In the seedy underbelly of the nation’s capital, a drug deal gone wrong ignites a firestorm which threatens to pull the entire city into a gang war.
Special Agent Emily Slate, still investigating the possibility she may still have living family is brought in to help determine who is killing criminals and why. Someone is looking to position themselves as the new leader of the criminal underworld. The only question is who would be so brazen? And can she stop the backlash before innocent people are caught in the crossfire?
Teaming up with a new department, Emily, Zara, Liam are given the impossible assignment of finding the culprit. But tracking down this killer is easier said than done. The only evidence left behind is the professional way in which the victims were dispatched.
As she teeters on the precipice between law and lawlessness, between the questions of her lineage and the clear call of justice, one thing remains certain: Emily Slate will stop at nothing to reveal the truth, no matter how perilous the path may be.
Like I said in the last review on book 12I'm getting a little sick of Emily slate And her ego problems. Not only that but her obsession with Zara Foley borders on the icky; Much more than being just best friends. And her stupid dog is getting really tiresome. Getting sick of him too. I don't know I really think that maybe this series is going downhill. I really liked them at first; But she is so But she's so egocentric that I just I'm starting to dislike her very much.
Another brilliant day in the life of Agent Emily Slate. This one had a very different turn and an education that most law enforcement agencies would likely have a task force dedicated to their respective organized criminal groups in their city/ region; moreover, the presumptive way these entities may likely operate cooperatively and symbiotically.
Yet, right in the middle of it all is our heroine, that somehow navigates her way through the roadblocks of the job, both internally and externally. She is a force to reckon with and a human with her faults and idiosyncrasies.
We are nearing the end of "season two" - the second arc - and an eager to read how this all ends.
This is a great series for those who love this genre and even for those (like myself) that stumbled into it.
This is a very good thriller. It keeps you in suspense until the very end. I can't wait to read the conntinuuing. Book. I highly recommend this book and series.
While still dealing with the aftermath of the loss of her mother’s family home to arson in Ohio, Emily‘s entire unit is assigned to assist in averting a possible gang war. Someone is targeting the five major gangs in the DC area. But who and why are a complete mystery. Our fave FBI team is definitely feeling the pressure as they race to solve the case before the criminals take matters (& retribution) into their own hands.
Emily’s antagonistic relationship with her SAC, Wallace, seems to be coming to a head. But while she’s on this case she has something of a reprieve, reporting instead to the gang unit’s SAC instead. Seeing Emily work so seamlessly with the gang unit only served to reinforce that there’s something rotten with Wallace. We just have to hold out patiently for the resolution.
Amidst all this drama, Emily & Liam are taking the big step of moving in together. As usual, Liam is such a rock-solid support, picking up the slack while Emily does what she does best: solve the case. I can’t help but wonder when / if he’s going to call Emily out putting their relationship second…
The saga of the mysterious letters took a backseat this installment, making its presence felt only in the book’s final paragraph. I’m on tenterhooks here! Another fabulous installment.
FBI Special Agent Emily Slate has been pulled into a very high priority case involving the four biggest gangs in the DC area. Someone has been targeting each gang and it’s up to Emily to figure out who it is.
This is the second to last book in season 2 of the Emily Slate series and all of the books are available for free with #KindleUnlimited. I can really feel things ramping up with this one and I can’t wait for the final book!
Thank you @AlexSigmore for the advanced copy of this book. I loved it!
Emily and Liam are finally going to move in together but the move is delayed by a big vase. Someone is killing members of the gangs in DC. Violent Crimes is brought in to help Gangs to try to keep the coming war from escalating. Emily and Sara have experience with Santino Tuscalini so they start investigating his where abouts and unravel who is doing what. They get their man and SAC Wallace is fired for his discrimination of Emily. Great series, well written, fluid and easily read.
Emily's story has been a series I sincerely hate waiting to see what will happen next. It will be sad to see the end of this saga yet it will be great to finally get all the answers. Always interesting and full of action. For any fan interested in the tales of an FBI agent this is definitely a must read!
The whole book was amazing, but that ending....wow!! I've read all the Emily Slate series and I can honestly tell you every single one is unputdownable! I thoroughly enjoy Mr. Sigmores' talent and am looking forward to more!
Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. The more time Agent Emily Slate has been forced to endure to unravel the continuous labyrinthine questions the cryptic letters have manifested into Emily's life has left her exhausted. And returning to the town of Millridge- where a pointless encounter only serves to piss Emily off. Even as new family knowledge Emily and Liam is uncovered, Emily's presence is demanded back into Washington D.C.. and finds herself pulled into a burbling inferno as someone in a cold, calculated fashion is targeting the numerous violent gangs that call the nation's capitol as their home to their various illegal activities. With their knowledge by experience of the Toscani crime family, Emily and Zara become a strange asset to agent Cervantes that is leading the crazy operation to protect innocent life that would endure a high cost if a gang war explodes around them. Plunged into a unique world where criminals and those serving to uphold justice dance around each other in a bizarre relationship; Emily discovers a level of poignancy within hardened criminals that reminds her even these individuals are affected by the violence they unleash.
Ties That Bind is Alex's most beautiful and poetic story as well having fiery encounters that will change Emily's life in and outside her work at the FBI.
Major plot failure. A car was on fire in front of Emily’s home when Janice was visiting her. They both rushed out and saw it and also saw a dead body in it. Janice called it in and forensics was looking into it. They thought it might be Emily’s aunt and the burned car matched the description of the one that tried to run Emily and Zara off the road. NEVER HEARD ABOUT IT AGAIN. Instead that car was miraculously reincarnated after Auntie stepped in front of Emily’s car and was run over. While Auntie was in the hospital they found the reincarnated car somewhere (not in front of Emily’s home) and it was burned and had a sack of bones in the trunk. ?????? What happened to the original dead car and body? This was never addressed in this or the subsequent book.
I have been glued to the Emily Slate books for two weeks now, captivated by her drive, passion and investigative gut that’s almost always right. Unfortunately, this is my least favorite of the series so far! It was hard to keep up with, considering so many players and potential suspects for the killings. The first book in the series that was a miss for me!
Mystery still revolves around the mysterious fire that injured Liam, as tension with SSA Wallace continues to build and a gang war is on the brink of erupting, without a clear origin.
What a ride! This is another fantastic read from Alex. At first I was disappointed to be reading about gangs. However, when things began to pop, it was “Katy bar the door!” Some real surprises are in store for the readers. Enjoy!
Snow storm check, pellet stove check, couch check, blanket check, tea check , cat check and most importantly... A great book. Lost power but finished the book!!
This series and the author continue to amaze me. So many plot twists and turns and I’m frequently surprised at how things end. I’m ready for book 14. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys reading mystery thriller novels.
And the saga goes on. Emily Slate the FBI Prima Donna continues to fight crimes and her own personal drama. Hoping the next book has more Liam and a little less Zara!
Wow. Every single book gets better. I read 13 books in 3 weeks. I can’t wait for the next book to come out. This was another fast paced race till the end. I’m ready for this thread to be solved too.
For those who love crime thrillers with flawed and unique characters this is a must read series.
