Friends to Lovers #11

My Office Wife

Is someone still considered your “work wife” if you’re both women?

Rachel and Brittany have been friends for a long time. Good friends. They both started at Phoenix Software on the same day and have worked on the same team ever since. For years they’ve joked around calling each other their office spouse, much to the consternation of the women they’ve dated.

But lately, things have felt different…

First, there’s that time Brittany accidentally walks in on Rachel showering in the company gym. And there’s that tiny little kiss after the office holiday party, the one neither of them can stop thinking of. And then there’s an unexpected mix-up at the hotel on a company trip. When the two friends wind up sharing a room, they can’t hide their feelings any longer.

Turns out that their feelings are more ‘wifey’ than friendly, but can their relationship survive the change?

“My Office Wife” is book eleven in the “Friends to Lovers” romantic novella series. Each book in the series is a steamy standalone featuring an LGBTQ couple making the leap from friends to lovers and looking for their "happily ever after".

Another of Reba Bale’s excellent novellas, light and sexy, but also thoughtful and well written.

Great little short, sweet, spicy, story. I love these bite sized stories from this author. They are well developed and complete enough to be satisfying yet also short enough to slip in between reading larger novels. This one (like most) was fairly straightforward and cut right to the chase, while also being very satisfying. There were lots of feelings packed into the pages, some nice spicy bits, and a complete (enough) story. I don’t think there was enough here to give it 5-stars, but I also have zero complaints.

Serious though: has anyone actually ever had sex once “to get it out of their system” and had that work??

Cute friends to lovers, just like the sticker says. There was a decent amount crammed into roughly 50 pages — some background, some angst, some getting together, some being confused by feelings and not wanting to mess with the friendship, some friends to help… Still it had to go pretty fast to fit and it’s easy to want more to the story than we got! The only thing that bothered me was a number of references to rom-coms… which was perhaps a bit too self-aware. :)

All in all a nice addition to the series.

My Office Wife: Friends to Lovers #11 by Reba Bale: I will start with a quote “The tension between us is too uncomfortable. Let’s just promise each other that we’ll have this night…Then tomorrow we’ll go back to how we’ve always been, and never mention it again” From that second I knew I would be unhappy by the end. Guess what when I bed someone I will not quickly forget unless it is an awful adventure. If I know or like them and already have them fully in my life I will never forget and it will haunt me. 3 Stars for effort because it was not my style. I reluctantly finished and smiled.

3 stars. Eh. I was expecting it to be better. I love a good office romance but this one felt rushed. Everything about it felt rushed underdeveloped. Brittany and Rachel were okay characters but their chemistry was seriously lacking for me.
