If the price is too high, you don’t want it enough.
That’s what I’ve been telling myself, but if I’m honest, I’m afraid I miscalculated my ability to withstand pain. After stumbling across a secret so dangerous my enemies would break universal laws to keep it, I formed a plan that would ensure the safety and freedom of my loved ones. But now I’m staring evil in the face, and I don’t think I’ll make it to the next suns’ rise. When my savior arrived in the form of a hunky daydream, I thought I must have died. But now I’m suffering a different kind of pain, the cost of which I’m willing to pay … but does he feel the same? Maybe we aren't exactly fated mate material. But even if he does, can we both survive the chaos that threatens to destroy everything and everyone we love?

I’ve been following this adventurous romantic sci-fi series since the beginning and the final book has lived up to all my expectations. CeCe is a wonderful character who goes through a terrible time only to be saved by the last unmated Theraxyl, the grumpy and sad Raxthezana. Many of the overarching threats from all the novels come to a head here. We see loads more of Ikshe the sister planet to Predator Planet and we see the evil IGMC and Esra’s abusive ex make a sinister appearance. I must say I LOVED what happened to Chris at the end. Exactly what I was hoping. Talk about poetic justice. This author really amazes with her vibrant world building and scientific knowledge. Now that we know CeCe’s actions and plans at the moment of the mother ships ejection of all the pods, and that there are many more people who have been sent out to other unknown planets in the EEPS, I am really hoping for more adventures and romances to come.
Predator Planet really is my favourite sci-fi series! Light on romance, deep in intellect, heavy on emotion, tasteful in steam, it really is a perfect melange for "girls who like science."
Hidden in Predator Planet is Cecilia Pain's story. CeCe is the creator of the altruistic and maternal Artificial Intelligence VELMA, who has conscientiously guided each of the previous stranded miners who have individually crashed into planet Ikthe (aka Certain Death). CeCe is also the architect of their evacuation from the mother ship Lucidity and the engineer of their unique peer grouping. She had a very good reason to defy the InterGalactic Mining Conglomerate, despite the fact that it has put her in an untenable and grossly inhumane circumstance with the vengeful masters of IGMC.
Raxthezana is the last unmated of the Lottery Five hunters. He has no regard for the Goddesses, not since he lost his heart mate when they were only small children. Science, not prayers, is where he turned to seek out the cause of the infant burial disease. But ever since the female "soft travellers" have pieced together the evidence that their compatriot is trapped on the sister planet of Ikshe, Raxthezana has felt CeCe's suffering with uncanny certainty and is determined to personally retrieve her from his enemy's grasp.
Hidden is remarkable for the heroism of both CeCe and Raxthezana. CeCe's torment emotionally wrecked me. Raxthezana's rescue and companionship was a restorative balm. Add together the multiple points of view of each of our miners and their hunters, plus a few villains in the mix, and the overall picture is lucid, brisk, and compelling. Never a lull in momentum, the short chapters and many view points keep pushing me forward. I love the message of love and camaraderie that underlies Vicky Holt tale of survival and discovery. Each of the Theraxl warriors would lay down their lives for their new heart mates, but they are equally confident in their counterparts' abilities to defend themselves and each other. Hidden in Predator Planet is a fabulous series finale. Highly recommend!
OH MY GOODNESS. CeCe's story is WHAT NOW? (I mean that in the best way) Joan figured some things out in the last book and HOO-BOY has CeCe been through a lot. Not only was she the catalyst for what happened aboard their convoy ship (and ended up with the human ladies landing on the planet), but she's been tormented and haunted by the ghost of her actions since she landed on the alien planet.
Somehow...SOMEHOW she's managed to survive long enough for Raxthezana to get her out of her sticky situation, but the wild ride doesn't end there. The nightmare planet is still on the brink of tearing itself apart and her employers have a long reach. Which means she and the other survivors aren't safe no matter where they end up.
That said, THINGS HAPPEN in this book. Not only do we get to meet the mysterious CeCe and see her become bigger and better than she was before (Predator planet seems to have that effect on people!), but ALL the hunters and their mates still have to finish the quest the mad queen sent the hunters on and BOY does the planet like to throw dangerous critters in their direction. Raxthezana helps her survive in the only way he can and these two figure things out amidst some serious PTSD, Raxthezana's certainty that his heart had already loved and lost, and the planet trying its level best to flatten them at every turn.
Dangerous enemies, a planet in turmoil, an AI that becomes more than it was, a quest that makes every attempt to end the group, a hunter who doesn't back down from doing what has to be done, and a lady who is as brilliant as she is brave. I'm sad to see this series end, but BOY did it go out with a bang.
4.5 stars. This LONG story is multi-POV, though mainly the lead characters, Cece, the female human lead, and Raxthezana, the male alien lead. The story is well written and edited, and the last part of a sci-fi story arc. I have only read this story in the series (I only recently discovered the author!) and, whilst the romance stood alone, the rest of the story would have been significantly enhanced by reading the previous four - it was coherent but I could tell there were pieces I was missing. I found this story detailed, coherent, complex, and engaging.
I enjoyed Cece’s personality and strength, her perseverance and resilience. I enjoyed Rexthezana’s gentle care and supportiveness during both Cece’s weak and strong points. I enjoyed the character development of the lead characters and the relationship development. I enjoyed the integrated other characters and the information the chapters from their perspectives provided. I enjoyed the found family vibe. I enjoyed the way the overarching plot was closed, with what appeared to be many small plot points resolved. I also enjoy that the author has left scope for more stories in this world but doesn’t require them to be told.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
Audiobook: I was as entertained by book five as I was with the other books in the series. I found it satisfying that the last book in the series answered all the questions that began with the first book. I admired the worldbuilding and the various and creative species which inhabited the planet. I liked Raxthezana's and Cece's twisted path of discovery and love. I was often on the edge of my seat with the non-stop action. I experienced some bittersweet sorrow as this was the last book in a series that I enjoyed a lot. I considered Paul Metcalfe's narration good, and his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was gifted a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which included my honest opinions regarding this story.
Hidden in Predator Planet is the fifth book in the Predator Planet series by Vicky L Holt. This is the first time reading works by this author. It certainly won't be the last. Honestly I didn't know what to expect. The story is wonderfully written with rich detail and pulls you into this world. Strong intelligent FMC, grumpy alien MMC, action, romance, and space adventure. I absolutely loved it. I look forward to reading more from this world (previous books in this series) and author. I highly recommend this book.
This was a fab finale and an exciting read. As with the other books in the series, the author crafted a richly detailed world with action, adventure, danger and romance while pulling together all the threads we've been following throughout the series into a satisfying conclusion. Cece was such a strong and intelligent woman, and Raxthenzana, quite the grumpy alien ;) Together they were great and I loved diving into this full read. It's looking like we may get some off-shoot stories/series so my fingers are crossed for more ;D
This series has been building up to an epic finish, and boy did it deliver! All the loose threads were tied up, all the girls found their mates, all the bad guys got their due, and everyone lived happily ever after. 💖
A little bit of romance, slow burn with a lot of sci fi. Science and world building really excel in this story. I could go o. And on with descriptive adjectives praising the author and story. Highly recommended, enjoy!
I have to admit to being a fan from the first time I accidentally found book 1. I have snapped up every chapter in the predator planet series one after another. The target audience would be science fiction enthusiasts or anyone who like skillful writing. There is nothing like it and it's refreshing. You will be so shocked at the political goings on behind the scenes. It has been going on this WHOLE time.
This is not a standalone. It's best to start at the beginning first. This book is very interesting. Each character that we have been introduced to add more to the story. You will not be able to predict this story. I usually am good at figuring it out ahead of time. This is a continuation of the past story. It doesn't have a cliff hanger ending.
This story was well edited and I found no typos or misspellings. This isn't a fast read. I loved finding out more about what happened to start this whole journey. I enjoyed the length. I wasn't able to read it in one sitting due to family and work lol.
The two main characters. I absolutely LOVED CeCe Pain ever since we learned of her in Trapped on Predator Planet (4). She is a warrior inside and out. Her back story was interesting too. Raxthazana is a honorable male who feels like he has to figure out what is happening to the babies. He's lost all belief in the Goddesses.
My biggest pleasure was the climax. (You'll have to read to see). You'll see past characters coming into the story. I love this. My favorite secondary character is Velma once again. She steals the show at times. Diablo too lol!
The writing made me feel as if I was there in the story. The flow and progression was genius. I just love this wild, untamed world Iktheka. I hate that this is the end. I want more of this universe. I found the overall story's theme of dualities to be interesting. I highly recommend this book and author. I will definitely read more of the authors work.
