Refuting the claim that dispensational thought is a nineteenth century innovation, this book offers a much needed corrective on an age-old misconception. In Discovering Dispensationalism, a dozen leading scholars trace the development of dispensational thought from the world of the New Testament through the present day. Throughout the volume distinct milestones that emerged over two millennia are connected, reflecting what would later become known as dispensationalism. The historical significance of this biblical-theological framework demonstrates that dispensationalism, far from being "dead" or "fallen," continues to shape Christian thought in the twenty-first century.
Dispensational thought ran deep in the early Church
This scholarly work is well-cited and is a must-have for those who have been told that dispensationalism was a recent creation that Darby snuck into Christianity only a few short centuries ago. The book provides a bountiful supply of well-supported claims with citations from the early Fathers and on down through the ages. If anyone wants to claim that dispensational ideas were not present in the early Church, please read this work before making such a silly statement.
This is a newer resource on Dispensationalism. The purpose of the book is to show that Darby did not invent Dispensationalism, but that it was in use from the beginning. It is an academic read, but worth the cost (before financial and time invested in reading.)
