Own It: Leaving Behind a Borrowed Faith

Rate this book
The movie Grace Unplugged tells the story of Grace Trey, an ideal Christian teenager who is also a phenomenal singer. But when she is pushed into the “real world” at the tender age of eighteen after getting the music break of a lifetime, her faith is put to the test.

Own It! mirrors the film by asking what it means to really “own” your personal faith rather than just automatically following in the footsteps of parents, friends, or other influencers. Best-selling authors Hayley and Michael DiMarco help readers understand what to do when faith meets real world challenges.

Without solid beliefs, poor choices are likely to follow. You must take the time to really know who you are, who you are becoming, and who God made you to be. It's your personal faith . . . own it!

Exceptional Book

This is a great book that begs you to address 2 Corinthians 13:5 .... EXAMINE YOURSELVES, to see whether you are in the faith. TEST YOURSELVES. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? - unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

While certainly this book is for all ages and for those in varying levels of their faith walk, I do believe it is especially purposeful for those of late middle school to high school and college age, in particular those "raised in the church" .

I finished this one!

This book served as confirmation for the confusion and stagnation I was experiencing in life. I has changed my prospective of faith and has challenged me to "Own It." Read...read...read!!!

Really great book

I don't agree with all their theology, but the message of the book is one we all need to grasp. Very good book.

Quite good (4.5* rounding down), especially for a short book on a small topic. It's an easy read on a challenging subject, and one definitely worth the read.

It's hard for a book to be short and repetitive, but this book manages just fine. A few times I thought I had accidentally started re-reading a previous chapter... That said, it's a simple concept and it's shared anecdotally to encourage readers to actually know what they believe and let that be their guide. Whatever you own, owns you. Therefore, if you own your faith in God, then God owns you. And when God owns you, your life is much more valuable in the grand scheme of things - like Brooke Shields buying back her first car... (http://nyr.kr/190AGBK) ... or something like that.

It's a quick read and is an important concept. This book is also a companion to Grace Unplugged by Melody Carlson.
