Victim turned vigilante, Harriet is determined to rid the world of those who abușe others.

Dang! There is a lot to unpack here. So many repressed emotions and trauma. You’ll also find healing in the most unexpected of ways. Alfie, Darling has a unique storyline that I absolutely loved! Although I have only read a couple of the McGowan Mafia books and have only met Alfie in passing, I really enjoyed seeing another, deeper side to him. And while Harriet was a new character altogether, she is unlike every other FMC I’ve ever read.

All the 5star reviews made me want to read this book, the synopsis was great and it was my first book by this author.

The plot had amazing potential but was flat, like you know what Harriet and Petros back story was, kind of, but what was Petros made to do? Just stand around and watch? How long were they captive together, how did their relationship develop? Literally nothing on that at all.
Then poor Alfie. Harriet and Petros BOTH SA him. Numerous times. Harriet’s treatment of him is awful and that complete 180 she has. One minute she’s stabby and plotting his death the next she’s the meat in the Petros Alfie sandwich * insert major eyeroll*
Petros and Alfie could’ve been cute IF it wasn’t just out of the blue. One minute Petros hates him and is SA’ing him, the next he’s caring and hugging and falling for him. Where’s the development??
The book had so much potential, but failed at every opportunity in my opinion.

This was my first effie campbell book & it most definitely won't be my last!

This book is the perfect combination of dark romance, spice, and revenge.

I was hooked from beginning until the end and I loved how the relationship developed between the three main characters.

I felt for all of them in their own ways and I enjoyed how together they were able to feel whole.

My only negative is I wished I read the dark desires series first before this one, as Alfie is a side character in that series. BUT I will most definitely be going back and reading it!

You get:
• Dark Romance
• Murder/Gore
• Polyamory
• Held Hostage
• Past Trauma
• Sexual Assault
• Kidnapping

I highly recommend this one! Available on KU, ebook, and paperback. Check out the special edition with light purple pages too.

I started and stopped this book on 2 different occasions. In the beginning, I was annoyed at the lack of emotions the writer wasn't able to convey. She tried to make the main female character a badass, but it just wasn't portrayed very well in the writing. I finally thought it was getting better about midway thru the book, but then it fell flat again. The style of writing just didn't back up the energy and chemistry the author was trying to tell with the story.

Alfie, Darling by Effie Campbell is probably her darkest story yet. While this is or could be considered a dark romance and a revenge romance, I was more interested in the character’s grief and loss as the story. This book results in a why-choose with Alfie, Harriet and Petros as the trio. There is a lot of dark elements in this book so be sure to read the triggers beforehand.
I normally would do a plot summary but I don’t feel like I could do Alfie, Darling or Effie justice. Instead, I’d rather talk about the overarching theme of loss and lack of self-esteem this story revolves around. Alfie was abused mentally, emotionally and physically throughout his childhood and adulthood by his father. Harriet was abused sexually by Alfie’s father and his father’s friends. Petros was abused physically and mentally by the person who kidnapped him as a child who also owned Harriet. Effie does an amazing job of showing how this can affect somebody to the extent of not feeling worthy of love, of the loss of control and self-esteem this can cause. Alfie always felt like he was never worthy of true connection from constantly being considered a disappointment from his father. He pushed away his friends and only ever partook in one-night-stands. He always felt alone even when he was surrounded by friends and loved ones because he never felt worthy enough to allow them in and love him fully. Harriet was such a broken person who forged those cracks with hate and revenge. She couldn’t accept any light in her life because she felt it was dishonoring her own trauma and the trauma caused to others by the same men. Because of this, it pushed Petros away to the point of finding love and happiness with Alfie in a way that Harriet thought of as a betrayal at first. Petros was incredibly dependent on Harriet. His love for her was encompassing and toxic in a way to himself. He didn’t want to hurt Harriet further but he also never showed his true feelings until Alfie came around. Harriet and Petros could have healed together sooner if they would have had a stronger self-esteem and felt worthy of each other.
My favorite thing about this book is it’s truly moving. I don’t really think of many romance novels much less dark romance novels as moving or inspiring but this one was. It reminds me the fact that regardless of your past, of your past decisions, of what’s happened to you, you can still come out stronger and be a good person. While Harriet does it in a gruesome and maniacal kind of way, it doesn’t still end up being for the good of the world. You may need to forge your darkness as a shield to protect you, but eventually the light will break through.
My least favorite thing about this was it felt too short. I wish there was more of the story. I realize this was a spinoff and sort of a novella for Effie but I want more Alfie dang it. I like that the backstory is given for each character but I want more. I want to know why they chose Harriet. Why did Petros get kidnapped as a child. Why was Alfie’s dad so sick in the head to partake in sex trafficking and think so little of his son. I want more!
I rated this book 5 out of 5 stars. Effie Campbell is an amazing writer and puts you in the hearts and minds of her characters. I could literally feel the desperation and pleas from Alfie in the cage. I felt the humiliation and anger at herself from Harriet for being attracted to Alfie. I wished nothing more than Petros to have his happily ever after. I was entirely disgusted by the lasagna scene but go you Harriet on getting your revenge. I just will forever think about tattooed skin in my meat.

Effie hit the ball out of the park again! We finally got a story about Alfie and it was amazing! Depending on who you are you may not want to eat lasagna again but other than that scene it was everything. Probably one of the best enemies to lovers story I’ve read in a while. We were introduced to Harriet and Petros and I loved them both. This was an amazing story about torment, healing and finding love at the end. You guys need to read it! Please read all the trigger warnings beforehand your mental health matters 💕

This book was a rollercoaster and I mean that in the best way! I fell for Alfie in the McGowan books and I craved his story, little did I know it would be so dark and twisted. Hold out till the end I promise the HEA is worth it.

As always effies writing is like breathing, effortless and needed to survive

Oh how I have waited for a book to be centered on Alfie and I was not disappointed!!! Alfie’s playboy ways gets him stalked and trapped by a sinister woman Harriet with a grudge and her henchman Petros. Will his charm and proclivities be able to garner his escape???
I absolutely loved to see the inside of Alfie’s mind and the growth he goes through. It made me adore him even more. In fact, the growth of all the characters was a wild and spicy ride but ultimately so beautiful. I definitely had a few tears!

I am never disappointed with an Effie book. I was so excited to hear that Alfie was getting his story and I couldn’t love it more! We start out with Alfie feeling lonely surrounded by couple all the time and going to a pub to basically drown his sorrows. After he leaves we later learn that Harriet and Petros were following him. Learning Harriet’s story was absolutely heartbreaking, I loved that Petros was there for her no matter what. Is this a dark, twisted romance? Yes absolutely, but there was also such a beautiful connection formed between the three main characters. I absolutely adore Petros and Alfie’s relationship, the way Petros took care of him just warmed my heart. We need more fmcs like Harriet though, she was a spitfire to say the least 😂 probably the most badass fmc I’ve read. I highly highly recommend jumping into their story! Thank you Effie, for the opportunity to ARC read for you 💜

I absolutely loveeee a female revenge story and this one did not disappoint.

After reading Dark Corruption I had to read Alfies story and what happened to him. Now this book is not for everyone. Please read ALL trigger warnings before reading this.

Even though this book wasn’t super long, the plot was great and character development of the three main characters together was amazing. I absolutely loved Alfie, Harriet & Petros story and how they grew individually and together.

I have been literally counting down the days to be able to read this book since Effie mentioned it being in the works.

Once we started reading my book bestie & I put our phones down maybe once or twice.

I wasn’t sure what to except going into this book but either way it turned out to be a delicious read full of revenge, unexpected happiness, and multiple partners. 🥵

After meeting Alfie in the last two McGowan books, I couldn't wait for his story and Effie did not disappoint! Alfie is such a lovable character who is deeply misunderstood. I loved him and his backstory. I absolutely adored the three main characters and was happy that the McGowans made a brief appearance.

We know Alfie as the fun loving owner of Rosenhall who is always down for a good time, but we didn't see the burden his soul carried. He is the adopted son of a rich monster who never felt like he belonged or is loved. He is taken by Harriet for sins committed by his deceased father.

Harriet is a survivor and a badass. She was taken by Alfie's father and was used and åbüsêd for years until she escaped her captors. She now spends her time ridding the world of the men that took her and others who commit similar heinous acts. She is prepared to make Alfie pay for the crimes committed against her.

Petros is Harriet's best friend and her light. He escaped captivity with her and helps her with her project to rid the world of scumbags. After having Alfie for several weeks, Petros begins to believe that Alfie is not a monster like his father and perhaps taking him was a mistake.

The three begin to form a bond. All used and discarded in different ways. Some parts of them looking for lightness and other parts seeking darkness from each other. The three complement each other absolutely perfectly.

This book is dark, it is twisted, it is full of spice, and I promise you that you will never ever look at lasagna the same again! Effie absolutely nailed Alfie's story! This book is amazing and I highly recommend it to dark romance readers! I only hope that Effie gives us Phoenix's story...I'm still wondering about this mystery man.

"Waking up nearly naked and in chains wasn't exactly unusual for me, but . . ." Alfie brings the headonism wherever he goes, including when he gets kidnapped.

I met Alfie in McGowan Mafia #4, "Dark Desires", where he runs a pleasure castle deep in the Scottish Highlands and he was such a fun character. This book focuses on who Alfie is, his backstory and how his past has caught up to him.

This book has a much more serious tone than Dark Desires. It deals with unhealthy parent relationships, SA, human trafficking and more. Harriet has escaped her abusive life and is taking revenge on everyone who participated in her SA, including Alfie.

I love a story about a woman stepping into her power, owning her anger and getting revenge. For a book with three POVs, I wished it was a little longer so I could really get to know the characters better. Alfie is such a free spirit and I loved getting to know his back story.

Cute nicknames!
- My beautiful terror
- Little monster

🔒MF/MM/MMF
🔒 FMC is 40!
🔒Dubcon/Noncon
🔒Death / Torture / Violence / Kidnapping
🔒Incandescent female rage
🔒Lasagna (trust me on this)

This is a great read if you're looking for something that is dark, short and has a really interesting MMF dynamic.

This book is best read over lasagna dinner, ignore the bleeding man in the corner with the severed tendons.

While this book is in the same universe as the McGowan Mafia series, it can be read as a standalone. For full effect I would recommend reading the other books!

Let’s talk about our FMC, she goes from battered victim to unstoppable avenger! After the trauma she endured, she seeks revenge on those who wronged her. And turns into full on psycho serial killer- see lasagna scene 🥴🤮🤢
Our main MMC is quite literally addicted to sex. Male or female. Sometimes at the same time. So imagine being take to the edge repeatedly but never being allowed to finish. Poor Alfie 🤣🤣
Note. Never eat muffin or lasagna .. ever again!

this book tore me up in the worst way, and healed me in the best way. i’ve been in love with alfie ever since he showed up in the mcgowan mafia series. even though it was never explicitly said until this book, alfie always felt like he had something sitting heavy in his heart. the way he moved in and out of the mcgowan’s lives like a ghost was always quietly heartbreaking. i was not at all surprised to find how deep that well of trauma really went. and, as the saying goes: hurt people hurt people. enter harriet and petros. now we have a whole trifecta of wounded souls to heal before the end of this book. 😅 how does effie do it? i have no idea. alfie and petros have now joined mac and ewan on the pedestal of top-tier book boyfriends, i am SO grateful that effie gave us more of this beautiful, broken boy to love, then multiplied that by 3

also… dom alfie can. fucking. GET. IT. 🥵🫠😮‍💨

Well this was absolutely delicious! Maybe the wrong choice of words…. IYKYK! I don’t think I’ll ever eat lasagne without thinking of this book! 🤣

First of all check your triggers because this is dark, maybe even the darkest of Effie’s books.

I loved Alfie when we saw him in Dark Desires and now it’s his turn to shine. He really went through the wringer in this book, my heart broke for him at times.

Harriet was a bad a$$ MFC even if she was unhinged, she had her reasons. She is out for revenge and is convinced that Alfie has the answers.

Petros has been in love with Harriet for as long as he remembers and he is willing to do anything to help her get her revenge. He’s not expecting Alfie to have the effect on him that he does though and their scenes were just *chefs kiss

This was the perfect dark love story and I loved seeing Mac and Ewen make appearances (my fav McGowan bros).

Alfie Alfie Alfie... where to start!
Alfie, Darling deals with so many issues that affect a lot of us, self worth, trauma, loss, love and find yourself but while the issues in this book are not ones many of us have faced they were handled with such care. Effie delicately handled such complex issues and wrote a beautiful story of finding you're ending.
Alfie's journey was amazing and he found love I'm his captors and helped them find closure and peace Harriet is a stubborn woman who denied herself the love she wanted and deserved because she didn't feel she was normal or worth it. She didn't feel like she was allowed to like the things she did, it made her feel unworthy. Petros story was not as explored as I would have like but he is still so strong and so incredible and definitely my favourite!
I love that they found each other and they all found their happily ever after!

Alfie, Alfie, Alfie. What else can I say? Alfie has the darkest, most intense story yet. A playboy of mega proportions, he flits from place to place and lover to lover, never committing or setting down roots.

I will admit to not feeling sympathy for Alfie when it seemed as if his propensity for deliberate m@n-wh0ring caught up with him. But then I saw that not all is as it seems, and my heart went out to him and everyone else who had to live in pain.

Not only is Alfie’s story dark and deliciously smexy, it’s also very emotional. It always catches me by surprise when that happens, even though by now I know that this author is very skilled at achieving that balance between sex, danger, and deep emotion.

This was so good, and it just might be my favorite of the series!!

Alfie, Darling
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Effie Campbell

This story is about Alfie, friend to the McGowan family from Effie’s books in that series. Alfie comes from a wealthy family but a depraved father and Alfie’s trauma from that caused his own depravity which has him encountering Harriet better known as the Viper!

The Viper seeks revenge on depraved abusers and Alfie being one of them. Check your trigger warnings for sure on this book but out of depravity and sexual abuse comes eventual healing and a polyamory relationship including Petros.

Through it Alfie is able to help Harriet seek revenge on those that started her abuse. With all of that, Effie writes an amazing story, the healing and strength Alfie, Harriet and Petros form is beautiful!

i need all the alfie!

I have been salivating for Alfie’s book! Now trust a girl when I say I INHALED it. Also I wasn’t expecting a lot of it. My heart broke into a million pieces with how broken their stories turned out to be. I just wanted to hold all three of them and cry right along because I wasn’t okay. I will say though the spice though….WOW! Oh and talk about a turn of events! I definitely stayed on my toes and hope y’all don’t have a weak stomach because lasagna may be ruined forever for some of you LOL. I just hope we get more of everyone in the future though because I refuse to believe this is the end of the road for this crazy brunch.

~Oh Alfie, how much you suffer!!! My heart goes to Alfie, From the outside he can show himself that he is all happy but deep down he is a broken man… like something is missing!!! So Alfie gets kidnapped by Harriet and Petros all because Harriet has this hate revengeful grudge towards Alfie’s father who is already dead! But what that man dis was just pure messed up! Okay, when reading this book at first I was hating Harriet but then she grew on me after hearing everything she had to endure… I really didnt blame her! After that everything change for all of them… Now the spice was OMG! They broke Alfie during this! I even cried with him!!! Effie never disappoints, you will never get bored by reading Effie’s books! Wow! This was my first Effie Campbell book, and it will not be my last. Alfie is my new book boyfriend. Hot doesn’t even touch the tip of Alfie. Scorching is more like it. Seeing him edged was sexy. Seeing him with Petros was freaking mind blowing! Ka-Boom! And the two of them with Harriet…. I think my heart just stopped. lol. I loved it!
The trauma that all 3 characters went through was tragic but the fact that they were able to fight through and overcome their past was a great thing to see. If you are comfortable with the trigger warnings, I highly recommend this book!

Whew what a story! This is Alfie’s story, he appears in Dark Desired and Dark Corruption (McGowan Mafia Series). This is Effie’s darkest novel definitely look at triggers as always recommended. This story touches on things that are heavy and not as commonly discussed.

Harriet is our unhinged FMC, with a past leaving her the way she is. She’s out for revenge and believes Alfie has the Answers.

Petros has been in love with Harriet since he met her nearly twenty years ago after being assigned to care for her.

Alfie is well unapologetically himself and throughout the events in the book he’s still his spicy sassy self with the hedonistic side.

Alright, brace yourself for a wild ride with this book! The drama was top-notch, and the spice level was through the roof - holy cow! It was a sizzling rollercoaster of a story. But, that lasagna scene? It left my jaw on the floor. I might just swear off lasagna forever. Thanks a bunch, Effie, for that unexpected twist. This is the darkest of the books I've read by Effie so far. It was not what I was expecting from Alfie's book. From the character parts in the McGowan series, I was expecting his book to be spicy and fun. Instead, we got a very different character.

I still really enjoyed this book... but really felt it lacked the back story of Petros. I wanted more. Harriets character - A victim turned vigilante was a bad@ss.

Is revenge a dish best served cold? Or like lasagne hot, garlicky with a side of poison ☠️ Our FMC is out to erase her abusers and she does it in the most delicious way.

Enjoyed the fact Petros and Alfie fell for each other and then ensured Viper (Harriet) was pulled in and they all got the love they deserved. ⛓️💀🖤🩸⚰️

Alfie is a flirt, a dangerous flirt with no cares in the world.

Something unexpected happens to him where he endures torture and pain.

Alfie then begins to realize his faults and wrongs he has made during his life.

His growth as a character was drastically amazing. The person he became, wow. Yes he was still dangerous but the love that he can share.

Harriett is a new level of scary, but oh my goodness my heart hurts for her. Her growth is also amazing.

My heart hurts for Petros as well. He exudes love but never felt it himself until unfortunate events happen.

This was such a quick, fun, spicy read

Ps don’t eat lasagna while reading

There's not a story Effie could write that I would not like. This is roughly the 7th or 8th book of hers I have been able to ARC read and they are all so dang good. We have all been anxiously awaiting Alfie's book as he has appeared in the last 2 McGowan books prior to this and this definitely did not disappoint! There was alot of heart-wrenching moments in this and many of both Alfie and Harriet's memories of their teenage life and adulthood were difficult to read about but those experiences played such a vital role in shaping who they were in this story. Harriet is vengeance incarnate and she definitely lived up to her nickname of The Viper in the way she enacted payback on the men who made her life living h***. Petros.... wow. I wholeheartedly loved him. The way he was there for Harriet through everything and always supported her in enacting that vengeance and his connection to both her and Alfie was so truly special. The smut was perfection as always! So many emotions played through me while reading this and that journey is the best ride a book can take you on.
