Survivors of trauma often face extreme and overwhelming suffering. Their wounds are so complex―anyone who desires to effectively treat the vast impacts of trauma must offer comprehensive and intentional care.
Darby Strickland helps counselors and helpers to understand trauma and its effects so they can offer compassion and comfort that is both biblical and trauma informed. She presents the foundations of trauma care, so that readers can address the impact of a sufferer’s experience, ensure the safety and stability of the survivor, and build trust with the hurting. These tools will help counselors and helpers to restore a sufferer to flourishing in their love for God and others. In this way, those who counsel trauma sufferers along the perilous journey of recovery can emulate our good and ultimate Guide . . . and learn to trust him for the results.
This is quite a good little book looking at Christians dealing with fellow Christians suffering from trauma. While this little book in no way makes one an expert in such an important area of counselling, it does supply some background info and gives good advice to someone whose friend maybe suffering, or if you are helping your pastor or a counsellor with someone who is suffering.
I appreciated the Biblical approach that was used. The case examples shared were useful.
Of course, my ongoing criticism of short books, is the lack of “For further reading”. I would’ve like to hear about a book or two that the author recommended...
A perfect little book on caring for trauma survivors. I sincerely appreciated this book, and it was beneficial to read about the counseling techniques used for helping someone dealing with trauma. Although this book is for the average layperson, I wish Strickland had gone further into counseling procedures for specific situations and given other books that speak on this subject more. In the end though, it's an excellent book and establishes a basic foundational understanding of trauma and how to help those struggling.
This is a short and thoroughly helpful booklet, which does what it says on the cover. It is useful both for biblical counsellors and for anyone who wants to walk alongside those who have suffered trauma.
