College Football is America's Game. The game has a rich history that is woven together with that of the nation which founded it. From the Civil War to the Steel Towns of the Midwest. From the Dust Bowls of The Great Depression to the battlefields of World War II. From The Civil Rights Movement to Campus Protests. From tragedy to 9/11. Whether you Roll Tide or you OH-IO. Whether you are a Michigan Man or a War Eagle. Whether you do the Gator Chomp or the Seminole Chop. This story is for you because it is our story. The story of College Football is The American Story.
A good look at the early history of college football. The only dissapointing part was it skipped over the 80s and 90s and went straight to 9/11 and the CFP. It also failed to talk about some topics such as the SMU Death Penalty, Miami, the rise of Boise State, USC vs Texas, and also glossed over the LSU-Bama rematch that led to the death of the BCS. I did enjoy the television broadcast history of college football, and the look back at early football. But man, so many missed topics that are super important to college football
I enjoyed the historical information but this really feels like it was written by AI, the way it constantly uses talks about things like "the legacy of (coach's )resiliency, hard work and fair play still has an impact on the athletic spirit of (college) today." Very DESCRIPTIVE at the surface level but not really exploring what any of that means. I understand the book is meant to be a short overview so really just be factual in that case.
I liked the story it told and the historical facts but felt like there was a lot of repetitive writing. Different ways of saying the same thing just to get big words into the sentences.
