It's been a while since I've read Warren but as I read Game On I remembered why I enjoy her so much. Her books are so fun and sexy. I always like the characters and enjoy the writing. I knew right away when Adam, Dylan & Max made their bet to never marry the fun was going to begin. I was right.

I think you'll love both Adam and Serena. He might not be happy to have to work with her but she's good for him in many ways. She helps him and in turn he helps her. Of course she helps him as performance coach but he ends up helping her as a detective

Not only will you enjoy the humor and romance in the story but the little mystery will keep you reading. This is the perfect quick & easy read for a Sunday afternoon. Now I have to try and get to the other two books in series. I'm pretty sure they are going to be good too!

I hate to say that I really didn't enjoy one of Nancy Warren's Blaze novels... I was expecting more hockey, more blaze and a lot less intrigue. The story itself was fine, but it really really focused in on Serena's stalker - not a typical Blaze at all - and I found myself pushing through just to be done with it (for the record, I don't read HQN's Intrigue line at all).

B785 Feb14 Last Bachelor Standing #1. Detective Adam Shawnigan's friend Max Varo, gets Serena Long to help Adam with his problem of "choaking" during their hockey playoff games. He's there with Max when Serena discovers a note left by a hacker. I like mysteries and this was a good one, with romance mixed in!

It's an easy read for weekend. A lot of romance and (that surprised me) a spy story. I like the detective story line. It has an intrigue to the last page who was that psycho. So, i could sum it up like original love story with a lot of spicy love scenes...

Dylan, Max and Adam have been best of friends since forever. A cop, a fireman and an internet mogul. And now they have made a bet, never to marry. Adam’s mother is very disappointed as she hears that, she wants her son to be happy, and she wants grandchildren1

Adam is a police detective, following in his father’s footsteps, even though he never got promoted beyond a beat cop. He and his friends play an awesome game of ice hockey, but every time they hit the play-offs, Adam is off his game. And Max and Dylan are determined to find out why. So Max asks his good friend Serena Long, a famous performance coach, to work with Adam and find out what is wrong, and improve his game.
Adam is furious with his friends, he doesn’t need a shrink or a performance coach, thank you very much. But from the first moment Adam lays eyes on Serena, he wants her. She reminds him of a dominatrix he once arrested, with her black clothes and her self assured look.
Adam reluctantly agrees to work with her. At first he thinks it a lot of nonsense, especially the homework she assigns him. But he does it anyway, and it really has merit.

And then someone starts stalking Serena, scaring her, and Adam steps in to protect her. Max also owns a security business, and they promise Serena to protect her, day and night, with Adam covering the night part.
But Serena really hates to be shadowed everywhere she goes, someone watching her all the time, and Adam certainly is very over protective. Serena is a self made woman; she has built her own very successful business from the ground up, and has some very important clients. She has more business than she can handle. And now her very capable assistant wants to become a partner.

I loved the hot romance part of this story, but the mystery part is even better, as Nancy Warren very cleverly pointed my attention in the wrong direction the whole time. When Serena got taken by her stalker, that was a scary part, as the guy is a real nutjob and has planned it all very well. Adam is there just in time though … as he did not tell Serena how much she was looked after … even though she kicked him out of her apartment.

Nancy Warren has written a really good story, with very life like and likeable characters. It was a surprise when Adam found out what was holding him back, and how he dealt with it. I liked this book very much, and I will read the next book in this series very soon. I like her writing style and her sense of humor. It fits me perfectly.

Recommended reading if you are in the mood for a fun and relaxing in-between book for your paranormals.

8 stars.

Game on by Nancy Warren is a great start to the Last Bachelor Standing series. A hot sexy romance filled with suspense and well hockey.
Detective Adam Shawnigan has a great life. Two awesome friends that he's known since childhood and a wonderful mom and dad. All he wants is to not choke on his game during the hockey championship.
Along comes Serena Long, a performance coach determined to help Adam realize his goal. Things get complicated when Serena discovers she has a psycho stalking her and Adam jumps in to protect her.
What worked for me was the dynamic between the three best friends: Max, Dylan and Adam. They have the kind of friendship where they will drop anything to help each other out. The trio are so close they might as well be brothers. I love to see friendships like that represented in a story.
Also the chemistry between Adam and Serena is off the charts. This is not an insta-love story though. These two have to struggle through some obstacles like the psycho stalker trying to scare and kill Serena.
There are some plot twists in this story too. I completely was caught off guard on who the stalker was. Just when I thought I'd figured it out something happened to change everything.
What didn't work for me was the timing of the first sex scene. It was after a pivotal moment, which is fine I get the whole wanting to confirm being alive reaction. The major ick factor for me was the location of it. Personally, I would have liked to see them go to a different location or even just a different room.
Also I would have like to see a bit more conflict in the end before they captured the stalker. I think it wrapped up a bit too neatly almost like it was rushed at the end.
All in all Game On is a fairly interesting, and fast read. If you love romances with hockey, or cops, or a little suspense in them then this is a book you should read.

Game On by Nancy Warren
Last Bachelor Standing Series Book 1
Detective Adam Shawnigan has a pretty good life. Two lifetime friends who would do anything for him, a June Cleaver type mom and a great dad, what more could he want? His mom would say a wife, but he just made a bet with his friends to see which one of them could hold out as a bachelor the longest. What he could use was to win the hockey championship. And Max thinks a friend of his is just what Adam needs.

Serena Long has come a long way from her poor and embarrassing roots. She is a performance coach, helping people believe they can anything they set their mind to. Like her pro-bono case...teaching the big, hot, hunky cop not to crumble under the pressure of a hockey championship game. And then she gets a stalker who seems to want to destroy her confidence. Good thing she has Adam on her team.

This is so much more than a hot steamy romance, although it is that as well, it's also a suspense story with plenty of people who could be guilty. At one point it reminded me of the movie The Bodyguard, where the protection and fear of others escalated Serena's fear to the point of breaking. And then the moment you let you guard down...well, you should never let your guard down is all. This is the first of three books in the series. Looking forward to Max and Dylan's stories in Breakaway and Final Score.

Adam needed a performance coach, oh no he didn't see it that way himself. Lucky for him he had a great friend who only wanted the best for him and talked him into it. But the reluctance he'd shown quickly vanished when he saw his coach, Serena.

Though Serena gladly helped Adam, she had a big problem: she'd gained a stalker. Whose main intent seemed to be to scare the hell out of her. At first she'd decided not to do anything with the threats as she thought they would pass. But as her stalker proved to be persistent she finally confided in Adam. Which infuriated him and caused him to go all cop on her. From that moment on he would do anything in his power to keep Serena safe. Not an easy feat when the two are lusting after each other…makes one miss certain details.

I really liked the concept of the story, it reminded me of an episode of "Criminal Minds". Only the focus in this book lay more on the romance part and the characters weren't as dissected. Another thing I liked was the writing style and the way the story was build up. The suspense was a palpable aspect in this book and as I read further I started to see everyone as a possible suspect. In the end I finally got it and it was totally not the person who I suspected.

Now with one of the Last Bachelor's down in this book, I really want to read how the other two will be brought to their knees.

Detective Adam is having a performance crisis in his life. His performance in hockey tournament have dropped and he doesn’t know the reason. His best friend thinks that he needs help thus, Serena Long’s services as a performance coach was engaged to help him. He resisted her help and it doesn’t help that he is attracted to her from the moment they met. To complicate things even more, Serena discovers that she has been stalked and that the psycho seems to know her move. Adam took it in his strive to protect her.

This book is the first book in the Last Bachelor Standing series where three lifelong friends, Adam, Dylan and Max who made a bet to see which one of them could hold out as a bachelor the longest. Both Adam and Serena had independent streaks and these personality make it difficult for them when they first met but they generally overcome that as their relationship progress. I like the way Adam takes the position as a protector to Serena from the stalker. I like the story plot of this story and the way the story was built up and the suspense which leads me to see everyone as a possible suspect. 

Serena and Adam were great together. He didn't want to work with her to begin with and she didn't put up with his attitude. Both of them had independent streaks, but they were willing to listen to one another. I was actually surprised at how quickly Adam agreed to try Serena's methods. And I was surprised at what actually turned out to be the key to his problems. I also was surprised at how willing was to be in a relationship and fall in love with Serena since he had the ongoing bet with Dylan and Max. I definitely appreciated that he didn't fight the attraction or his feelings once he realized them.

I look forward to reading more from Ms. Warren, especially Dylan and Max's stories.

I picked this book for two reasons the hockey and cops. Two of my favorite things in my romance books. I liked Adam, he was the right amount of alpha and protective male. Serena got on my nerves a bit. I know it would be hard to give up control of your life, but when doing so will save your life....shut up and listen to the experts. The relationship between the two was a believable one and was nice to see the build up. The relationship between Adam, Dylan and Max was one I'd like to read more of, so I guess I'll be checking out the next one in the story.

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC.

This is a great first book in the Last Bachelor Standing series. Nancy Warren has a great premise and I look forward to reading the rest. This book had plenty of romance and passion but it also had a hint of suspense and intrigue. The novel was well plotted and evenly paced. The characters are extremely likeable. I might have liked a little more hockey in the story, but that's a personal note.

i really enjoyed the first chapter and felt that it was an adorable introduction to the series. In general, I liked the book but it won't go down as one of my favourite books ever. The hero was loveable, the heroine not as much but still likeable. It was a good enough book that I'll read the rest of the series. I'm excited for Dylan's story, I'm already half in love with him.

This book was pretty 'meh'. I could take it or leave it. The psycho ex-bang-friends (any woman who knows 'where she stands' in a relationship wont act like a complete psycho/asshole to you when you have a girlfriend) was a little over the top, but whatever. The rest was just kinda predictable.
