I didn’t think the whole “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” thing was true… until I found out my memory and my marriage license had been there for the past fifteen years.

DALTON

My family is old money and my life has been mapped out since before I was born. Become a lawyer, buy a house, get married, carry on the family name—all of that good stuff that comes with this kind of upbringing. I have the job and the house, but instead of the marriage, I’m happy playing the field with a close-knit group of friends. Finding out that I’ve been secretly married for half my adult life was a plot twist I didn’t see coming.

Carter Emerson Royce IV is everything I used to want to be. I haven’t seen him since college, and now he’s asking me to come to New York and pretend we’re the perfect picture of domestic bliss. Considering the history between us, it’s the least I can do.

***

I’m one divorce away from the life of my dreams, and I’m not going to ruin that by doing something stupid like falling in love with my husband.

IVEY

All I need to do is to win over the co-op board for the most upscale building in New York so I can secure keys to the penthouse I’ve wanted for years. It should be easy, but when they ask about my marital status and produce a marriage license from Vegas, my plans are thrown out the window. I’ve spent fifteen years trying to not think about Dalton Fox, but we’re about to get up close and personal again whether we like it or not.

The plan is simple—pretend we’re really married and in love long enough for my application to get approved, Dalton goes back to LA a single man, and I go on with the rest of my life. Except it doesn’t take long for us to learn there’s more between us than history. Dalton and I are compatible in more ways than one, and the spark between us is very bright and very real.

His life is in California and mine is in New York. Being legally bound doesn’t mean anything, but the way Dalton makes me feel has to count for something. He doesn’t just see the darkest parts of me, he mirrors them, he touches them, he…loves them. Soon it becomes clear, the penthouse isn’t the only thing at stake. The rest of our lives—and the future of our marriage—are too.

Possible Triggers: Lots of BDSM, but it's all consensual
I previously read the first 3 books and really liked the characters...all into kinky stuff but very good friends. This is an excellent addition to the series and I'm looking forward to finding #5, Shared. Back to this one. It's about second chances... except it’s less of a second chance and more of an “oops, we screwed up". Seems that 15-years ago Ivey and Dalton got married in Vegas, and then "forgot about it.” This could only have happened on the pages of a book, but what the heck, it made a good story.

When Kate Hawthorne added a bit of the "fake relationship" trope, this all starts to sound more than complicated, but Kate is good at what she does best...write about hot, sexy guys...so she handles the variables and emotions with her usual incredible story writing skills. The kink dynamic between Dalton and Ivey, at its core, is probably one of the most typical D/s dynamics I’ve ever seen from any author. That's one of those reasons that this book reads like a kink romance that's running in reverse rather than full steam ahead. The tension between Dalton and Ivey is strong no matter if the scene takes place today or 15-years ago.

We follow their journey of how they got to this point in their present day, with the two of them first connecting after the shared abuse by an ex. It begins with a trauma bond that initially develops between them and it what sends them to Las Vegas in the first place, without necessarily keeping the focus on why that trauma existed in the first place. Both men have grown up since that first college experience... but the connection between them that was always there, remains. If anything, it made Dalton’s attempt at posing as the dutiful husband in New York City even more dramatic. Unfortunately, the distance doesn’t relieve Dalton of any of the pressure of developing a relationship away from the influence and opinion of his friends.

Not a single character exists in a vacuum, as Dalton faces the NYC chapter of the "Trophy Doms Social Club" who are particularly overprotective of submissive Ivey. A more significant hurdle to Dalton and Ivey’s "happy ever after" however, is the simple logistics of their lives 3,000 miles away on opposite sides of the country. When the stars eventually align, the author has once again done an excellent job of shaping the two characters of Dalton and Ivey, so that the final decisions on both their parts feels natural.

Note: His parents didn't name the poor guy "Ivey". It's what ONLY Dalton has always called Carter Emerson Royce the IV...so, "I-V"...and NOONE but Dalton calls him that.

It didn't take long for me to get invested in Dalton and Ivey's love story, and the more time they spent together the more crystal clear it became that they were absolutely perfect for each other in every conceivable way. I was intrigued by the forgotten connection the two of them had from college, but while that gave them some common ground and shared history to look back on, this book was all about their whirlwind second chance at love. Despite the initial tension between them, Ivey and Dalton fell back into each other's arms so quickly, and their passionate chemistry was as overwhelming as it was irresistible. I loved how spontaneous and right their time together felt, and once they brought their shared kinks into the mix it was impossible to see a world where they walked away from each other again. Dalton was exactly the kind of Dom that Ivey had been looking for, someone to hurt him in all the right ways to satisfy his masochistic tendencies and allow him to serve and be served in an expression of their care and devotion to each other. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them go about life in New York as a new couple, going out on dates and meeting each other's friends and barely keeping their hands off each other. Sure, they may have told each other they were faking it at the start, but with rings on their fingers and declarations of love on their lips, they certainly weren't fooling me. The looming question of how they could make their relationship work while living on opposite coasts was one of the only things standing in their way--though meddling family members tried their best to muck things up. I thought the resolution to that conflict felt satisfying and believable, though I do wish that Ivey and Dalton had gotten some closure with the friends they left behind. It was hard to dwell on that for long when the two of them were so deeply and obviously in love, and their happiness at finally getting to share a home and a life together was everything I needed to walk away knowing that Dalton and Ivey were set for the rest of their lives.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

Being honest, there are aspects of this book that I struggled with.

First on the positive side, Dalton and Ivey haven’t seen each other in 15 years. When they discover, their drunken weekend in Vegas resulted in marriage, a marriage they never dissolved, they have to deal with.

Both men are around 38, are successful lawyers, come from monied families, and work for their fathers. Naturally the fathers want a prenup. They are more worried about protecting their family fortunes than they are about their sons. Dalton and Ivey come up with their own solution.

Ivey’s father doesn’t handle it well. In Dalton’s dad, we get a glimpse of a slightly kinder version, the dad Dalton remembered from childhood before business was the order of the day. Perhaps they can build on this going forward.

Now for the parts I didn’t like. Ivey is a submissive and likes to serve. The idea of meeting someone at the door, removing their shoes, cleaning up after them, running their shower, etc., is too much. Ivey liked it and craved it. It wasn’t something Dalton demanded, but it would not be for me.

Dalton asked Ivey how he felt about pee. It wasn’t something Ivey was overjoyed about. He knew Dalton used it stake his claim, to show ownership. Ivey didn’t want to disappoint Dalton. I wish occasionally in these books the submissive would say that is a big NO for me.

These two played hard. The bruises on Ivey sounded brutal. On two separate occasions, Dalton slapped Ivey hard across the face. I really did not like that. The ending was a HEA, but left somethings up in the air.

Ivey wondered about his job, either remote work, or finding a new job. Dalton told him he would take care of him that he didn’t need a job. This smacked too much of the old roles women were expected to play.

Dalton Fox comes from old money and his life is mapped out that he will become a lawyer, buy a house, get married and have children. He has the first two but is happy playing the field with his close-knit group of friends. Then he is hit with the surprise that he is married to someone from college - Carter Emerson Royce IV - and he wants him to come to New York and pretend they’re the perfect picture of domestic bliss. Ivey just needs to win over the co-op board for the most upscale building in New York so he can have the penthouse that he has wanted for years. When he is asked about his marital status he produces the marriage certificate between him and Dalton from Las Vegas. He just needs Dalton to come to New York, pretend they are happily married and in love, and then they can divorce and both be free. Dalton and Ivey are compatible in more ways than one, and the spark between them is very bright and very real. Dalton's life is in California and Ivey's in New York. and there is far more than them being legally bound, they just need to make decisions and move towards a future together.

I found the start of this story a little boring but as I got into it I became more invested and wanted a good result for them both (no matter their interfering fathers). I loved their passion and their devotion to each other once they made their final decisions. Their kinks fit together perfectly as Ivey was a service sub and Dalton a dominant. I loved the way that they did their best to handle problems that they faced together and talked to try and keep communication clear and open. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like D/s dynamic.

This is another kinky, dynamic relationship from the Trophy Doms world. Dalton, one of the five dom friends, is a successful LA lawyer. All seems right in his world, if not a little boring, when he is served with papers - divorce papers. It's shocking because he didn't even know he was married.

Carter, or Ivey (IV), is also a successful attorney based in NYC. He's a frustrated submissive who cannot find a dom who is a sadist, interested in service kink, and who wants him for who he is as a person. When he applies to the board of a large high-rise to purchase the penthouse apartment, a check into his background brings to light a marriage certificate from 15 years prior when he evidently married his university rival in a drunken Las Vegas ceremony.

After serving papers, the two men decide to meet in NYC for a catch-up and to apologize for the way things were handled before. They also share a mutual difficult circumstance from that era that still affects them. As they spend time together, they find the attraction is still there, it's even stronger now, and that they have some previously unknown kinks that greatly align. Can these two men find their forever love with interfering friends and family and the fact that they live on opposite coasts? This author writes a lot of interesting, unconventional relationships and this one has a bigger submissive, service submission combined with high levels of masochism, and other spoilers that you have to read. This book also has drama, a fair amount of angst, impact and other kink, intense passion, and a beautiful, committed love.

Oh! My! Fricking! Lord! This woman is trying to unalive me like there is no tomorrow!!! Okay, I'm being a little dramatic, but almost not really. Bound is the 4th book in the Trophy Doms series. Books one and two made me cry big ugly tears. Book three was softer but still had me all up in the feels for days. And now! NOW! We have two broken men, bound by a mutual trauma. Do you think I cried? Of course I did. And I was angry on their behalf.

Dalton and Ivey are both from very affluent families. When things happen outside of societal norms, they are taught to supress it. Sadly, that's exactly what they did. Therapy for the win 😭

One weekend links these two forever, even if they can't remember. They have been seperated for 15 years and don't really know each other. When they have to come together to pretend to be married they start discovering each other. Cause, they are handsome, virile, horny 😈 So why wouldn't they 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ivey gets a chance to see what his submission looks like with a Dom he can trust fully. Dalton gets to see how beautiful the submission he never thought he'd get looks. These two are absolutely right for each other. It is very clear how these men spoke to the author and how lovingly and carefully she told their story. Kate is a wonderful storyteller, is a kinky little queen, and will give you a painful good time.

A good start as Dalton and the narrative gives a brief rundown of his early school years and beyond to where the point of being sued.
Dalton was about to be sued by a school friend for something that happened when they were 21. A messy situation with Genevieve leads to a Vegas trip with Carter which Dalton partly doesn't remember.

Carter aka Ivey now c36 yrs gets a surprise that tells that he is married, applying for a penthouse application.
Ivey attended a kink club.
The story is intriguing and mysterious about what happened with Gen and Dalton, it didn't sound good.
Dalton has panic attacks which Carter helps when they meet at the restaurant.
Dalton tells of domestic abuse that he endured which the coindance comes into play for both men.

Okay, at times I got confused at which character was in the dialogue in the first person speech. I had no idea about the penthouse half of the story was true for the marital status in this.
Its undeniable that both characters are attracted to each other even with the 15 years separation. I loved the books before this story but this one didnt connect me to the story or characters.
Not For Me.😔

I can’t tell you how enjoyable these are. Are they formulaic? Yes. But they also deliver each time each one explores a different kink and it’s a lot of fun. I do wish they explored it a little deeper. I would say my only complaint is that each one of these is very surface level.

Each book is basically a meet and greet with some kind of angst, followed by an exploration of the kink in question and then some sort of massive, lifelong love commitment, followed by meeting all of their friends on both sides, rinse, and repeat .

It works though and I’m excited for the final book in this series and I will read the New York ones as well I think if they are as solid as these. I love friend group books, especially when they have a strong dedication to each other as these.

A particularly do like those at the kink is respected and treated as not something silly or frivolous or dirty .

I think this is my favourite book of the series so far! I love the premise - a drunken marriage in Vegas discovered by a third party source doing a background check on one of the men - 15 years later! I love how Kate takes them through getting together, throwing them into needing to 'fake' a relationship and figuring out that they are actually a good match in both their kinks and their desire for a mate...

This book was steamy, seriously kinky and still managed to be sweet! I love that neither man took more than offered and that they built trust in a lovely way.

I also love the way both friend groups supported their person...

I can't wait for the final book in the series!

Great chemistry, questionable plot

3.5 stars. I liked this a lot, but I also think it requires a bit of suspension of disbelief. Does a co-op board really care about marital status?? Wouldn’t they just care about who has the money? Or maybe I don’t know how co-op boards work. So that part was a bit flimsy to me. Plus that a marriage license could be missing for 15 years. Then the fact too that they have this amazing connection with each other, yet they didn’t even think about each other for 15 years? Missed opportunity for some pining/angst. But overall I enjoyed the kink and their chemistry and there’s no third act breakup. It’s just the plot kinda took me out of it.

Mind blowing and delicious!!!😍😍😍

Gah!😍 Dalton and Ivey left me breathless! Kate Hawthorne has done it again. The thrill is ramped up in this unique edition of Trophy Doms. Getting to see how Dalton ticks is intriguing and surprising. His dominant tendencies rage when he's reunited with Ivey...his husband?... Finding Ivey again fuels a Dom/sub relationship that is crazy sexy and neither expects but both miss...😁 You really must read these fantastically kinky books! 😘

Kate Hawthorne writes these amazing, captivating stories that absolutely grab you and don’t let go. Dalton and Ivey are, in one word, everything. The second chance, the pretend-but-not-so-pretend marriage, the heat and the beautiful power play between them made this a book that once I started, I absolutely could not put down. Brilliant.

**4.5 Rounded Up**

This is one of my favorite reads from Hawthorne in a while. Second chance romance, stubborn competent main characters, talking through things, kinky. It was not what i expected for Dalton from the previous books but it fits him and is even better that i thought it could be.
