Welcome to the Dragon Realm of Savra, where young dragons, known as Small Flames, compete in the yearly Fire Ridge Tournament to become Valor Dragons. Who will win? Who will be defeated? Each Small Flame has a different story!
Zuri the Gold is a great dragon fighter, just like her mother was. In fact, Zuri has never lost a fight—she fights almost perfectly. But when she finally loses a fight in the tournament, she starts to worry that she won’t be able to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Will Zuri figure out that she doesn’t have to be perfect? Or will she be dismissed from the Fire Ridge Tournament?

Small Flames is an illustrated set of fantasy adventure chapter books that can be read in any order. Recommended for ages six to ten.
I really like this one. I think my nieces will love it. A.M. Luzzader is always bring real life problems to the younger kids in a way they can relate and understand.
Motivated by the loss of her mother, Zuri wants to be the best fighting dragon there is, to ultimately be accepted as a Valor Dragon. The themes of the story are mostly emphasized with overcoming the idea of perfectionism and good sportsmanship. Out of the three Small Flames books, this was my least favorite, but still a cute, light read with nothing inappropriate in it for it’s target audience. It is also a quick read at only 70 pages, which is not overwhelming to an early chapter book reader. While I don’t believe this one is worthy of an award or anything, it has a nice place on my shelf waiting for it for when my children are ready to read it. I am thankful to this author that she wrote this series because my son specifically desires to read tales beguiling him of dragons, and as it turns out, there are not that many to choose from for an early reader.
I firmly believe this "book" was written by AI. The writing is simply awful, with disjointed sentence structure and bad grammar. There's even some instances of subject/verb disagreement, which should never happen with a competent author. I had to edit it on the fly when reading it to my daughter. Amazon has the author's children's books available on their Kindle Unlimited platform, so at least I didn't pay for it directly.
Everyone involved with this garbage, especially A.M. Luzzader (assuming she's actually a real person), should be ashamed. Seriously. It's crap. Please don't expose your kids to horribly-written books like this one.
This was my son’s first chapter book and he loved it! Not only is it a fun story, it also has many valuable lessons about character as the driving force of the book. Sportsmanship was a key point and really hit home with my son!
Read this with my grandsons (ages 6 & 9) and they both enjoyed it! It can be hard to find something they both enjoy and this was perfect for them. Fun story - and now they are both asking me to get the other Small Flames books.

This is a very cute book! I read it with my 7 year old! This is the first chapter book that we have read together! She really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the next one!
My youngest wanted me to read this book. Cute kids book.
Using dragons to make it more interesting. And teaching a lesson that we don't require perfection but we do need to have kindness and respect, while doing our best.
