Do you believe in love after life?

Looking for a fresh start, Peyton Clark becomes the proud owner of a piece of New Orleans history: an Antebellum-era two-story house in the Garden District. It’s going to take time and a fat wallet to restore the fixer-upper to its former glory, but after her recent divorce, Peyton could use the distraction.

It’s not long before Peyton discovers she’s moved into the haunted home of a flirtatious paranormal prankster. She’s receiving kisses from unseen lips and caresses from a ghostly hand, and soon she begins to have vivid dreams, bringing her face-to-face with the incomparably handsome ghost of Drake Montague.

When Peyton grows closer to her general contractor, Ryan Kelly—who is as charming as he is alive—the chill in the air could only suggest Drake’s jealousy from beyond the grave. But even though she’s definitely attracted to and interested in Ryan, Peyton also can’t get Drake out of her dreams, or her heart, as she begins to uncover the frightening truth behind his death a century ago…

I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.

My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.

Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!

After escaping her domineering husband, Peyton moves into a rundown antebellum home left to her by a distant aunt. Needing to keep herself busy she decides to restore the home to its former glory and manages to get Ryan, a specialist in restoring homes to take on the job.

She soon discovers the home is haunted by Drake, a policeman who died sometime in the early 20th century, and as he visits her in her sleep a story unfolds about a series of brutal murders which terrorised the people of New Orleans in nearly 100 years earlier. And it's possible that Peyton has inadvertently invited the spirit of the murderer into her home.

She finds herself caught between the ghost who is standing between the malevolent spirit that has moved into her home, and the contractor who is still mourning the death of his wife.

Ghouls Rush In is quite a surprising book. It wasn't till page 60 that the ghosts arrived, until then it felt very much like a renovation romance. Even then it seemed liked a fairly cute and harmless ghost story. But at the half way mark it definitely got creepy. There were things going on in this book that had cold shivers running up and down my spine.
It's really very good, and if books about ghosts, spirits and voodoo sound like your thing, this is definitely one of the better ones I've read.

Many thanks to Montlake Romance and Netgalley for providing me with this ARC

I was thinking this was going to be a lot different than it was. The synopsis says "She’s receiving kisses from unseen lips and caresses from a ghostly hand, and soon she begins to have vivid dreams, bringing her face-to-face with the incomparably handsome ghost of Drake Montague." However, I don't remember there being any hanky panky ghost stuff going in. She hears footsteps in her house, and then later has a dream of Drake. Only it's not a dream but a real encounter with Drake. There isn't any romance really between the two of them other than Drake being jealous and Peyton finding him attractive.

However, with that being said, the story itself was entertaining. There's a malevolent spirit who is trying to harm Peyton. Drake is trying to stop it but in the process, the spirit ends up draining Drake in an attempt to kill him. The whole book revolves around Peyton trying to exorcise the malevolent spirit while trying to help Drake.

This was a good story that involved ghosts. There are no vampires, or werewolves. Just good ol' fashioned ghosts. Okay, so maybe there's a warlock and a witch but they are in the story only to help get rid of the malevolent spirit. It's not like they are flying all around the place on broomsticks. I liked that the author didn't try adding too many supernatural beings into one story. She kept it simple.

With that being said, the main characters were not my favorite. Peyton seemed a bit immature for me, considering she was recently divorced. Plus, Ryan just seemed far too scripted to me. He just came off as incredibly fake. I liked the idea of the story but in the end it just wasn't what I thought it would be. There really were no answers to what takes place in the story, just more questions. I get that this is a series but I was hoping for more.

Ghouls Rush In
Peyton Clark, Book 1
By: H. P. Mallory
Narrated by: Kate Rudd

This is a haunted house/romance novel. It takes up to about the 25% range before any haunting comes into play. There is a good ghost and an evil demon. The way to save the good ghost from the evil one is very unusual!
The romance is obvious but there is complications. It's a good read. Enjoyed it but had more romance than I normally read.
The narration was pretty good.

On the same day her divorce is final, Peyton Clark also finds she was left a house following her great aunts passing, so she moves to New Orleans to start a new life. The house is in terrible shape, but she soon convinces her cute neighbor, Ryan, to help her remodel it. When she finds some interesting newspaper articles in the walls, it opens up a connection with a ghost in her house. Unfortunately, she soon has another entity trying to make contact, and it isn't very nice.

This was a cute story. I listened to the audio version and it was narrated well. I expected the story to get right to the ghouls and ghosts part, but it took a while. I was beginning to wonder if I read the title wrong because the story had just set up the romantic plot in the first quarter of the book. Eventually, we got to the haunting. I can't say it was very scary, but it was entertaining. I liked Peyton and Ryan's characters, and I even like Drake even though I thought it weird that he kept trying to seduce Peyton. (He's dead - shouldn't ghosts realize their limitations?)

I love just about EVERYTHING HP writes, even though she utilizes a lot of elements I do not care for (love triangles & instalove) they always seem to work in one fun, hilarious steamy package.

I have always been a huge fan of the Josie & Dulcie Series and when I heard she was starting another series I was very excited to read this book.

I can read the Dulcie Series over and over because I have a huge book crush on Knight. I just think he is sexy as hell and how I envision him... well yeah you get the point

Enter Ryan, the contractor from New Orleans and Knight is a distant memory.

What makes this love interest so damn hot is he is not supernatural in any sense of the word, he is a contractor from New Orleans and very realistic and could be the guy down your street.

Peyton is also believable she is human.

Which is why I think I like this book, for the first time HP has created to non supernatural characters and placed them in a supernatural setting and I love it.

like really love it.

Yes there is a love triangle but to many it adds a lot of fun moments in a very creepy situation.

Yes there is a little creep to this book, which is also a new element that HP is utilizing. The ghost setting gives this book a creepy vibe, and may give you goosebumps but the next page will have you laugh out loud.

The situations were hot especially between Ryan & Peyton. IN fact I can identify with Peyton, we are both 31 and have had similar life experiences AND almost the same personality... seriously if I knew HP I would swear the character is based on me ;)

And Ryan makes a girl want to move to New Orleans... just saying ;)

This is a hilarious, fun light read and I can't wait for book 2!

Once again HP, you have excelled in the supernatural. :)

Having read and loved several of H.P. Mallory's books, this one is right up there with the rest. While H.P.'s previous three series feature paranormal characters, the main characters in Ghouls Rush In are mortal giving a different take on a paranormal romance. Peyton and Ryan (one of my new book boyfriends) are extremely likable characters and I cannot wait to see how their relationship blossoms in book two!

I had already preordered but was blessed to have been approved for an ARC as well. Thank you H.P. and Montlake!! Book two has been preordered!

I really tried to like this book but after 100 pages I couldn't deal with its repetitiveness. The insta-lust wasn't believable and how many times can a girl read the words "he chuckled" before throwing a book across the room?! This book was very similar to her other series and I think I was hoping for something totally different when I picked this up. That being said, if you're looking for a lighter paranormal romance this one just might do the trick. *Full review coming soon*

Well, first time reading anything by this author. Very disappointed. It made me think the writer just wanted to churn a book out quickly and get it over with. Really, the dialogue was very stiff and the author needs a thesaurus. I didn't even make it through the first chapter without getting annoyed by so many "he chuckled". I'm really shocked at the "NY Times Best Seller Author" status. Sorry.

Available to Read and Listen via Kindle Unlimited. Narration is by Kate Rudd, one of my all time favorite narrators so this book was doubly enjoyable for me. The story itself was cute but a little on the lite side. I felt like we really didn't get very far into what was happening and almost all of the real reveals came right at the end in a kind of cliffhanger fashion with the story tbc. I personally was a little confused by the relationships, or lack there of, of the characters. It was a little vague but I'm getting an awkward love triangle thing going on here so I'm sure the vagueness was intentional.

Peyton, our FMC, has just been through a horrid divorce and in the same day received an inheritance from an estranged aunt in the form of an old mansion in the heart of New Orleans. Deciding its time to make it or break it she sets off for the mansion to make a fresh start. Arriving at a spooky, dilapidated, and in badly need of some love mansion puts a bit of a damper on her positive attitude but she is determined not to let it get her down. That is until it rains and the handsome widower next door stops by with his southern charm and neighborly concerns. Ryan, retired contractor and remodeling expert gets pulled out of retirement pretty quick to head off the zillion repairs needed for the house. Ryan and Peyton have a friendly, fun banter that is both cute, a tiny bit awkward and oh so lovable. As the remodel goes on Peyton uncovers a mystery buried in the walls of her home as more and more newspaper clippings tell of an axe murderer plaguing the town in the early 1900s. Not only is she haunted by those pages but a mysterious man, drake, from the pages keeps appearing in her dreams. During your run of the mill seance/Ouija board experience Peyton and Ryan's sister unlock even more mystery and maybe even a demonic presence. Now as the supernatural world runs rampant through Peyton's home she is running against the clock to save the man in her dreams, as well as dealing with the haunted real life Ryan...

Not exactly left on a physical cliffhanger but I did feel like we were Finally getting somewhere when the book came to an end. Though the plot was enjoyable it did seem like we had a lot of down time which made it move a little slow. I am definitely going to need to see where this triangle is headed..

There are times the book ratings on Goodreads just make no sense to me. Kind of like how Goodreads reviewers have cast Zachary Quinto as Will Trent, when the character has blonde hair and blue eyes. (Did you even read the book?!)

In this case, the 3.78 rating defies reason. My experience is that books with a rating in the threes have major flaws and/or are generally not particularly good. But I loved this book! The female lead was affable, the male protagonists appealing and likeable. I enjoyed the story thoroughly and look forward to the remainder of the series.

This is particularly appreciated since I had two consecutive DNFs and had developed a generally chalky taste in my head.

Ghouls Rush In is the first book in a new paranormal mystery/romance series by H.P. Mallory. After reading the publisher’s summary, I was prepared for this book to be just the latest in the recent plethora of supernatural-themed romance novels with little substance and a predictable plot. I’m happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised.

This book introduces Peyton Clark, a recent divorcee whose inheritance of a historic home from a distant relative could not have come at a better time. Peyton, looking for a fresh start, moves to New Orleans to restore an Antebellum home and rebuild her self-confidence. It’s not long before Peyton meets her gorgeous and charming neighbor, Ryan, who she convinces to oversee the renovations to her home. Sparks fly instantly between the two. However, Peyton soon discovers that she is not the only resident of her new home. Before long, she is involved in a very unusual love triangle between the sexy neighbor and her otherworldly roommate, Drake, the ghost of her dreams. Drake’s former life as a turn-of-the-century policemen soon threatens them all. Peyton must discover the frightening truth behind Drake’s death more than a century ago or she may never be safe in her new home.

The characters were surprisingly relatable and well written. I found myself invested in what happened to them. The mystery aspect of the story was very interesting and quite a bit scary. Usually villains in these type novels are not overly frightening but I found my heart racing in a few parts. I will say that if there was a weakness in the book it was that the dialogue in the first part of the book seemed a bit stilted. This really seemed to improve in the second part of the book, but that could be partly due to my interest in the plot developments.

Overall I’d recommend this book to fans of the genre as well as fans of non-supernatural mystery/romance. I found the mystery and characters to be relatable enough to entertain newcomers to supernatural fiction. The second book in the series, Once Haunted, Twice Shy (The Peyton Clark Series), is scheduled to be released on September 16, 2014.

I received this book as a free advance reader copy from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Review originally posted on www.readeatcraft.com

Peyton has just gotten divorced when this house that used to belong to her great-aunt in dropped in her lap. She takes it as destiny to start her new life redoing the house of her family whom she knew nothing about. Peyton’s new house isn’t in the best shape with all the rain it’s leaking pretty bad. When Ryan is sent to check on her he finds the house in a bad place and offers her a warm place to stay and to help her find someone who can fix her house up. With little coaxing from Ryan’s sister she sets out to get him to be her general contractor on the house.

While tearing apart the house they find old newspaper articles that tell of a young cop searching for a killer known as the Axeman before he died. When Drake starts coming to Peyton in her dreams she learns that he’s tied to the house haunting it you could say. Only Drake isn’t the only sprit hanging around but the Axeman has come back to New Orleans. Peyton needs to figure out how to get rid of him with the help of a little voodoo she may be able to send him away. Plus what about her contractor Ryan who she can’t stop thinking about.

I loved Peyton she's gotten rid of her loser ex and is starting her life all over. The author gives Peyton a perfect partner in house hauntings Ryan. Granted he’s been nicknamed a barbarian I think he’s just what she needs to go with her new life. I also think he’s going to be able to deal with all her supernatural stuff better than most. I’m not sure how I feel about Drake I wanted to like him but he’s kind of this womanizer ghost who is tied to Peyton.

I've purchased a few books by this author but never started them and this one keeps popping up on my news feed so I decided to bite the bullet. However I've been watching Coven of American Horror story that features the Axeman of new Orleans which is super creepy that this novel also features him. I looked him up also btw totally real scared the hebbie jeebies out of me. The story is witty, loaded with humor, toss in a little mystery and a ghost it's a perfectly executed story. I enjoyed Peyton's story and the supernatural elements are done tastefully. Ghouls Rush in is a cozy mystery perfect for a lazy afternoon read.

If there is one thing about me you can count on, it is that I am always down for a good ghost story and the simple fact that no matter how scary or crazy it may be, I am always up for a good read full of all things that go bump in the night.

Okay, that might be pushing it just a little because truth be told, as much as I like a good ghost story, I also happen to be a great big chicken so it was with a little relief that the ghost in this one wasn't all that scary, well, the first one wasn't anyways, the second one? The second one was down right terrifying.

As much as I was excited about starting this one, I have to say the first half of the book moved rather slowly. In fact, it had very little to do with ghosts and more to do with Peyton moving into an old house she inherited from an aunt she didn't even know and trying to figure out how to fix it up. I understand world and character building must take place but I couldn't help wanting just a little more from this one.

More of what I can't tell you but just some more umph maybe. More action and less talk. It wasn't really scary, it had its moments but nothing that made me want to sleep with the lights on or look over my shoulder.

In fact, the ghost part of the story didn't even happen until almost half way through the book and even then, it was introduced very mildly and not threatening or scary at all. It wasn't until the ghost, Drake's story is starting to unfold that we get a sense of more going on. Of another entity around Peyton Ryan, and Drake and one that wants to harm them all.

I did like Peyton and Ryan though and was intrigued by Drake but nothing overly exciting stood out to me other than the mystery of the ax man and who he was.

I am really hoping book two will pick up and there will be less talk and lots more action.

Plot: The overall idea of the plot was really interesting, but the execution left something to be desired. First of all, it took a long time to actually get into the supernatural part of the book, which wasn't really necessary. I did enjoy the plot in the middle part of the book - the mystery was interesting, especially since it was based on real unsolved crimes. The author also definitely succeeded in creeping me out, which is unusual in paranormal romance type books. My main complaint, and the thing the kept this from 2.5 or 3 stars, was the ending. It felt rushed, it didn't really explain much, and it was extremely unsatisfying. Also, there were a couple random "gay panic" moments in the book which isn't a great thing.
Characters: Up until the disappointing ending, the characters were the main thing I didn't like about this book. Peyton was fine, but she didn't feel particularly developed, and I found her to be a bit annoying. Finding yourself is one thing, but she seems really focused on how she was a "cool, fun, rockstar party girl" and wants to go back to that, which isn't really the most productive thing for a 30 year old to aspire to. Ryan wasn't awful, but the fact that he was always calling Payton things like "woman" made me biased against him because I think that is so tool-ish. And Drake was super creepy and it was weird to me that Peyton wasn't at all creeped out by him.
Overall: This book had a really great concept, but it fell flat for me. The author did do a great job creating a scary atmosphere in the middle of the book though, so there is clearly potential there somewhere.

4.5 stars. Peyton Clark has no connection to her personal past, save for the monstrosity of a haunted house that she has inherited from an aunt she never knew about. What made this fun for me was how individual belief systems about all things paranormal collided. It was funny to see Ryan believe in ghosts before Peyton, when it's usually the woman trying to convince the man...followed by some flip flopping. Then there were the dangerous amateur attempts -- everyone knows the danger of Ouiji boards -- followed by a call to the pros. The book stays light on romance, but the scene where Peyton seduces Ryan (to renovate her house) is fantastic. She is completely herself and breaks all the rules of classic seduction to win herself a contractor. My only complaint is that the relationship with Drake needed to be earned a bit more. Meeting a couple of times should not have made her so committed so fast. I needed a little more development in that area to justify her actions in regard to Drake at the end.

What the hell kind of ending was that?

I love the characters and just as the story was about to take that turn for the exciting...it ended! I am not talking a cliff hanger either. A cliff hanger i would understand, but she wrapped it up nice and neat with a weak hint that there may be more for the story.

I guess I am disappointed because I enjoy her writing style and the story has potential to be fun and exciting. Similar to my excitement when I first read The Southern Vampire Mystery series. Then it just ended...

You have earned yourself a second installment read, but Ms. Mallory there better be some conflict!

I will think of this book as 0.5: an Introduction to the world and characters of Ghouls Rush in.

I felt like Ghouls Rush In was a lesson in how seances and rituals are bad. Never play with Ouija boards kids! You don't want to open yourself up to anything bad because that is exactly what happens to Peyton.

Peyton Clark inherits an old dilapidated house in New Orleans that was once owned by her great-aunt. She intends to renovate it and even restore it to its original self. She enlists the help of a hot guy from across the street whose name is Ryan. The story about how they meet and the light banter they share was fun. I really like Ryan and even his sister, at first. His sister is very nice to Peyton but she is the reason Peyton has to deal with some very bad juju now all because of an innocent night playing with an Ouija board.

The house has a history going back one hundred years or more. One of her ancestors (great grandmother?) was a victim of a serial killer called the Axeman who is actually a demon. She survived but I guess he's got some axe to grind against Peyton too.

Peyton becomes aware of a ghost in her house after uncovering some old newspaper clippings behind the walls. The story was about a certain cop, who is now the resident ghost.

At the time of the Axeman murders, the ghost was a police officer who was in love with Peyton's relative and is now enamoured with Peyton. The cops have never been able to solve this case, but Drake wants her to find every bit of information she can. They are both in danger of the Axeman/demon after Peyton was attacked. In order to protect herself, Peyton has to cleanse her house of all malevolent spirits. Ugh! what a messy situation and I kind of wish she would just tell the ghost, Drake, to fuck off because Ryan is falling for her and their relationship is just getting good. H.P. Mallory, Why do you have to make it more complicated?

Ghouls Rush In

I think I've read the majority of H. P. Mallory's books at this point, but have yet to actually finish a series of hers. That may sound worrying, but it's not as bad as it sounds, honest. And she certainly isn't alone in her category of "unfinished". But I think the reason I've always left before the end in the past may be that the story arcs tend to start out really strongly, then get a bit messy later on. For example, I've always found the first book in each series to be the best. I've always, ALWAYS fallen in love with the leading man as she intended me to from page one. And I've always appreciated the heroines, even when they were driving me crazy. But Mallory tends to complicate the hell out of things in latter books. To keep readers interested, naturally, but I think it backfired a little bit where I'm concerned. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for mixing things up a bit - who wants to read about characters whose relationships are 100% smooth sailing? But the things she did to them... Eesh! It almost made you want to just say, "This is too messy and complicated now! Maybe you should move on with someone new and start afresh?" And that's not really the right mentality for a reader to have, is it? I'm meant to be rooting for them to work at it, surely?

Well! What has me very excited for Ghouls Rush In is that, again, it has started fantastically strongly and I'm more than in love with romantic interest Ryan. But things are moving slowly between them. And as far as I know, Ryan's a pretty simple, non-supernatural guy, which hopefully means he won't be doing anything other than supporting our heroine and being generally dreamy. In the past, some of the other love interests have had their own agendas, their own desires for power, revenge, whatever, that has detracted from their hunky BF status, and often even led to them betraying loyalties and other heinous acts. So simple, sweet, handyman Ryan is like a breath of fresh air. In fact, the whole worlbuilding is a lot, lot, LOT less complicated than Mallory usually goes for. Just ghosts and a touch of voodoo so far. I'm loving this paired down, back-to-basics approach. It's allowing me to truly appreciate the characters instead.

Let's talk a bit about said characters. Starting with leading lady Peyton. She's a recent divorcee, just escaping from a marriage that sounded more like a dictatorship. Her ex-husband tried to mould her into the perfect, plain Jane, Stepford wife. Which is a far cry from the fun-loving girl she used to be. She's in the process of shaking off those shackles when her aunt, whom she'd never met, dies and bequeaths her an enormous old house. And her new neighbour? Yup, you guessed it, the delicious and aforementioned Ryan. And he really is dreamy, guys! He's quiet, unassuming, thoughtful, sexy. Hmmmm...me like!

However! There is also the small matter of the ghost of Drake Montague who resides in her new house and also has his eyes on Peyton. This is another thing Mallory likes to do: love triangles. Love them or hate them, they're always entertaining. I just hope she doesn't take it too far. A bit of rivalry is good, but, seriously, the dude's dead! How far can it realistically go?

There's a really interesting plot to Ghouls Rush In based partly on true crime events involving the Axeman of New Orleans. And it's not wrapped up entirely in this book, so I'm eagerly awaiting the next instalment to find out more. And of course, to see how things progress with Ryan.

So what should you take from this rambling review? Well, what I'm trying to impart is that I'm excited for this new series. I'm hoping it means Mallory has learned not to write herself into a bind, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes next.

I considered this more of a cozy mystery than a urban fantasy book. It started out slow and started to pick up halfway through. I liked the fact that it was about ghosts instead of vampires or werewolves which definitely makes it a more interesting love triangle. It was a good read with more realistic characters than most cozies have.

I had a friend that had read some of H.P. Mallory’s other works and so was a fan before these came out. She also raved about this one, so I couldn’t wait to read this. Then just for shits and giggles I entered the giveaway on Goodreads, I usually don’t win on there. I won! So I got the book and decided I had to fit it in ASAP. Then I saw Once Haunted, Twice Shy on NetGalley and figured I would request it. If I didn’t get it and liked Ghouls Rush In I would just buy it anyway. I was accepted. So it is kismet that I am to read these! Or at least that is what I am telling my little deluded self ;)

So I’m happily reading along and I find out that the main story line centers around The Axeman of New Orleans. I was trying to think where I had come across the mention of this before and thought a minute and then it came to me. American Horror Story S3! It took place in New Orleans and one of the characters introduced in that was the infamous Axeman! My nerd-girl in me squealed with glee and I had to pause in my reading and go and check it all out for my self. And, of course, I had to then listen to “The Mysterious Axman’s Jazz (Don’t Scare Me Papa).” Which was a tune written in 1919 by a local tune writer, Joseph John Davilla (the cover depicted a family playing music with frightened looks on their faces). Once my inner Nerd Goddess was appeased, I continued on reading quite merrily. In the spirit of things, no pun intended, I’m now listening to ragtime on Spotify as I’m tappin’ this puppy out. Hey, no one ever accused me of being normal, LOL!

The characters on the book are Fabulous! I want to be friends with Trina and Peyton, I want Ryan interested in me, and I want my very own Drake Montague in the flesh. Sorry to say, I might just throw over poor Ryan for a flesh and hot blooded french speaking Drake. YUM! And you add in a little based on true crime, but with H.P. Mallory’s twist and I am in hog heaven. The flirting between Peyton and Ryan is superbly written. This whole book in fact was just a delight to read and I can not wait to get to Once Haunted, Twice Shy. I do believe I have just become a fan of Miss Mallory’s and will be wanting to read everything she has written to date and to come.

Honestly not sure what I really expected out of this book, it seemed like an interesting concept. Girl moves into house, house is haunted, ghost seduces girl and girl starts to like ghost. Not only does she has a supernatural suitor she has a very alive, very manly suitor. OF course, he is also convinced that he will not get into relationships, especially his cute little blonde neighbor.

Well, that’s the good news. The bad news is when they start their remodel of her recently inherited, ancient plantation home, she finds article after article about a serial killer from the early 1900’s. Intrigued by the fact that her great aunt saved all these articles she started her research into the killers and his victims. The more she searched the more she was disconcerted living in her own home. Odd things kept happening, footsteps upstairs when there was no way someone could be inside. Threatening feelings, the works, but a kindly spirit is also reaching toward her to help.

So what does the genius do?! She has a séance! A séance because when you have a spirits haunting it’s a good thing to talk to them…OR MAYBE you should just get the heck outta dodge. Does she listen to me? Nope. Not only does this séance get her in touch with her nice mystery spirit, it also unleashes a world of hurt onto, mainly herself. That’s karma for you.

While the story is entertaining in a romantic aspect, there is also the suspense and thriller side that I was not expecting. Especially, since I was reading this at gym, by myself, at night. Yeah definitely not what I was expecting, Scared the bejeezus out of me. Overall the writing wasn’t great, the story was interesting but it didn’t draw me in enough to read the second.

"Ghouls Rush In", by H.P. Mallory has alittle of everything for you.

Peyton Clark is now in the position to finally be her true self. Her new life now is so different from her old Stepford wife routine she endured for five years in California with ex-hubby, Jonathan. Peyton thinks it is destiny when she receives the deed to a relative's house, that she had never met yet, on the same day her divorce is finalized. She goes out and buy a whole new wardrobe and bids the west coast goodbye. A home in New Orleans with a rich history of the unknown and things that go bump bump in that unknown. All Peyton sees is a project she can throw herself into.

Her neighbor has a habit of making her blush. He believes the house is beyond repair but not Peyton. It is just what she needs. Peyton Clark falls for her neighbor and a ghost. Which one will be the one for her? Before she can decide that, she faces several rituals with a warlock and a voodoo woman, allows Drake, the ghost, to live in her body, a demon that tried to choke her, and discovering a true cold murder case about New Orlean's Axeman? Has H.P. Mallory got your attention yet? She had me from page one. H.P Mallory's work is truly creative and enjoyable. Her descriptions are stunning. The characters are believable, are down to Earth, and the person(s) down the road from you. One could easily fall into Mallory's world or in this case Peyton Clark's new world. A must read, just be careful of the humor. It might just snick right up on you.

One Word: IMPRESSED! ☺️

Brief review:

I must say, I'm COMPLETELY blown away! What a creepy, funny, scary, fantabulous book!

As a pre-existing HP Mallory worshipper via the Jolie, Dulcie, Lily & Sinjin series' I felt it was important to try this series on for size finally. I am sooo so GLAD I did! Granted, I listened to this book so perhaps that made a difference; that I do not know. I DO know that I found this to be a truly fantastic and entertaining story! I kept finding time to go off & listen to it as I couldn't stop wondering what would happen next!

I'm short, Peyton is a relatively newly divorced and "updated" young woman who has inherited a big old house from an unknown aunt in N'awlins. We quickly learn this is not s normal house and the fun begins! Seriously, I was completely FREAKED out at times! Then a couple minutes later, I was cracking up! Such a fun, fun time!

Simply put, just so well-written in Ms. Malloy's truly creative, unexpected, fun, inimitable style.
I highly recommend this entertaining story FOR CERTAIN. ☺️ :-)

Thanks for stopping by and I truly hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

Cheers!

I'm not sure how others feel, but I'm honestly sick to death of the vampire-romance genre. My fondness for other supernatural beings, such as shape-shifters, faeries, witches, dragons, etc., hasn't waned, but I do find it difficult to find such a novel that really appeals to me. That being said I took a chance with "Ghouls Rush In," and lucky me, I ended up enjoying the story more than I thought I would. It's a well-developed story that's fun, easy, and quick read with likeable (and quirky) characters. The author does a great job creating an eerie and dark haunting of not only the house, but also the heroine, Peyton. Throw in some house-cleansings and exorcisms along with lights blowing up and mirrors breaking and you've got an entertaining read. Quite intrigued with this novel that I look forward to reading book 2, "Once Haunted, Twice Shy" when it comes out in September, 2014, which I've already pre-ordered.

Great start to a new series. As a fan of the authors' other series I was in no way disappointed. This had intrigue, mystery and yummy guys just as you'd expect. I love the setting of New Orleans, what could be better than ghosts, voodoo and The Big Easy! There are so many ways for this series to go and it's only the beginning. I can't wait to see more of all of the characters and I really hope to see a lot more of Trina, what a witty, funny, crazy character. She almost steals the show! Anyone who's familiar with this author and read her previous works will in no way be disappointed, she stays true to form and puts out a complete, thorough, fun read.

Not what I expected

this book was definitely not for me because it doesn't get good until the end. I would have liked for some problems to be resolved in middle of the book. I didn't like that she gets possessed by drake and it's kinda pointless because her having him in her body is worthless. the evil spirit doesn't attack, so what was the point of having him. I don't know if ill get the second book because this one took to , long for anything good to happen. but the second book is free so who knows. I recommend this to those who are having trouble sleeping. read this for the first twelve chapters and you'll fall asleep with no problems.
