I'm still not sure that I'm getting any real answers. The tree metaphor is highly confusing for me even with the picture that we got in the volume. We still have no clear answer as to what really happened to Earth or Jaehwan's friends. The art is good, but I'm not really sure I like this struggle to decide who is human and who isn't. As far as defending yourself from an attacker or protecting someone, whether the opponent is human I will defend myself and I will protect an animal or a person just as vigorously. I also treat NPCs in video games fairly well and don't torture them because I feel bad when I do, even though I will go behind their backs and do things I wouldn't do in real life because they won't notice. It's the difference of what actually affects them and causes their models to react. Jaehwan has feedback from the beings around him and is still acting like there is room to call them not human. It's weird.
There's an amount I want to give this five stars because it's better than Solo Leveling and, I think, would make a better anime Solo Leveling's. It's not THAT much better, though, while having the same problem (and same high-quality art!) as Solo Leveling, where the main character loses a lot if not all of his humanity in becoming ridiculously strong facing ridiculous odds in a ridiculous setting.
By this point, it's also a less funny version of One-Punch Man (One-Stab Man?).
Really, the selling point is still that it's anime quality graphics on a web comic release schedule, which tears me up since my understanding is what Webtoon pays for this level of quality isn't remotely a living wage (~$5/hour!). I feel guilty contributing to that, but I don't know if NOT supporting the series helps that much, either... I mean, 5 USD/hour might be a lot more in Korea, I don't honestly know!
Anyway, summary is still Stab Dude* is mad at finding out Earth is at the bottom tier of a huge demonic-something-ish Higher State of Existence and ends up Denying Reality his way through to becoming stupid strong through only stabbing. He ends up in Chaos, which is basically Hell but apparently you can still die (or turn into a Fiend) there, but no one realises that he is the only one who is actually still alive (he claims amnesia as the reason he doesn't remember his death like everyone else does).
I guess it's like a less funny Black Clover, too (though I don't think Black Clover is that funny, but that's at least *posed* as a comedy), since the main character is stupid strong and nullifies magic. Recommended for Black Clover/Solo Leveling fans, anyway.
*I legit still have trouble remembering Korean or Chinese names. Japanese I can usually remember but often get wrong. All ironic since I'm Asian(-American, though).
The thing is, I'm not rooting for mc. His goals feel a bit...reckless and not in the intersecting way. It's like he was told here is a goal. Just go with it. The characters around him are way more interesting, which is jarring because he's the one who's supposed to be completely other. We are supposed to see the world through him, yet you find yourself wanting to look through any other perspectives.
I also found it super confusing when the spirit talk came to being. Is his spirit the thing that's been moving the whole time? What then would be the purpose of saying the whole world was destroyed in the first volume? Doesn't it mean it is all fake? I get the dream demons have to have something, but this late into the book, it's just super out of place. Is he even as powerful as he thinks?
It's still interesting, just not gripping. I wish the mc was just not a poor copy-paste of action manhwa mcs who are super overpowered for nothing. I also wish I saw actual growth. Maybe then he wouldn't feel strange every time he's on paper.
This book earns five stars purely because is introduced, and his relationship with Jaehwan is the best. Undead Gamja does a very good job of adapting and expanding on SS' webnovel, adding in some wonderful fights and neat character designs, though I think Mino's ultimate design is far worse than how SS describe it in the webnovel.
The pacing is still much better. If you want to experience the story SS wrote before they wrote ORV, I would recommend giving the manhwa a shot, and then giving the novel a shot because the novel explains a bit that the manhwa entirely leaves out. Gorgon makes a lot more sense in the webnovel. But all in all, it's an enjoyable adaptation, even with the super long stilt legs. Undead Gamja is very good at drawing attractive guys and neat fights in particular, and if you like that, that's great here.
Is it worth to keep trying with this one? Still not sure...
While volume 2 feels a little bit easier to follow up in certain aspects (mostly, the environment or world), it also still feels pretty juvenile and confusing, when it comes to both, the story and the art, especially muddled in the action scenes (and, of course, there's quite a lot of those).
I can't really say there is much character development in this one, and there is also very little that gets explained (maybe the world tree structure?), and just new concepts and ideas that keep being dropped into the mix, in (again) quite a confusing way.
So while this is kind of fun at times (in a juvenile kind of way, as I mentioned before), it also feels a bit pointless...
In one word, and as with the first volume and review: confusion... that might not be worth the effort.
the dynamic between jaehwan and mino is so prefect, I love this new camaraderie 🙏🙏❤️
the worldbuilding on this is so interesting. the more I read, the more I want to know. we’re given one tiny piece of the puzzle and then another, but the full picture is still a riddle to be solved and I love it!!
not only is there the whole mystery with gorgon and what’s happening in the town, but there’s more on the more existential plane because all these people are dead and jaehwan seems to think that somehow makes him different from them. I can’t wait for him to realize that they are still human at their core too 👀
the smithing process is so interesting too! gosh, this story just keeps on giving 🙏
another 5 stars ⭐️ for great worldbuilding and carlton’s eyelashes 😇

I’m confused about the people inhabiting chaos. The newbies just transported there seem like they just came from earth or from a nightmare tower. But the explanation seems like they went through the tutorial, got picked by one of the masters, fought for them, and then died. Then they get transported to chaos where they’re dead but still age apparently. I wanted to know more about the Janya brothers, what were they running from in the flashback? Were they actually brothers? Because the middle brother called the youngest brother a newbie, it sounded more like they were coworkers than brothers.

So Jaehwan has broken out of his tutorial tower and entered the Tree of Illusion, specifically Chaos the trunk where dead souls go. He's got himself a super powerful sword, maxed out levels, and the ability to see through all lies and secrets. Needless to say, he's the biggest fish in this tiny pond and he's attracting attention from all sides.
Again, I'm not sure where this story is going because we're in a completely made up world where things aren't always as they seem and Jaehwan may not be the most reliable lens. (I get a headache trying to pull logic out of this illusion)
I'm still not completely sold on this series, but I'll keep trying because I can see potential. I think my main problem is that the main character just seem like a shell, he's hasn't really got a personality, or a clear reason behind his goal, so he's not that interesting to read about. Sure, his blunt way of saying things can be a bit funny, but it's not really enough. It's also a bit unfortunate that the most obvious thing that denotes non-humans from humans is clear/white-gray-ish blood or body fluid. It looks... unfortunate.
I still like how this is unique considering the plot originally reminded me of Solo Levelling but a lot of the plot lines in this volume were getting confusing. Information was getting given to you but wasn't elaborated on so it was getting a bit difficult to follow. I hope Mino survives. I wonder if the horn of the 5 horned beast will help since the largest they seemed to use was 3 and he should have at least 2 horns left in his bag.

“Most people here probably wish they could forget considering the circumstances that brought them here”.
“His soul is purer than anyone else’s in all of chaos”. (I’m confused he died or how the f did he got there?)
The purple haired guy seams interesting want to see him again and the bitch that ate the “stone of fallen souls” can suck my none existing d cuz why would he do that, your telling me the law guy and the witch are dying, It’s sad I actually like them

Jaehwan's journey continues in the land of Chaos. This land is a part of the "trunk" of the Tree of Illusion. He meets different people and gets to learn more about the various areas of the Tree of Illusion.
He doesn't want to build any relationship with the people he meets but he doesn't shy away from helping them.
Jaehwan is now super OP and I can see him getting even more powerful as things progress. I want him to get his ‘humanity’ back and care for people again. I hope in the next volume he gets to save Mino.
Somehow the main character has beat the system and is so much stronger than everyone else. We get to see how he can also open up other people to this knowledge and how he sees the others around him. Definitely an interesting story and can't wait to read more.
I didn't really care for the first volume of this. I was left confused after it and was hoping this would answer some of the questions I had but it did not. I like the art style in this which is why its not 1 star
I still do not understand what is happening from panal to panal. Sometimes I flip between pages, wondering if a page is missing because it seems to leap and jump so abruptly.
I like that this break expectations over and over again. In the first book it's the tower, but this one it the world building. The art is awesome. Seriously loving this series.
