About the author

Helen Peters is the author of The Secret Hen House Theatre. She grew up on an old-fashioned farm in Sussex, surrounded by family, animals and mud. She spent most of her childhood reading stories and putting on plays in a tumbledown shed that she and her friends turned into a theatre. After university, she realised that she needed to find a job where someone would pay her to read stories and put on plays (though maybe not in a tumbledown shed) and so she became an English and Drama teacher. Several years later, finding herself as a stay-at-home mother of two, she decided to have a go at writing the sort of book she’d so enjoyed as a child. Helen lives with her husband and children in London, and she can still hardly believe that she now gets to call herself a writer.

An Owl called star is another amazing addition to the Jasmine Green Rescue Series!
In thus book Jasmine and her best friend Tom find and rescue a barn owl who has become dehydrated after flying into a window.
This series just gets better and better. Not only does each book offer a delightful story but it teaches children information about animals, caring for them, how to handle them and much more.
This book was also very comical especially with the armdfition of Biscuit the hamster Jasmine looks after for her friend from school whilst they go away (and who escapes from her cage!).
This series is such a delight to read and both my 8 year old and myself really enjoy sharing these together!

In this book Jasmine and Tom plan a secret Halloween party in a deserted barn near Jasmine's family's farm. However when they find a barn owl injured there, they take the owl to her parents who among with them help to feed and nurse it back to health.



However with a secret Halloween party and looking after a friends hamster as well as the owl, will everything go to plan?



I enjoyed the uniqueness of this story as saving an owl would be a rare opportunity, also for showing the danger they can pose to other animals and creatures too. I liked the seriousness of the story but also the fun childlike aspect of planning a secret party it provides a good contrast showing how mature the duo are and aren't in their ways and quite relatable that way too!

Moje drugie spotkanie z Dębową Farmą wypadło - jak się spodziewałam - uroczo. Jest to seria książeczek dla dzieci, gdzie każdy tom przybliża życie innego zwierzęcia. Tym razem pod lupę bierzemy SOWĘ.
Jasmine i jej przyjaciel Tom znajdują sowę płomykówkę, która na skutek zderzenia z szybą w starej stodole jest nieprzytomna. Dzieci zabierają ją do domu Jasmine, bo mama dziewczynki jest weterynarzem. Tak zaczyna się pełna ciepła, sytuacyjnych gagów i mądrych rad opowieść o Gwieździe.
Mamy też wątek zbliżającego się Halloween i pewnej TAJNEJ IMPREZY, z której wynikną duże problemy dla naszych bohaterów. Będzie też Herbatnik - chomik, który zdecydowanie nie chce paść ofiarą sowy.
Już czytając "Wydrę zwaną Kamyczkiem" zrozumiałam, że to bardzo miła seria. Jest napisana prostym stylem, ale to tutaj się sprawdza. Nie są też to jakieś wymyślne przygody, akcja jest budowana w sposób spójny, lecz bez większych zaskoczeń - ale to też nic, bo w tej serii najcenniejszy jest walor edukacyjny.
Dziecko dowiaduje się naprawdę wiele o SOWACH, ich zwyczajach i zaczyna rozumieć świat tych pięknych drapieżników. Uważam, że to idealna seria dla tych, którzy kochają zwierzęta, jest to też świetna zachęta do zgłębiania wiedzy i poszczególnych gatunkach. Myślę, że ta seria może sprawić, że wsze dzieci będą chciały zostać weterynarzami - moim zdaniem, to świetna kariera.
Nie mogę zapomnieć o ilustracjach, które choć nie wybitne, to wzbudzają w człowieku jakąś nostalgię, sentyment. Wydanie kojarzy mi się z czymś słodkim, z czymś kochanym i lubianym. Książeczki te są tanie i warto w nie zainwestować.
