To catch a killer…Forensic engineer Kinsley Pierce is used to dispassionately digging into building and structure failures to determine the cause of the failure. But when she starts receiving disturbing death threats, she’s anything but dispassionate. Fearing for her life, she runs to the one place she’s always felt safe. Her hometown, Shadow Lake. But she never expected her best friend’s bossy brother to steamroll in and take over her protection.
Will he work outside the law? Former deputy Devon (Dev) Graham now team member at Shadow Lake Survival insists Kinsley move to the company’s compound for her own safety. He could do nothing else. As a former deputy, he spent most of his adult life protecting others. He also spent years ignoring his attraction to his little sister’s best friend. He will never marry, and his sister would never forgive him if he led Kinsley on only to hurt her. Too bad. He would just have to ignore his feelings. She’s in danger, and he’s the one to watch over her. Whatever the risk. Whatever it takes. Even when they head down an upsetting path of betrayal and false trails that lead to a grisly death, he’ll protect Kinsley with his own life until the killer threatening her is behind bars.

What a wonderful read. Shadow of Fear is about Kinsley and Dev. They have been secretly crushing on each other since they were teenagers but didn't do anything due to a promise they had made with Dev's sister who had fears. Now years later as adults, will they be able to admit their feelings for each other and revisit that promise? Shadow of Fear kept me engaged from start to finish with nonstop action, twists and turns, suspense, and romance. The villian was a surprise for me. I enjoyed how Dev, his mother, and his siblings adopted Kinsley, who came from a dysfunctional family, unofficially into their lives. I enjoyed the close proximity between Kinsley and Dev since Dev and the Shadow Lake Survival team have been protecting her from danger. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Shadow of Fear is a compelling conclusion to the awesome Shadow Lake Survival series. The Shadow Lake Survival team is back with the task of protecting forensics engineer Kinsley Pierce a family friend of one of their members Dev Graham. Intense suspense and expertly placed twists leading to a surprising ending to this smartly plotted, well-paced story kept me reading with anticipation. Wonderful characters who you come to care about breathe life into the story. The tension in the story is intensified by the romantic attraction between Kinsley and Dev that is delayed from developing by a long ago promise made to Dev’s sister. I especially appreciate the way Ms. Sleeman gently and seamlessly integrates faith into the dramatic narrative. I love this book and the series and highly recommend both. Note: Although there are carryover characters from the previous books in the series, this one can easily be read as a standalone. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Shadow of Fear is the exciting conclusion of the Shadow Lake Series. I'm sad to see it end.
Kinsley is so excited to be spending a week with her best friend Jada, revisiting memories and places. When someone starts targeting her Jada's brother, Dev steps in to help. Little does he know that Kinsley has loved him for a very long time, but she'd promised Jada to keep it hidden. Dev calls in his team to protect her and his sister while at the same time keeping the same promise he made to his sister. As they dodge the killer, will they figure out who it is before he gets to Kinsley? You don’t want to miss this one for sure.
This gripping conclusion to an exciting suspense series leaves readers wanting more. I’m so glad the author weaves in characters from past series to keep the connections. I also enjoy learning about the latest developments in forensic technology and the way these state-of-the-art investigative tools are worked into the story. This tale seemed heavier on the romance than the mystery but offers a good read. We see into the depths of the main characters and their struggles as they work through challenging circumstances. It certainly kept me guessing as to who was behind the crimes and threats. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
Wow! What a way to end a series! I totally enjoyed reading these stories about the Shadow Lake team. This series of books will keep you gripped to your seat, wanting to know who the bad guys are and how it will all end. When I read a book by Susan Sleeman, I know I will learn many things I never knew before. This last book in the series is Dev’s story. It starts with action and doesn’t stop until the very last page. The characters go through some pretty intense things: being shot at a couple of times, a fire threat, break-ins, being stalked by drones, and many other crazy things. Dev just wants to protect those he loves, and events keep happening that are out of his control. So, the whole team is called upon to help. I love how they support each other without resistance. Then, when things get crazier, the author introduces us to a new team that we know will be her next group of amazing characters to write about in a new series coming out next year. I’m so excited!! Susan Sleeman is a mastermind at bringing just the right amount of suspense to all her books. You don’t know how it’s all going to end up until the very end! This is what makes a fantastic author! The reader gets so tangled up in the story that they don’t want to put it down. I know I didn’t even want to sleep because I just had to read one more chapter! This book has action, tension, suspense, and a bit of romance—well, maybe a little more than a bit. I highly recommend you pick this book if you love action, suspense, and intrigue, and start reading! The publisher gave me this book, but this did not influence my review in any way; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Kinsley is happily looking forward to spending a week with her best friend at Boulder Lake Campground when she suddenly unexpectedly comes under fire from an unknown assailant. What a surprise when Jada’s brother Dev shows up to get her out of a life-threatening situation. When she and Jada were spending so much time together at the campground as young girls and later as teens, she had developed a huge crush on Dev. She was unaware that Dev was also crushing on her. Unbeknownst to either of them, Jada noticed and separately made both promise her not to date the other one. Jada had an unjustified fear that they would get together, then have a falling out, and she would lose her best friend. She could not bear the thoughts of that. Even in their adult years, she still has that same fear and holds them to that promise. Now they are practically thrown together in close quarters as Dev, his brother Colin, and their teammates at Shadow Lake Survival work to protect Kinsley from someone who seems intent on causing her serious bodily harm. The intense action and suspense, along with romance and an undercurrent of faith were so appealing to me. I found it difficult to put the book down because the author kept injecting twists and turns that pulled me in deeper. I wanted to get to the next page or the next chapter to see what would happen there. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
Dev and Kinsley's story was the perfect end to this series. I will miss all these characters! The author has woven realistic characters into dangerous scenarios that never cease to hook you from the first page! Kinsley is looking forward to spending the week with her best friend at the campground where many of her childhood memories occurred. They have plans to go through memories boxes and relive their fondest memories of that time. However, as she is leaving work, she comes under fire from an unknown assailant but thankfully the man who helps her is her best friend's brother, Dev. Kinsley has no idea why someone would want to kill her! I can't imagine the terror one would feel to suddenly have someone start shooting at you relentlessly! Dev takes Kinsley to the campground to meet his sister, but it becomes apparent that they must all go to Shadow Lake to be safe. I love how all the characters from the previous books are involved in finding out who the would-be assassin is. There is a lot of action with a dash of romance on the side! Dev and Kinsley have had a crush on each other for years but haven't acted on it since Dev's sister made them promise not to! The final chapter was great! Such a light-hearted, fun ending to this series and a great way to say goodbye to all the characters!
Years ago, Kinsley Pierce and Jada Graham became childhood best friends. A friendship that has continued through the years. During that time, Kinsley developed a huge crush on Jada’s brother, Devon/Dev. But Jada made her promise she would not get involved with Dev as she was afraid if things didn’t go well, she would lose her friendship. Up to now, that promise has been kept. What Kinsley didn’t realized was that Dev, former deputy and nowadays a team member of Shadow Lake Survival also had had a crush , but Jada also took matters into her hands and had Dev promised he would not develop feelings for Kinsley nor have a relationship with her. Kinsley is on her way to meet her friend when she’s finds herself under attack when shots are being fired around her. Dev happens to be in the area, and comes to her rescue. From that moment on, Dev becomes her protector, as it seems someone wants her injured and or killed. But who and why? In the midst of keeping Kinsley safe, the hidden feelings between these two is too much to ignore. Will Dev be able to keep Kinsley safe ? Will they finally be able to have a relationship with Jada’s blessing? This was a clean Christian suspense romance that was well written and engaging. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own .
My review today is on the Christian Romantic Suspense, Shadow of Fear. This is book six in the series Shadow Lake Survival. I am a huge fan of Susan's work. I don't think I've ever read a book of hers that I didn't love. This series has been incredible and I look forward to her next one. She is an awesome author.
Forensic Engineer Kinsley Pierce is on her way to the campground that had been an important part of her childhood. She's meeting her best friend to go down memory lane. She is so excited. She got out of her car only to be attacked by gun shots. Her best friend's big brother comes to her rescue. A man she has crushed on for years but had also promised her best friend to stay away from.
Shadow Lake Survival Specialist Devan Graham manages to rescue Kinsley but protecting her is harder than he imagined. This is a woman he has loved for years. He had promised his sister to stay out of Kinsley's life. He must protect her from this killer.
A terrifying story as gun men come out of the woodwork to kill them. God has a plan for these two, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A good plan for peace and not for destruction. Give God your trust and watch Him work in your life.
Shadow of Fear by Susan Sleeman Shadow Lake Survival Series Book Six Devan “Dev” Graham was in the right place at the right time to rescue his sister’s best friend. She is also the only woman he’d ever really loved, but his sister made him promise never to date Kinsley. And so he didn’t. Now she’s in danger from some unknown assailant, and he’ll be there for her. No matter how hard it is to hold those still lingering feelings in. Kinsley Pearce had no idea why she was being shot at. She was the only one in the parking lot. She couldn’t imagine it was intentionally aimed at her, but she was glad to have Dev with her. Kinsley is heading to Boulder Lake Campground to meet up with Jada, Dev’s sister, and nothing will stop her. Fires and other dangers are burning up around Shadow Lake and Boulder Lake. Dev is determined to protect Kinsley and find out who is after her. This is the final book in this series, and it’s always sad to say “goodbye” to the characters, although they often appear in other series, which I enjoy! https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
This book grabbed my attention from the very first line, and it never let me go! I absolutely loved the action-packed story, full of gunshots, fascinating forensics (drones were involved this time!), slippery bad guys, and lots of heroes willing to sacrifice to save the day.
The romance between Kinsley and Devan was clean and sweet, and it worked well because of the past they shared as children. I particularly appreciated Devan’s character development, since we didn’t really get to know him as much during the previous books in this series.
This was a great wrap-up for the Shadow Lake Survival series, and it was fun to see all of the characters from the previous books run through the different scenes…especially all of the kids. Nolan and his Lost Lake Locators series will be next, and those characters are introduced here, which was also a thrill. That is going to be a really interesting series!!
I absolutely enjoyed this book, and I highly recommend it, along with all of the others in the series!
I love this series, this is book 6 in the Shadow Lake Survival series. However, it is a stand alone book. As with most Susan Sleemans books they are all pretty much stand alone books, yet you miss a lot of history of the sub characters and a lot of good reads if you just jump into the middle of a series (yet you can). I love reconnecting with characters from previous books and previous series and how they all reconnect. This one did not disappoint. Kinsley Pierce is so excited about reconnecting with her best friend, but when her best friends brother and her secret crush comes walking back into her life she is not sure she can handle it. Dev Graham can't believe Kinsley is back in town and no one let him know. When her life is in jeopardy he does what comes natural for him and protects her, but who will protect his heart. This book is full of suspense, mystery, drama, friendship and so much more, it is everything I expect from Sleeman's books. I love her writing style and character development. I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion.
This is the final book in the Shadow Lake Survival Series by Susan Sleeman. I always enjoy reading books by Susan Sleeman. Her characters all seem so real. You get do invested in the characters and the suspense that you are pulled into the stories. I also love the fact that she brings in characters from her other series to interact together. This time you get an early introduction to her next group of characters. Her stories are always filled with great characters, action, and suspense. You find yourself eagerly turning pages to see what happens next.
My thoughts: Shadow of Fear is the sixth book in the series but it easily stands alone. Fans will want to read the first five books though. The story starts out with a literal bang and doesn't let up from there. I was left guessing who could possibly be behind the attacks and why. If you like romantic suspense you will definitely want to read this book in any other books written by Susan Sleeman. This will make an excellent gift for someone on your list. I was giving a copy for free and all opinions are my own.
As always author Susan Sleeman starts out one of her books with an exciting scene that grabs the reader and doesn't let them go until the very end! Kinsley is being shot at and Devan Graham comes to the rescue of all people! Kinsley is best friends with Dev's sister Jada and years ago Jada made her promise to never date her brother. Even though Kinsley has had a crush on Dev for years she would never break her promise to Jada. Now they are all adults and Kinsley's life is in danger. Can Dev continue to keep his feelings for her secret? Especially since she is now under his protection. As a killer stalks closer and closer to Kinsley, Dev must do everything in his power to keep her safe.
This is the last of the Shadow Lake Survival series. We are introduced to characters that will be in the next series Lost Lake Locators. I enjoyed the suspense of this one. Having so many suspects kept me guessing as to who was behind the attempts on Kinsley's life and why. The romance between Kinsley and Dev is sweet and I found myself routing for them. A great ending to this series and I'm very much looking forward to the Lost Lake Locators series.
This book starts with an intense scene and ends with such sweetness! I always look forward to Susan Sleeman’s books. So many twist and turns and many things to take away from her characters lives.
Her books do build on each other but can still be read out of order. You will definitely want to read all of the books in the series and that she has written!!
I can’t wait for the new series LOST LAKE LOCATORS… very exciting!!!
Kinsley is a forensic engineer and works in shadow lake. dev is the big brother of her best friend. but now someone is trying to get to Kinsley and she needs help and dev volunteers for the job, but it may take the whole team to find out what is going on and there is also a forest fire that is getting close. this is a page turning story to the end. if you like suspense and some romance you will want to read the story
I loved Dev and Kinsley's "sister's best friend" story! There were definitely some twists and turns I didn't see coming. What a great conclusion to the series! It was fun to "catch up" with some of the Veritas team from Susan's other series, and get a sneak peek of the team that is featured in her next series!
Great romantic suspense! Plenty of twists, engaging characters, page-turning action. I love the cross-over with characters from other books and series, but having read them is not essential to enjoying this story. I was excited for the introduction to the characters o the next series!
You will enjoy reading this Book. I started reading and didn’t want to stop. As I was reading I would think I knew who the bad guy was. But I was wrong. The two main characters made me pull for them to be together. Susan Sleeman is an awesome author.
I enjoying Susan Sleek man's suspense series and getting to know the characters and families. The suspense keeps you guessing. Can't wait for next year
This is another excellent book in the Shadow Lake series. Good plot with a mixture of suspense, mystery and romance. I loved the fun ending with all the characters from this series.
Another great suspenseful read! Clean. Danger filled. I love how they all work together to figure out who's trying to kill her and how we get to see people from earlier in the series and from other series . Great ending!
I didn't like that didn't pray about their problems more. When they did pray 🙏 things changed. I have seen many miracles in my life and in others. Jesus has showed me he loves ❤️ me over and over.
