Shielded by His Darkness

Rate this book
Thirty-three-year-old Solar Moonly had a simple everyday routine. During the day she liked to create different sauces, and at night she managed the local Stop N’ Go with her twenty-five-year-old brother Tyrese. They were roommates and spent a lot of time together, but with him always wanting to hang out with his friends, they had more of a mother-son relationship. Life threw a wrench in her routine when one night she’s held at gunpoint with no witnesses but the sexy yet mysterious customer who saves her. After the dust settled, Solar thought she could return to her life, but when she's rescued by that same mysterious customer again, he pulls her into his dark world. Just like her attackers, he demands something in return. Only his demands involve safe words and bites.

Thirty-seven-year-old Sylence “Sy” Gatz’s life consisted of three bullets, boobs, and bank rolls. He was a paid contract killer that completed every job necessary, until he was contracted to kill the brown-skinned beauty from the Stop N’ Go. Sy didn’t know what it was about Solar that held him hostage, but he knew he couldn’t kill her. After rescuing and spending time with Solar, he wants her to take up occupancy in his home and soon his heart. All she had to do was tell him what he wanted to hear. But that’s if she can handle his extracurricular activity fueled by the moon.

Unbeknownst to the pair, revenge is broiling on high for those disgruntled and betrayed, and they will stop at nothing until both Sylence and Solar are unalived.

Meh 🫤

This book had its highs and lows. It started off strong in the beginning, then began to fizzle out towards the middle and then picked back up again 3/4 in. Calling this a “paranormal” romance was a stretch because the only thing paranormal about the book was the fact that the MMC was a shapeshifter. The romance aspect of the book was a little underwhelming, words like Angel face, honey box and honey pot were cringey 😬 and the chemistry between the two was lukewarm. I did enjoy the plot as well as the little twist in it. There were a few errors. I don’t know if they exceeded 10% of the book but the ones that were there were big enough to be noticeable.

The title had me expecting something else...sadistic D/s scenes and this was not it. This is definitely a romance and I'm here for it. Sy is werewolf bae!!! The play with Solar's name is cute! Great suspense on who was plotting against Solar.

Okay Wynta, I was expecting Sylence to be deep into BDSM or something like that with the “dark” reference, but I was NOT ready for THAT revelation! 🤯 However, Sylence was the man! Moved in, struck, and moved on before anyone even knew he was there.

I felt for Solar with her mundane existence, yearning for more to her life. Well, be careful what you wish for, because you might get it.

Suddenly Solar’s world is flipped upside down, with dangerous happenings all around her. Then there is this mysterious man continues to rescue her, every time she is in trouble. Who is he? How does he know I’m in danger?

Solar and Sylence’s love story was unique, and I loved how she easily accepted him, and all that came with him. (It was a lot) 👀 I was stumped on who was out to get Solar until it was revealed. Really? What did you have to gain by getting Solar out the way huh? Ughh…. 🤬

Will there be more with these characters? I would love to know how Tyrese reacts to Solar's new love and meet Sy's parents.

I hate TikTok for recommending me bs. This book was terribly written, and the editor needs to be fired. It honestly could’ve been a great plot if it hadn’t been so rushed, filled with smut, and written better.

Things that killed me:
•Every woman mentioned was “curvy” and voluptuous.
•The random stuttering.
•Descriptions of Sy’s wealth.
•Music inserts.
•Sy’s werewolf backstory (negative points for him NEVER turning into a werewolf like what was the actual point).
•A sauce and jelly business???
•Solar feeling the baby at < 2 months pregnant..
• “Eight. Spanish, French, Italian, Cantonese, English of course, Indian, Swahili, and Creole Patois.”

Tyrese could’ve been away from day one considering he wasn’t a factor nor was he a serious thought for Solar after she met Sy. He wasn’t even mentioned in the damn epilogue, which is weird given he’s the only living relative that she has.

Enjoyed!

This is my first book from this author and I enjoyed the storyline and the main two characters the suspence had me wanting to know more. I would have liked to know more about her brother.

This was my first book by Wynta Tyme and the genre is a little different than what I usually read but seeing “a paranormal dark romance” in the title piqued my interest.

I read the synopsis and, for some reason, still thought Sy would be some kind of ghost-human hybrid when “full moon” is clearly listed in it lol.

That’s not why I gave the book two stars though. I gave it that rating because the plot and side plots didn’t make sense to me and/or left me with questions. (Warning: I’m about to get into spoilers.)

Initially the contract was put out on Solar because she “stole” $10K (that no one but her and her boss knew about) however in the 3rd act, it was because she was framed for something that had nothing to do with the $10K. It would’ve made more sense for Ellis to overhear the money being offered to Solar and out of jealousy, convinced the boss to put the contract out for Solar by blackmailing him or something.

Then there was this buildup about how Sy was beefing with his aunt for years, only for it to be resolved in like 3 paragraphs of conversation near the end of the book.

Also there was a big focus on Solar’s relationship with her brother, Tyrese, but when he went off to military training, that was it. We didn’t learn if he knew about the fire, the baby, or even Sylence.

As for the romance, it made me think of Beauty and the Beast with a sprinkle of Twilight. Granted, Solar willingly went with Sy and was immediately attracted to him when they first met, but it felt like “I’m just here so I don’t die but you’re cute and intrigue me so we can have sex and now I like you”.

There wasn’t really anything that made me swoon or claim Sy as a book boyfriend but there also wasn’t anything that made me despise him. However, by the 3rd act, Solar and Sy did grow on me, and I liked how Sy handled business to keep her protected.

The writing was extremely amateur and failed to convey any emotion. As a writer, you must know how to arrange words to pull and make the reader experience whatever the character is in that moment. This book was anything but paranormal. Sy's back story of becoming a wolf was lame. I became so bored that I pulled up the reviews just to get the spoilers of the book and decided to just DNF after. What's crazy is that it started off pretty okay and then ... Nothing. Nadda.

The writing style needs tremendous improvement, and the storyline should be thought through more. The reasoning behind wanting Solar killed didn't even fit into anything else that surrounded it. I think a lot of writers and authors fail to reread their previous chapters when working on the book, and that's why the plots fail. When you are working on a book, the best thing to do is to constantly reread before continuing so you can catch the tone of the book before just throwing sentences together and irritating the audience.

5 Stars per usual

I never get tired of giving 5 stars to Wynta's books! They always make me feel happy at the end of reading them and I love the fast paced story telling that she has. Sometimes i need a book that gets to the point but doesn't lack in substance. That's what I have come to expect. Substance and Entertainment.

Sy and Solar are brought together by strenuous circumstances and must work together, along with a few people that Sy trusts, to figure out who has taken a hit out on Solar.

This story is very action packed with a generous amount of spicy scenes.

Who would have thought the stranger who saved you the night the store you worked in was robbed, would end up saving your life a second time. Baby Solar was dealt some heavy cards in life from losing her mom, to her grandmother, to it just being her and her brother. Fast forward, Solar lives a simple basic life and works at a Stop n Go. She’s a beast at making sauces and jellies and that’s what she works on in her spare time.

Let’s just say a stupid proposition, a hit, attempted unaliving AND Sylence, changes EVERYTHING. After Solar is saved by Sylence a 2nd time he takes her to stay with him until they can figure out who wants her unalived. Well let’s just say things get open, honest, interesting, nasty, nasty, and downright warming. Sylence and Solar takes us on a journey we never expected.

Once Solar agrees to be Sylence’s “lamb” it’s over. Baby feelings are involved, attachments are made, and neither is coming up off the other. It’s been months and they finally find out who’s behind the hit and it only escalates from there. Just know Sylence wasn’t giving Solar up and he wasn’t allowing anyone to bring harm to her.

This was an unexpected paranormal (werewolf) story and I LOVED it. The way Wynta wrote Sy and Solar for each other was Chef’s Kiss.

Star level: 4 stars Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Trope: black love, found family, werewolf, protector, jealousy, OWD
Trigger warnings: death, shooting
Fav quotes: “Your face doesn’t scare me. Not even the first time we met. If you don’t mind me saying, I think you-you’re beautiful the way you are. What you may lack in society’s standard of beauty, you make up with your heart”
“You continue to throw arrows in my heart. I can’t dodge them, and I don’t want to”
About the book: I didn’t know this was a werewolf story until I started reading but it wasn’t your typical werewolf story it also gives me a John Wick feel. Main character Solar is a single woman working at a convenience store with here brother until he went off to the marines now she’s all alone living a drama free life. That was until a contract was put on her head to have her kill. Then here comes Sy that so intrigued by her that instead of killing her he saves her and him and his sister Ny use their skills to save her and figure out who and why they want her dead. Who knew jealousy would cause all this drama but that girl got what she deserved at the end. But I do wish we got more with Solar brother and Su family. But over all the book was good with so good drama and action.

her shield and his peace

Sy was a killer and good at it as part of his family legacy. He also had a gift that he saw as a curse. He was lonely, and he didn’t feel worthy of romantic love.
Solar was lonely. She lost all of the people she loved and who loved her back with the exception of her younger brother who was voluntarily leaving her to pursue his next stage of life. She raised him practically so his leaving has left her with sad feelings. She is a sweetheart who is kind and caring as well as beautiful. She doesn’t think too highly of herself because she hasn’t accomplished anything in life, has her ged and works at a gas station.
Due to a series of events that are later revealed to be shady, her life is in danger. Sy decides that she is worthy of saving and does everything in his power to save her. In the process, they fall for each other.
I enjoyed this take on a werewolf because he is a trained assassin and he is not a drug dealer. I liked Solar because even though she was soft and sweet she still had a voice. The sex had a spice level and his den as well as his sexual proclivities contributed to that.
Great read

🔥🔥🔥Real Alpha Male

Absolutely love me an alpha(wolf) male when they are true and genuine their love is unmatched is what I've discovered from other books, and that's exactly what Sylence is; when he gets the contract on Solar it was just something about her and he needed to understand why, so after watching her as well as helping her twice before he actually confronts her his desire for her was growing but he still didn't understand why.
Solar being the provider/protector of her brother did something that she was not proud of and once her brother left to start his own journey she decided that what she received from her investor was not worth her respect and dignity because she could/would never be owned by anyone. With that in mind she decided to return the investment but what she didn't know was that certain events took place and she was.put in danger because of jealousy.
Sylence and his sister continued with their investigation I to why the contract was made and discovered so much all while feelings between him and Solar grew and she accepted his secrets still wanting more. Enjoyed this story wish there was a part two .

Wynta I really think your trying to work your way in today my life every week. I got to print the lust to read all the works you’ve written.

Solar is a 30 something year old woman working in her local Stop and Go store as a cashier. Little did she know there is a contact out on her life. Why? Not even she knows. What we think is the reason, is not. The person who was given the contract to fulfill, Sy, will take a liking to the photo he receives of Solar, prompting him to question the reason for this contract in the first place. Why trying to figure out more information on Solar. Sy ends up saving her life and protecting her until he can figure out who put the contract on Solar and why. Oh….Sy has a secret he’s keeping.

I really loved this book. I appreciate how Solar was just trying to figure out her life but also trying to watch out for her younger brother. I hated how everyone around Solar saw her as just an amazing body to lust over. I also really loved the bond Solar and Sy build. I won’t say too much more because you have to read to find out what sinister things are at play.

This book is between a 3.5-4. The reason why is because the storyline was good but the pet names were so annoying. I cant stand the angel face and blah blah. That was annoying. The “lamb” aspect was a little confusing at first but I would’ve loved to be his lamb hehehe. Solar could’ve had more maturity to her. I understand she lost her entire family but at the same time why was she in her 30’s acting 19? I loved the slow burn of the relationship between Sy & Solar. I do think their relationship is what made the book so good. The storyline of her being out at his house I love a good close proximity romance. I would’ve enjoyed more follow up regarding Solar and Sal. It didn’t make sense that he was ok with Ellis setting her up or maybe bc it was all about money??? I hate that we didn’t get a follow up on her brother I would’ve enjoyed the epilogue to have Solar had her baby and Ty was back. Overall I enjoyed this but there were mistakes in the writing and I would’ve liked more imagery to bring Sy’s werewolf-ness to life. I feel like I couldn’t visualize completely what it was like for him.

Solar and Sylence!!!

Sylence and Solar first met when he saved her life during a robbery at the convenience store where she was working. Unbeknownst to her, he was originally there to carry out a hit on her. After interacting with her, he knew he couldn't bring himself to do the hit. Once he has to save her for the second time, he put her under his protection at his home. I loved the way that Sylence and Solar got to know one another first even though the chemistry between them was sizzling. Sal and Ellis got what they deserved and I didn't feel sorry for them one bit. I hope we will get a book about Sylence's sister, Nyah, as well since she was devastated by the relationship she was in. I was also hoping that we would get an update on Solar's brother. Here's hoping that we will in a follow-up book. The passion, danger, jealousy, betrayal along with some humorous moments made this book a must read.

Communication and Honesty

For all the darkness in this story, if there's one thing I loved wholeheartedly, it was the open communication between everyone in this story. The open discussion of emotions as well as the bits of social commentary fulfilled me. Solar is definitely a soft girl for that soft girl life, but I can't blame her. Not only has she gone through so much, but being a black woman in America is always rough and filled with tough choices. I had no judgement about what she did or the surprise of how it felt to have her pleasure taken into consideration. Experiences can shape people in unexpected ways. Sy on the other hand was definitely set up as the book husband, besides his career, he was essentially perfect. 😂

I enjoyed this on an emotional level. It fulfilled a yearning for close, supportive family bonds and open communication about feelings.

This was more than a Paranormal romance

This book was so good, it was messy with just the right amount of spice. Imagine going to work that night and being offered $10,000 to let your sleazy boss taste you. You do it, get the money but now there is a hit out on you because he claims you stole it. A mysterious dark stranger comes into the store and he saves your life not once but twice. Now you in his home under his protection, you like him and he likes you. He reveals his true self to you and you discover he is a werewolf. Now you should be scared but you are not and agree to be his lamb. This man is giving you everything you never knew you needed. When I tell you this book was a good time. It was so good and is a must read.

Shielded by His Darkness

Solar & Sylence were made for one another! I loved their bond! I was undeniably beautiful. I’m glad he didn’t let her get into her own way just cause she didn’t feel like she was enough for him. Ellis was a true hater/female dog. When we found out the truth I was shocked yet I wasn’t. I love how Sy didn’t pressure Solar into anything but made her feel comfortable and confident! It was weird how everything came out after her brother left but I’m glad cause he probably would’ve been hurt or a distraction. Ny was head strong but with a pure heart & aunt Stelle was that WOMAN!!!

Good

That old Funky Bish Ellis got just wtf she deserved and Sal’s ole fat nasty ahh did too! Sy was the mf man! I loved everything about him! He stood on business and finally found someone who accepted him for who he truly was. Solar endured so much heartache from losing her mom and grandmother. Sy came along and gave her love and a new family with a new bundle of love on the way.

Wow!

Jealousy is a powerful thing. Ellis was so scared that Solar wanted her good for nothing, married man that she framed her for stealing the mob’s money. Enter Sy into the picture and he saved Solar’s life after a hit was put out on her. They became close and inseparable while he was protecting her and fell in love. The story was well written, flowed well and kept my attention. Syntax Tyme is easily becoming one of my favorite authors.

Great story

Another great page turner with some unexpected twists and turns by Wynta
Solar had a hard life but she was resilient and a survivor but jealousy got in the way and forced her life to be in jeopardy
Sylence arrives on the scene and he saves her more than once
A true alpha and something else
You could feel their love off the pages and felt good at the end of the story for Solar
This was a very interesting and enjoyable read and I highly recommend it
Great job Wynta

A sweet urban paranormal love story

This was a cute novella. I love the fact that the FMC was plus sized - size 18
I loved that the MC was not completely beautiful. He had physical scars
I felt that so much of this story was missing but at the same time enough was told to make it complete. I feel that all that was left out was enough for a second book.
Overall a good book and the spice was spicing!!!

Didn't even have to be a paranormal

The suspense was decent. I loved how the characters were well developed and the had feelings for beach other...... more than just the physical. I gave it three stars because it barely scratched the surface of the paranormal. My opinion this could have been a romantic, suspense, thriller. I MIGHT read from this author again but none of her paranormal tropes.

So what you are telling me is that I need to find me a werewolf! Sy was everything, and the way he protected his Lamb was swoon worthy. I just knew jealousy was the reason for the hit. I felt, and I was right. I hate that Erik situation turned out the way it did because Ny deserves happiness as well. I would love to read more about these characters
