Erina loves her cat, but she’s entirely less enthused with his human form, Nekoyama. The two are part and parcel, however, and she’ll need to figure him out if she wants to stop pussyfooting around, or whatever cat pun I come up with next time. Also, a rival appears and it’s definitely not what you’d expect.
Three pages. I was three pages into this volume’s opening chapter when I burst out laughing. That’s a good sign and I have to say, this incredibly goofy book about a cool beauty who has a thing for cats and her were-cat, who isn’t great about showing affection, is growing on me.
One thing I love about the premise is that there’s no huge backstory or family clan or any nonsense about how Nekoyama is a cat-person. He just is and that’s how it is. It’ll likely get more into it at some point, but it truly doesn’t need to.
If you want to sell a good shojo, have two strong leads. These two are a hoot. Nekoyama really goes a little far sometimes, but 100% it’s part of his cat nature and you can see a dozen different felines you may have known in his antics. Whether that’s a good thing or not ultimately determines whether this is for you, I wager.
Erina is mostly there to be shocked and appalled, but she’s pretty sneaky herself. The wasabi joke is delightful and the way she keeps getting in over her head by anticipating cat behaviour but not human-as-cat behaviour is the source of some wild stories.
For example, when she decides that the only thing that can make Nekoyama cuter is to douse him with catnip, she borrows some at school. The chaos caused by this is hilariously subtle, but a reflection on Nekoyama’s sense of smell as well. It’s a clever way to use this for some goofing around.
Much of what Nekoyama does just drives Erina crazy in myriad ways, but she’s no better, in her own way. Nekoyama’s problem is that he’s got the standoffish, sometimes-affectionate nature of all cats, plus their innate sense of owning you (not as bad as it sounds).
This book knows a thing or two about gender politics as well - another good joke is when the guys in class all dump on the idea of a basketball competition, but when the girls think it’s a great idea they change tune so fast. Within this particular sports arc we get the expected reveal that Nekoyama is incredibly agile and skilled, he’s just super lazy. Normally, annoying trait, but, again, he’s a cat. This totally checks out!
When he saves the day, he also shares a scene with Erina that is almost certain to activate a fetish for a reader or two. It’s surprisingly steamy for your average shojo book and threatens to melt poor Erina’s brain. Of course, he’s just being helpful in his way again, but the whole thing is eyebrow-raising (and Erina’s exasperated chapter ending exclamation is perfect).
I don’t want to spoil the rival storyline, but it is particularly hilarious because it is yet another not-as-expected joke that plays with the trope and I am never mad at stories that mess around the generic rival idea (for now, at least - I see you, next volume cover art!). The way this all plays out is adorable and ridiculous.
Yeah, Nekoyama is a bit of an inscrutable, pushy guy sometimes, but he also doesn’t quite get Erina, who seems to really love her pet cat, but has more conflicted feelings when he isn’t like that. It might take after a dozen other books, but the cat angle is really what makes it work for me and the mangaka is great at using it for all it’s worth.
3.5 stars - rounding up, mostly because the chemistry between these two is really good and I love their snippy dynamic. It seems unlikely they’ll hit paws on the relationship any time soon and this is definitely moving up my shojo list. Not perfect, certainly, this is likely an acquired taste read, but very fun.

This series is impossible to put down. I like this volume even more than the first one, because Nekoyama is growing on me and they're both catching feelings. Their dynamic is delicious and I love how much they would tease and bicker with each other. While I was surprised by how spicy it gets at times, I don't have any complaints.

Diese Bände enden immer genau so, dass ich das Bedürfnis habe, weiter zu lesen. Ich bin nicht komplett verliebt, aber manche Szenen sind schon enorm süß. Sowohl die Momente mit Katzen, als auch die Situationen mit romantischem Kontext. Ich wiederhole mich, aber ich werde noch einen weiteren Band dieser Reihe lesen, um zu schauen, ob ich die Serie danach fortführe.

I loved this volume as well! This series is so cute! The main characters are so cute together! I can’t wait to read more! Definitely going to read more of this series today!

Nun, da Kou sich bei Erina einquatiert hat, gewöhnen sich die beiden so langsam aneinander und die neue Haustierbesitzerin hat immer Spaß daran, mit ihrem Kater zu spielen. Dabei gilt es aber auch für sie, viel Neues zu lernen, denn er kann ganz schön frech werden.
Meine Meinung:
Auf diese Fortsetzung war ich sehr gespannt. Mir hat Band eins trotz seiner Knappheit sehr gut gefallen und ich hatte einige Fragen bezüglich Kou, seiner Hintergrundgeschichte und seinen Fähigkeiten. Vieles wurde vorher nur angeschnitten und ich freute mich darauf, mehr zu erfahren. Zwar war auch Band zwei sehr knapp und und recht dünn, machte aber gerade wegen dem frechen Kou, der in seiner Katzengestalt zu anbetungswürdig war, Spaß. Hier konnte ich Erina so gut verstehen und er erinnerte mich oft an den Kater meiner Oma; nicht nur wegen dem gleichen Aussehen, sondern gerade wegen der verspielten Art.
Man begleitete Erina und Kou in ihrem Alltag bei ihr Zuhause in seiner Katzengestalt und in der Schule als Mensch und ich fand die Dynamik zwischen ihnen echt super. Es war toll, wie er sie regelmäßig ärgerte und dabei gleichzeitig das Unschuldslamm spielte, was sie fassungslos machte, weil er immer damit durchkam. Generell passierte nicht besonders viel, aber ich hatte dennoch meine Freude daran, was vor allem an der Chemie zwischen ihnen lag, sodass ich mit ihnen mitfieberte, wann sie sich endlich näher kommen würden. Große Überraschungen erwartet einen nicht, nur zum Ende gab es wieder einen interessanten Cliffhanger, der Lust auf den nächsten Band macht.
Den Zeichenstil fand ich gut und gerade die Katzen waren so niedlich, aber mich störte es ein wenig, dass die Charaktere anscheinend nur einen Gesichtsausdruck parat hielten und permanent die Augen weit auf rissen. Eigentlich nervt mich das bei Mangas nicht so sehr, aber hier war es recht auffällig. Das hat sich nicht besonders verändert, was ich etwas schade fand.
Fazit:
Eine schöne Fortsetzung, die recht knapp ausfiel und in der wenig passierte, die aber gerade wegen Kou viel Spaß machte. Es gab neue Informationen über ihn, seinen Fähigkeiten und seinem Hintergrund, was ich interessant fand. Die Chemie zwischen den beiden stimmte absolut und man fieberte mit ihnen mit. Mich störte nur wieder ein wenig der manchmal einfach gehaltene Zeichenstil, aber ansonsten hat es mich prima unterhalten. Von mir gibt es:

„Küss den Kater“ ist eine weitere Reihe mit einem sehr eigensinnigen „Vierbeiner“ in meinem Regal, die ich einfach toll finde. Katzen sind einfach herrlich!
Während „A Man and His Cat“ eher Slice-of-Life ist, handelt es sich bei dieser Reihe eher um einen aus dem Genre Fantasy. Der Kater, um den es hier geht, ist eigentlich ein Mensch und kann sich in einen Kater verwandeln. Im ersten Teil ist zufällig seine Klassenkameradin über sein Geheimnis gestolpert. Prompt ist er dann auch schon bei ihr eingezogen – als Kater versteht sich.
In Band 2 geht die gemeinsame Geschichte von Kou und Erina weiter. Man erlebt einige tolle Momente mit den beiden, die auch etwas „heißere“ Züge annehmen. Ganz besonders dann, wenn Kou klar macht, dass Erina ihm gehört. Er ist aber gleichzeitig sehr aufmerksam. Und Erina? Erina bringt sein Verhalten komplett aus der Bahn. Das sorgt für viele humorvolle Momente mit Herz.
Für mich hat Kou in diesem Band definitiv die größte Entwicklung erlebt, da er sich hier von einer nicht ganz so kalten und arroganten Seite zeigt. Im Gegenteil. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass er langsam auftaut und sich Erina gegenüber öffnet. Er weiß allerdings auch ihre Schwäche zu nutzen: ihre Liebe für Katzen. Und so nutzt er prompt sein Kateraussehen um zu kriegen, was er will. Kann man da als Katzenliebhaber widerstehen? Wohl eher nicht… 😅
Der Zeichenstil der Mangaka ist klasse. Die Charaktere, Panels und Struktur passen ganz wunderbar. Gerade das Freche von Kou kommt zur Geltung – egal, ob als Mensch oder Kater. Ich finde es einfach klasse.

Der Manga war wieder mega süß. Allerdings finde ich den Preis für diesen dünnen Manga echt übertrieben.
Viel Handlung gibt es hier nicht, aber das stört mich bei der Reihe nicht. Ich finde einfach die Idee mit dem Jungen, der sich in einer Katze verwandelt, wenn er von einem Lebewesen geküsst wird, richtig niedlich und unterhaltsam.
In diesem Band bekommt Kou Konkurrenz durch ein Kätzchen, das Erinas Mutter auf der Straße findet. Auch ein kleiner Katzenminze-Vorfall in Menschenform war sehr amüsant.
Ich mag die witzige und noch in den Anfangszügen liegende Beziehung zwischen Kou und Erina sehr. Am meisten amüsiert mich Erinas Schüchternheit/Verlegenheit, wenn Kou mal wieder sehr direkt ist oder Körpernähe sucht.
Der Zeichenstil ist sehr niedlich, Vor allem die Katzen-Zeichnungen gefallen mir sehr.
Ich werde die Reihe auf jeden Fall weiterlesen, wünsche mir aber, dass die nächsten Bände etwas dicker sind.

And we continue! Volume two picks up right where we left off in volume one. More hijinks between Erina and Nekoyama ensue, including a scene that involves, GASP, drugs?! Nah, I'm kidding, it's just catnip. It is nice to see Nekoyama slowly opening up more to Erina, even if some of his affection comes through in his actions and not his words. Erina is also slowly learning more about Nekoyama, and his cat-related tendencies as well. Looking forward to volume three!

No és ni mig normal com m'ha arribat a agradar aquesta sèrie!!!!! :3 la premissa semblava una xorrada (que en realitat ho és), però la relació avança d'una manera molt natural i la TENSIÓ SEXUAL és espectacular!!! ♥ M'encanta que en els comentaris la gent deia que tant de bo fos smut, amb això ho dic tot ^^' Adolescents horny falling in love amb un petit twist de fantasia shapeshifter, què més es pot demanar???

Se me hace raro que la protagonista no le wachen mucha cosas que tiene el Nekoyama.

Este momento va por la misma línea, por el momento solo sabemos que Nekoyama es el único de su familia que se puede transformar en gato.
Son 6 tomos, voy por el 2 esperemos esto evolucione de mejor forma de como pienso que será.

I hate to say it, but it's still cute. I don't know why I'm enjoying this series so much. Maybe the whole dynamic of the ML turning into a Cat but acting like a Cat while in human form is so entertaining. I can't explain it! He gets jealous and starts to rub on her, I couldn't stop laughing.
