in the hood are nothing nice, and there is a lot of pimpin’ going on!

Solid 4.5⭐️

All I know is I'm mad as shit! I am so fucking pissed that True and most especially Jah are dead. Yoshi is gonna lose her shit! She asked him not to go. I don't even have a review. My fucking feelings are just hurt right now. True was a good dude who was making a name for himself. Even when we find out why Shah (however you spell it) wanted him dead, you're still rooting for True. It's just fucked up. And Jah love Yoshi so much but just couldn't leave well enough alone. He was guarding True only because he wanted to find the niggas who shot Yoshi. Instead of letting Don B handle True's security, Jah involved himself and now he's dead. I'm just hurt. I loved him the most.

He did gut that nigga Larry Love, so maybe his karma was earned, but I'm still mad.

I don't even have nothing to say about Deena's stupid young ass. Why the fuck would she think a pimp was gonna wife her? Oh, because she's a dumb ass teenager, like all stupid ass teenagers who think they know more than what the fuck they know. Now look at your ass.

Just like the preceding novel (Hood Rat), this book introduces a whole new cast of characters. You need to have great attention to detail because it is a lot of players in this game and you gotta keep up. The new group of hood rats, spent their time in the book chasing behind love and the wrong men, that proves to be detrimental to many of them. The power players in this book were composed of many crews, the Dog Pound, Stacks Green and his folks, Jah and Tech’s crew, and Sha Boogie and his folks. These crews bring all the death and drama in the book. There were many different storylines within the main plot. The main plot affects a lot and leads to a real heartbreaker for the real. This one hit hard for me. A great read.

what a damn story . applause Kwan . there was never a dull moment. this was action packed. the hood always hads something going on and this story was authentic as hell. I could envision everything because I recall seeing similar situations in the hood. this brought back so many memories that this was scary. because I was able to get other peoples point of view this was enlightening. With so many tv networks putting trash on tv they should invest in K'wan books to turn into tv series seriously 😒

K'wan is obviously a really great writer and it definitely shows in this book. I tried to put it down and just couldn't. If your into a lot of urban books that are drama-filled, and move at a fast pace then you'll really enjoy this. It has characters that you will learn to fall in love with, and plenty of scandal.

When i was reading the book it started off kinda slow because of all the characters that were introduced. And its crazy how they are all connected in some type of way. People will be betrayed and feelings will get hurt. And it has an ending that is worth reading the whole book twice just so you can actually fathom what just happened.I cant wait to pick up another K'wan book. And you should pick up this book for yourself.

Kwan does not disappoint in the sequel to Hood RAT this book contains everything from picking up from where the first on left off to ending the book with the reader wondering what's the aftermath going to be for all those involved. This book is a definite reread.

Nahhhh I’m cryingggg 😭😭 I was rooting for Jah, True, & even Spooky fr. True had so much potential man, Jah did too. I truly believe Jah would’ve let the streets go for Yoshi if he had more time. Spooky wasn’t gonna change but dang man I didn’t see him going out like that. I don’t even think Jah knew about Spooky which was probably a good thing because ain’t no way Jah would’ve handled that well

I seen Dena’s story coming from a mile away 🫣 Black Ice was manipulative asf, which he’s a pimp & they are known for being smooth talkers, but idk how Dena didn’t see through that 🤦🏾‍♀️ Like all the damn signs was there! & she had at least 2 people tell her he was a pimp! Now look at ya!

This book started off a little slow for me but soon after Picked up of course! I hate the way it ended but Karma skips no beat ! I really loved Dena and her attitude until she started smelling herself baby girl grew up too Fast ! I actually like Jah and Yoshi’s relationship. This book showed me how scandalous and trifling Women can be Hell even the men too! Overall this was a good Read , now I’m ready to start the Next book!

Dumb girls think they know everything find out in a harsh way. I know situations like this happen and it’s sad but can we read about a smart girl being smart enough to say no to drugs. Obviously Dena wasn’t as smart as the book led her to be. She couldn’t see Black Ice’s manipulative ways and for her to have an older brother she should be smarter than she was.

This is really bad. Storytelling takes a back seat to K'wan writing several cheesy sex scenes.
