The Octonauts are out on the reef when a scary whitetip shark attacks the GUP-A! A tiny pilot fish offers to lend a fin, giving Barnacles a brilliant idea. Pilot fish get their food by eating gunk off of things. Whitetip shark offer pilot fish protection in return for cleaning their teeth. Maybe what this whitetip shark needs is a friend. Octonauts, let's do this!
MEOMI is Vicki Wong and Michael Murphy. Vicki and Michael both write and illustrate the Octonauts books - although people tend to assume Vicki is the writer and Michael is the illustrator - this might be because of Michael's wavey hair.
Meomi enjoys spending their time making up silly stories, drinking tea, and drawing strange characters.
Meomi's artwork has been featured in numerous illustration and design books, while their art has appeared on a wide variety of merchandise worldwide. They are the designers of the beloved Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic mascots (Quatchi, Miga, Sumi and Mukmuk), and have created art for such clients as Google, Yo GabbaGabba, Chickadee Magazine, Electronic Arts, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and CBC4Kids.
Octonauts is one of our new favorite shows (thanks to the hubby for finding it on Netflix for our son!) When I happened to see "based on the books..." in the opening credits one day, I had to check out everything the library has available! It seems that some of the books were original (prior to tv), and some came after the show and are based on specific episodes - and I think this is one of the latter. It follows the White Tip Shark episode to a T but it was still fun to read. One bonus was the added information about white tip sharks and pilot fish at the end - they were able to include much more here than in the brief "Creature Report" section of the show!
