Life for Maleah Stevens is pretty great. Men suck, but that’s to be expected, right? But one evening, after a run-in with a psycho, she winds up being rescued by…another psycho. Unfortunately for her, he’s also tall, dark, and mysterious. And when he crashes back into her life, she can't help but want to uncover his mysteries. I mean, why not? When has curiosity ever killed anyone? Enzo’s life has been drab, to say the least. Stuck on a plane between two realms he’s no longer welcome in. His only solace happens to be an internal squatter he’s trying to get rid of. After being let down time and time again throughout his existence. Not caring about anyone but himself has worked out pretty flipping great. Until he meets her. And then he has to go and do something stupid like save her. When what seems to be a noble, heroic act turns out to be more than what he asked for, can he walk away or allow himself to give in to that thing within her that calls to him?
So take my review with a grain of salt because, I wrote the damn book. However, that doesn’t really take away from the fact that it IS pretty good 😌 It’s my first self published book and I realize I made a few (dumb) mistakes within. And missed a few things in my editing. So please forgive me and know that moving forward I will only improve.
Thanks for reading and even more thanks for leaving a review!
Not for me. It was definitely action packed, I just found it to be a little bit more than I bargained for. I was done at the 34% mark, especially when the dead started to come back to life! I kept waiting for something more, a connection, something.. and then, I cut my losses.
This was so good!!! It ticks all the boxes I look for in my novels. Strong heroine without being too forced or cringe. Good plot, adrenaline inducing action sequences, fantastic storytelling, well executed conflict! “The Fallen” took me on an exhilarating ride. Guess what? I savoured EVERY SECOND of it!!!!
Maleah is all I want my female leads to be. Strong, vulnerable, not all consumed by the male lead, but still in love with him. I loved how she wasn’t a shrinking violet, but also want a Mary Sue after the events started unfolding. I enjoyed her sharp retorts to Enzo and that she kept him in a tailspin. Never let them know your next move. Lol.
Enzo was brooding, abrasive, yet funny as heck. That scene with Azra when she smeared him with the paste had me laughing so hard I had tears streaming down my face. He was definitely uncouth and seriously rough around the edges- he annoyed me so many times in the beginning. I wanted to throw a shoe at him, but we saw him grow and learn the reason behind his behaviour. He had a tough background and he was always considering the feelings of those closest to him, because he sure didn’t care about the feelings of anyone else. He roasted everyone equally. Lol. Eventually, he did start opening up and show some of his vulnerabilities, which I liked. I will say that I am so mad it took him that Elder Demon moment to share that with Maleah.
Zachriel - I loved him and felt so bad for him. He was so sweet and gentle, I wanted him as the endgame. He still might be, this book does end in a cliffhanger, so who knows what the next instalment will bring? Then again, we know he’s not and the reason explained, but darn it. I want him to get his HEA. I definitely thought this book would go to MFM route when I first started reading. And honestly, I would be okay with that because both men are in love with Maleah and I couldn’t choose who I wanted her with more once Enzo started behaving himself. Let’s hope Zachriel is given his own chance at happiness in the next one.
Honestly loved the plot. I loved the way the story was told, the characters (main ones) had growth and development. They were not simply good or evil but had morally grey areas. They were complex. Their emotions, their beliefs and goals and ambitions. It was all well done.
After the 60% mark, what happened with Maleah was believable- storytelling wise. She read different from the woman we had come to get to know up to 59% of the story and that makes sense. I won’t spoil it, but you also would not know how to act if you had these changes thrust upon you so suddenly. Kudos to the author for writing in this subtly change in her POV so deftly.
I loved the big bad reveal!!! I loved the boss battle and really felt the stakes! Each scene was very well described and they didn’t feel rushed or erratically paced. The writing was so well, I felt as though I was watching it play out as a movie on the pages infront of me.
Really enjoyed this one and is anxiously awaiting the next book!
Maleah and Enzo meet when she's accosted by and almost raped by a man at a gas station. Enzo helps her out by breaking the assailant's neck and taking off. However, neither can stop thinking about the other. Although Enzo has his own things to deal with, such as the fact that his brother Zachriel's soul shares a body with him, thoughts return to Maleah for both of them regularly. After a botched attempt to separate his brother's soul, Zachriel is now in charge of Enzo's body and is able to call on his own powers. Zachriel, injured in Enzo's body teleports to Maleah's house. Maleah finds an injured Enzo, really Zachriel in control of Enzo's body, and does what she can do get him back to good health.
Slowly, Maleah's eyes are opened to the supernatural. Enzo is a demon and angels exist. She and Enzo have this crazy chemistry and a lot of the book is spent with touching and almosts before they finally get together physically. For me, the almosts were more, particularly the almost in the hotel. Also for me, once we get to the revelations, the book takes a dive in terms of my interest and enjoyment in it which is about the 67% mark I think. It's when an idea that's been tossed around here and there throughout the book is revealed. That is Maleah is the woman Enzo loved so many centuries ago reborn, they're soul mates and she's the new Divinity, which is the role he was protecting at one time when he used to be an angel. Sighs. I'm absolutely certain my disappointment with this book comes from the fact that I liked Zachriel a lot more than Enzo, was hoping the book would eventually reunite him with his body, and with that body Maleah would have a mini harem. Alas, that's but what happened at all. Turns out Zachriel has been in love with Maleah but both brothers held their feelings back from her, Enzo because he knew how his brother felt, and Zachriel because he knew that Enzo and Maleah were soul mates. Fast forward centuries from then to now and those feelings get discussed and Zachriel's romantic feelings are rejected by Maleah though not unkindly.
Anyway, hell gates, angels, demons, Divinity, prophets, witches, and zombies make appearances. Maleah's best friend Finley was the devil is disguise, literally, and since they were children. Maleah recovers her memories and so does Enzo and once they all recognize who they were, Maleah is now a warrior woman in her own right which is what she was centuries before. After he Awakening, she has incredible powers that she doesn't know yet how to fully use, and charges into battle to fulfill her purpose. This I struggled with as well because while Maleah was by no means a shrinking violet, she also wasn't portrayed as a fierce fighter either early, she was mostly a passionate snappy and especially when it came to her interactions with Enzo. The dialogue and characters were different, I enjoyed some of the banter between the brothers and also between Enzo and Maleah.
There were typos and misspelled words, some made me cringe. Torcher was used a couple of times instead of torture. There's place where words are left hanging out there on its own. All in all, this book ends with a cliff hanger but I'm not interested in the next so I didn't get too worked up about that part.
I just can’t do Zombies. It gives me the creeps. I read to 35% then skimmed to last 3 chapters to finish. I’m so happy I did because it was a cliffhanger.

Action packed from the beginning to the end and a edge of your seat anticipation. This was a unexpected surprise by a new author that I happened to luck upon. This book is a rare 5 star book from new author which are hard to come by these days. Erotica thats off the charts but a great story as well we have a divine being maleah a gentle young black woman who meets her Other half and soul mate but neither know at first but soon figure out and awakens her power, Enzo a sexy dominant blue/ green eyed sexy demon with a angel inside him is my new book bae! Angel and demons fight for the human race and the fight against the apocalypse are all weaved together masterfully in this book and I can't wait for the next book.
I am in my feels about this book. So so good. But I am also salty that I don’t have another book and now have to (im)patiently wait for the next installment. Very easy read that had everything I like in an escape.
I’ll admit I have some gripes with the story, but overall it’s a good read. I laughed at some parts but mostly was rolling my eyes with the male lead.
I love Maleah, definitely sassy but also stubborn as a mule. Enzo, our male lead, gave me season one Damon vibes from the Vampire Diaries: stubborn, douchey at times and is ask questions later and kill in the moment. But neither of them are bad, just not my favorites. No, that honor goes to Zachriel, Enzo’s brother. I won’t spoil anything outside of I love his commentary.
My biggest gripe is the multiple POVs in some chapters. I get it but it gave me some whiplash. Also way too many characters and plot twists for my liking (and I LOVE them).
Spice wise? I will give a 2.5 🌶️. Good but it can improve, you know?
I think the biggest plot twist was towards the end for me. But, it definitely leaves me wanting more.
I had no idea of the journey I embarked on by opening this book. I enjoyed the creative liberties the author took to build a wonderful tale filled with action, angst and a splash of comedy. Maleah is thrown into a crazy world of the unimaginable when a crazy man at a truck stop tries to kill her. Enzo just happens to be there and offers his services. Then everything gets weird. I enjoyed the story, but there were some editing issues, and maybe a plot hole or two...though at this point I don't remember. What I do remember is the nasty cliffhanger! Enzo, Maleah and Zachriel are great characters. I thought it was easy enough to figure everything out so far. But this story is far from over. I am happy that the next book is already available. Otherwise, I would have been a mess! This is an adult read with language and actions.
could’ve been great Real rating 3.5 I want to start by saying I really liked the concept of this book. I wanted to love this book and in some aspects I did.I case the author sees this, the criticism is meant to be constructive and in no way a negative towards you. This was a good story that suffered from a lack of editing, it needed some technical corrections and some minor continuity editing. I feel like with a good editor this could have been a 5 star read. It had likeable characters, and had plenty of action to keep you going. It was a tad predictable at times, but it wasn’t the worst thing. All in all I hope that when the second book comes out, there is a good editor and maybe a beta reader or two to avoid some of the issues that happened in this one.
I LOVE this book series. Sevyn Wynters was my first Booktok read and I fell in love with her and her writing! I actually loved the Kindle books so much I bought the physical copies.
If you love paranormal romance with a good heavy side of spicy: you will love this series! The characters are diverse, deep, flawed, and so interesting to get to know as the story goes on. I never wanted any of it to end.
It’s a relatively easy read that sucks you in and leaves you wanting more. She’s a great author who does an awesome job developing her characters and the stories and I will never not recommend this book or the series to anyone that I speak with when they ask for new book recs.
Thank you for my favorite read of 2024(so far)! I LOVE the supernatural, and you have done such a masterful job of weaving love, passion, sacrifice, and the friggin' apocalypse together, that I was on the edge of my seat for the entire novel. While I do hate cliff hangers, I can't hardly wait to get another dose of Enzo and Maleah's love story. My only critique: your mechanics need an overhaul. Your use of punctuation steps on your intentions, and will confuse a less than close reader.
I found the story to be really interesting and engaging. I’m looking forward to reading the next part. The only drawbacks (that almost had me abandoning the book early on and bugged me a few times after I’d committed to reading it) were some repeated grammatical issues (the opposite of “preceding” is “succeeding” or “following” NOT “proceeding“) and some repeated spelling errors (it’s “torture” not “torcher”). The story crafting was really good; they just needed a better editor.
LOVE Enzo and Maleah's story! I cannot wait to read what comes next. Unfortunately, the typos in this book are so frequent and wild it pulled me from the fantasy! Im pretty gracious because i cant imagine how difficult it must be to write and publish, but whew!
Sevyn has an amazing, fresh writing style that feels like a breath of fresh air in all the "romantasy" I have read! Thrilled to have found this author and this book!
A few key points for romance readers. . . 1. There isn't much romance, just someone waiting to get their memories back. 2. There's a huge cliffhanger that makes the book pointless to read until the next book is out. Do yourself a favor and just wait. 3. It about 85% fantasy and 15% romance. 4. There are quite a few plot holes, so be prepared to be confused from time to time.
Sevyn just got herself a new loyal reader!!! Even though initially this wasn’t my usual go to genre, I loved everything about it even though I felt like was sinning the entire time. Buuuuuut Enzo and Leah were the perfect match and the plot twist I deffo didn’t see coming. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book it was a great read and great for a 1st time novel. I loved Maleah she literally came off tough from the beginning and when it turned out she was power it made sense, like she had a fearless approach to life. You will not be disappointed with this read.
Absolutely excellent. Everything I have wanted in a book for a really long time. Fresh, new, unpredictable, and not cliche and repeated. I don't want to puch the chick in her face, which is nice, and Enzo and z; well they're sexy as hell. There are some typos, but who cares when the story is this damn good. I'm off to the next adventure in this series. Please read!
This story has so many twist and turns. Maleah is living her life selling real estate, until one night she had to be rescued by Enzo, who turned out to be a demon. There are so many demons and angels it was hard to keep up with what each wanted. Maleah and Enzo had so many things to overcome.
This is my first book from this author and I really like how creative this story was. I'm a fan of this genre and thought the author did a great job with the fantasy and paranormal in this book. The story was fun and exciting with some steamy scenes and lots of action. Great pace like a good movie. I will definitely be reading the next book.
Don’t believe the 1 and 2 start reviews. The book was beautifully written. It kept my attention, very descriptive but didn’t over due it. It wasn’t cringy and as much as I usually HATE anything zombies, it was just enough of a hint to not make it took much. GREAT WORK Ms. Wynters. On to book 2
The plot was definitely intriguing and had a lot of potential to keep readers hooked. The pacing was solid, and the world-building seemed well thought out. However, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I personally don’t enjoy books that include demons as characters, so it was hard for me to fully connect with the story. If supernatural or demonic elements are your thing, you’ll probably love this one—but for me, it missed the mark.
The book immediately captured my attention and didn’t let go until the ending! The story was new and fun. The characters were awesome with so many layers and mystery that you just had to keep reading to learn more. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
I couldn’t put this down. Initially, I didn’t know what to expect when I started, but once the action started, I was glued. I’m looking forward to part 2. Let’s get Enzo back!!
This is my first book by Sevyn Wynters and what can I say, I’m a huge fan already. This story has everything! Wit intrigue fantasy, steam you name it. I cant wait to get my sequel read on!!!!
Book 1 of 1 but ends with a to be continued makes no sense
Book 1 of 1 but ends with a to be continued makes no sense that’s why I gave it 3*. It was also a little confusing in parts but I loved the relationship between Enzo and ‘little mouse’. It had humour, intrigue and fun.
Sevyn Wynter's debut novel is a paranormal, second chance, romance with angels and demons. After a stranger rescues Maleah Stevens, her life will forever change. Enzo is on a quest to find out how to get his brother back into his body. He saves a beautiful woman who is in distress. Enzo and Maleah are unaware of the extent to which their lives are intertwined.
I like that paranormal though at one point the story drags on for me. The story was intriguing, with great world-building, and I found it to be a pleasant read overall. If you're into paranormal, I recommend this story. I give it a score of 4.5 stars.
