Lilah James

I swore off all relationships after the one guy I thought was my forever decided I was no longer as important as scoring his next high. It wasn’t until I was at a party at the Hockey House that the man of my dreams swept me off my Phoenix Dumbrowski. I thought everything was going great—I was finally going to get my happily ever after…until my past came back to haunt me. When Micha shows up and threatens my friends, I can’t help but run away to keep them safe. After being gone for over a year and missing too many important moments, I decide it’s time to come home, take back my life, and fight for my man. I just hope it’s not too late for us.

Nix Dumbrowski

Being from a small town and having parents who have an ever-lasting love, I knew that was exactly what I wanted; so when Lilah James came into my life, I thought I had it my friends, my career, and most importantly my girl. Until she left me and took my sunshine away. Now she’s back, and I don’t know how to feel. When she left, she broke me. How do I trust she won’t do that to me again? Ignoring her is getting harder and harder, and when our friends decide to meddle and leave us alone at the cabin for a night, ignoring her is no longer an option. But she's clearly hiding something from me, and if she doesn't trust me enough to open up, I don't see a future for us.

After all this time will Nix and Lilah finally get their happily ever after together or will secrets and a stalker cause them to break away?

I don’t know why I waited so long to start a book in this series but I am kicking myself for it!! I was given this book as an ARC and OH MY GOODNESS TD LUA YOU CAN WRITE YOURSELF A BOOK GIRL!! Having not read the first two in the series, I was nervous I wouldn’t understand anything or the characters, but I had no problems at all. I will definitely be going back to read the first two books!

This book was so freakin good and left me wanting more and more. I honestly couldn’t put it down. I was rooting for Lilah and Nix so badly. I could tell the love the two of them shared was end game. I loved Lilah’s character and how freakin’ strong of a woman she was. The decisions she had to make were so difficult, but she did them to protect those most important to her. Nix was…well he is everything. The way he fiercely loved and cared for Lilah and would do anything to protect her was everything you could hope for in a book boyfriend. Also, his mouth was 🥵🥵 the secret tattoos these two got were the chef’s kiss.

This was unlike any hockey romance I’ve read this year and probably is one of my favorites. I cannot wait to read the first two books before the next comes out in 2024!! Thank you for the ARC! 🫶🏽

Tropes:

This is the 3rd book in TD Lua’s Ballad University Series. I think this book moves Scoring Chance from my top spot in this series. I was seriously blown away with this story and could not put it down.

This story follows Phoenix and Lilah. They meet during college, and the sexual chemistry was undeniable. Having been hurt in the past, Li was set against relationships. But one night with Nix changed her mind a little. Fast forward to the night of her graduation, Li's past comes back to haunt her in the shape of her ex-boyfriend Micah. He threatens her and everyone she loves, so she ends up running and leaving everything behind. A year and a half later, she decides to come back. All her friends who are like family don’t understand why she left but when it is all revealed they understand and help her in any way they can.

I have been waiting for this story since reading Freezing the Puck and I did not expect it to be this! But I was pleasantly surprised with how their story unfolded. I love that TD added a suspense element. I have been slowly entering a romantic suspense era and this one fit perfectly. I really liked how this one did not take place in college either, makes me really excited for what’s to come from TD.
I am absolutely feral for Nix. When she came back and he had those internal struggle with his feelings with still waiting to be there and protect her….my heart!!! He loves her so fiercely and I have here for it. And their tattoos!!!!! AHHHH! I loved that touch, as it showed how much they truly meant to each other.

Thank you to TD and team for eARC. Can’t wait to see what is next.

Lilah and phoenix (nix)

I thought i was going to really like this book! It was good don’t get me wrong but —- miscommunication again!! If they had just talked they could have saved eachother a lot of heart ache! But anywho…. Lilah was trying to “save” nix and all the people she cared about when her ex boyfriend threatened to hurt/kill them if she didn’t want to be with him anymore or for her to just leave and never come back… she did she left for a year and a half and didn’t tell anyone where she went or why….

Lilahs friends are getting engaged and she decides she she’s been away for long enough and will figure out a way to keep everyone safe.. she comes back and nix doesn’t want anything to do with her even though he still loves her.. but she up and left and he’s heart broken…

They get stuck together in a cabin that their friends set up and get to talk and find out what really happened back then and all is forgiven and they fall back into their live together … it was very instalove instaforgive i mean that’s fine but I’d she had just talked to him or her friends about what happens none of this would have happened! Otherwise their love and chemistry for eachother was off the charts and i really did like the story

I have been dyinggggg for Lilah & Nix’s story since we were first introduced to them in book 1. You could tell even then that their connection was so special. Their story was everything I wanted for them & more!

This book starts out with us getting to see them first getting together in college & we learn why Lilah has always been one foot in, one foot out in her relationship with Nix. She’s been running from her past but it catches up with her evntually, forcing her to leave Nix & her friends behind without an explanation. Fast forward a couple of years & Lilah is back in town & determined to fix all the relationships she broke when she left town. But will Nix forgive the one girl who crushed his heart?

This author is new to me and I honestly was pleasantly surprised. While the book does start off slow and the writing initially seemed a bit weird for the first couple of chapters—which served as context for the story—afterwards the author seemed to find her groove and I think it got better. It was difficult to connect with the characters for those first couple of chapters but just hang on.

My only problem with this story resides with the OW drama and the hero but bear with me first for this run down. But if you want a condensed version of tropes and such just skip to the bottom of the review.

The basic storyline surrounds Lilah and her ex boyfriend who becomes more and more obsessive with her, especially after her leaving him. It begins with typical text messages before escalating to threatening messages where she is forced to skip town because he begins to threaten her friends and her new boyfriend—the hero. Because she doesn't want to put them in any danger she keeps as much under wraps as she can, only leaving a brief explanation to her best friend. Fast forward about 1 1/2 years later she eventually comes back to her same friend group, a new girl who during her absence seemed to have seamlessly inserted herself into Lilah's old spot with her friends and ex boyfriend (the OW in who I have a lot to say about), and an ex who seems to want nothing to do with her anymore. But during that year and a half she did keep in contact with her girls who always tried to have her back.

Lilah James (h) is the heroine of the story and she was a bit different from other heroines I have read. In the beginning of the story she is clearly an independent girl and a bit standoffish when it came to relationships and commitment but she didn't give me those "in your face badass" type of heroines who are like this. Instead she was a very sweet girl and throughout the story we see her come out of her shell.

Nix Dumbroski (H) is the hero and ohhhh my. This man is an absolute sweetheart but holy shit he was so fucking blind and stupid, and at times irritated me. From the beginning of the story, Nix has had his eye on Lilah for years before they finally get together and his love for her is so so clear it was adorable. Like this man was ready to propose to her that he had a ring kept in the safe of his bedroom.

HOWEVER, after Lilah left, he hired a PA who becomes the OW of the story (Eva). Like I don't know if he is just dense or something but it was VERY clear that this girl was into him and HE FED INTO IT without what he thought was "harmless flirting" which he admitted they did a lot of. Like their closeness with each other was noticeable enough to the point where everyone thought they were dating...ew. He talks about Eva like she is his best friend and he calls her his confidant because when Lilah was away he would vent to Eva about this "she-devil" which is this bitch's nickname for Lilah. While I understand that she would be naturally biased towards Nix this girl was just plain disrespectful and rude.

And what pissed me off the most about Nix was how overly friendly he would be with Eva.

And while I know he wasn't with Lilah at the time, this bitch was so openly disrespectful towards Lilah even after explaining that he was back with her—for reasons that weren't none of her business—that I can't even believe that he let her stay as his PA until the end of the book albeit in the epilogue it does say that their friendship grew apart. He does admit though that while he knew that Lilah thought that Eva and him were a thing that he played into it, it still doesn't negate the fact that they actually acted like this and were comfortable enough with each other to be acting like this.

I WILL SAY THOUGH, take out the fact that the hero is somewhat of a dumb bitch, you can tell how gone he is for Lilah and how she was always his one and he never thought of another girl or wanted another girl while she was gone. Because of this, I thought this was a good read and he semi saved it with how in love he was with Lilah though it would've been so much better had he just cut ties with the OW entirely...

some tropes:
➣ he falls first
➣ second chance
➣ mental health representation
➣ ow drama

I love the Ballad University series, but T.D. Lua absolutely blew me away with Breakaway! I couldn't put this read down and will definitely be a reread for me.

If you Love:
- hockey romance
- second chance
- forced proximity
- "it’s always been you"
- romantic suspense
- fancy peen
- mental health rep
- breath play

In Breakaway we meet Phoenix (Nix) & Lilah (Li) who's relationship began as a no strings attached college romance due to Li's past. She's totally against dating, but after what was supposed to be only one night together, their chemistry and tension were undeniable & the two were quickly inseparable. They seemed to have life planned and their future together looked like the fairytale hockey romances we read about, that is until Phoenix's college graduation. Lilah's ex returns and it's obvious he's struggling with his mental health. He's been stalking Lilah and those she's close with, threatening to hurt everyone she loves, especially Phoenix, if she doesn't leave town and never return. If he can't have her and be happy, he wants her to suffer too. Leaving Nix without a word and moving across the world, he's left heartbroken and bitter.

The friend group is extremely close in this series and the side characters help make these book even better. Never telling anyone why she abruptly left and losing most contact with everyone over the past year and a half, Lilah decides to quit running & move her life and career back home. (Insert the workplace romance...) Lilah takes a position within the Hockey teams offices and Phoenix isn't happy about the revelation.

Nix struggles with what his heart truly wants and how hurt he still is by her abrupt departure. The book quickly becomes and enemies to lovers romance once she's back in the group dynamic as her best friends are all married to or dating his teammates/best friends. Without knowing why she left to begin with, Nix is angry and heartbroken, though internally he still wants to protect her and loves her fiercely. Thankfully Lilah's headstrong and determined to repair their relationship and to remind him of everything they once were.

It's a slow burn with lots of angst and tension until the two rekindle their romance when they're snowed in alone together, on what was supposed to be a friends vacation. I screamed - Their chemistry is explosive and I needed her to finally be able to tell him why she had to leave. When they finally communicate, their love is beautiful to watch unfold.

Lilah's so strong and independent and truly a sweet girl. She's determined to protect her friends to her own detriment, giving up everything and everyone she loved, to protect them, only to look like the 'bad guy'.

Nix is truly a sweetheart and loved Lilah years before they ever dated. Once she returned, he caused a lot of his own troubles, not being willing to listen to her as well as openly flirting with his personal assistant (men are so stupid sometimes). He definitely redeems himself and it's obvious how in love with her his is and that he only ever had eyes for Li!

Things I can't stop thinking about:
-Nix's mouth.... that man and his dirty talk (whew)
-Their secret tattoos
-When he calls her "Sunshine"
-The scene in her office and the phone call

I love romantic suspense and this one did not disappoint! I can't wait for what's to come from T.D. Lua with Ballad University: Next Season!
Breakaway is book 3 in the Ballad University Series and can be read as a standalone, but after reading this one, I know you'll want to read the first two immediately, because this hockey team/friend group are such an incredible reads!

“Let me tell ya, Nix the hockey player is hot, but Nix the cowboy melts my panties right off.”

Book: Breakaway (Ballad U book 3)
Author: TD Lua
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Lilah and Phoenix didn’t have the most traditional start to their relationship in college but it was everything they could have wanted and more. As their relationship developed, the two of them grew inseparable, but Lilah still held on to one big secret. And when that secret comes back to haunt her, everything has to change.

A year after running away, Lila decides to face her fears and return home. The only problem is, she’s not sure if there’s a home to return to. When she ran away after college, she left behind a completely devastated Nix. One who wasn’t sure if he could ever move past the girl who disappeared. And now that she’s back, will they be able to move forward, or will this continue to haunt them forever?

The books in this series just continue to get better! I didn’t think I could love anyone more than Chiral, but then TD Lua goes on and writes Phoenix Dumbrowski! A hockey playing, southern accent having, cowboy! Who knows his way around a bedroom! Good God😮‍💨 And seeing Lilah as our FMC was so enthralling. She’s strong, brave, kind, and so relatable.

The plot line to this story was both romantic and also kind of a thriller, which I’m not traditionally used to, but really enjoyed! The way the two of them found their way back to each other after what they’d been through was such a beautiful story. I was rooting for them the entire time while sitting on the edge of my seat. This book is swoony, spicy, and suspenseful!

Thank you to TD Lua and her team for this ARC and for this amazing book and series. You continue to knock it out of the park every time and I can’t wait to see what’s next🤍

4.5⭐️

I loved this book. It’s my favorite one in the series.

This is about Phoenix & Lilah.

These two were never supposed to happen…

She has a crazy ex that won’t leave her alone. She doesn’t want to drag anymore people into her drama so she didn’t want a relationship..

The only person that knows about her ex is her best friend Chiral and his dad Theo.

Well when she gets a text at a party and Phoenix notices her looking sad he speaks up and things get a little hot🥵

They don’t have a label but it’s been a year and a half so they are basically together. Phoenix has no idea about her ex or what he is doing…

After her ex shows up and threatens Phoenix she leaves him and everyone behind and only left a letter with no explanation…

Time goes by…..

She comes home and Phoenix is not the same guy he was before she left…

He has been completely heartbroken and in pain. To help with the pain he is now covered in tattoos and also got his 🍆 pierced!

Everyone is mad at her but after she explains everything they understand and wished that she would have told them what was going on.

Phoenix doesn’t want to talk to her about it yet but when they are the only two that end up showing up to their friend thanksgiving cabin getaway trip he can’t resist anymore and she tells him everything…

Just like everyone else he wishes she would have told him what was going on. They end up back together but things get hectic…

He will do anything to protect his girl…

I love how hard Phoenix loves her.
I love how sweet he is.
I love his mouth😮‍💨
I love his nickname for her.

I had a feeling Lilah and Nix’s book would be my favorite, and I was right! There is something about a second chance that makes my heart so happy. I love this series so much. It was so easy to be invested in the lives of these characters! I loved watching them all grow and change. The first two took place kind of at the same time, and then this one took place after a little time jump, and I loved it. And it made perfect sense for Lilah and Nix.

Lilah and Nix were PERFECT together. And seeing them come back together, and face the reasons Lilah left and broke them apart together was so good. It was so complicated, Lilah’s past came back to haunt her and she did what she thought was best for Nix and her entire friend group. The mystery element was done well, it was a nice change compared to the other books!

I liked seeing Lilah face her BPD diagnosis, and going to therapy and being open with Nix and her friends about it. That was one of the biggest chances she went through when she was alone, and the fact that Nix took it in stride - did his own research, asked her questions, made sure to make her needs surrounding it a priority and normal in their lives was so sweet.

But I do want a little justice for Eva! I’m hoping maybe Tori has something planned for her in the future?!

I get SO EMOTIONAL at the end of a series. Tori wrote the PERFECT epilogue. I wasn’t expecting it either?? And it was absolutely the perfect ending to this sweet series!

Thank you so much to TD Lua for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I knew that this one was going to break me in the beginning. It was so worth it all though. This is the perfect second chance story as it showcases how sometimes the right person is there when they are supposed to, but they need time to grow into the person they were meant to be from afar. Liliah has only had eyes for Phoenix from the moment they met, he was the one. What Nix doesn’t realize it that the reason she left was because she wanted to keep him safe, but also, she needs to keep herself safe. As much as I want to tell you about their story, you really just need to read it. There is suspense, there are tears, and of course sunshine and love. What I will tell you is that you will fall in love with these two. This is a story of one person finding out who they are through help and the love of others. A person that works hard at showing those around them that they do matter and that they want to prove they won’t leave again. That broken hearts can be put together again with a little sunshine and lots of love. It is finding it in yourself to listen with your heart and protecting them with everything you can because neither or you want to be without the other one again. It is redemption and forgiveness. It is beauty and love.

A great conclusion to this series!!

Oh this book put me right in the feels and I absolutely loved it. I was anticipating their book since the end of ‘ Scoring Chance’ and so curious as to what their story is.

While they were in university, Lilah swore off relationships but she wasn’t expecting Nix. Sweet, attentive Nix that realized from their first encounter that he would take his ‘Sunshine’ anyway that he can get her. Even if she isn’t willing to put a label on them, he is confident that she feels what he does. That is until she disappears without a trace.

Lilah’s past catches up with her and in a moment of pure panic, she decides to leave to protect those she loves the most. About a year later, she returns and she is ready to fight for what is hers.

We get to see a whole different side of Nix at this point. The man who lost the love of his life and is struggling when she shows back up.

This read was honest, sweet and hard in the moment that it needs to be. I love that honest conversations that they have and the way that they find their way back to each other.

I loved the element of romantic suspense that was put in here with her ex boyfriend and this was definitely a different read then the first two and I absolutely loved it.

I will never get over this book! I will forever carry this one with me! This book gave me all the feels and emotions! I was balling! Balling my eyes out! I freaking loved it! This was wonderfully written and beautifully put together!

Lilah and Nix! Forever! The chemistry these two have is unreal and they just belong together! So when threats are bad and hard decisions are being made, hearts get broken. (I’m tearing up just thinking about it again 😢) Nix! It was he’s pov that really got me, because he was so hurt from her leaving, it just broke me.

Nix is a sweet southern boy, but who knew he was such a kinky guy! The dirty talk along with the breath play and spanking, 🥵😮‍💨 is it hot in here?! lol 😂 and that fancy peen?! I’m sorry that was a pleasant surprise! He is so sweet and does these little things that make Li smile and I just love it.

Li, the poor girl, had to make a decision on the fly and deal with it while she watches everyone be happy without her. She’s dealing with trauma and mental trauma that she’s trying to cope with. She’s stronger than she knows and she quickly realizes she just needs the support of her friends and of course Nix.

TD Lua, what an amazing story! And while I love Liam and Lottie and Chiral and Mar, I think Li and Nix take the cake! Also that epilogue with everyone, yes! I didn’t know I needed that and it was perfection!

Breakaway is book 3 in the Ballad U Series. I will say you that you need to at least read Scoring Chance prior to Breakaway because you meet Nix and Li there, and you can see their story in that book as well. I also feel you can understand their entire story better as they are major parts in SC!

I love Nix and Li! They are a second chance romance, and I am always here for that! Nix is drafted to the Boston Knights and Li disappears from their friend group one day without explanation. The only person who understands in Chiral (my boo). A year and a half later, Li returns and starts working for the team! Not all is great though, there is someone after Li and that will explain the entire reason of her leaving.

The friend group plans a holiday getaway but of course the only ones who show up first are Nix and Li. We know the others were “snowed in” back home 😉. The story starts and goes from there. There is no time waisted, everyone is handling it like mature adults, and I was very impressed with that. So grab Breakaway, enjoy a little hockey, a little cowboy, and a lot of friends!

Tropes:
-Second Chance
-Forced Proximity
-Spicy (Nix is a VERY giving man)🥵

You know there’s always a book that after you’re done reading you just sit there and need a minute, or hours, to get yourself back to reality?! This book is that book. Breakaway, I just don’t have words. It was a breathtaking story and I’m utterly in love with Nix and Li! I sat down with the intentions of reading half of the book and stopping, but I got about 20% in and knew I was staying till I finished their story, I just could not put it down❤️

I loved how it didn’t take place in college like the other two books. I loved how she fast forwarded to older them and had it take place as they had gotten older and had started their lives! I loved seeing Liam, Lottie and Lani and Char and Mar, and how they were just as important in this book as in the others! Their found family dynamic is absolutely incredible! I think this book, in my opinion was probably the most emotional book of the series. I was crying and laughing and sighing, and blushing throughout the book and I wouldn’t have had it any other way! I loved Liam and Lottie but Nix and Li are hands down my favorite! Like if someone asks me what my favorite book couple was of this year, Nix and Li, no doubt!

Breakaway by TD Lua | 3.5⭐️/5

This is the third book in the Ballad U series and how I wish I had read the first two books first. This follows Phoenix who is a hockey player, and Lilah who works at a marketing firm.

Phoenix has been harboring a liking towards Lilah. They started talking, then hooking up, to a very close relationship, but Lilah always kept Phoenix at arm’s length. She’s been keeping a secret from him and when her past came back barging into her quiet life, she had to leave Phoenix and her friends with no explanation.

The only downside for me was, I couldn’t connect with the characters. The story was cute, and fast-paced, and the minor characters were great too. It’s just a shame that I didn’t connect with Phoenix and Lilah.

Other than that, I still loved how in love Phoenix was with Lilah. I loved that he gave her a chance to explain, and that he stood up for her. I loved that Lilah got the help she needed. I enjoyed reading the found family dynamics between the main characters and their friends. The epilogue was a cute ending. ❤️

This one had me crying by chapter 2.
When I was reading the other books in the series I had a feeling this one was going to hurt. In the other books Nix and Lilah are together so you just know for them to have their own book something has so blow up and make them breakup.

Lilah and Nix are soulmates. They compliment each other in every single way possible and their love was picture perfect. In the other books there was always the hint of why Lilah wouldn’t officially say nix was her boyfriend and she wouldn’t say I love you. But nix always said he knew she would come around and he was fine with it. We finally find out Lilah has a crazy ex that eventually threatens everyone and drives her out of town. When Lilah comes back she has a lot of explaining to do and nix has a huge whole in his heart to repair. This hurt at some parts to read because we know if only she could have been honest they could have saved each other from a lot of pain and time apart. It was worth every second of suffering for me. I love this couple. I love how it was written, love their story.

The epilogue was perfect. This was my favorite of the series and I can’t wait for more from this author!

This book would have to be my fav in this series!

Nix and Lilah have an instant connection until one day Lilah takes off without an explanation! fast forward a year and a half and Lilah is back but everything isn’t just the way it was before, all her friends who are like family don’t understand why she left but when it is all revealed they understand and help her in any way they can!

I loved how fiercely Nix loves Lilah, in not only with the everyday things but how he doesn’t judge her for her sexual preferences - breath play - HOLY HOTNESS! He loves her with everything he has and when she leaves it breaks him but when she comes back he doesn’t just welcome her back he makes her work for it but the love is still there and it doesn’t take too long to get back to who they were before but better!

I love the family that Liam, Chiral and Nix made and how close they are with each other! I loved seeing the glimpses of their lives and what they are upto!

I loved that they got their hea because it was just perfect!

4.5/5 ⭐

I devoured this book in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down! It was heartbreaking, sweet, romantic, and suspenseful all at the same time. The angst was definitely what I was in the mood for and it did not disappoint. Lilah doesn’t do relationships and we learn why when her past comes back to haunt her. It causes her to run off and live in a new city, leaving her best friends and her FWB (that she was practically dating without putting a label on it), Nix, behind. He is devastated and heartbroken and doesn’t accept her apology when she comes back a year and a half later. It hurt seeing them both hurting for each other and made me tear up a few times. Nix was the sweetest southern-boy boyfriend who was head over heels for Lilah. He would do absolutely anything for her and was there to support her challenging times. Although this was the third book in the series, it was the first book I read by TD Lua. I am so excited to go back and read the first two books to learn more about their awesome friend group!

I've waited for this book for so long, and it didn't disappoint. Li and Nix met during college, and the sexual chemistry was unstoppable... having been hurt in the past, Li was set against relationships, although she was in one with Nix, she just wouldn't put a label on things with him. On the night of her graduation, Li's past comes back to haunt her in the shape of her ex boyfriend Micah. He says unless she leaves, he's gonna harm EVERYONE she loves, without hesitation, she ups and leaves. Hurting everyone, especially Nix. After realising her mistake and seeing how much she was missing, Li decides to return but will everyone welcome her back? After explaining to her group of friends the reason for her sudden disappearance, they all forgive her, all except Nix, the friends decide to intervene in hopes they can get them to sort though their history. Does Nix give Li the opportunity to explain, will they ever be what they once where? Or has too much happened for them to move forward. Will there ever be sunshine in Nix's world again?

BEST BOOK BOYFRIEND!!

From the first book I read in this series I already knew lilah n nix its gonna be my fav and I'm not wrong!! Even tho this is a second chance romance which I caught me off guard in the epilogue of the 2nd book, this didn't dissapointed! Literally my fav book of this series! The epilogue here also the best of the best! I almost cry reading the last epilogue, how far the 3 of them has come n how their life now, I'm not ready leaving the 6 of them😭

My only missed here is what happen to li?😭 my badass girl has been throught so much I didn't even recognise her early in the book. Also whats next for eva? I feel like she deserve someone after all of this, she didn't do anything bad just a really bad luck in love. But other than that, I love this book, I love all 3 couple n all 6 of them.

Thankyou for making them winning the stanley cup with the whole full team for Ballad U, I feel so proud of that moment

First I just want to thank T.D. Lua for sending me this book and giving me an opportunity to read it!

Tropes:
Hockey Romance
Second Chance
It's always been you
Mental Health Rep

I have yet to read the first two books in this series but rest assured I will be doing that shortly! With that being said you, don't need to read these books in order, but it might be nice so you know the characters beforehand but it's definitely not needed.

Nix's love for Lilah was unmatched, he loved and cared for her fiercely. Perfect book boyfriend, willing to do anything to protect his woman. Lilah's character was so strong; the decisions she had to make were difficult but she made them to protect those she loved. The love these two shared for each other shone bright on each page.

This was a different type of hockey romance, more of a suspense sports romance, one I've never read before. But man was I hooked! I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

This book made my heart shatter, and throughout the chapters it was like trying to stick it back together with blutac.. it wouldn’t quite work as I was constantly sat on edge waiting for the villain.. Until that ending! And my heart was bursting 🫶🏼 TD this was phenomenal!

This is my first read of TDs & you bet your ass I will be going back and reading the others because this book 🫠. Breakaway can be read as standalone, I found it easy to jump into this story and make sense of the other relationships. I highly recommend, this was a stunning example of forgiveness and redemption.

I was rooting for these two from the start. The Sunshine & her storm cloud 🫶🏼 Lilah wasnt looking for anything serious after the ex she has but Phoenix wanted nothing but her. Their love felt real and was beautiful, even though she refused to label it, I adored them together. Lilahs character was a force. When faced with a difficult decision to protect those she loved I felt every emotion, the fear, the pain, the sorrow, the heartbreak & love. She stood strong and selfless throughout, even when she was breaking. I admired her so much. Phoenix, welcome to my list of book boyfriends fella. You! Phew, Phoenix was Hot! This guy loved Lilah with every part of his soul. Fiercely protective when he could be. Patient. Supportive. And his mouth. Hot damn. He made me blush.. the hand necklaces 🥵😮‍💨

I loved this book!

If you love these tropes....then this book is for you!

Tropes:
- Hockey Romance
- Second Chance
- Romantic Suspense
- It’s Always Been You
- Mental Health Rep

Lilah and Nix have an insane connection when they first meet but it just wasn't in the cards for them at the moment. Nix friends her until they can't deny their true feelings anymore after almost two years pass.

Lilah returns and finds that Nix is not the same man he was back in college. He's grown up to be a very handsome, tattooed hockey player. Nix's feelings for Lilah never changed and they finally move past their troubles. Once they come together, it's fiery and passionate. I especially loved Nix's fancy peen! That was hot! I loved every minute of it. Lilah tells Nix her secrets and he's understanding and wants to support her in every way.

I love their friends, Chiral, Marina, Liam, and Lottie appearances in this book. They make their own family and they're very supportive and protective of each other.

I recommend this book!

Li and Nix

Since book 2 left on a bit of a cliffhanger, I immediately jumped into book 3 of the Ballad University Series. Breakaway follows Lilah and Nix. They’d been dating for over a year, but she’s always kept him at arms length; still, both were genuinely in love, and Nix had high hopes for where their relationship was going. Until she disappeared from his life with nothing more than a cryptic goodbye note.

Fast forward a couple years, and Lilah realizes that not only does she miss her friends, but Nix truly is the love her her life, and now she’s determined to go back and fix all the broken relationships. But will she be able to mend the heart she broke in leaving, and is it even safe for her to return to Boston? You’ll have to read to find out

ARC REVIEW

what a perfect ending to this series!

lilah and nix have been my favorites since freezing the puck (as much as i love lottie and liam i have been waiting for breakaway since the beginning!!!) their relationship has always intrigued me! i just knew they would be the freakiest 😮‍💨🥵

i do wish lilah had done a little more groveling - but i love how her and nix finally came back together! they were so perfect for one another, they balanced each other out so well. they brought out the best in each other and i was so glad to see their love evolve. i was so glad lilah got the help she needed and realized she deserved to be happy and loved.

releases on 12.20!! hope y’all love it as much as i did 🤍

It was okay. I think Lilah could have handle things differently at the start but I understand she was scared. I also think Nix could have spoken with his mother and set things straight prior to their trip. I thought Eva was going to be a bigger problem and be more involved in their story but she wasn’t thank god but also nix was a clueless dumbass for not realizing Eva was in love with him. The fact that he didn’t tell her not to be touchy with him when he had reunited with lilah pissed me off bc lilah had to endure it and if it was the other way around he def wouldn’t have liked it and made it a big deal. That’s it.

I enjoyed this read so much! Once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down! The connection between these two and how much their bodies and souls were drawn to one another made me swoon. Lilah is so strong with everything she has to go through. Nix is everything. He loves and cares so much for Lilah. He really is a big sweetheart BUT is so dominant in the bedroom.😮‍💨 I really loved both characters and their story so much.

I also enjoyed the bit of suspense and mystery in this read. I just had to see how everything played out.

I have loved every single aspect of the Ballad U crew, but there was honestly no better couple to end on than Li & Nix. I read this entire story in 6 hours, because I just couldn’t put it down.

I loved every single moment of it, that we weren’t put through any third act breakups, and that I related so very much to the mental health struggles we see Li go through.

My heart hurts knowing I finished this series, but I am so thankful T.D. gave us three amazing couples to love, and a little sneak peak at their HEA’s in a second epilogue.
