Jasmine Young is the nobledark fantasy author of over 15 titles to date.
When she was thirteen, she first dreamed of becoming published after devouring Eragon in a few days on Grandma's couch. As a once painfully anxious introvert, her exposure to fantasy started with hiding out in the library with a great book.
Thirteen years later, her tomboy dreams came true.
Today, she is known worldwide as a part time hermit and a full time rebel. She is also the proud mother of birds. The family currently lounges in Florida.
When she’s not reminiscing about her gaming days or getting lost in old epics like LOTR, Jasmine writes a blend of epic, romantic, and dark fantasy to entertain and empower, especially the underdogs.

Well, I'm glad I don't have much longer to wait until A Battling of Continents comes out. Packed with tons of action, plot twists, and some big-time emotional moments, A Building of Empires takes what I enjoyed about A Banishing of Kings and leveled it up! The last few chapters were so intense. I planned to just read a couple of chapters but then ended up finishing the book because I was locked in and had to keep going.
This has become one of my favorite series to obsess over. I continue to be impressed and enthralled by Jasmine's writing and this world she's created. If you haven't embarked on this journey yet, you're missing out!!
{Received an ARC for a honest review} Jasmine Young has done it again with "A Building of Empires," the third book in her "Realm Breaker" series. Skalda and her dragon Bale embark on a raw, danger-filled adventure, pushing themselves to "level up" Bale's abilities, leading to irreversible situations. The story is packed with complex characters and surprising plot twists, and the world-building—complete with dragons, dwarves, and elves (oh my!) and other mythical walks of life... If only there were unicorns… (sorry, inside joke) What I love most is the emotional depth and moral ambiguity; you can never be sure who to trust. Jasmine is absolutely cutthroat in her storytelling, making harsh choices that have real repercussions. Sacrifices are made, and no one is safe. The series keeps getting grimmer but never loses that glimmer of hope. So, If you're into epic high fantasy with a gritty edge, this series is a must-read. Plus, I'm thrilled to get my first-ever signed copy of a book, and it's this one! The cover art, as always, is stunning and will look amazing on my shelf!
I genuinely cannot get enough of this series! This has one of the most advanced, fleshed out plots I’ve seen in a very long time. There are so many characters interweaving throughout the story and they all end up converging in the most unlikely ways. I feel like this one is truly deserving of the category “Epic High Fantasy” I’m both extremely excited and terrified for the conclusion! No spoilers! Just read it!! You won’t regret it!
This is another outstanding read from my all time favorite author. It has great characters and the world building is fabulous. I have to say that it is quite long and I wanted to take my time so I could absorb it all. It's full of excitement, drama, epic battles, magic, struggles, triumph and death. So many things happen in this one. Bael is no longer the small funny dragon. He is now like a smart mouthed teenager who bickers with Scalda constantly which is comical. Scalda and Bael are still on the run. It seems everyone wants Bael dead but Scalda would give her life to save Bael. After helping someone out she gets an idea. She gets to ask for 3 things in return and the most useful was to change their appearances to make it easier. Her wish was granted but to Skalda's horror she now looks like a hag. Bael is turned into a white dragon which is better than black. When the Order of True Light captures her, she will face the inquisitors and their masters of torture, and an old friend Kael will show his true colors and its then that Scalda will dismiss old feelings. Scalda is desperately trying to advance Bael's chapters. She buys a war zone and together with her second they begin buildingi. I absolutely loved their recruiting tactics. Scalda keeps trespassing into higher level war grounds trying to advance Bael and they face many creatures along the way but she won't stop until Bael is what she knows he was meant to be. Bael on the other hand has been suffering from night terrors regarding things he saw when falling in his egg & the fear of his true riders return. Bael doesn't want that rider because he chose Scalda and he will avoid that at all costs. That rider returnds in the epic ending of this book and the grand finale is truly awesome. I loved this and can't wait for the next one from this amazing author.
I've really been enjoying this series. It's a delightfully different story. My only complaint would be that it sometimes reads as though it's translated from another language into English. I'm not sure if that was the author's intent, but...
The realm building and dragon's chapters are my least favorite parts to these stories. They lend a board-game type of feel to the book that I'm probably too old to appreciate. In fact, this will make a great role-playing type of electronic game.
The fmc is fairly one dimensional and predictable. She is yet to grow beyond her original ambitions or mature much as a human being or woman. Three books in, and she's still the same adolescent girl despite having been through a LOT. She does little to work on herself to achieve what she desires and instead seems to rely heavily on others and good fortune. And she can't seem to stop killing people.
The mcs are mostly different versions of the same guy.
I'm enjoying Bale the most, but I feel like he, too, has spent a long time as an adolescent.
It's time for both of them to drink a big cup of Grow Up juice. But, the story is not over, so hopefully, a satisfying ending is on the horizon.
Truly epic in scope and vision, ABOE is an amazing journey throughout the continent as Skalda attempts to 'level up' her Bael while hiding from those who would prefer to see her (and Bale) dead.
This installment of the series has it all: dragons, dwarves, giant wolves, elves, men, and creatures that are half-dead, all wrapped up with betrayal, treachery, kindness, redemption, sacrifice, and blindness.
If epic high fantasy is your thing, this is most certainly well-worth your time to read.
I have waited in anticipation for this book and it has not disappointed! When I started it, I knew I would lose sleep until I finished it!
Initially, it was somewhat difficult to try and remember all the players again, and I imagine it would be so again next year, so I hope it would be finished sooner :-)
The only thing that I wish you to incorporate in your next book is to make Scalda doubt herself less and to boost her with more confidence and certainty.
I had been waiting for the next book in this series for what felt like forever - the day finally came and it did not disappoint!!! The author does a fantastic job at pulling you in, and I could not put the book down. So many twists and turns - the ending was unexpected and awesome which has me so excited for the next one! Definitely recommend if you love stories that include dragons, magic, mythical beings, and unexpected heroes!
one of the best dragon fantasy series I’ve ever read
I started reading dragon fantasy’s about two years ago, some have been unputdownable and this series is one of them. I will now anxiously await book 4 and will likely re-read the first three Realm Breaker books while I wait. Jasmine Young is an incredible author who brings her characters to life and holds you in thrall throughout her books!
Wow! This series just keeps getting better with each book. Jasmine Young has the superb skills in character and world building to keep readers interested. Once I started reading this book it was difficult to put down. I think Skalda is my favorite character as she is not afraid to go after what she wants. There is a lot of action, twists, turns, and even some emotional bits. I definitely recommend reading this book.
I still work away at finishing this series part sof it are so good yet other tug at me as unpleasant. I have thought on this and think some of the scaling for power of the dragons (or lack there of) seems to clash with expectations or maybe it is what I want. But still a proper built world woth character development.
A saga that constantly develops and surprises. Grim and yet hopefull, breathtaking! Compex characters and storyline. Beaurifully written. Epic fantasy at its best.
Wowowowow. So many ups and downs, so many dragons, a couple love interests (!!!!), and lots of drama. Really enjoying this story and how I NEVER know who’s good or evil (I am getting better at remembering their names though). Excited for the next one!
This is such a great series! I loved this book, although it did have some tough choices for Scáda. I did not expect how this book ended, however, I am eager to see if things work out in book four, A Battling of Continents.
This book series is not your typical predictable fantasy series. The imagery is great, as well as the multiple plot lines. This could easily be adapted to TV or movie.
3.5 stars, I made it a little over halfway but I had to put it down. It’s a great story, but it desperately needs to be edited and cleaned up. Once it gets picked up by an editor I will come back for a re read.
Lots of moving parts to the story, challenging to keep up with the various characters at times and remember the various names used as titles, honorifics and those meant as derision and insult.
I have been completely consumed by this series and have gotten absolutely nothing done in my house! So much non stop action and twist and turns . I have to see this thing through !
Another awesome story that will capture you and take you away to a different world. Danger everywhere, how will this all work out. Once you start reading, there’s no stopping.
I’ve enjoyed the first two books though admit to struggling with the third. I see all the 5 star ratings on it but wonder if those readers struggle with remembering who is who like I do. For me, who enjoys the fantasy genre, it is difficult to keep up with knowing which characters (beyond the main ones) belong to which group and who is plotting to murder who. Regardless, I keep plugging along and will finish it.
Skalda continues to find a way to advance Bale's chapters but not without lots of chaos. Most of them want him dead but Skalda will protect him with her life. She ends meeting some of her old friends but they have all changed. She will encounter many challenges that can be deadly. She doesn't know who to trust not sure who is friend or foe. Some want her Bale dead and they will go to very intense ways to end him. But, with their bond, they are determined to protect each other. The book is intense at times but will keep you turning the pages. Another great book in the series.
