Laurel left Coal's Lake ten years ago as a grieving teen, now she’s moving back with a baby boy in tow. Starting from scratch, she’s hopeful she’ll be able to make her son’s first holiday season in her hometown memorable. When she runs into her childhood friend, Brennan, old feelings come rushing back and it’s as if she never left.
Brennan
Brennan wants to create holiday traditions of his own, but who will he share them with? As a small-town police constable, finding someone feels impossible. When he spots his oldest friend and feels what it’s like to have her in his arms, he knows she’s the one who got away. He’s determined to prove that she can count on him this Christmas and every day after.
Cupid's Christmas is a small-town, second-chance romance novella.
Kelsey Woods is the author of debut novel, Lovingly Restored. She wrote her first book on a typewriter at five years old. While ‘Sugar The Adventurous Hummingbird’ was lovely, she now prefers using her Microsoft Surface to bring you spicy contemporary romance.
Kelsey can be found attached at the hip to her emotional support Kindle or in recreation centre workout classes with women in their seventies.
Mother of two daughters and police wife, she lives on beautiful Vancouver Island and will brag about her proximity to the Pacific Ocean at every opportunity.
𝐕𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐬: I’m TOTALLY picking Hallmark holiday movie vibes, but it’s so much better with SPICE! This is the perfect holiday novella. Cinnamon roll MMC who knows what he wants. Strong momma who is moving back to her favorite place for find a better life for her baby boy. Holiday miracles, generosity rewarded, blizzard conditions, Christmas Bucket Lists… you will not be disappointed. This sweet and spicy book will be perfect for your virtual stocking this holiday season!
Thank you so much @kelseywoodswrites for sending me this ARC! You're amazing! 🫶
𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: Laurel Gaudet is moving back to Coals Lake to start over. Leaving behind the weight of her previous relationship, she’s determined to give her baby Jeremiah the best childhood and Christmas. When fate puts Bren, her childhood best friend back in her path, she might just get the best gift of all…
Brennan Cupid is the quintessential small town cop, but the bachelor life is losing its luster. He’s only seen one girl in his future and she left town years ago. When Lo moves back to Coals Lake, will he finally experience the joy he’s been searching for?
Returning to Coal's Lake after a decade, and now a mother, Laurel finds herself starting anew after leaving her less-than-ideal baby daddy. Serendipity smiles upon her as she secures a fantastic apartment, lands a job with built-in daycare, and reignites her friendship with a man who was once her closest confidant. For Brennan, Laurel has always been the one who slipped through his fingers. With her back in his life, he's determined to do everything he can to convince her to stay with him this time around. He wants nothing more than to start a family and make his own Christmas traditions. In The Twelve Days of Smutmas, Cupid’s Christmas is possibly the most heartwarming. Perhaps it's the single mom narrative that tugged at my heartstrings, but I found myself thoroughly enchanted by Laurel's journey to rebuild her life after parting ways with her troublesome ex. Brennan, portrayed as a genuinely sweet man, adds to the charm as he remains steadfast in his desire for her, even after all these years. His acceptance of her child from another man, embracing both mother and baby, speaks volumes about his character. I wholeheartedly recommend this novella to those who relish sweet, small-town romances featurin
"Objects in mirror really were closer than they appeared because while I’d been ogling the lower half of a well-built Mountie, he reached my driver's side door."
♡This was my first read by Kelsey Woods & I loved it! 10 years feels like just yesterday when childhood best friends Brennan & Laurel cross paths in the small-town they grew up in. Cupid's Christmas was a short & sweet, second-chance holiday novella with a little bit of spice & a lot of laughs!
The duet narration for this audiobook was great! Rob did an amazing job bringing our love struck small-town police officer to life! Lessa did an amazing job bringing our Laurel our sweet newly single mom to life! Their voices paired super well together!♡
This audiobook had such a warm, cozy feeling. I enjoyed the story of a single mom and the local policeman — their interactions felt natural, sweet, and heartfelt
The small-town setting made everything feel intimate and charming. I liked how the author showed the community around them, adding depth to their connection and everyday life.
The romance developed at a comfortable pace, with moments that made me smile and others that were quietly touching. I appreciated how genuine the characters felt and how their relationship grew with care and understanding.
Listening to this story left me feeling uplifted. It was a gentle, heartwarming romance that balanced emotion, sweetness, and everyday life in a way that felt very real.
On the 9th day of Christmas, Kelsey gave to me....
Kelsey is a new to me author and if you haven't figured it out by now, it makes my heart so happy to read new authors and this is no different.
This book was so freaking sweet and I'm obsessing over it! 😍 the relationship that Bren and Laurel have is just amazing and I love how they basically just fell in as if 10 years haven't gone by! And uhm can we talk about how freaking adorable he is with Jer 🥹

Thoughts: This is such a cute read - perfect for the holiday season and great for second chance lovers. I was hooked from the start until the finish and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Narration: The narrator choices for this one were perfect, they did such a great job at bringing this story to life.
3.75 A cute, fast seasonal read. As I often feel with novellas, it could have been longer and a bit more fleshed out. But, the small town setting and second chance at love storyline helped it feel less rushed than others.
Omg this was such a cute Christmas story 🥹🥹. I loved the storyline the childhood friends aspect to it. I thought it was very cute and absolute easy read.

I just finished Cupid's Christmas by Kelsey Woods, and honestly, this is one of those feel-good holiday romances I can see myself revisiting every single Christmas season. This sweet and emotional novella, which is part of The Twelve Days of Smutmas, is possibly the most heartwarming entry, and it’s a perfect, low-angst escape to get you in the holiday spirit. It’s short, sweet, and just packed with all the right holiday vibes, earning a wholehearted Five-Star recommendation. The entire experience was only enhanced by the wonderful duet narration by Lessa Lamb and Robert Hatchet.
The story is a delightful small-town, second-chance romance that focuses on childhood friends Laurel and Brennan. Laurel is returning to her hometown of Coal's Lake after a decade away, now a single mother starting fresh after leaving a less-than-ideal ex. Serendipity seems to smile upon her as she secures a fantastic apartment and a job with built-in daycare. Returning to Coal's Lake means she runs right into Brennan, her closest confidant from childhood, and old feelings come rushing back.
Brennan, a small-town police constable, has always viewed Laurel as the one who got away. Her return reignites those feelings, and he’s determined to do everything he can to convince her to stay with him this time around. He wants nothing more than to start a family and create his own Christmas traditions with her, proving he's the one she can count on this Christmas and every day after.
What I loved most is the second-chance storyline of childhood friends finding their way back to each other as adults; it’s wonderfully nostalgic and moving. The narrative shines as we follow Laurel's journey to rebuild her life as a single mom, a journey that felt incredibly real and humbling.
Brennan is a genuinely sweet man and the perfect hero. I have a soft spot for a hero who steps up as a father figure, and this one delivers: his immediate acceptance and embracing of Laurel's child from another man speaks volumes about his character. He is determined to make her son's first holiday season in Coal's Lake memorable.
The book delivers a perfect mix of emotional feels: genuine romance, a delightful dash of spice, and the undeniable sprinkle of Christmas magic. The captivating duet narration by Lessa Lamb and Robert Hatchet truly brought incredible depth and emotion to these characters. If you need a cozy, emotional, and quick read featuring a lovable single mom and a steadfast hero, Cupid's Christmas is a little gem I highly recommend.
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Cupid’s Christmas delivers exactly what the title promises: a warm, nostalgic, small-town holiday romance where second chances glow as brightly as the Christmas lights in Coal’s Lake. Laurel’s return to her hometown ten years after heartbreak sets the emotional tone, especially as she navigates single motherhood and the pull of old memories. The story is soft, hopeful, and wrapped tightly in holiday charm. It is my first book by Kelsey Woods, and while the novella leans heavily into predictability, it also offers the cozy comfort and sweetness you want from a winter-themed romance.
The Story
Laurel comes home with her baby boy, hoping to give him a magical first holiday season. Running into Brennan, her childhood friend, brings back feelings she never truly left behind. Brennan, steady and longing for traditions of his own, sees instantly what he has been missing all these years. Their connection rekindles quickly, tenderness replacing the time apart. It is a classic second-chance setup, and yes, the plot is straightforward and easy to foresee, but that predictability works if you enjoy simple holiday romance with comforting beats and gentle emotion. The entire novella has the energy of a Hallmark movie, just with a touch of open-door spice.
What I Loved
✔️ Sweet, heartfelt second-chance dynamic ✔️ Holiday warmth in every scene ✔️ Low-angst, gentle pacing ✔️ A cozy small-town setting ✔️ A soft, supportive MMC ✔️ Perfect for readers who love predictable, feel-good Christmas romance
🎧 Narration
Rob Hatchet and Lessa Lam deliver a charming duet narration. Rob captures Brennan’s small-town sincerity and quiet devotion perfectly. Lessa brings Laurel to life with warmth, strength, and the softness of a new mom starting over. Their voices blend beautifully, especially in the tender moments. Both narrators were new to me, and I am definitely curious to hear more from them.
Tropes & Vibes
✔️ Second chance ✔️ Small town ✔️ Holiday romance ✔️ Single mom ✔️ Friends to lovers ✔️ Predictable but cozy ✔️ Hallmark energy with open-door spice
Final Thoughts
Cupid’s Christmas is a quick, sweet, and predictable holiday romance that leans into comfort rather than surprise. If you want something light, warm, and filled with the charm of snow-covered small towns, this novella is exactly that. It has the vibe of a holiday movie come to life, making it an easy and enjoyable seasonal listen.
Cupid's Christmas (Coal's Lake novella) by Kelsey Woods ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶️🌶️ Dual POV * Holidays * Second Chances * Single Mom * Contemporary Romance * Small Town * Snowstorm * Canadian Mountie * Sick Care * 84 pages * 🎧2h05
I listened to this story via audio, produced by High Gravity Production and narrated by two new to me narrators. Lessa Lamb and Robert Hatchet. I just love discovering the vast amount of amazing narrators out there!
Another short and sweet Christmas story and surprise, another set-in-Canada holiday treat! This cozy novella gives us a second-chance romance a decade later between high school best friends, and it’s full of the warm, fuzzy holiday feelings we crave this time of year.
The holiday season just hits differently with these romances, I can’t get enough of them lately. Since I haven’t been watching much TV, these books have become my Hallmark movie replacements, and Cupid’s Christmas could easily be one of them.
Brennan and Laurel were both such lovable characters. Brennan is a total green flag, the kind of guy you know will treat you right. But Laurel stole my heart. She’s strong, independent, and doing her best as a single mom, while still realizing she deserves love and care too. I loved seeing her journey toward allowing herself happiness beyond motherhood.
All in all, a beautiful Christmas story that made my heart happy. Oh and a bit of spice thrown in too.
This book was cute in a predictable hallmark movie type of way. I’ve never read anything by this author and I likely won’t again. But it was part of the 12 days of Smutmas so I decided to give it a go.
The story itself was cute. Single mom leaves the shithead deadbeat baby dad and moves back to the small town she’s from. These she finds her high school best friend that she would have ended up with if her mom had never moved them away. Her and high school boy fall right back into the way they have always been. She has a kid of course that’s no problem and he steps right in. Then they go do a bucket list of cute Christmas stuff together.
It was a cute second chance romance. It was just really predictable. If you’re into that you would love this. This was just like a cute hallmark Christmas move. I personally am just not into that.
Spice I would say two 🌶️s. There are a few scenes that are somewhat described. It’s pretty basic romance smut scenes. For this being part of 12 days of Smutmas I wouldn’t consider this a smutty book. It’s a traditional steamy romance novella. This could’ve been fade to black and you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. There’s decent build up which I appreciated. But overall this book was just meh for me.

ALC Review Narrated in duet by Lessa Lamb and Robert Hatchet Produced by High Gravity Productions
TROPES: 🎄 Small Town • 🔁 Second Chance • 👶 Single Mom • 🛷 Snowstorm • ❤️🩹 Sick Care • 🧣 Childhood Friends to Lovers • 🍁 Canadian Mountie
Cupid’s Christmas is a warm & sweet holiday novella about coming home, healing old hurts, and finding love right where you left it. Laurel returns to Coal’s Lake with a baby on her hip and a heart still learning how to carry joy again. Brennan, her childhood best friend turned local constable, sees her once and knows she is still the one he never stopped wanting. Their reunion is soft, heartfelt, and full of that “finally” energy that makes second chance romances so satisfying.
The audiobook shines. Lessa Lamb brings Laurel’s tenderness, exhaustion, and quiet hope to life with such authenticity. Robert Hatchet leans into Brennan’s steady warmth and unwavering devotion, making him the ultimate holiday green flag. In duet style, their voices play off each other beautifully, adding intimacy and charm to even the simplest scenes.
Short, sweet, quick, cozy, and perfectly spiced, Cupid’s Christmas is the kind of holiday romance that wraps you up like a soft blanket.
Thank you HighGravity productions for this gifted listening copy!
Short, sweet and spicy! Cupid’s Christmas was a fun holiday duet with great narration by Lessa Lamb and Robert Hatchet. They truly brought Laurel and Brennan’s characters to life and I loved listening!
Small town, second chance romance with friends to lovers and Hallmark movie vibes. Laurel left her hometown of Coal’s lake as a teenager- leaving behind her best friend, Brennan. Ten years later, she returns home, with her 6 month old baby boy, after leaving an unhealthy relationship. When she and Brennan reconnect, it doesn’t take long for them to realize, their feelings for each other never changed. Laurel wants a fresh start with new traditions for her son and there is no doubt, Brennan will be creating those new traditions with them.
This is one of those reads that’s just warms your heart and provides an escape from reality for a little while. The holiday season is a great time to read/listen to the books that refresh your mind and give you all the cozy feels! That makes this a perfect one for your holiday TBR!
Five stars, hands down! I just finished “Cupid’s Christmas” and honestly, this is one of those feel-good holiday romances I can see myself revisiting every single Christmas season. It’s short, sweet, and just packed with all the right vibes.
What I loved most is the second-chance storyline: childhood friends who drifted apart and then find their way back to each other as adults. It’s got that perfect mix of nostalgia and new beginnings. Plus, Kelsey Woods really nails the emotional feels:there’s romance, a little spice, and just the right sprinkle of Christmas magic.
Also, I have a soft spot for a hero who steps up as a father figure, and this one delivers. It’s so refreshing to see a male lead who’s man enough to care for a kid that’s not his. And the main female character’s journey as a single mom trying to rebuild her life felt so real and humbling.
Bottom line: if you need a cozy, emotional, and quick read to get you in the holiday spirit, this is it. It’s a little gem I’ll be pulling off the shelf every December
It’s been 10 years since Laurel left Coal’s Lake and everything behind, including her best friend Brennan. Now after leaving her ex, she is back and as a single mother. When she and Brennan finally cross paths again, it’s as if nothing has changed between them. Their connection is still as strong as ever and Brennan is ready to do whatever it takes so that Laurel doesn’t slip through his fingers again.
If you are looking for a cozy, short and sweet Christmas read, then I can’t recommend Cupid’s Christmas enough. The way Brennan stepped up had me absolutely swooning. There is just something about a guy taking care of a sick mom and their child that is so sexy.
Cupid’s Christmas is narrated in duet by Rob Hatchet and Lessa Lamb. Rob did a wonderful job bringing Brennan and all of his kindness to life. Lessa captured Laurel’s struggles as a single mother so well. Their voices complemented each other so well, making this a fun and easy story to listen and enjoy.
Cupid's Christmas By Kelsey Woods Narrated by Lessa Lamb, Robert Hatchet
Short and sweet, this listen is all that I love about romance and Christmas. Laurel has come home with her baby to get away from her dead beat boyfriend. She needs to start over, but when her old flame runs into her all those feelings come back. Brennan is happy to see her and when he kisses her, it's like time never left. But she holds a secret that be the end before they even have the chance to begin. A true Christmas love story, this one holds all the love and happiness.
Lessa Lamb and Robert Hatchet tell this story with all the feels. I love both of these narrators and they know how to bring their character alive. Each having obstacles to overcome, the two find their way to happiness with an inflection and a nuance. Loved it!
I found this wonderful new author (Kelsey Woods) by doing a Secret Santa book party from the site call Abbie's Dangerously Dark Darlings on Facebook. The author (Kelsey Woods) is a new author to me. The book call (Cupid's Christmas : A Single Mom Second Chance ) If you love romance then you will love this book . It was very well written and had wonderful characters. Once I started to read the book from the first page I was hooked and wanted to know what happens next to the characters. I can't wait to read more books from this wonderful author. I definitely would recommend this book to everyone. To learn more about this author (Kelsey Woods) please check out her Newsletter and you can find her on Facebook.
I think this might be a newer author? Not sure but I thought the writing was really good. The story was okay, decent. It just wasn’t that interesting to me. But I thought it was sweet and I related to the mom a lot.
I liked the mmc. He was so sweet and dedicated to the fmc. I really thought we’d have more backstory on them? The author implies that they have history and that the fmc leaving really hurt him? They sort of had a previous thing but we don’t really get the details on it. It’s sort of glossed over.
I also thought we might get some drama from the baby daddy which would have added something to the story but that didn’t happen either.
Good writing. Just overall not for me, not memorable.
Lessa Lamb and Rob Hatchet deliver such a heartfelt performance in this cozy, second-chance holiday novella. Lo and Bren already have that tender childhood-friends-to-more chemistry on the page, but hearing it brought to life makes it even sweeter.
Lessa Lamb gives Lo a warm, resilient voice that fits her perfectly as a mom finding her footing again in Coal’s Lake. Rob Hatchet captures Bren’s steady, loyal, quietly-hoping heart so well—you can feel exactly why he’s the guy who never stopped caring.
Together, this duet makes the rekindled spark feel genuine, nostalgic, and full of holiday comfort. It’s a quick listen packed with small-town charm, soft emotions, and the magic of rediscovering the one who got away. A perfect seasonal audiobook to cozy up with.
Thank you High Gravity Productions & Kelsey Woods for this ALC of Cupid's Christmas 🎄

The duet narration was absolutely extraordinary. Lessa Lamb was brilliant as sweet, beautiful Lauren. Robert Hatchet was delightful as lovable, besotted Brennan. 📌 Perfect for readers who love: - Best friends to lovers - Single mom - Second chance - Small town romance
This is a super quick novella that has Hallmark movie energy with open door spice. I'm here for it.
Laurel is fresh out of a bad relationship and is back in her home town as a single mom. Brennan has never forgotten the girl that he went to school with back when they were kids. Brennan shows up when Laurel needs a hand and they both immediately have all the feels.
I needed something cute after having listened to a heavier audiobook the other day and this just brightened everything back up for me.
This is a really cute christmas novella. Second chance romance They were close as kids as close as they could be. Then, she moved, and now she's moved back as a single mom. And he goes heck, yeah, I'm all over this. You're mine now. Only he does it in a really sweet way. Not super possessive. Just kind of slides in going? Oh, by the way, I can help you with this. And I can help you with that. And it's just super cute the way he finally gets. It's what he's always wanted, and that's her. And he gets a bonus with a baby And apparently he's super onboard with being a stepdad.
This was a cute, Hallmark-esque novella. I didn't read the back, so part of me expected this to include something about Cupid (IE Valentine's Day Cupid and some sort of crossover holiday romance)... but that's on me and has no effect to my rating. This is a second chance romance that seems like everything just falls into place perfectly for our MMC and FMC to fall back together (see, Hallmark! haha). I enjoyed it as a quick morning listen at work, but I doubt I would revisit it.
Thank you to High Gravity Productions and Kelsey Woods for the ALC. All thoughts are my own.
🎧 Lessa Lamb nailed the tiredness of a mother in my ears. Felt it. In my core. Not to mention there is a familiarity in her voice that feels like comfort food and goes so well with a Christmas romance.
🎧 The previous couple of books I have listened from Mr. Hatchet were either secondary characters or darkish ones. It's my first MMC rom com, and because I don't want to embarrass myself, I will leave it at 'I giggled' when his lines would come up on her POV.
🎧 The story did manage to satisfy my romance craving. Short yes, but it was what I wanted.
