Okay, this was really pretty enjoyable! I had a few thoughts of ehhh...I don't think so, but not many...lol...

Characters:
I really enjoyed reading about Tane! His backstory and inner struggle were all very unique and good.
I liked Lia, but Tane was definitely my favorite!
Beck was such a great friend, and I loved him and the realness of how he processed what was going on.
Eden was a fun sister character! I enjoyed her, but someone needs to set some guidelines, okay, she might have put Tane in danger...get a grip on the report side of you, girl.

Themes:
Letting of the past and fear and letting God hold them. We can't carry it on our own, but God can and will take the burden from us if we give it to him.

Language:
N/A

Romance:
A few kisses, nothing super detailed.

Overall:
This story was really pretty fun! I was confused for about 100 pages on what Lia did for a living...like no clue...lol...but that was probably intentional, but it just frustrated me because I wanted to know everyone was so clinging and protective.
Things that didn't pan out or I need answers about:
1) With his scar, I don't think Tane is a prime undercover cop pick because it's such a distinguishing feature. Plus, his partner was also said to have a unique appearance due to being half African Amercian/Asia...so, those just seem like things that would make them stand out more instead of helping them blend in. *shrugs* Maybe I'm wrong. But it does make it easier for people who didn't like them to find them because how many people look like they do? You know?
2) We never found out what happened to J, and I need answers!
3) The cover is deceiving...lol...there's no cabin and no northern lights. It's pretty much all Vancouver and city streets.
4) The ending was more open-ended than I would have liked...lol... and felt a bit rushed.
5) Tane's conversion/handing things over to God scene felt a little rushed/super easy for a guy who'd been holding onto that trauma for years. But that's probably just me...
6) Again, I really need to know what happened to J!

I did enjoy the read, though, despite the few complaints. I'll probably think of something else later, but whatever...lol...

Engaging contemporary novel! I'm not exactly sure how I would classify this novel. There is a bit of suspense, but it's more about character growth and navigating loss and change. Loved the Notting Hill references. I look forward to the next in the series.

Such a wonderful romantic suspense novel! It's difficult to write a review for this one without giving spoilers, but I'll give it a shot as I really loved this book! This book follows Lia and Tane, whose lives intersect quite by accident and whose association can bring danger to them both. There was suspense not only in the story line itself, but also in who each character actually was and how their relationship would unfold. In addition to the suspense and the romance, there was a great deal of character development in this book. Themes of healing from trauma and dying to self were prevalent in the story line and the faith thread was solid as God was involved in those themes. I tend to prefer more suspense than romance in my romantic suspense. Though this one was probably a bit more romance that I typically prefer, I enjoyed how the romance unfolded in this one as it was not at all superficial as is often the case in romantic suspense novels. Though the ending of the story was satisfactory and had some closure, I'll say I'm really glad this is the first in a series as I really want to know what happens next! All in all, this was a spectacular romantic suspense novel and one I'd heartily recommend. Special thanks to the author for an advance e-copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

A beautiful book with a liberating thread of faith.

Part thriller, part romance, and part Christian women’s fiction, The Color of Sky and Stone is a beautiful story that’s clearly hard for me to categorize. (Although I’ve learned a couple of new terms: this can be called upmarket fiction or book club fiction, since it’s designed to stimulate thought and discussion.)

Thriller: Tane is a secret operative in a Canadian organization tasked with taking down drug lords and crime rings. The brief scenes from the enemy’s point of view had me very nervous reading this book. I’m left with an unanswered question, but as an increasingly-timid reader I don’t think I’ll be brave enough to read the sequel in search of an answer. If this is the last high-suspense novel I read, though, I’m glad to have ended with one so appealing. [Note that only portions are intense; most scenes engage the heart and spirit. Also, what I feared didn’t transpire… yet.]

Romance: Lia and Tane are both isolated by their roles in life. Their relationship begins as two strangers exchanging letters. In the honesty and vulnerability of what they write (they’re not expecting to meet) watching them fall in love is sweet.

Christian women’s fiction: Themes of forgiveness (of self and others), honesty, secrets, identity, faith, childhood trauma, risk-taking, and emotional healing make this a book where readers walk with the characters and perhaps find something that makes a difference in their own lives. Discussion questions at the end offer additional opportunities for personal reflection and/or group discussion.

Lia and Tane’s experiences leave them both questioning their chosen roles. What makes the story beautiful is the honesty they risk sharing and the way it frees Tane from hurts he’s carried for years. None of this is contrived or pushy; it’s an organic outcome of their shared experience.

The Color of Sky and Stone is book 1 in the “In the Shadows” series. Sara Davison is an award-winning Canadian author of romantic suspense. Visit her website to learn more about her and her books: saradavison.org.

The book started with a bang...literally as Tane & his partner fight with Drug Dealers. Because of his partner, he "meets" Lia through letter writing. I really loved the inclusion of the letters written back and forth between Tane and Lia. Some of the most beautiful words written in the story were from these letters. Also, you could feel the two of them getting closer as they shared so much about themselves with each other. This provided so much character development. The more they shared, the more honest and open they became with each other and with themselves.

The suspense has ebbs and flows through the novel. It can't help being that way because the very beginning is terrifying and full of suspense. There's always that tone of dread wondering whether or not Tane and Lia will be found out by their enemies. Let's just say that there are surprising events that happen and not everything gets resolved in this book. Since this is the first book in a new series called, In the Shadows, I hope we find out more in book two.

This book is written for those who love a Christian Mystery-Suspense book. There is so much to love in this novel and I'm hooked on these characters now. The Color of Sky and Stone was a happy surprise along, with finding the new-to-me author Sara Davison. I can't wait to read more of her novels.

The Color of Sky and Stone was my first experience with a Sara Davison book, and now I need MORE! Wow - she took me on a rollercoaster of heart-stopping action plus oh-so-many beautiful and poignant experiences with Tane and Lia.

I always love stories that feature letter writing, and the way these two characters got to know each other through writing was a testament to the author's skill at conveying only what needed to be shared at the right moment. Both characters had secrets galore, and giving away too much too soon could be detrimental to their hearts and lives. Their pasts were like an onion that was slowly peeled back to reveal their hard-fought battles and need for forgiveness. Once they let their walls down, they both realized they couldn't live without each other.

As one reviewer mentioned, the cover doesn't reveal anything about the story within. There was never a cabin and the Northern Lights were only mentioned (never seen).

I have no idea whose story might be featured next in this series, but regardless of who it is, I cannot wait to get my hands on it! If it is as deeply moving as this first one was, I will have to carve out uninterrupted time to read it from cover to cover in one sitting.

This was a delightful surprise. I was expecting a suspenseful mystery of sorts but feel it’s a classic contemporary romance story. And a wonderful one at that because it was unexpected and with two people who you wouldn’t expect to be attracted to each other not to mention the way they fall in love.

Tane is an undercover agent who deals with the worst of the worst. His life is a hidden life, living in the shadows. It comes with the job. When Tane loses his partner, Johnny, he’s alone.

Lia Svenson is the opposite. She’s in the limelight constantly. She’s an Academy award winning actress and everyone know who she is. But, it too, is a lonely life. She can’t do anything normal, like go shopping without a security detail and some sort of disguise.

Tane, in his lonely state, chooses to write a letter to a stranger that had written Johnny a short note the night before he died. This is the beginning of two lonely hearts finding their soul mate. It’s quite beautiful to read.

I appreciated how Davison had both characters struggle within themselves regarding pursuing the other. It’s a normal part of any new relationship. But this has added complications of them not knowing the other.

There are some wonderful support characters in this story. Beck, Tane’s handler, is tremendously protective and the way Davison presents their friendship and professional association is special. Beck also understands Tane in a way that at times is quite surprising. Lia’s sister, Eden, is equally protective. She’s a journalist who is excellent at uncovering almost anything, including, hidden agents. The sisters similarly have a lovely relationship built on the hardship of difficult parents and a kidnapping incident when in their early teens.

Davison weaves a gentle faith message through both Tane and Lia’s story. It’s believable and important to the story.

There is some action, some suspense, and the most intrigue is around how or if this duo will be able to exist as a couple or would their lives be too diametrically opposite that it would be impossible or put one or both in danger.

I’m so glad I read this story. The deep desire both Tane and Lia express for the other is a rare thing and lovely to have the good fortune to read such a love story.

I look forward to reading the second in the series.

I went into reading this cold; I was not familiar with the author and had not paid much attention to the synopsis. So glad I went ahead and read it anyway. The story pulled me in from page one and the characters gained my interest to know more about them. Enough suspense to keep the pages turning and the romance is not overdone. I was not ready for the story to end.

My favorite quote from the book... everything we have done or that has been done to us, everything we think and believe, every scar we bear from the past, insecurity we carry about the present, or fear we wrestle with over the future, is part of who we are. None of it should be dismissed, resented, or hidden, especially from those who choose to share this life journey with us.

Words are more powerful than we realize. They have the ability to tear us down or to build us up. They can wound us or heal us. They can bridge time, distance, and social status. They often reveal the status of our hearts. And in The Color of Sky and Stone, Sara Davison uses words to tell a story that encompasses how much words can affect us.

As Tane and Lia meet through letters, they (mostly) tear off their masks and share parts of themselves with each other that they hide from everyone else in their lives. But both of them are, in a way, leading double lives that, once exposed, may destroy the connection between them.

With a dose of danger in both our main characters’ lives, the breather the letters afford the reader are timed just right in this story. And I appreciated that Davison laid out who God is, how much He loves us no matter our past, and how He never leaves us so clearly throughout the book.

If you love suspense with a good helping of romance and faith, this book is for you.

Hesitations for Good

I am not going to lie….when I see a book by SaraDavison, I hesitate on starting it. Not because she is a bad writer, it’s because once I start her books I can’t put them down! They have a way of pulling me into the next chapter, then the next and before you know it, I am realizing it’s two hours past my normal bedtime! She has a way with describing characters, scenery, and story in such depth that I feel wrapped into it much like my favorite blanket. This book had surprises around every corner and it left me guessing what’s next and putting in twists just where they weren’t expected. Looking forward to seeing where this story will continue.

I enjoyed this story tremendously! There is so much suspense in the story, as Tane and Lia are thrown into an unusual situation. The author does a wonderful job writing a story filled with beautiful themes and interesting characters. There is a lot going on in this story, and it tackles some hard subjects, like trauma, but the author handles them with grace. I look forward to reading the next book in this series!

Romans 8:35;37 (ESV) Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

A relatively intriguing read, The Color of Sky and Stone, written by Sara Davison, is a novel that addresses grief, hopelessness, and despair, as well as renewal through love, emotional healing, and the grace of Christ Jesus.

Set in Vancouver, Cananda, The Color of Sky and Stone, follows two main characters, Tane Temauri and Lia Swanson. Tane is an undercover agent for a highly secretive drugs, arms, and gangs policing unit. Living a life of immense secrecy and perpetual danger provides a blanket of shield around his heart and gives him a false sense of security, as he is terribly emotionally wounded from a traumatic childhood. Dealing with issues of guilt, grief, and hopelessness, the sudden appearance of a letter from a mysterious woman forces him to confront the grappling issues of his past, while also stimulating healing, and igniting the renewal of his faith in Jesus.

Lia Swanson lives an incredibly engaging lifestyle, yet still battles a sense of loneliness. Although she has a close relationship with her sister, she yearns for an emotional connection with a companion. Her compassionate heart compels her to seek this companion in an unconventional manner. The risk in her seeking will either prove to be fruitful, or it will result in disappointment. Her faith in God will anchor her in the unknown moments.

During the first few chapters of the novel, I was immensely interested in the plot. There was a thrilling aspect of the story that proved to be intriguing. I also enjoyed the author’s descriptive writing of the inner-city area of Vancouver. The author accentuated the destitution of the city, regarding the criminal activities that impacted the residents. This included drug dealers, addicts, homelessness, and gang activities. Prior to reading this story, I was unaware of the problems that occurred in Vancouver and appreciated the transparency of the issues. However, I became quite disappointed in the progression of the plot almost halfway through the story. There were some unrealistic scenarios that occurred in the plot, that made the story unbelievable. In addition, Tane’s constant self-deprecating thoughts and actions became aggravating. I understood how his negative ways were established by his childhood trauma and grief, however the constant cycling of his self-sabotaging ways and thoughts became quite frustrating, especially when he was being encouraged and reminded by several characters in the story, that he was loved and valued. Tane’s character really highlights how one can be so immersed in their anger and pain, that it thwarts their ability to see the blessings in their lives.

The conclusion of the story was a bit disappointing as well. Tane grew in his faith in God, however it was quite fickle at times, because he constantly questioned his worth and future. There were also times when Lia became a little too desperate for companionship. However, I admired her loyalty and faith. The Christian content in the story was satisfactory. I loved the moments of prayer, thanksgiving, and reliance upon God that was included in the story. Although I was a bit disappointed in the plot, I found the author’s writing style to be quite pleasant. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a story with a touch of thrill, and a clean romantic storyline.

“We are not meant to be on our own. We are created to connect—truly connect—with God and with at least one other person.”

This book is so much. It’s everything. I have struggle mightily writing this review because I won’t be able to capture the heart of this book. I could go into tropes and descriptors, but that just won’t cut it this time. This book takes the brokenness and loneliness and puts it on a page. Desperate hearts who live as shadows and a single light illuminating their darkness. Protection and reasons in lives and pasts and how we are shaped. Connections made without physical contact but so much more than any surface online dating ideas.

This book had God at the center. The Light. I aspire to be one who someone sees a light in and around. That would be the dream. These characters woven themselves into my being. I’m sure I’ll carry lessons and feeling from this book forever. Powerful reminders of comfort and grace. This is one of the top books I’ve read. Christian romantic suspense. It all leads back to Him. Whether at the top of the world, or hidden in the gutters. The best and worst of humanity.

“Even if they were gang members, they were someone’s sons or daughters, brothers or sisters. No doubt they had people who cared about them as much as Lia cared about her sister. And whatever they were involved in now, they’d been innocent children once, playing tag or baseball with their friends and blissfully unaware of the evil all around them.”

I love this perspective. A reality many of us (myself included) choose to ignore over their current actions. Whether it’s drugs or alcohol or something else, we all know someone (whether personally or through the news) that we’ve vilified in some way.

If you’ve read this far, find Truth. He’s right there with you and always has been. Be set free.

“No matter how many times you hear it, no matter how many people insist it is true, no matter how hard they work to silence anyone who argues with them, a lie never magically becomes the truth. A lie is always a lie, even if you start to believe it. And it will never set you free, because only the truth can do that.”

I received an ARC of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Sara Davison has been one of my favorite authors for awhile thanks to her amazing storytelling and characters that tug at your heartstrings. The Color of Sky and Stone is the first novel in her new In the Shadows series, and she knocked it out of the park with this one. It’s clear that she poured her heart and soul into this one.

There can be such power in words, and this doesn’t ring truer than in the story of Tane and Lia, two lonely souls who find solace in one another through missives alone. At first, I felt like this story was going to be like all of the other romantic suspense novels I’ve read recently, but then there was a shift and I lost myself to the narrative. On the surface these two characters don’t seem like they would go together, yet they are more perfect for one another than meets the eye. Both have to hide behind a facade and not show who they truly are, both playing the parts that were given to them, and it takes these roles to meet someone who sees past the act and straight to the heart.

There is some suspense and moments that are electrifying beyond words. The connection between Tane and Lia is so powerful and palpable that you can feel it reverberating off the pages. Beautiful imagery helps paint a vivid picture as we see two souls traverse their lonely existence apart yet together, and the touch of grace and forgiveness is whispered and woven throughout.

Though there is a satisfying ending there are a few loose ends that need to be addressed, and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series to find out what happens. The Color of Sky and Stone is a very powerful story of two lonely hearts that find one another in the most unlikely way and discover what can happen when you truly let go and trust.

Lia stays out of the public eye as much as possible due to her career. When she has a short but meaningful encounter with a man in a restaurant, she feels compelled to reach out to him through a note slipped into his pocket.

Tane is an agent working deep undercover. When his partner his killed in action, he struggles. He once had faith in God, but life has intervened, and he finds it difficult now to believe God cares. He finds a handwritten note to his partner, and the words move him so much, he has to respond. But doing so puts both him – and the mysterious woman on the other end of the correspondence – at risk.

This book, y’all! Sara Davison gives us a banger of a suspense novel. It takes a minute before we learn why Lia wants to avoid the public eye, but with Tane, the action kicks off right away and it’s clear why he’s trying to keep a low profile.

I love how Lia and Tane get to know each other through letters. My husband and I met online, and we did a whole lot of communicating by email before we ever talked or met for the first time. It felt like we got to know each other a lot better than we would have had we been making awkward conversation face to face. This proves to be true here, as Tane and Lia open up to each other and share things you don’t normally talk about early in a relationship.

Faith is an integral part of the story. Lia’s faith is strong, and she doesn’t hesitate to share it with Tane through their letters. Tane has lived through some tough times, and he’s at a place where he isn’t sure God hears him, or cares, or does anything if He does. But as he finds himself drawing closer to Lia, before they even meet, he finds himself turning back to God as well.

Thanks to JustRead Publicity Tours and the author for a review copy. All opinions here are mine, and I don’t say nice things about books I don’t actually like.

All I know about working deep undercover as a black ops agent is what I have read in books, which may or may not be what their life is truly like. I find it hard to imagine going so deep into the underworld that it becomes too dangerous to maintain normal relationships such as family and friends. I am as equally uninformed about the behind the scenes life of a megastar at the top of her career. We often think of them as having everything they need, want, and then more. Can you fathom the depths of loneliness that would cause someone to slip a note to another person who appears equally as lonely to offer a momentary light to brighten their world? A simple offer to correspond by letter on occasion. Receiving and sending letters seems so simple for most of us, but something as straightforward as going to the post office can be an extreme risk for a black ops agent. The note was not even given to Tane, but to his partner. So why was he risking everything by writing this mysterious person with whom he had no connection other than a letter every few weeks? And why did she continue writing to someone she suspected might not be the person she met so briefly? The letters alone were an enjoyable part of the story. They conjured up such beautiful colors as they wrote of earlier times in their lives. The action, danger, and suspense made the book quite appealing. I was drawn in from the start and only put the book down when I had to take care of other normal tasks. The book whetted my appetite for more stories about the characters as the end left me with many unanswered questions. I felt like I was just getting started. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

The Color of Sky and Stone takes readers on a heartwarming journey through faith, fear, and the resilience of the human spirit. The romance and thrill intertwined in the storyline will keep you turning the pages. At the same time, the deeper exploration of faith and spirituality presents profound insights and soulful inspiration. Sara Davison weaves the characters' individual journeys in such a masterful way that you can't help but relate to them. As their lives collide in God's divine plan, readers get a chance to learn about surrendering to the will of the Almighty God and rising above the fear.

Both Tane and Lia represent two very real aspects of humanity - faith in God's providence and defiance towards the Divine will. Through their narratives, Sara Davison beautifully encapsulates the struggles of faith, pain of loss, and the ultimate path towards redemption.

What sets this book apart is how it stirs your emotions while getting you involved in the suspense and thrill. From the fear-driven isolation to the warmth of faith-filled companionship, every situation hits home with its honesty. The emphasis on community and the power of faith make it an enriching and moving read.

In conclusion, if you're seeking a novel that has suspense, romance, and deep life lessons, The Color of Sky and Stone should be on your reading list. Kudos to Sara Davison for this brilliantly penned book. A spy thriller meets romantic drama, spiced with faith-based living - a rare and exciting combination! Be ready to laugh, cry, ponder and, most importantly, lose yourself in the divine orchestration of life and faith.

Most of the time suspense is not my first choice of reading, however, when Sara Davison is the author - I try not to miss one. Even though she writes suspense novels, her books are written in such a way that they do not cause undue stress for the reader (at least not for me).
One of the fun things I like when reading a familiar author is when a character from a different book or series pops into the storyline. Sometimes, as is the case in The Color of Sky and Stone, you hear the same story from a different character’s perspective.
The main characters of The Color of Sky and Stone are a movie star and an undercover cop - both of them have had threats made against them, both do their best to stay out of the limelight. Yet that is difficult when you are a movie star. Lia has a strong Christian faith, which she tries to live out in a world that is far from Christ. Tane’s faith is faltering, mostly because of his family history and the things he sees when undercover.
The Color of Sky and Stone is book one in Davison’s new series In the Shadows. I look forward to reading future books. I can’t wait to see where the relationship between Lia and Tane ends up as well as what happens with the other characters in the story.
While the story is written for adults and is intense at times, The Color of Sky and Stone could be placed in a K-12 Christian school library. It would be appropriate for high schoolers.

The Color of Sky and Stone
In the Shadows #1
By Sara Davison

Tane Temauri has lost his partner when an op goes bad, and now he is on his own until the dust settles and he can finish what he needs to get done. But the man responsible for his friend's death is determined to bring Tane in. He has plans for him, and they aren't good.

But a letter from Lia changes everything.

Lia Swanson's chance meeting leads to her writing a quickly scrawled note. A note that goes to the wrong man. But the man most in need of a connection with anyone. Proof that there are no accidents in life and that there is purpose behind everything whether it be good or bad.

Both Lia and Take are in need of something genuine and the very nature of how they "meet" provides a moment of normalcy, a chance to see and be seen beyond the outer mask. But such exposes them both to danger, danger that could cost them their very lives.

This is the first book of the In the Shadows series, which is aptly is aptly named as both Tane and Lia live in the shadows. Both struggle with the confines life has placed on them and it is interesting to see how they deal with it.

This is a read for those who want Romantic Suspense. And it does keep the suspense going throughout. This one won't keep you up into the wee hours of the night read unless you get caught in the just-one-more-chaper trap.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I give my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Totally not what I expected but I loved it anyway! Not quite a suspense but it sort of is. Definitely a romance….but not totally. Not fully epistolary but there are letter writing elements. Bwahaha — kinda undefinable.

What is definable: excellent writing, deep characterization, faith-infused page-turning perfection. Oh – and Canadian author as well as a Canadian setting!

Our introduction to Tane comes in the form of a tense, action-packed scene that had me on the edge of my seat and trying to figure out how Lia was going to be drawn into his sphere. But the book starts off from Lia’s POV in a random pub with vague hints as to her involvement with a ‘team’ that about drove me crazy because we don’t figure out what she actually does for a living until well into the book. Gah, the suspense was deliciously frustrating and I had so many crazy scenarios racing through my mind!

And that’s about all I can tell you without posting spoilers. Other than Lia and Tane connect in an unexpected way and….the story evolves. I was totally engrossed all the way through and have done a deep dive on the internet trying to figure out if there’s a second book because the ending isn’t exactly all tied up in a bow but not quite a cliffhanger either. Just gives me the impression that there must be more to come.

The cover says “In the Shadows : Book One” but ‘The Color of Sky and Stone’ is listed as a standalone on the author’s website. Ack! I need more Tane and Lia!

"Still, the color of that stone, that sapphire blue, is and always will be my favorite - the shade and depth and power of which can never, as you suggested, be truly captured in words but must be felt deeply in the soul, as you felt the northern lights that night."

Favorite colors. They were exchanging pleasantries, but on a much deeper level than their words suggested. Inch by inch, paragraph by paragraph, Lia and Tane were sharing who they were, really were, since both of them were shrouded within a world that only saw who they portrayed themselves to be, underneath well honed stealth and disguise. It was a chance encounter that began their correspondence, and even now continued under a cloak of misunderstanding . . . . borderline pretense. . . . . because Tane's occupation was so dangerous that bringing Lia's light anywhere near his darkness could get them both killed.

Such an unusual sort of story in many ways, but that's what I really liked about it. Captivating? Yes. Suspenseful? Absolutely. Romantic? Quite. Unnerving? Of course. Inspiring? From beginning to end. Assuring? On the Word of God, for nothing can separate us from His love. We are never alone.

"Here is what I have learned in life: we are not meant to be on our own. We are created to connect - truly connect - with God and with at least one other person."

Sara Davision has become one of my favorite authors of Romantic Suspense novels. The Color of Sky and Stone is Book 1 of the In the Shadows series, a brand new series by Sara Davision.

Tane Temauri has spent much of his adult life in hiding due to his job as a Black ops undercover agent. His job is dangerous and he cannot put himself at risk in the open enviroment. A mysterious Letter arrives, and though not meant for Tane, he has a desire to answer the letter. He does wonder if he answers the letter could he put himself at risk for being a target. Will Tane take a chance and answer the letter to a Woman he has never met? Will he be safe or does something bad happen to Tane?

I was totally hooked onto the storyline from the very first chapter. Tane and Lia met through letter writing when Tane responded to a letter Lia sent to Tane's partner. I really LOVE how open they both are about their life in the letters. Lia is a strong Chrisitan and it warmed my heart to see Tane become a believer again after breaking away from his faith due to Childhood Trauma The relationship between Tane and Lia is amazing and I can't wait to see what happens next. I am already looking forward to future books in this series. GREAT BOOK!

The Color of Sky and Stone is a wonderful novel with a lot of inner turmoil going on plus some romance and suspense. The book read so quickly and I was so sorry to see it end. I have read this author before and I know that she’s amazing and that she would keep me enthralled. And it did not disappoint! The book was amazing.

This novel read quickly. The characters were wonderful and I loved watching them grow and evolve. Oh, and there is some suspense and drama going on as well.

Vapor (his code name) is undercover and always in danger, but he gets a sense of normalcy and can truly be himself in the letters that he sends with a stranger. But once he learns her identity can he continue on? Can he risk not only her but himself as well?

You’ll love this one! And I’m particularly happy to see it’s the first book in a series.

The unlikely pairing of a black operative undercover agent and a sizzling hot actress leads to a strange relationship via letters. The conundrum here is that his goal in life is to stay hidden which is imperative to his job situation. Her goal is to be seen by all of the world, which is necessary to be successful in Hollywood. There is danger to be had in both of their lives, but I mentally questioned how that could ever work. Unfortunately for me the roles of shadow warrior and princess on full display just didn’t work for me. I struggled terribly to finish it but I did. The conclusion of the novel was its saving grace.
This is my first Sara Davison novel, and she writes romantic suspense and has at least one speculative title.
Trigger Warnings: Murder, shootings, drug cartels, and stabbings.

Isn’t it amazing how a person can be so open and honest through the written word and yet hesitant when we see one another face to face.
Tane and Lia find this out as they correspond with one another after one impulsive act on Lia’s part entwines their lives in ways they never expected.
The emotion in this book is raw and real, a testament to excellent and inspired writing.
Both characters are flawed and wounded but their connection is something powerful. Tane’s job is dangerous, Lia’s job puts her in the public eye, so how can Tane continue connecting with her when it could put them both in danger?
Can God’s love overcome childhood trauma? Where do you find the faith it takes to believe in a loving God despite circumstances? This book takes the reader on a journey of discovery with Tane and Lia you won’t soon forget.
I was given a courtesy copy by the author through Interviews and Reviews and this is my honest opinion. I highly recommend this book.

The Color of Sky and Stone is a fantastic example of how romantic suspense should be written. Tane and Lia first meet through letters with neither one of them knowing who the other is. This fact allows them to be more open with each other than with anyone else in their lives, and they connect on a deeper level due to this. They are open about their faith or lack thereof. I enjoyed reading about Tane finding his way back to God.
The suspense is off the charts! Both main characters have a lot going on in their lives, and some of that puts the other in great danger. Author Sara Davison pulled me into the story quickly and never let go until the end. I would definitely read more of the In the Shadows series and other works by this author.
I received a complimentary copy and am sharing my opinion of this very well-written story.

LOVED Tane and Lia's story!! This book kept me turning pages and not wanting it to end!! I'm still not ready for it to be done!! I need Book Two, which is isn't written yet. I also now have a book hangover!! Tane's job is dangerous. Most people think that the group he works with is only rumor. When Tane finds a note not meant for him, he feels seen for the first time in years. Against his better judgement, he responds. Lia feels like she only plays a role in her own life, not that she's really living a life. Until she meets Tane. The risks are huge for both of them, yet they both want to take a risk and step out of fear and into faith. When Tane realizes that God has been waiting for Him, he realizes Lia helped him take those first steps back to God. Now, they're trusting God to lead them.

I wasn't sure about this one at first. It moved pretty slowly, especially at first. And there is a lot of letter writing in the book, something I have never been a fan of in books.

But I did end up enjoying the book. Lia and Tane both were likable characters that were complex and had a lot of depth. And though this is a fictional book, the letters also had a lot of depth to them.

There was eventually enough suspense to make me happy, and I found myself liking the book a lot.

The romance was different, as most of it was by letter before Tane and Lia even met. And slight spoiler: the book didn't end up with a proposal or marriage, but did end positively.

Looking forward to the next book, which I am guessing will be about Tane's handler and friend, Beck.

What an amazing read. This story inspires me to face my fears and choose life even when facing what seems like impossible odds. In a world where masks and facades are the norm, the protagonists in this story challenge me the reader to find those people who I can be raw and vulnerable with. There is something so powerful about being able to step out of the shadows and be fully known and fully loved. I love how this story line parallels a relationship with God where we may not know how everything will play out but we can be honest and real because we are fully known and loved by God. I love how this story starts with a chance intersection of two people and yet that intersection has the potential to change each of their lives for all time. So good.
