⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fall is Murder is the newest novella from Nellie H. Steele based on her Middle Age is Murder Cozy Mystery series. The main character, Ellie has the uncanny ability to communicate with her cat Cleo, and dog Loa after sustaining a head injury soon after moving to her new home. During a stormy rainy night one night, Ellie, Mia (Ellie’s best friend), Cleo, and Lola settle in and relax by eating popcorn and watching a movie. The sudden desire for chocolate to eat with their popcorn prompts Ellie to go downstairs to the kitchen to grab some chocolate. While starting down the stairs, a loud burst of thunder startles Ellie, causing her to trip and fall down the stairs, hitting her head on a step. When Ellie regains consciousness, she finds that she is one hundred years back in time and the people, and her pets, are changed. Although they appear the same, all of them have changed in their roles, names, and relationships. Ellie’s world is turned upside down. To get back to her own time, Ellie must first help solve a ghostly mystery and trust her new friends to figure out what she must do to return home.
This is a fun and delightful story with some fantastic allusions to other works by Nellie H. Steele and even a very popular time-travel movie from the past. The story was well-written and it was very witty how the author worked her gems into the storyline. The characters were hilarious at times, especially the talking animals, and the world-building was fascinating. The book was short but a highly enjoyable and satisfying read. I highly recommend this book to get a feel-good feeling.
