The Club is a book club that consists of 7 women and 1 man who all have a passion for reading novels. Their love for books has created an unbreakable bond between them. But things take a dark turn when Amber, the baby of the group, reveals that her husband, Police Chief, Anthony Dunwoody, is a monster who has done horrible things to her and their daughter, Sophie.
The members of The Club become enraged by Amber's confession, and once the alcohol starts flowing at the meeting, it isn't long before suggestions on how to kill the badge wearing abuser get tossed around. Those suggestions might have easily been dismissed as alcohol-fueled gibberish being spewed by drunken women, but the benefit of the doubt flew out the window when Police Chief, Anthony Dunwoody, is murdered one week later.
Suddenly, the members of The Club are all suspects in a high-profile murder case that makes this once tight-knit group splinter. And once the aggressive Homicide Detectives start to dig deeper for answers, more and more secrets about The Club members are unearthed. It becomes obvious to the police and the members of The Club that someone in their clique is a cold-blooded murderer, The question is...who?
It’s been a long time since I’ve had a book have me laughing and shedding tears. I highly recommend. Amber was a woman who picked the wrong men to have a relationship with. The stories of the book club members were different, but deep. The story unfolded leaving me shocked. The ending was not predictable. My bottom lip dropped.
The Club is a gripping novel with impeccable pacing that keeps readers engaged until the end. The book effortlessly blends mystery, drama, and psychological exploration of its characters, making it a compelling read. The story is centered around the dark side of loyalty, the destructive nature of secrets, and the unpredictable ways in which people react under pressure. I highly recommend this book to fans of psychological thrillers and drama, as it offers a captivating plot, well-developed characters, and an insightful exploration of the human psyche under duress.
What happens in the book club meetings stays in the book club meetings.
I was bored, so I picked up a book from one of my favorite authors—and just like that, Brian W. Smith had me hooked again. His writing style is so unique and his character-driven plots are pure conversation starters. Truth be told, this book secretly has me wanting to find another book club to join.
As a former avid reader, I love how he always keeps me on my toes. He is never predictable. Every story comes with a twist that makes me sit up like, “WTF… I did NOT see that coming.” And then once he reveals it, I’m sitting there admitting, “Okay… that was wild, but it really COULD happen.” My mind just does not work like his, and that’s the fun part.
The Club felt exactly like the in-person book clubs I’ve always imagined. The homage to book-club culture is spot-on—it echoed my own book-club experiences so perfectly, it actually made me miss being part of one.
While I’ve never been in a book club meeting with Mr. Smith himself, I have experienced his warmth at a book signing and as a featured panelist. So learning that this story was inspired by the support he receives from real book clubs explains why he captures the inner workings and hosting duties so well.
He tells a straight-up good story with plenty to discuss—exactly what you want in a “book of the month.” Kudos for giving every book-club member a little déjà vu.
If you haven’t tried Brian W. Smith, you’re missing out on an experience. Honestly, pick up any of his books… but definitely don’t sleep on The Club.
Read this one in one day! As always, this author takes you on a wild ride with all the "feels". How does one leave their abuser? How does one let go of past hurt? Does it ever go away? Who is to blame if the cycle of abuse is not broken? Can one find happiness after abuse and tragedy? How far would you go to protect yourself? Your child? Is murder ever okay? Are we wrong for being okay with murder if the person deserved it? Is it okay to be comfortably justified? This story makes you ask yourself these questions while reading. BWS is a master at surprise endings and I love how he always leaves us to our own devices when the story ends. I'm still wondering about some of the book club members.......just saying
I started reading this book while on Winter break at a friend’s house. She was so drawn to the plot that she wanted to make sure that I wasn’t reading it without her everyday until we finished. We just had to know how the novel would end. I wont give it away, but as usual, Brian you got me!!! You continue to hold the title as my favorite author because you never disappoint!!! I can’t wait until Sista 2 Sista Book club hosts you this year to discuss this page turner. Congratulations on your 40th novel!!
I am never disappointed when reading one of Brian W Smith’s books. The characters is this book were well developed with each one having their own issues going on. The bookclub became a family and they acted like a family with the love and the chaos. If you haven’t read it, read it.
As always a thought provoking book makes you cuss the villan and cheer for the victim Brian W. Smith never disappoints me!!! Adding this to my loved books!
Great Read if you are in a book club you will enjoy this book.....I was talking back to these characters in this book.....and the ending wasn't what I was thinking📚📚📚📚📚
