Ellie Bennett is fine. After years of hard work, her bakery is thriving. It has ruined her social life, but she still has her friends to support her. Technically, her friends are also her brothers, but that’s fine. Would she like to speak to a man she isn’t related to from time to time? Maybe go on a date for the first time in over five years? Of course, she would, but it’s fine. She’s fine.
Samuel Everett Kingston II is not fine. His life is a mess of public breakups, nosey paparazzi, and drunken bar fights. He’s tired of being the “bad boy of baseball,” of having the media twist everything in his life until it’s something awful. He just wants something that’s his. Something normal.
They’re running out of time before Spring Training starts, but with the help of a three-step plan, a broken foot, and one massive bed, Ellie and “King” might find what they’ve been looking for.
This was so freakin cute!! Short, sweet, to the point, spicy and swoony 🥰
King is the starting pitcher for the MLB with a terrible reputation. He gets into bar fights, he breaks girls hearts and always has negative media attention. After his most recent bar fight, he stumbles into a bakery across the street from his house in the early morning hours where the owner, Ellie helps bandage him up & sends him on his way. The owner of his team tells him to stay away from women and out of the media or he’ll get benched for the season, but he can’t get the cute little bakery owner out of his head.
So many good tropes here - sports (pro baseball), celebrity/normal person, forced proximity, strangers to friends to lovers, one bed 😮💨, roommates, caretaking. King is such a cinnamon roll and is so sweet to Ellie. They both fall fast but it’s a slow burn since they don’t want to get in trouble with his team so they hide their true feelings. My only thing is I wish we saw them spend more time together to really feel the chemistry, it was very fast paced!
This was a great start and is gonna be such a fun series - I’m already excited for Miller’s book and to see all of the other side characters again!! 🫶🏻
A big thank you to Suzanna Manship for allowing me to beta read Hey Batter Batter!
Sam "King" is a star baseball pitcher who's known for his antics and always ending up in the papers and tabloids. Ellie is a baker who coincidentally lives across the street from Sam in a loft above her bakery. They meet after one of Sam's late night altercations at a bar and he needs to avoid the paparazzi that's waiting by the front door of his building. He dips into the only open store on the street that just happens to be Ellie's bakery which is not technically open to the public in the middle of the night. She patches him up and sends him on his way. In an unfortunate but fortunate series of events, Ellie breaks her foot upon seeing Sam again a few days later. When he realizes that she lives above the bakery and can't access it with the boot for her broken foot, he saves the day by offering his home to her. Little does she know, it's a spacious studio apartment with one bed and an uncomfortable couch.
I absolutely love the way Suzanna writes her characters - they're all so sweet! Sam exudes golden retriever energy especially while he's helping Ellie heal. The side characters in this book are so much fun & I can't wait to see what happens with them in future books - especially Miller!
I'm so excited to see the final product of this book when it releases on March 29th!
From the beginning to middle to end. It was just so good!!
Sam “King” is a professional baseball player who has a playboy/bad boy rep. Even though he really isn’t and just the paparazzi catch him at the worse time and ladies use him for fame.
After sticking up for a woman at a bar, him and his best friend, Miller, get into a bar fight. After escaping before the cops show up, Sam walks home. He finds paps in front of his home so he goes to the building across the street with lights on. A bakery. At 3am. 😂
Ellie has insomnia so she decides to go down to the bakery. (She lives in the loft in the attic.) She hears the bells ring, thinking it’s her brother she goes to see him. She finds Sam all bloody, due to the fight. She isn’t scared but helps cleans him up. Once he’s clean he leaves because he’s scared of the strong attraction pull.
The next day, he shows back up and offers to help in the bakery. After clean up she smashes her foot into the corner of the cabinets and breaks her foot. Sam offers to take her to get it checked out. He also offers a temporary home since she can’t climb the ladder to her loft.
Over the course of forced proximity, they have a pull of attraction to each other. Sam is threaten by his coach to stay out of any negative press, including woman, and Ellie overheard him talking about it to Miller. She stays clear as much as possible.

Tropes: Forced Proximity Forbidden Romance Found Family Celebrity-Athlete/Baker
Suzanna does it again! I was so excited to see that her next book would be a baseball romance. I adored Ellie and Sam so much. I don't know what it is about books where the fmc is a baker and she lures beautiful men into her bakery thar gets me going. Suzanna really set up this world of the Cougars so well. From the baseball team to Eliie brothers and then Callum, at the end, I will be loving this series no matter where she takes it. The spicy scenes were so good as usual for Suzanna. I loved the families made and born into. I love this forced proximity one bed troupe as well. It definitely was perfect that he got a clean slate with 6 she had no idea who he was other than a hot man entering her bakery at night. Loved it!
King is a professional baseball pitcher, and Ellie owns the bakery across the street from his apartment. They meet when he stumbles into her bakery trying to hide from paparazzi. She doesn’t know who or how famous he is, which he finds refreshing. He’s trying to stay out of the spotlight, so he doesn’t get benched and miss games.
This has forced proximity, one bed, strangers to friends to lovers, sports romance (obv), and he takes care of her. All of this together was so good! If you need a quick and cute read this is a good book to read.
I’m obsessed. First of all, a sports book that doesn’t have the main focus being that sport but it being more of a nuisance to their relationship is… genius. The immediate attraction between Ellie and Sam is so cute! Hunting at her being plus size, but not making it her entire personality is so appreciated. Sam and Miller’s relationship was excellent - and totally made me emotional at times. It’s a fast moving book and a refreshing read! Very well written and the time jumps were really well done, using the sport and his traveling for those was great. Ugh Sam is top tier book friend material in my opinion. And I absolutely LOVED that the Forest Falls boys make an appearance in this book too!!
This book was so cute and I loved the premise of it and of course the spice.
King is a professional baseball player who has been portrayed by the media as a bit of a bad boy. Between the tell alls from women he’s been with and bar fights he’s in, his reputation has taken a hit. One of his bar fights leads him to a bakery in order to avoid being spotted by paparazzi. The bakery, located across the street from King’s apartment, is owned by Ellie. Ellie cleans King up from his fight and then he leaves. His coach and higher ups on his team hear about yet another bar fight and tell him he and his best friend/teammate Miller will be benched for the season unless he stops with all the women and fighting and stays out of the media. King decides to take this seriously but he cannot stop thinking about Ellie.
Ellie lives in the attic above her bakery, which she accesses by climbing a ladder. During her second time meeting King, she ends up breaking her foot. King offers for her to live with him because it would be difficult to climb a ladder with a broken foot. She accepts and moves into his studio apartment that only has one bed.
Overall the story was fun to read and I loved the banter between King and Ellie. I also loved every time he called her sweetheart and how protective he was of her and how he took care of her. Ellie is very much a do everything yourself type person who struggles to accept help, but King forces her to accept his. Because of this, one of my favorite scenes is her dad’s birthday party.
I really just wish it was longer and we could see them interact more. It felt like it ended so quick. I already can’t wait to read the next one!
Thank you Suzanna Manship for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This is a tricky review as I loved the writing style, humour and characterisations. I liked the characters individually and the banter was perfection.
But although I felt the chemistry early on, it sort of dwindled a bit for me. It seemed unrealistic for the h to move in with the H the way she did as she had plenty of other options in that scenario - namely a large, supportive, local family. Obviously I appreciate it was a plot device but that kind of killed it for me as they quickly moved onto the “only one bed trope” and after the cringy “just bought a new vibrator which won’t switch off” scene which you could see coming from a mile away (and didn’t she just have an whoops scene with him finding her original vibrator in her loft apartment??) I was pretty much done. I reached 50% then ended up skimming to the end as sadly, I’d lost interest.
I would say though that I’m a big fan of the author’s debut book (Off The Market) and would definitely like to read the next book in this series - hoping it’s a case of this one just didn’t work for me but the next one will hit the mark.
This CUTE ASS BOOK!!!! I wanna pinch its cheeks. Ellie and Sam are so damn cute. I had big smiles and just all warm feelings throughout reading this book. Sam King. A professional baseball player, popular, handsome and seems to get into quite the issues in the public eye. He’s on thin ice with the team. No more problems or he’s going to suffer the consequences. He finds himself unexpectedly in a bakery one day, Ellie's bakery, Ellie, aloof, sweet, also, totally unaware of who he is.
While he can't really be dating right now, he is finding himself wanting to be everything with Ellie. Why? How? What is happening? LOL, this guy falls so head over heels for his girl, the inner dialogue, their unspoken awkwardness, his need and want to be around her and protectiveness of her, their building friendship, their CHEMISTRY!!!! Spicy, sexy, sweet, a bit of a slow burn, one bed scenario, friends to lovers, meet cute, sports romance, somewhat forbidden romance. Her nosey brothers, I absolutely enjoyed these characters, they were so much fun!!! I could totally read this again. I can't wait for his bff/teammates book and hopefully her brothers books(*fingers crossed)!!!
I LOVE SAM AND ELLIE SO MUCH. Holy crap. I read this in a day because I just couldn’t put it down. It was a quick read, and the ending came a little too quick! I mostly just want MORE of the two of them because I love them.
The way they were in so deep so fast! They met in the silliest way?? And then he couldn’t get her out of his head and then asked, well demanded, she move in with him. It was a wild ride and I loved every single second!
The way Sam instantly started taking care of Ellie made my heart SWELL. He was exactly what she needed and the fact that she let him do it for her. Ugh they were so sweet. Two sweet sunshine people falling in love is amazing.
And there was still enough tension before they got together, and some conflict with all of his baseball stuff so it wasn’t completely easy!
I’m going to read Suzanna’s other book ASAP. And I cannot WAIT for whatever else she ever decided to writes. I’ll read it all!
Thank you SO MUCH to Suzanna Manship for this ARC I exchange for an honest review! This is one I’m going to buy for sure!
This was a super quick read for me. By the Nick Miller reference in the dedication, I knew it was going to be a good read.
The chemistry between Sam and Ellie is undeniable, even when they both don't want to admit it to each other and risk their friendship and professional lives.
Sam is a professional baseball player and ends up in Ellie's bakery early one morning with a busted eyebrow and she fixes him up. He goes back a few days later and helps her in her bakery for the day. She ends up breaking a toe and he says she can stay with him while her foot heals since he lives right across the street and she can't climb the ladder to her place above the bakery.
What happens next is a slow burn relationship while they battle with themselves, their jobs, family and friends.
Hey, Batter Batter is a cute love story that keeps you on the edge of your seat while you root for Sam and Ellie.
Recommend if you're looking for a slow burn, baseball romance!
this one didn’t click with me I’m afraid. I found it quite boring - as much as I appreciate the mundane in a romance book, I didn’t vibe with this. It’s described as a slow burn and while they don’t actually do anything until the second half of the book they like eachother SO early on, and he says he loves her (in his inner monologue) way too soon. It was a bit lusty at first sight but I found it annoying rather than angsty. All I wanted was for him to play baseball, and by the time she actually goes to watch him the book is basically over. I did think a lot of the plot points were really fun and Miller was a fun side character, and the dynamic with (most of) her brothers was super wholesome.
I read Suzanna’s fist book and fell I love with the writing style the characters and everything about the book. Hey, Batter Batter is no different. From the first chapter I was pulled in and could not stop. King (Sam) the star pitcher who is a PR nightmare and Ellie the clumsy baker are the main characters in this sport romance. After meeting by chance and an unlucky accident they find them selves in a situation neither saw coming. If you enjoy a sassy independent girl and a lovable golden retriever boy this is it. I am so excited for the next book to come out!

LOVED this story so much! When I read that the FMC was a curvy girl I was completely sold. This book had me swooning, laughing, crying, nervous… You name the emotion and I went through it. Suzanna’s writing style makes it hard to put the book down because everything flows so well and keeps you on the edge of your seat anticipating what will happen next. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series! Miller is so funny and I’m so interested to see where and who he will end up with. Elliot is my favorite though. HILARIOUS! I’m crossing my fingers for Elliot and Grady to get together at some point. Elliot deserves the best and I feel like Grady could be that for him 😂♥️
Such a sweet and funny (seriously, so funny) read. The sexual tension and the banter between Ellie and Sam is elite. Ellie is an independent and strong woman who doesn’t even recognize the famous ball player Sam when he first stumbles into her bakery. Sam has let the fame and lifestyle take too much precedence over his life. Ironically, he almost loses his first love (baseball) because of it and that’s the driving force behind his main plot line. But he ends up finding real love with Ellie. I gobbled this one up for the most part in 24 hours. Definitely recommend! Can’t wait for the rest of the series with these other characters that I already love!
This book was so sweet and cute. When King stumbles into Ellie's bakery in the middle of the night bleeding, she immediately jumps into action to clean him up. As it turns out, he lives close to the bakery and can't get her out of his mind so he stops back by. These two were the cutest friends to lovers always worrying about the other one and the ramifications of anything beyond friendship. I loved how King showed Ellie how much he cared for her and he took care of her when she needed it. When they finally did move from friends to a relationship, it was deliciously sexy, while still being sweet and authentic to who these two were.
Hey Batter Batter follows our two main characters Sam “king” and Ellie. Sam plays for the Cadence Cougars and is a PR nightmare and Ellie owns and operates a bakery. (She’s a girl after my own heart) I quickly fell in love with them and their story. The banter between these two & the internal monologues had me dying!! If you love forced proximity & one bed tropes then you need to check this out because I promise it’s so good and the best part is ITS PUB DAY! Thank you Suzanna for the ARC! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
It took me a second to yet over the fact that the text was a bit bigger than most of the books I read but AAHHH this was so cute. I caught myself smiling at Ellie and Sam's banter.. the fact that another character literally pointed out that Ellie's life was basically a Romcom... aahhh. This was such a feel good book.
POTENTIAL SPOILER:
However, I will say I wish that there was some explanation on who leaked the first article (nor sure if this is a spoiler so im going to mark it as such). But honestly..no complaints here.

It's an average romance book. The story could have turned much better with good writing and pacing. The spice was spice-less. It felt like the spice was added just because spice should be in a romance book. The chemistry between the characters was very well in the first 150 pages but the real s*x scene felt mechanical or rather repetitive (like I have read this basic s*x scene in many books). The ending was rushed without any climax scene. By the end, it felt like the author just gave up and rushed to complete the book. I mean Ellie didn't even get a good proposal scene in the end.

Themes/tropes: Sports romance (baseball), friends to lovers, one bed, strong family and friend elements
Review: A quick, lighthearted sports romance. Everything about this book was just okay. I really enjoyed the interactions between Sam and Ellie’s brothers. I liked the close relationship that Sam had with Miller. My major issue with this book was the immature characters and how instalove it was. Sam’s behaviour and attitude didn’t reflect what I expected for a 32 year old. The ending also felt rushed and choppy.
This book is really cute. It is short and a quick read. That being said, you still get a good love story with plenty of spice and a nice HEA. I like that while there was conflict, there was no ridiculous BS third act breakup. My only criticism is that I would’ve loved a more detailed epilogue. If you’re looking a lighthearted romance that is easy to read and to the point, give this a try. Sam & Ellie ❤️
I loved everything about this book. It was romantic and sexy, Sam and Ellie were perfection together. One of my biggest pet peeves with some books is the overly dramatic turn of events (mostly due to miscommunication) that makes the couple break up, BUT that does NOT happen here and I honestly love that!!! It’s a simple relationship, with minor and normal mishaps and that made it so much more better. Highly recommend!

I loved it! It’s short and cute and keeps you hooked! I finished it in a day 🫣 super cute characters, Ellie is a baker that is so wrapped up in her life she doesn’t know what goes on with much; king is famous and hot and he knows it! The characters get together quick and it just gets better from there! I wish the last 2 chapters were a little longer but that’s just me! It was wrapped up very nicely with a happy ending!
I was so hyped for this book, I really was. It just didn’t deliver for me. I loved the characters and storyline, I just feel like the things that happened were rushed, or not explained through well. There were many jumps in time that were just ignored or overlooked, not even addressed. I also have a hard time seeing how the FMC can move in with the MMC so fast, no questions asked. Like I get it, but it still feels incomplete, or that things are missing to me. I would still recommend this book, and I’ll definitely try the next book coming out.
It’s been almost a year since I’ve read a light/fluffy romcom and Hey Batter Batter did NOT disappoint. The way I cackled at the banter between Ellie & Sam…the sarcasm and their inner monologues had me rolling! Ellie & Sam are so sweet and this was definitely the perfect palette cleanser!!
I’m not usually one for insta-love but Holy Acts of Service, Batman! Sign me up. Very well paced! The perfect combo of sweet and spicy - a quick and lovely read with a great cast of characters. Looking forward to reading the whole series!
I liked that this had some actual baseball in it, and it was good but I’d rank millers story above this one. Time will tell on the final book on this series (yeah totally read them out of order…)
