One cottage
One bed
And one nativity in crisis

Penny Hastings should be walking down the aisle, instead she’s walking away. Taking her ‘romantic’ pre-wedding break in countryside with her cat instead of her fiancé. Desperate to recover from a broken heart, all she wants is a merry Christmas.

But when she arrives, she soon discovers that the idyllic country cottage, is already occupied by the infuriatingly handsome son of the local reverend. With nowhere to go, Penny’s Christmas plans suddenly turn upside down.

Gabriel Harris makes the pilgrimage home every year to fulfil his role in the church nativity. But with bitter memories hanging over him, wallowing alone is his favourite past time. Until a newly single stranger and her cat land on his doorstep, throwing his routine into disarray.

When the nativity is threatened, Gabriel must find a new Mary, and fast. And there’s only one person for the job…
As Penny and Gabriel grow closer, their pasts and presents threaten to collide, propelling their unconventional Christmas arrangement into turmoil.

Thrown together at the most romantic time of the year, a straightforward happily ever after is surely inevitable.

But when you’re away with a stranger, things are never that simple.

Away with a Stranger is a dual first person POV, open door romance, featuring a grumpy MMC, a cheeky cat and a festive HEA.

Away with a Stranger is a cute cozy little Christmas story. It felt like a Hallmark movie but make it spicy so I was all in! It had some of my favourite ingredients:

✅Grumpy MMC
✅Shared bed trope
✅Small town
✅Adorable cat
✅Open door sexy times
All at Christmas!!

The story moved at a nice pace and good character development. There were parts where I literally laughed out loud! I liked the main characters, Penny and Gabriel, but let’s be honest - the star of this story is Billy the cat 😂 What a little wingman 😉

If you’re looking for a cute cozy Christmas story, I would totally recommend Away with a Stranger!

📌 You’ll dig this if you like:
» Grumpy x Sunshine
» Only one bed
» He falls first
» Strangers to lovers

Penny packs up her cat and takes her pre-wedding mini vacay after arriving home to find her fiancé and best friend together, the locks to her flat changed. Gabriel is home for Christmas and staying in his refuge, Mistletoe Cottage. Penny shows up and tips his world off its solitary axis.

I took off half a star because it’s problematic that Gabriel’s parents left Penny alone to sleep in a cottage that she (well, her ex) paid for, with a man she doesn’t know.

This was an enjoyable, quick read with good banter and great dirty talk. A fun way to kick off your holiday reads.

📌What stood out
» Gabriel’s dirty thoughts and talk *fans self*
» Billy headbutting his way into Gabriel’s heart.

📌Moments/Quotes
» Gabriel’s mic-drop moment when Henry shows up to “rescue” Penny.
» That rocking chair! 🔥
» "As I angle up at Gabriel, flashbacks of his body moving against mine ripple through my consciousness. Deep, hard, sinful thrusts... that had no business being administered by the son of a reverend."

📌 Thank you to Louise Hudson for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Rating: ★★★★.5 - A Festive Delight

Away with a Stranger offers a delightful way to kick off the Christmas season. This fast-paced novella immediately puts readers in the festive spirit, making it a perfect choice for a heartwarming and quick read.

The story revolves around the charming characters of Penny and Gabriel, who, in classic “grumpy sunshine” style, steal the show with their delightful banter. Their chemistry is palpable, and readers will find it easy to root for this endearing couple.

It’s impossible to overlook the true star of the story: Billy the cat, who adds an extra layer of charm and humor to the story! I mean who doesn’t love an animal sidekick!

If you’re a fan of holiday romance, this novella is a must-read, and it might just make you wish for a full Penny & Gabriel book.

This was such a perfect short story to start out the holiday season. I loved the read. I think it takes a very talented author to write a short story. It had the perfect balance of character development and gives you one heck of a love story during the holidays. I felt this book was very put together and flowed wonderfully. The bonus is Billy the cat who you absolutely love. If you are looking for a good short read this is your read

Yes I'm biased as I beta read for Louise but I also kinda hate Christmas. So this was great for this Christmas Grinch.
Beautiful little story. It's fast paced and set over a few days so moves quickly.
Penny is lovable. Gabriel was grumpy but likeable too, he is grumpy and dry. But so funny. I love his one liners and inner thoughts. Billy is amazing. Grumpy little old man. Saying that, there was laugh out moments, gasp out loud moments but also lots of emotion.
Everything was there. Humour, tension, emotion and the spice was spicy.
All in all a perfect Xmas read.

Oh this was a cute little read. When it comes to loving books? You got me. Give me grumpy x sunshine? I'm in. One bed....for many days together? Burning passionate hatred to intense hot love? Do you even need to ask me if I need it? Ofcourse I do! And that's when louis hudson came nevering like she never nevered before. Gabriel and Penny have my whole heart, their cute frustrations with each other, banters on small little thing as leaving the bathroom window open to the little cute thing, called Billy. Billt the adorable cat. He stole the show, no cap. My Billy was the main hero of the whole book and his little headbutts and tapping his paws against Gabriel's chest to convey the message of how he loves them both and approves of their relationship, lmao, and wants him to fight for her and for her to fight for him? He's the little bundle of support partner you need in life. The book had the right mix of love, romance, fights, drama, humour, emotions, different types of exes etc. It makes your heart beat a little faster at all the right places, makes you wake up at nights to read, makes you want to lay your heart down on a silver platter to make sure it is still beating. It will make you laugh out loud in many several areas where you just feel the NEED to text the author and vent out because your heart is going crazy just like Penny's does when she sees Gabriel.

The initial phase of the two was so absolutely cute, him hating cats and she loving the cat to death. And while Gabriel would try to put the cat as far away as possible? The little guy would literally sashay his way into their lives, on their couches and on his chest, hitting his little paw against his chest, reminding him as to who is the main boss here. The pace of the story was very well managed, professionally done, each and every point was addressed and handled carefully. The writing, above all, was too beautiful. Seeing two opposites live forcefully together and share a bed and cat which one hates was absolutely adorable and satisfying.

——————🖤💞🖤💞🖤

‘And how do you feel?’

‘That I don’t want to be alone at Christmas anymore, or at all for that matter. And I don’t know the logistics of this’ – he flicks his finger back and forth between us and takes my chin between his thumb and his forefinger – ‘but I’m willing to take a chance, in the hope that this time next Christmas, I wake up with you in my arms.’

——

‘I never want to let you go, Pen.’

‘Then don’t.’ I smile.

——

‘And I love you, Penny Hastings.’

——

“You’re perfect,”

Louise Hudson's "Away with a Stranger" is a delightful and heartwarming tale that turns the traditional holiday romance on its head. This charming novella whisks readers away to the idyllic countryside, where a broken-hearted bride-to-be, Penny Hastings, embarks on a pre-wedding getaway with her feline companion. Little does she know that her romantic escape will turn into a hilarious and heart-touching adventure filled with unexpected twists.

The story first introduces us to Penny, a woman who should be preparing for her wedding but is instead nursing a shattered heart. Her decision to seek solace in a picturesque cottage seems like the perfect remedy for her woes. However, fate has other plans, as she arrives to discover that the charming cottage she's rented is already occupied by none other than Gabriel Harris, the son of the local reverend.

Hudson masterfully crafts a tale of two strangers thrust into an unusual, yet endearing situation. Penny and Gabriel are like oil and water at first, their personalities clashing as they navigate the shared living space. The banter between them is witty and engaging, setting the stage for an intriguing dynamic.

But what truly sets "Away with a Stranger" apart is the impending church nativity play. Gabriel, with his own emotional baggage and past regrets, is no stranger to the annual tradition. When the nativity is in jeopardy, Penny inadvertently finds herself in a situation she could never have foreseen – stepping into the role of Mary. This twist of fate brings them closer together and adds a layer of sweet, heartwarming charm to the story.

Hudson beautifully captures the essence of the holiday season, filling the pages with festive cheer and a palpable sense of Christmas magic. Readers will be enchanted by the Christmas decorations, the cozy cottage, and the village's warm community. Penny's cheeky cat adds an extra dose of humor and charm, making every page a delight to read.

As Penny and Gabriel grow closer, their individual pasts and presents collide in unexpected and heartwarming ways, leading to a romance that is as unconventional as it is touching. The dual first-person point of view provides a deeper insight into the minds and emotions of both characters, allowing readers to connect with them on a profound level.

One cottage,One bed 🛌, one rocking chair and 2 exes.

Penny Hastings should be walking down the aisle, instead she’s walking away with her cat. She is going to cash in on her romantic pre-wedding break in countryside. But when she arrives at the country cottage it is occupied, by Gabriel Harris who want nothing to do with Penny or her feline friend.

This is a great holiday novella to get you in the mood. Think Hallmark movies sprinkled with a little bit of spice 🌶. Its a quick enemies to lovers grumpy MMC and a broken hearted FMC. Both Penny and Gabriel make you feel all the holiday spirit but the one who steals the show is Billy. This book gives you the small town community feels and it throws in a one bed cottage to boost.

Thanks you to Louise Hudson for the ARC.

I’ll be honest and say that I don’t normally enjoy novella’s but this one certainly won me over.
It had the perfect mix of humour, plot and red hot spice (I will never look at a rocking chair the same way ever again haha.)
I was rooting for both Gabriel and Penny as their instant chemistry and banter made for great reading and luckily their miscommunication wasn’t drawn out to any great lengths.
Also an honourable mention must go out to Billy the cat, who got to bear witness all of Gabriel’s and Pen’s antics and knew just when each one of them needed him.

A great spicy, little Christmas read that hit the festive spot!

Overall quite a wholesome story.

The plot seemed a bit rushed and I would have loved the climax to have been longer (not their climax😂) the climax of the story.

I liked the characters they were nicely described and I love a dual pov. And the cat omg I loved how big a part the cat played in the story.

What do you do when something disastrous happens? You turn the situation around and make the best of it. These two, Penny and Gabe, were total opposites but despite that Penny was what Gabe needed and Gabe was what Penny needed. This truly was a cute book with a scene I will never forget.

Gabriel was grumpy and closed off and due to past hurt he was happy to spend his Christmas alone. Until Penny literally fell on his doorstep with her cat and they’re forced to stay together. I loved the instant banter, arguing and tension between these two, and how it progressed into something more.

They both helped distract each other from their realities and then ultimately heal together. Highly recommend reading this sweet and cozy Christmas read

A cozy little quick read. Festive enough for the holidays. One bed trope is always a plus but there’s also so many more things to love about this book. There’s a crazy cat 😂 and even crazier exes, a small town, a sinful rocking chair, and a cottage to share between strangers. Finding love after a failed relationship on both ends is always the best. There was plot and some spice to it. HEA. Definitely recommend as a holiday read.

Thank you to Louise for an advance copy. My review is honest.

This was my first festive read this year and it was a very sweet one to start. I read it in a few hours and adored it.

Being a novella, things went from 0-60 very fast and it was definitely very cheesy. I wanted more from the characters but accept that it’s a shorter novel. The spicy was 👌🏻🥵! Came out of nowhere without as much tension as I would have liked but nonetheless, the scenes were written really well.

This book is full of miscommunication. For me, just a bit too much. I wanted to bang the characters heads together so much!

Overall a cute little Christmassy read, perfect to start the festive season off!

Oh, sweethearts, I've got a delightful Christmas treat for you today! "Away with a Stranger" by Louise Hudson is the kind of story that warms your heart like a mug of hot cocoa by the fireplace. 😌🎄

Picture this: Penny, our lovely leading lady, should be strutting down the aisle in a bridal gown, but instead, she's high-tailing it out to the countryside with her feline friend. Now that's what I call a romantic pre-wedding getaway! A little R&R for the soul.

But there's a twist! Her Christmas cottage getaway turns into an episode of 'Cottage Crashers' because it's already occupied by the infuriatingly handsome Gabriel Harris. And the icing on the fruitcake? He's the reverend's son, no less!

Oh, but what's Christmas without a touch of chaos? 🎅

Gabriel's got his own little black raincloud that follows him around, but Penny and her feline companion make for a surprise and slightly unconventional addition to the nativity scene. I mean, nothing says "merry Christmas" like a broken-hearted bride-to-be and her cat, right?

As they prepare for the nativity, there's an undeniable spark between Penny and Gabriel. The Christmas magic is palpable, and their romance is as sweet as a candy cane. 🍬

The story might be a tad predictable, but it's like a classic holiday movie you watch every year - you know what's going to happen, but you love it all the same. And those two nieces? Bless their little hearts; they added an uncanny twist to the mix, more like children of the corn than mischievous little elves.

If you're looking for a heartwarming, easy-breezy Christmas read that'll make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, "Away with a Stranger" is the one. It's the perfect start to the festive season and definitely deserving of a full 5-star rating. Cheers to yuletide love and holiday cheer! 🌟🎁

Christmas is less then 2 months away and Away with a Stranger by Louise Hudson felt like the perfect cozy read that I needed. 🎅 This book will be out on November 9th.

Penny was supposed to get married on Christmas day but two months before Christmas her fiancé breaks off their relationship.
Not wanting to lose her Christmas spirit she takes a trip to a small town which was supposed to be their pre wedding mini break taking her cat, Billy with her.
When she arrives what she doesn't expect is for the cottage to be already occupied by the son of the owner. Not wanting to go back home and desperately needing of this break she has to share the cottage with this stranger named Gabriel Harris.
Gabriel comes home every year to be a part of the nativity in their church where his father is a reverend.
Penny and Gabriel's first few interaction aren't really friendly. While their attraction towards each other is undeniable Gabriel too has his fair share of heart ache making him want to stay away from women.
Read to find out what this short story has on hold for our sweet FMC Penny and the grumpy handsome MMC Gabriel. 💕

🎄 This is an open door romance, a Christmas novella which also felt like a cozy hallmark movie that I love watching every year around Christmas. And there's the cutest cat who shows his approval of someone with a headbutt. I absolutely adored this cute story. 🎄

Penny and Gabriel are thrown together for the holidays (literally) . Having no choice to be living in close proximity, I expected sparks to fly and I was not disappointed. The characters are easy to like especially the cat Billy who is a character in his own right and has the personality to go with it. I laughed out loud and rejoiced in every minute of the story and I became more and more immersed as it progressed . The grumpy sunshine aspect had me smiling from ear to ear and the little touches of Christmas make it a great read for anytime of the year. I loved everything about the book except the cover design just didn't make me want to take interest but the important thing which is the story was fun and flirty perfect. It's a quick read and fast paced and I really appreciate the writing style.

First off, let me start out by saying how much I love this title!

Now for the review portion of the book…

This was a cute and funny Christmas Novella, but it also had some good spice in it. Penny, the jilted bride, is such a sweet and loveable character. Gabriel was grumpy and brooding yet still likable. Then there was the cat Billy, who was great. What I really enjoyed was that you could just feel the emotions coming off the pages while reading. If you’re looking for a cute holiday read with some spice then I would recommend reading this one.

"he might be named after an angel, but he fucks like the devil"

Poor Penny is going through it; we've all been there! But she's just trying to live her best life... and boy does she👀

Gabriel. What a man. Fictional men ruin men for me.

Billy is the best character obvs. No arguing allowed.

Perfect balance of Christmas, romance (with no ick YAY) spice and just joy!

Oh did I mention there's only one bed....

It's the perfect book to curl up in your rocking chair with and read!
