When my chihuahua turns into my celebrity crush, it’s like a fanfiction come to life.
Not my fanfiction, mind you.
I could never write the Doliver Talon eating dog food, submitting himself to tiny costumes, or gnawing on chicken feet under my bed without his millions of fangirls going feral.
To put it plainly, self-preservation forbids me from upsetting the twelve-year-old masses…
It does not, however, forbid me from mingling with a moth prince, a vampire cat, and a grumpy single-dad dream eater in a magical world I never could have imagined.
Even with the imminent threat of encountering Ollie’s alphahole brothers, I’ve finally found the place I belong.
Unfortunately, staying there means giving up everything that makes me human.
And no matter how hard I fall for the man who has spent the past year writing me secret love songs, some decisions weigh less when they’re only fanfiction.
Falling in Love with My Chihuahua Shifter is a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy with light fantasy elements, neurodivergent characters, and plenty of closed-door sizzle.
Camilla Evergreen is an alias of USA Today bestselling author Anne Stryker. Originally intended as a dumping ground for all things lacking fantasy, Camilla/Anne came to the shocking discovery that writing sarcastic, chaotic romcoms full of quippy heroines and adoring heroes has a kick to it.
Camilla/Anne’s neurodivergent tendencies leave her hyperfocused on writing sweet and sassy romances from dawn till dusk and lending whatever her current creative obsessions are to her characters. From arranged marriages to falling for the boss, there’s lots of love to go around.
Thank you SO MUCH author for the ARC It was perfect. I finished it in a day because I have absolutely no self control when it comes to camilla's books . And now I'd like to reread it again please . This book literally makes me so happy . Brittany just found a world where everything truly makes sense to her. where she truly feels at home it’s makes me want to cry because I want this ------ ------- ------ - ALSO THE ROMANCE?? THE ROMANCE?? THE ABSOLUTE PERFECTION OF THE ROMANCE WITH THE PERFECT AMOUNT OF BANTER?? ------ “Next question.” “Would you still love me if I were a worm?” He snorts. “What? You can turn into a dog. What if something happens, and I turn into a worm? It’s a perfectly valid question.”
------ - I love the characters so much SO MUCH I can talk all day about each and every single character in this book but I'll try to make it short and sweet and when you read it you'll find out EXACTLY what I mean -------------------- ------ 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀. “𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲? 𝗜 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲.”
Alana is literally me . ---------------------- --------
WARNING ⚠️ ⚠️ the level of cuteness in this book is HIGH not meant for weak hearts
ALSO THEIR FRIEND GROUP?? THEIR FRIEND GROUP??? I want in .
Oh my heart! This book took me, shredding me, and then put me back together again! I don't know how Camilla does it, but she is able to write in such a way that I feel like I'm in the book having these thoughts. Probably because the characters are so relatable and echo my own feelings and thoughts.
My heart ached for Ollie, who feels like me isn't quite good enough. My heart felt for Brittny, who longs to be in a different world. Together, they overcome their hardships and find home in one another. It's a story of give and take, push and pull, your 70% to my 30%.
Camilla wrote a beautiful world of realistic characters and inspiration breakthroughs! Falling in Love with my Chihuahua Shifter is now available to purchase! I love this series!!
"I reach for his shirt and tug on the magic fabric, which feels remarkably tangible. “Don’t be so old-fashioned.”
“Coquettish maiden. Dost thou seek to tempt me with thy winsome wiles?”
“I only want cuddles, my lord. And to get you off the floor before your old man back gives out.”
With a heinous sigh, he rises, looming over my small bed. “I love you. Most ardently.”
“That’s from something, isn’t it?” I ask as I scoot back toward the wall in an effort to make room for him.
"Really?” He tucks me into the covers then settles himself on top of them on the opposite edge of the narrow mattress. “Pride and Prejudice is still popular.”"
CONTENT -🤬: none -❤️: former promiscuity mentioned, mention of STDs, makeouts -⚠️: overbearing parents, BUCKETLOADS of shame
I did like this one...but not as much as the first. I really enjoyed being back in the world and seeing Willow and Zylus, Pollux & Cael again. That part was highly enjoyable.
The part that I struggled with was all of the shame that Ollie carried around, and how completely low his self-worth was, even when all of his friends were around him, reminding him of his strengths and his goodness. It was so prevalent, which was just a lot.
Favorite Quotes: 😆 Oh my word. He’s shy. He’s literally shy. Shy and capable of producing dimples? I won’t survive this.

📣Words are simple, yet powerful. They can build up, and tear down. The most important ones, however, will always be the ones we tell ourselves. So we should make sure the story in our head is a good one. It should be the fanfiction of our lives, the way we would write our plot if we were in control of it. Because…we are.
Camilla Evergreen has done it again and written a story that has all the feels and brought me to tears!
Brit and Ollie have just moved into my heart and are living rent free in mind-- at this rate I am going to charge Camillia Rent because I'm running out of real estate for other authors to move their characters into. In true Evergreen fashion, this story is own of love, passion, vulnerability, and the power of people to find each other and discover their true self with the unconditional acceptance that comes from friends and mates. I loved that this world is quickly filling up with Found Family that is continually growing to incorporate and celebrate all the new family they find. And, this is so much fun because characters from earlier books are included so we keep in touch with them and new characters who have not gotten their books yet are being introduced and I am excited to follow their upcoming stories. This book can be read as a standalone, but I cannot all you much fun it is to read these in order because you feel pike a member of the family 💖
Evergreen's keep eye for detail, vivid writing style, unique style of humor, and original storytelling, the That's (Para) Normal series will draw you in and hold as story after story draws you in - makes you feel welcome and at home - in this world of shifters, fairies, fae, and royalty. This is a book you do not want to miss!
“Sometimes overcoming a fear doesn’t mean getting rid of it so much as it means not letting it stop you.”
🐕 The vibes: - paranormal romance - Opposites attract - insta love - Neurodivergent rep
🐕 My thoughts:
This book has similar vibes to the other books that I’ve read by this author which I looooved. It’s zany and strange but romantic and endearing in the midst of the eccentricity. It gives me really happy feelings to read this style of writing and I have never read anything like the work from this author. Because of that- I look forward to any releases from her and will always run to read her books.
With that said- I think it’s a style you’ll either love and find lovely or you may be wacked out and not into it. I think it’s worth trying and if you love one of her books- you will likely enjoy them all!
Something about this one that I wish we had more of was the progression of Ollie and Brittny. Her love for him felt instant - and this is always an element that’s hard for me to invest in or root for. It’s personal preference so this is something you may love that just didn’t work for me. Some of the themes felt repetitive- such as Ollie’s negative self worth and Brittny’s constant reassurance. There’s a lot of telling rather than showing and I think that’s may be why I felt like their attachment was so quick. They sure did have some really cute moments though.
Something I loved was being back in the Faerie universe and seeing beloved characters from the previous book. Willow is queen.
Overall I enjoyed it and I’m really looking forward to the next one in this paranormal series.
*spoiler-ish thoughts ahead*
Lots of questions I had throughout. Why Brittny is so in love with Ollie so fast? Why isn’t she freaked out at all? She’s willing to give up humanity so fast…..why??What exactly is up with Ollie’s brother ? They seem level ten terrible but we are never told why they are level ten terrible or what they did to Ollie in the past.
Release date: February 13, 2024.
Thank you so much to Camilla Evergreen for an advanced reader copy of this book to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Loved this one! Ollie is the sweetest and you can’t help but fall for him and want the very best for him. And Brittny is so good for him-just loves him and accepts him unconditionally💛.
Oh, Ollie. Your author friend says we probably shouldn’t relate to you, but sadly, shame is a story too often written into our lives so naturally I think so many of us will. Even if you aren’t a fan of Paranormal/Romantasy books, you can probably find something meaningful to relate to here. Ms. Evergreen has a way of writing so much heart and believable humanity into her (sometimes not even human) characters that suddenly you find yourself thinking “I relate to this chihuahua man shifter heartthrob” or “Wow this vampire cat person gets me.” (Previous book) And yeah, it’s a weird, cool in a kind of unhinged way, kinda steamy in an entirely clean way, make you want to laugh AND cry sort of romance. I won’t go into character descriptions or any plot because I think the author and other reviewers do that remarkably well, so I’ll just leave it at: this book is not for everyone, but the message is for almost anyone and I truly don’t think you’ll regret giving it a chance even if it’s out of your [para]normal selection. (I did that, yes.)
I received this title as an ARC in exchange for my honest review and I genuinely did a happy dance when I realized I was added to the ARC Team for this release!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC copy of the book!
I have absolutely loved almost every book that I’ve read from Camilla Evergreen and was so surprised when I found myself disappointed with this one.
The book retains the fun and heartfelt style that Camilla brings to the That’s (Para) Normal series, but I found the relationship with Brittny and Ollie difficult to engage with. Both Brittny and Ollie have their struggles and by the end of the book have overcome them (the ending has a fabulous twist that I absolutely did not see coming), but following Brittny and Ollie through their growing relationship was rather tedious and sometimes a little annoying.
I was very surprised that I found myself in a couple of parts in the book questioning if I wanted to finish it. There is a lot of cute fluffy romantic scenes, but they were not enough for me to be able to overlook the often frustrating obstacles between Ollie and Brittny.
That being said, the book is worth picking up and reading, because there are going to be some who see themselves in Ollie or Brittny and it will resonate deeply with them, but that wasn’t me this time.
Falling in Love with My Chihuahua Shifter is the second book in the That's (Para)Normal series. While you might still enjoy this without having read the first one, I definitely think you'll get the most enjoyment reading them in order as a series.
If you're looking for a more typical shifter romance/paranormal/fantasy type read... well, this might not be it. Admittedly, I don't think I've ever actually read a true shifter romance, nor do I read a lot of fantasy/paranormal anyway, so I don't have a lot to draw that conclusion from aside from my outside understanding of the genres. These books are definitely super cozy and magical... without too much angst or high action. They are lighthearted and fun... while still also taking on rather serious topics as well. One thing I know without a doubt, you're always in for fun surprises when you pick up a Camilla Evergreen book--- and this was no exception.
I felt like this book leaned much more into the world of Faerie than the previous book. Again, not usually reading this genre, I'm glad I had read the first book as I found it eased me into it a little more and built upon that. I found that I really enjoyed this world that Camilla has created--- a world where it's absolutely okay to be exactly who you are and to need what you need... gems that will keep people from talking to me!? Um, yes please... my socially anxious/agoraphobic self is ALL for this world! And of course, the romance between Ollie and Brittny was absolutely the sweetest and I found myself really enjoying these characters, insecurities and all. In some ways it did feel a little quick (at least on her side), but that didn't bother me one bit.
As always, Camilla's books--- and I think this series especially--- might not be for everyone, but if you're someone who has ever felt like you didn't quite fit, there's a good chance you'll appreciate these unique reads. I know I certainly do.
Falling in Love with My Chihuahua Shifter is a closed-door romance with nothing beyond kisses. The author always does a wonderful job with triggers and reader expectations, so definitely be sure to read that to decide if it's for you.
**I received an ARC for consideration. All opinions are my own.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is book 2 in the That's (Para)Normal Book Series and, while it can be read as a standalone, I strongly encourage reading book 1 because having that familiarity will make the reading experience better. The book's blurb gives you an idea of what to expect, though be sure to read the author's note about what other content the story explores. Falling in Love with My Chihuahua is told through Brittny's pov and is a sweet but not your typical fated mates romance.
If you're not familiar with Camilla's writing, then you may be asking what is going on and you will be in for a wild ride. If you want a different and quirky take on the paranormal genre, then this is certainly the book for you to give a try - especially if you love stories with neurodivergent characters.
Brittny has spent her life trying to please others as she searches to find her place and person that will make her feel like she fits in. As the disappointment gets to her, she's thrilled when she meets Ollie and realizes they are meant to be. While Ollie returns her affections, his worries about not being enough are strong and he doesn't want her to sacrifice the life she's living to be with him. Yet, their feelings can't be denied and they both must decide if being together forever, in the way that they want to, is possible.
Their romance is an insta love type as they were fated to be together and I didn't mind, though I would've loved to get Ollie's pov. While their feelings felt like they happened quickly, the personal problems that they had to overcome made their romance somewhat of a slow burn. They both had issues to work through and I liked how they carefully considered their relationship. Their mutual obsession with each other was cute. The romance is a closed door one consisting of kissing, that is more than a peck but not steamy, discussion of physical intimacy, that aren't racy, and no cursing but a few possible choice words. Apart from their romance, I loved seeing the side characters that we met in the first book and the role that they played in this story. The world building was even more fun and Faerie is a dream world for introverts. I cannot wait to return to it with the next book.
"Falling in Love with My Chihuahua Shifter" is a beautiful, whimsical, and fun story written by Camilla Evergreen! Both the human world and Faerie world settings were described very well. I love how magical, peaceful, and beautiful Cael's kingdom is. The author has done wonderful work describing it. The characters feel three-dimensional and like real people with personalities, thoughts, emotions, and struggles of their own. I absolutely love these characters! They were so much fun to get to know. Brittny is such a sweet character and she is so dedicated to the people she loves. It was sad to see how some of the people around her treated her but I loved seeing the strong friendship and bond Brittny and her sister Alana have! Alana is such a fun character, too. I really enjoyed all of the anime references and her spirited personality. It was also really nice to see Alana stand up to their mother. Ollie! Oh how I love Ollie. Kind, sweet, selfless, I could go on and on about all of his amazing qualities. The romance is perfect! It is sweet, swoony, and has so much emotional depth. Brittny and Ollie are so good for each other. They bring out the best in each other! As well as help each other to realize their own self-worth. It was wonderful to follow them on their personal and emotional journeys and to see them realize how much they mean to each other. Willow and Zylus are great characters too! I enjoyed all of the banter and teasing between them. The speed of the plot is just right, the author's writing style is smooth and clear, the romance is sweet, swoony, and emotionally deep, the story is original and full of heart, and the characters are so lovable! I love this book! I can't wait to read more from this author. I cannot recommend it highly enough! 5 stars
Thank you very much to the author and her PA Naomi for the wonderful opportunity of being a part of the review team and for sending me a digital copy to read and review honestly.
Brittny (it IS the right spelling I swear!) is an overworked and overstressed executive assistant that spends all her nights and weekends being perfect (and underpaid and under appreciated) until she finds a stray precious chihuahua while on a walk in the woods. Brittny struggles to meet the standards of a perfectionist and seemingly narcissistic mother, and she and her sister are very close as a result,it’s themagainst the world though she and Alona live some distance apart.
Stopping at a stone cottage on her way to her car, she asks the young couple Willow and Zy, if it belongs to them, but they assure her the dog is meant for her and so she names it Oxford, dressing it in all kinds of hilarious outfits md feeding it expensive pet food…until the day Oxford turns into D’Oliver, her musical crush and soulmate.
There is a sequence of unexpected events as Brittny and Ollie prepare to move and become a couple, and Brittny finally leaves the job at which she is so unhappy (yay)as they make the move - with one big hurdle remaining, meeting Ollie’s family. (Brittny’s sister has given her blessing to their move and coupledom and the sisters will chat mostly by phone but expects they won’t see each other due to distance.)
I just won’t spoil the end for y’all but it is such a surprise and one humdinger of a family meetup with shocking results - great story, warm and wonderful characters that are so rich and flawed, dark, delicious and still delightful! Much like most of us.
A fascinating novel and an absolutely worthwhile read
A guilty something or other, to the degree that I didn’t even want to enter it here while reading it. Though, in fact, I think I liked it better than the Vampire Cat one. There was a smidge less angst, anguish and wallowing in insecurity and low self esteem… which is saying something because there was still a lot of it, and I did once again skim through sections. It’s still a lovely fantasy read and fantasy world. This time I felt it especially for those people who would score as “highly sensitive” on that test. Of which I probably am one, and the world here called to some aspects of me in some of those ways. It also felt like a utopia, and in what I think is a typical human reaction, I found myself skeptical/distrustful of it at some level. I actually have a similar reaction to all the highly sensitive people information I’ve read…really identify and feel “seen” in some ways, and feel myself pulling back, like “okay, this is a bit too..much?…too something” at the same time. So, maybe it’s me. Oh, and the entire book (actually, both books as well as the preview chapter of the third book) reads in much the same style as my above sentences.
Anyway, props to the author for getting me to read it at all. I read the vampire cat one because some people I know we’re going on and on about it, and Kindle started showing me this one as soon as I pulled up the cat one, and I was sure I wasn’t going to read it. But then I got curious. Now, throughout this book I was sure I would read the next one. But once I got to the end, I felt largely satisfied. So it remains to be seen whether I’ll read the next one or not.
“When you have love, really have love, that is all you need.”
Falling In Love With My Chihuahuah Shifter is a fun and quirky fae paranormal romance story. It is a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy with light fantasy elements.
Brittney is overworked, underpaid, and has trouble making friends. But, she has her dog Oxford and an unexpired invitation to movie night with a charismatic couple that she doesn’t really know. When Brittney discovers that her celebrity crush is living in the same town, she tries to help him with gaining confidence to confess his feelings to the person he loves. However, he’s hiding a secret, and once it’s revealed, Brittny has to choose between living the way she always has, or fight for something more…
@authorannemilla your vivid use of imagination brings this fun story alive!! I will say that it did take me a while to get into this story that is filled with so much that at times, I felt my head was spinning to make sense of things but, the curiosity and intrigue of Brittney and Ollie had me pursue on. I am glad I did!! I liked the message of being yourself, and what you have to offer is more than enough!! This story is a bit strange but endearing!! 🙌🏻📚😊
“It’s like every dream I’ve ever had is coming true. Every piece of every puzzle that I’ve been missing. It’s right here. It’s with him. Soulmates. A destiny filled with love. Someone to be my someone. And… and magic.”
“Unconditional love is the greatest help anyone can offer.”
I absolutely adore each and every one of the books this brilliant author write, and this darling little romance is no exception to that rule.
This story, along with the first book in the (Para)Normal Romance Series, healed a part of me I did not yet know existed. An inner child I thought was made up. And after reading this tale I feel more of a new person, a healed person, and as though I’m ready to take on the world simply for being enough. A concept so foreign I thought of it as merely myth.
In “Falling in Love with my Chihuahua Shifter” we meet Brittany, a young girl living a world not met for her, and her journey in discovering her true home. Learning how to not only love herself, others, but letting others love her as well. While also touching on more darker and complicated topics such as a loving family who’s love can feel, for lack of better words, conditional.
If you are looking for a nice cozy read, or have ever felt like you were lost in a fog with no out, or in need of a home; look no further. As long as you need, stop, and take a moment. Get lost within the pages and welcome yourself home.
I cannot wait for the next book of this wonderful and delightful series, and I hope to see you in the reviews of the next one.
I didn’t love this one as much as the first one, but it is needed to make the connections between book 1 and book 3, which I am really looking forward to reading
I think this one just hit differently because the struggle of feeling like one is “not enough” was shared between both main characters and they have to learn their own value while also encouraging the other one to see their own. And honestly, this might’ve been a struggle because it hits all too close to home for me.
Still a four star because it is amazing how cozy and romantic and paranormal this book is while also being so philosophically deep and hitting on some real mental health issues and fleshing out what insecurities can look like and how they can often play off of each other in a relationship.
I was sad not to get an epic “i quit” from her job after we spent so much of the first quarter of the book dealing with the redundant excel spreadsheet/email/office issues she dealt with at work.
The solution at the ending was not at all what I was expecting even though there were certainly hints throughout the book after it was realized and I thought back.
It was also super fun to see Zylus and Willow interacting from an outside perspective in this book
Okay, it’s more of a 4.5 stars than a 5 here… I’ve demoted half a star for just how crippling Ollie’s self-doubts are.
Cruel? Yeah, but then I’ve been there for a massive chunk of my life… well, more like Brittny, but still a lot like Ollie. What the heck, I’m a hybrid mush mash they could have adopted, but whatever. That doesn’t change just how much I loved this book.
It’s harder to call this one a comedy though, even though many comedic and lighthearted moments abound, because darkness of the soul abounds here as well. We have two adorable fated mates here who are trapped by their own lack of worth and how they can possibly be enough for one another.
And bonus points for an equally broken sister in Alana, who I picture look just like my younger sister. Yeah, that’s a heartstring tug I wasn’t looking for. I’m just thrilled we are getting more Alana in the next book.
And that final sentence to the book?????
Holy *curses*
How can I not zip through this review in order to dive headlong into book 3 now that the cat is metaphorically out of the bag?
Come on and join me- the faerie side definitely has cookies… and donuts… and pie. Besides, how can you possibly go wrong with an author so adorable her own characters read her books?
Camilla has hit the jackpot again with another brilliant paranormal romance.
I think Ollie is my new snuggle bunny. I mean a guy who can change into a chihuahua is pretty cute already but in human form, he is the cutest, most vulnerable, sweetest cinnamon roll I have ever read. And I will personally destroy his brothers if I ever meet them (because of course this is all real and not total fiction or imaginary, right?) Ollie's low self-esteem and insecurities make him more relatable than your average hero and Britny's love for him was so strong she was prepared to give up humanity for him.
Speaking of Britny, I adore her relationship with her sister Alana, and our heroine from the first book of this series Willow. Two very different people but both have such a positive influence on Britny and embrace her relationship with Ollie so quickly, even before Ollie himself will admit to it.
If I have any criticism, and it is only minor, is that I would have liked more of the confrontation between Ollie and his brothers. Considering how mean they were to him, I felt he deserved more of a chance to shine against them.
I love Camilla’s books and have read quite a few of them. These books are very not normal (just like the title state’s) and you are going to either love it, or be weirded out because of all of the craziness going on. Personally I love the crazy weirdness of Camilla and love to see the special that each of her books hold.
Brittany is an odd duck. I don’t want to give anything away, but you will see why I say that when you read the book. She just doesn’t quite fit in (and you will find out why later). Let’s just say everything is hard, work is hard, parents are hard, friends, relationships…. etc.
Doliver is another strange dude, who just wants to be loved for who he is. His story is a bit tragic and I really felt for the guy. He also has a very tender heart and isn’t afraid to show it to those who he loves. Although this series isn’y my absolute favorites of Camilla’s (The How To Series is my favorite) it is still really awesome! I am excited to read Cael and Pollux books!!!
*I received a copy of this book as an ARC reviewer, but a positive review wasn’t required. All thoughts are solely what I personally thought of this beautiful book.
“It’s… nice. To not eat crazy cake alone.” -Brittny
Falling In Love With My Chihuahua Shifter was an easy 5 star read for me! This book had me laughing, crying, gasping, and rolling my eyes from start to finish! I felt consumed by the world that was created in the pages and I loved every second of the journey of growth I took right along side the main characters. Filled with so many amazing tid bits of wisdom, I found myself going highlighter crazy, but you can’t blame a girl… With so much love spewing from all the found family throughout the pages I’m surprised I didn’t highlight more!
Falling In Love With My Chihuahua Shifter definitely holds its own, however, I highly recommend giving the entire That’s (Para)Normal series a read for maximum cozy, magical submersion. I am truly in awe of how Camilla has created so many full, relatable, and real characters in this series, considering most of them are Fae!
Now if anyone needs me, I’ll be busy packing my bags for my move to Faerie while simultaneously reading the next That’s (Para)Normal book!
I really love this author and feel that you need to read her other books before trying this one as you need to get a feel of her writing before trying the paranormal romances. With that said, I had a harder time getting into this book than her previous books and the other books in this series. This series is strange but endearing and I really enjoyed “Falling in love with my vampire cat” so I thought I’d love this one. I did enjoy it but it just wasn’t my favorite. If you love anime you will love this book but I just felt it leaned to heavily on other parts of the story than on the actual romance between Oliver and Brittny. I also wish the climax was a bit more intense but I loved the ending and am so excited for the next book in the series. Overall I’d recommend this book as it’s imperative for the series and the author did a great job moving the story along.
Thank you for the advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I was laughing so much during the first 30% of the book, it felt witty and entertaining. Of course, parts were serious and some aspects of the novel really honed in to my own personal challenges. It was also really nice to further explore the world building of the fae.
Sadly this book fell short of my expectations, I felt like Ollie’s insecurities took up a lot of the story and whilst delving into one’s troubles is incredibly important it was hard not to feel emotionally drained by the end of most chapters. I had to remind myself that this is a romance novel. I would have loved more happier moments between the two that stayed happy. It’s a shame as I loveddddd the first book - the slow burn nature felt so right and made sense but sadly the pace of this story didn’t quite work out as well.
I do thank the author for providing me with this ARC. All thoughts are my own.
I’ve come to expect with Evergreen’s books (and this series in particular so far) that there will be a lot to unpack behind the whimsical, make-you-giggle-a-little-bit titles. And this one certainly delivers.
Ollie is just the most adorable little chihuahua…who also wants nothing more than to be valued for who he is. I laughed out loud at some of the predicaments he got himself into, especially the photoshoots.
And Brittny. Sweet Brittny who will bend over backwards to make other people happy while completely ignoring her own wants. I wanted to shout at her sometimes…but probably because I related just a little too much.
I loved that they developed a friendship first before jumping into a romance. Their relationship was sweet and adorable and just the right amount of awkward at times. And the ending. I was so glad to see Ollie finally come into his own.
I can’t wait for book three!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I just now got to reading this, and it was weird. But I freaking loved it!! I don't typically read paranormal romance, because it's really weird. But I love Camilla Evergreen's writing and stories. Her characters are always so RELATABLE! So, basically in a short summary Dolliver the Russian fae pretending to be a Chihuahua for a year because he found his mate and being a Chihuahua made her happy. He was also writing love songs about her on the ✨ Internet ✨ Like what? I'm in love! I really hope my dog is secretly Walker Scobell... Let's just say I am so excited for the next book!! And I'm pretty sure Pollux is getting one soon too! Grumpy Faerie Single Dad? Yes please.
Overall: 4.2 Age Suggestion: 14+ Side Notes: I have read all Camilla Evergreen Books 🥳
Oh, Ollie. Okay, first I must preface that this book holds a special place in my heart because I have a Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix that is tan and white and is named Oliver.
However, that being said - I loved this book and I loved the connections between the characters. I loved seeing a different side of the characters from Falling In Love With My Vampire Cat.
This was a sweet, paranormal, romantic comedy with high levels of learning to love yourself and know your worth.
I would have paid to have seen the final fight scene rewritten with Brittny taking revenge on Ollie’s brothers. Does that make me dark? Maybe. But it is what it is.
This book beautifully sets up for the next one, Falling In Love With The Moth Faerie Prince and I can’t wait to read it - especially with the plot twists she left dangling for us.
This story is wonderful, as is expected of any book written by Camilla. It perfectly captures the warmth and ease of spirit brought about by the miracle that is love: being fully seen by your significant other and yet also fully loved. I will admit to getting slightly bogged down by the amount of insecure, paralyzing, I’m-not-good-enough thinking in the book. Considering that’s kind of the point of the story, though, it makes sense. I just personally prefer the plot to be slightly more action-driven. This book was still a delight to read, though! I particularly loved the descriptions of Faerie. Getting to choose my work on a daily whim and then curling up for a random nap inside of a flower when I’m done people-ing sounds blissful!
After falling in love with Willow's story, I could not wait to start Brittny's!! First of all I don't think I have ever met an author who can handle whimsy, sweet, angsty and the paranormal all in one, but Camilla can! Meet Brittny, she is like so many of us who question their value based on the perceptions of others. She is such a sweetheart and was the perfect person to find a little stray chihuahua in the woods. Ollie, if there was ever a person you wanted to grab by the ear and shove enough love in their brain so the can finally see themselves rightly, it would be him. The journey they take together along with their friends will bring a few tears but even more smiles!
I received an eARC from the author, all opinions are my own.
I love Camilla Evergreen’s How To series, and I enjoyed the Could Have Been series too, I’m realizing that this series just isn’t for me. I love her zany heroines and the men who tend to fall first and so dedicatedly. With this series, both of the female leads so far have been so lacking in confidence and ability to function in human society that it’s been hard to be inside their head for me. It was doubly hard in this book since Olly who seemed so confident from the outside is also a big ball of self-doubt and loathing. I love the parody of paranormal tropes. My favorite scenes were seeing Willow and Zy from an outside perspective, and meeting Olly’s brothers. That was awesome!
