The Kingdom, a mystical and metaphysical realm, sits at the nexus of the Parliaments. A formidable new adversary, Dr. Hate, emerges with intentions to corrupt both the Kingdom and the Parliament of the Red in the pursuit of chaos. Batwing, Vixen, Val-Zod Superman, and Black Manta are thrust together in a desperate fight for survival. They must learn to cooperate to thwart Dr. Hate’s destructive plans before The Wicked Entity can devastate this unique plane, which represents a collective consciousness. This consciousness unifies the Red, Green, Rot, Clear, Melt, Metal, and Grey into a harmonious realm of peace. In their struggle against Dr. Hate, these heroes and villains also face the task of unraveling how Amanda Waller’s rise is entwined with the ongoing crisis. The saga features guest appearances from Nubia, Dr. Mist, Red Tornado, Dead Eye, and more!

God, that art was horrendous. It's like sketch layouts the artist sends to the editor to get an ‘okay' before drawing the real thing — I had NO idea wtf was going on half the time. And I feel bad giving it such a low rating as it's a story made up of only black heroes & villains, but God did they do them dirty with the writer & artist. It's so incoherent, and inconsistent and just a complete mess all over. I honestly don't know wtf I just read. It just brings a bunch of black characters together — most of which haven't been used in any DC Comics for 5+ years — and bands them together, because... I don't even know why?? It's so random. And it bothers me it sucked so bad as I love Val Zod (and Black Manta, tbh) ehh. Hard pass.
So this was a bit of a hot mess. Not a Gotham War hot mess (thank god, we don't have to go through that again), or Hal Jorden hot mess (you know the fun kind), but a hot mess it was. I like the idea behind this story but some parts were confusing or neglicting that much needed info dump. The art and coloring was stunning, but the writing left much to be desired. I'll explain.
For starters this felt more like an epilogue and there was just this big gap of time missing between when this took place and when Beast World took place. Except Beast World is currently taking place and we just started it, so why does this feel like an ending? Better yet a seperate story. At the top of the cover it says Beast world, so give me that.
Besides Dr.Hate's appearance, this didn't really feel like a tie-in to Beast World. Sure everyone kept referencing Beast boy spores but I got the sense of no real danger from them, unlike in the very first issue of the main series where it ended with absolute panic all over the globe.
The fact everyone was more concerned with a missing bomb in the Kingdom (a place that's new to me as a reader) then the fact that people are getting taken over by spores in a graphic manner (which we never see & which I thought this was what the story would be about) just makes this feel like it took place after the event we are in or set on a different earth.
The Kingdom by the way is a "...unique plane, which represents a collective consciousness. This consciousness unifies the Red, Green, Rot, Clear, Melt, Metal, and Grey into a harmonious realm of peace." I pulled that from the back of the issue. I honestly didn't know that while I was reading this, so maybe that should have been explained more clearly.
This also suffered from having way too many characters thrown in all at once. So many that it felt pointless to have them all there because they literally did nothing but agree with Vixen. Show me their distinct fighting styles, give me more character depth, and give me Amazon Queen Nubia. I don't want to turn this into Nubia-got-cheated rant but why were we not treated to panels of her kicking Dr.Hate's a**. And yes I know it's Vixen's and Archie's time to shine, but as loathed as I am to say it, you could cut her out of this and it wouldn't change the plot. In fact half of these characters could have been cut and nothing would have changed which just sucks because they are all badass characters.
There were some good things. For example Dr.Hate was a fascinating antagonist (hope he is more then just a one time appearance), Waller was once again the absolute worse (which is how she should be written) and I like what that ending is setting up. Archie had easily become the one I am most intrested in reading more about. But that's all I can say.
It was as if the writers wanted to tell one story but were forced add lines "beast boy" here or "titans" there which made things not quite line up and feeling very seperate from the Titans current storyline. Which personally I hate it when tie-ins don't even feel like tie-ins.
In short as it's own story it's good but as a tie-in, it's unnecessary to read. All you need to know is Dr.Hate is back in Waller's grasp even if at this point in time we never actuallu saw him leave that spot it in the first place...maybe they will give us a tie-in to show us when that happend.

I'm clearly missing something because GR is rating it but it's a zero outta five for me.
It's a story about characters I've mostly never heard of once (showing my comic age there probably) and it's impossible to follow. Some vague idea about a secret world? With an abundance of trapped characters who kind of all look the same?!
And the art, THE ART. WHAT THE HECK. It's all a watercolour blur that blends everything into a mess that is impossible to decipher.
