I don't even know if what ails Rishi is cancer, as he's going on 14 years old and I won't even be putting him through tests to determine the cause of the changes in his health. I choose instead to focus on the quality of his life in the here and now. But if he were much younger and diagnosed with something that was definitely treatable, I would want this book to help guide me through making decisions. The chapter on euthanasia was somewhat comforting; I learned that the word comes from Greek and literally means "easy death." "For the terminally ill animal cancer patient, euthanasia is a gift --a final act of caring. Our focus shifts from "quality of life" to "quality of death."

I went to school to be a vet and one of the hardest things to hear is the word cancer. As an animal lover its no less upsetting that its your pet and loved one. This book helps just a bit with coping with pets with cancer. I would hand this out to clients when they received that sad information.

This covers the basic information you would want to know when dealing with cancer in your pet, from diagnosis, to treatment, to end. It's a short book - I read it in a couple of days in a few short spurts - but it covers a lot of good information. And excellent book to start with when dealing with cancer.
