Pop Tarts and Mistletoe

Being stuck at the airport wasn’t part of my holiday plans.

I was on my way to stay with my best friend and his family for the holidays when a freak snowstorm hit. Now I’m stuck, all planes are grounded, and there are no hotel rooms available. I also have no clue of when I’d be able to get on another plane, so here I sit.

Then I saw her.

She stood in front of a vending machine, scrounging through her purse. When she found her last bit of change, she carefully made her selection. A disappointed look came over her face and she began to punch and kick the vending machine trying to get whatever she’d selected to drop. When it did, she threw her hands in the air as if she’d just made the winning touchdown. Then she bent down and pulled out a package of pop tarts. Pop tarts? Who buys pop tarts from a vending machine?

She was feisty and cute, and I knew I needed to meet her. So, I invited her to sit with me. The night passed quickly, with flights heading out the next morning. It was then I realized I’d missed an opportunity as I watched her disappear into the airport crowd.

However, Father Christmas smiled down on me once again when I discovered that the beautiful holiday angel, I’d met earlier was my best friends sister, and I only had a few days to make her mine.

Such a cute and heartwarming story! One star off because of how often this guy apparently winks during his conversations.

Tropes
- Brothers best friend
- Holiday romance
- Dual POV
- Insta love

The fact I can’t remember the main characters name is a bit of a sign of how much I enjoyed this book. Insta love isn’t my favourite trope and because this is a novella it’s quite a common trope. Too much was put into a short book that it played out too fast. I also found the main female character a bit immature in her thinking

Pass

The characters felt robotic. Like a movie with bad actors. Maybe it's because a novella doesn't have the time to create complex characters. Even the one and only spicy scene was rushed and lacked emotion.

I liked it

This is my first S.L. Sterling read, and I must that I enjoyed it all the way through.

I like badass heroines, and Maya is one of them.
The book is the perfect little blend between spicy, messy and funny.

Who'd ever thought that getting stranded in the airport, would give her, her Mr Perfect.

very cute and great holiday read🎄

This book was cute from the start. I love the simplicity of it but also how there are strong emotions. This author brought romance and steam to the book. The chemistry between Liam and Maya was effortless and easy. I enjoyed reading this book. It was quick and fun to read. Definitely felt the emotions from these characters but was written beautifully. I definitely recommend this novella for others!

I found Maya fun at first but I was soon irritated by her personality, so found myself feeling sorry for Liam who had fallen for her.

I love the ideas behind this book, but it was so short. It felt like nothing could be expanded and the story wasn’t fully told. There was a little bit of spice.

Maya is a travel writer and flying home after being away for years. She came home during her senior year of college, during Christmas break, to find, Matt her boyfriend, had brought another girl home. Acting as if they were only friends with nowhere to go for the holidays. However, she heard he asked her to marry him. She was devastated. He tried saying the distance was killing him. Yet, she had maintained her fidelity. Maya swallowed her hurt and the fact that he cheated on her, and at the end of her senior year, she focused on herself.

Then, she applied for jobs everywhere but anywhere near Boston. She hasn't stopped moving since, but she was finally heading home until they were rerooted due to turbulence. Once on the ground, she finds out that due to the weather, all flights are grounded. By the time she waits in the customer service line until it's her turn they close because there are no more accommodations. Restaurants are jammed-packed. The vending machine only takes cash, so only enough for one item so the last Pop-Tarts it is. After wrestling them out, the truth is she is finally offered a seat at a nice young, sexy man's table, Liam.

They start to talk and laugh and seem to have an easy banter. They seem to have a lot in common and appear to be traveling to the same place. They seem to both have cheating exes. So, they decided when the airport reopened to sit together on their journey to the same destination. Liam grew up in foster care and was staying with a military friend and his family. He had been for the last several years. He had never had a family, so it was nice to have them. Instantly he had taken them to Maya and her to Liam, however, once they reached Boston, they realized they had forgotten to exchange numbers. However, Maya had given him her blog name. So that was something.

Do you believe in star-crossed lovers destined for one another? Do you think it's possible that after all these years with them both reaching for the brass ring of family the Christmas wishing, wanting, hoping, and praying it is now their turn? Me too! A sweet story of disappointment, hopes, and dreams coming true. Short and sweet.

Oh, my cuteness—Pop Tarts and Mistletoe was a wicked fun holiday treat! This short novel made my heart feel all gushy and left a goofy smile plastered on my face. I totally want to re-read it just to get that happy-ever-after glow all over again. A Pop-Tart! As a plot thread! So unique, so unexpected—and so perfectly delightful. If the synopsis pulls you in like it did me, go ahead and start reading. Just be warned: it’s too delicious to put down until you finish it.

Maya, the heroine, was laugh-out-loud hilarious. I could totally relate to her—I’ve beat up a vending machine or two in my college days myself. And yes, strawberry frosted Pop-Tarts are the best! Also, who drinks eggnog without rum? (Not me.) I won’t spoil anything, but her brother gave her a childhood nickname that had me howling when I read why. It reminded me of my own brother, and the family dynamics were spot on and so much fun.

Now Liam—the leading man—was 100% my kind of book boyfriend. I adored him from the moment he met Maya at the airport, but I fell head over heels at the Christmas festival. (You’ll know why when you read it.) He’s sincere, romantic, and totally transparent—no mind games, just honesty and heart. The chemistry between Maya and Liam? Hot enough to warm an entire horse-drawn sleigh ride in the dead of winter. Forget coats, the steam between these two was more than enough.

It took Maya a hot minute to realize Liam was the one, but when she did…? Chef’s kiss. I felt so completely satisfied and happy. I also loved the setup for book two—it’s a romance between Maya’s brother and her best friend, and now I have to know how that story plays out.

This was my first read by S.L. Sterling, and it definitely won’t be my last. I don’t think I’ll ever forget Pop Tarts and Mistletoe, and for that reason alone, I whole pop tart-ly recommend it!

This was a short steamy book. I enjoyed how Maya and Liam worked through some difficulties. She had experienced some emotional abuse from an ex and Liam helped her to see her true worth. Liam had worked through some similar issues so he was able to support her. This is a sweet book with plenty of steam ;) Worth reading!

❄️ Holiday Novella
❄ Brother's Best Friend
❄️ Airport Meet Cute
❄️ Fake Boyfriend
❄️ Instalove
❄️ HEA

Sweet with a little spice for a cute holiday read! Liam and Maya were a great couple, comfortable and at ease with each other from her start. Maya was a travel writer, traveling the world to escape from reality. Liam was a military man suffering from PTSD who was spending the holidays with his best friend's family. I loved the airport meet cute and the way Liam got his second chance with Maya after discovering she was his best friend's sister.

From sleigh rides to first kisses under the mistletoe to hot chocolate with marshmallows, this short read was perfectly festive for the holidays. I wish I could have seen more of Liam and Maya especially what may have happened after the third act breakup. I loved Maya's personality and the way she knew how to take control of her situation. And I swooned over Liam and the thoughtful way he stood up for her. Both Liam and Maya were broken by past hurts so I loved seeing them open themselves up and express their feelings.

The story itself had a great foundation but I struggled with the writing. Conversations felt a little too formal and stilted where contractions should have been used for them to flow more naturally. I would have enjoyed it so much more had this issue not been so distracting. I even thought the instalove was more endearing than I expected. I mostly loved how these two people who were afraid to feel a connection allowed themselves to feel vulnerable and fall for each other.

Is her brother's best friend the man for her?

Maya is a travel writer who has been traveling the world for the last four years. She's now home to spend Christmas with her family. After an extremely turbulent flight, the flight was diverted to an airport in Minnesota. All flights have been canceled, there are no hotel rooms available, and the vending machine is holding her pop tarts hostage.

Liam is getting out of the military and is on his way to visit his friend, Whitty, for Christmas. They'd met when both had been in the military. After Whitty got out of the military, their paths occasionally crossed. Five years ago, Whitty had attended a class that Liam was teaching. He'd invited Liam to join his family for Christmas, and it had become a tradition for Liam to visit every year since. Liam has no family other than his friends. He has no idea who his parents are. He was raised in the foster care system in and out of numerous homes until aging out of the system.

There's an immediate attraction, but her ex did such a number on her that she's afraid to trust her feelings towards him. And when she's offered a promotion, she jumps at the chance to run away. His past has also shaped his feelings, and they've been moving so fast that maybe it’s time to slow down and make this last. Together, can they make their second chance work?

Maya is a travel writer. Three days before Christmas, she is headed home from Bora Bora to Boston, but her plane had to make an emergency landing in Minnesota due to a bad storm. There are no hotel rooms and the restaurants are packed so Maya gets the last package of Pop Tarts in the vending machine.

Liam is stuck in the same airport as Maya and he watches her fight the vending machine to get the Pop Tarts. They end up sitting at the same table and talking. He is in the military and headed to his best friend’s house for Christmas. He was in foster care growing up and has no family so Whitty is like a brother to him.

They talk all night and end up on the same flight the next morning, so they sit next to each other. Liam is a nervous flyer. When they land, they go their separate ways. Maya finds her brother JJ but he says he is also waiting for a buddy of his. Turns out Maya’s brother JJ is Liam’s best friend Whitty. They will be spending the holidays together.

The first night home, Maya and Liam end up in the kitchen and talk and have pie and ice cream. As they are going to their rooms, they end up under the mistletoe together.

I enjoyed Maya and Liam getting to know each other. I can’t wait for the next book.

Dual pov ,stuck in an airport with nothing to do was not part of her plans for the holidays…All planes grounded and get this . No rooms available so another night in the departure lounge with no planes outbound at all …how droll! Who’s that mad woman ,buying Pop Tarts of all things from a vending machine . His smile was a winning one but was it enough ,to work it out before the cat is out of the bag who he is because when it’s revealed that he’s the brother of her best friend ,he fears they’d be doomed ,reached the end . Not the terminal building or the last plane but the last refrain and staying truthful in lt goes swimmingly except for weather . A freak snowstorm hit that was the brusk of it . Do they get a snowshoe in on a new romance or is it the last flight to nowhere fast? There’s soon to be answer to these questions and more ,perhaps if he points her to her store. Great writing and so cute . With a sprig of mistletoe ,he sets her cold heart aglow. Great writing as ever by S.L, the descriptions too, positivity glowing

This is a short sweet story of instant connection and Fate’s blessing as well family dynamics and challenges. Liam and Maya meet when both are stuck at the airport after a snowstorm leads to cancelled flights. They discover that they are both headed to Boston and end up talking for hours while they wait for a flight to Boston. They end up on the same flight and even say their goodbyes to each other, only to discover that they are being picked up by the same person…..her brother who happens to be his best friend. Maya is a travel writer and hasn’t been home for Christmas in years. Joe, however, has been spent the last few Christmas holidays with her family. Now Fate has made sure Maya and Liam meet. Both feel the attraction and chemistry between them, but both have been terribly hurt in the past by an ex who betrayed them. Can they leave the past behind to move forward toward each other?

I enjoyed both the characters and storyline of this book. It is a quick and delightful read.

Liam and Maya meet at the airport when their plane is grounded due to weather, finding out that they are going to the same town. They pass the time talking and even end up sitting next to each other on the flight home. Surprises and twists start as they both greet her brother at the airport and that Liam is staying with her family until he finds an apartment. Sparks fly and backstories show past damage done to their souls, but something wonderful is coming on strong between them. Will they get the chance to find a future? Will fear keep them apart? Will her brother's stupid nicknames for her ever stop? Absolutely loved this romance that hits hard with strong feelings and emotions, changes in life's directions and more. Great chemistry and a wonderful ending that will make you smile.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Maya & Liam. Maya has promised to be home for Christmas. The problem she has had one of the worst flights she has ever been on only to learn that her connecting flight is then cancelled due to weather. The one bright spot seems to be this guy named Liam. He seems to be the one person she can talk to and make the time go by faster. Liam was only planning on joining his friend and his family for Christmas. He never thought he would be trapped in an airport or he would meet such an amazing woman. Little did he know the woman he was getting to know would be a part of the family he was supposed to spend Christmas with. Can these two find or will it just be one night in an airport?

Amazing story by this author. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Two Lonely People Discover Kismet
Maya and Liam are traveling to get to their Christmas celebrations. Travel delays bring them together while waiting for the weather to clear for their flight. After landing, surprise, they are both waiting for the same person to pick them up; Maya’s brother who is Liam’s best friend! Because Maya hasn’t been home in several years tensions are high and her brother is a little harsh towards her. Liam is attracted to Maya and when she needs a wingman to confront her cheating ex and his new wife Liam steps up as her boyfriend, complete with hugs and kisses. It all works out and ends happily. This is a short sweet complicated Christmas with the family story. I received a free advanced copy of this story from Booksprout and this is my opinion. Linda

An adorable short Christmas encounter that takes place in an airport where two lost souls connect unconventionally. Liam who’s sitting very comfortably at a table is watching this very cute and feisty woman bashing a vending machine to get her Pop Tarts. Due to a numerous amount of flights that have been cancelled, Maya is stranded at the airport, hungry, alone and no available hotels she can stay at. Surprising her, Liam offers her a seat at his table and their journey begins. They both feel an inexplicable connection towards each other that will change their lives. This story is filled with unexpected surprises, magical moments and Christmas wishes coming true! A magical Christmas reading 🥰!

Pop Tarts and Mistletoe is the first book in The Happy Holidates Series. It can be read as a standalone short story.

Maya and Liam met at an airport during storm delays. Then they sat next to each other in the plane home. It seemed like that was their goodbye, until they discovered Maya's brother, JJ, and Liam were good friends in the military and Liam was spending the holidays at their home. Both Maya and Liam are avoiding relationships due to past bad ones. Liam acts as Maya's fake boyfriend when they run into her ex in town. Can their fake relationship turn into a real one, or will they let past pain ruin present feelings?

Loved all of it, the story, characters and the setting. Maya and Liam meet and then find out they have someone in common. I feel bad for Maya, she seems like she has everything but her self doubt is high and is holding her back. Liam is just leaving the military and going to set up his life near a friend. They meet and sparks fly then they part and soon meet up again. Things heat up but to get to their happily ever after Maya needs to overcome her self doubt. Very funny and sweet story with lots of heart squeezing moments. Perfect holiday read! A little to hot for Hallmark but would love to see it made for TV.

What started as a meeting at the airport as Liam and Maya both waited for a flight amid storm delays. They also sit next to each other on the plane, and to their surprise, Liam is her brother JJ's best friend. They are stuck with each other for a while because he is staying with them for a while. They enter into a fake relationship when her ex shows up again. Will it remain a fake relationship or will they take the step to admit their feelings for each other despite bad relationships they have had in the past and now have a second chance at a real relationship?

Pop Tarts and Mistletoe is Maya and Liam's story.

Maya is a travel writer headed home for Christmas. Liam is in the military and is headed to a friend's for the holiday. When Maya and Liam meet at the airport, the had an instant connection not realizing who each other were until they landed and Maya's brother was there to pick both of them up.

This is a good story that keeps the fires burning as Liam helps Maya out with her ex and their connection heats up. Fake date turns real with the brother's best friend story that has an emotional ride as Liam and Maya find the HEA.

Strangers on a plane

This was a cute quick short read... Mild steam I mean there's sex but not too much and there's an actual story line. I normally don't care for quick fall in love stories but this was cute. I love a good holiday read with content that I actually care for.

Maya- I wish she would continue her career path and not stop for love however

Liam - I wished we would have gotten more of his storyline as well

This being said I'd like more of their story but for a quick read this was perfect, great writing and I was drawn in the whole time. The cover photo I'll be honest does through me off from the characters in the book though !!

I've read a lot of books written by S.L. Sterling; she is one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

Maya is heading home for Christmas for the first time in four years, she has been traveling the globe as a travel writer. When her plane is grounded she meets Liam in the airport. He seems like a nice guy, they ended flying to the same destination. What were the odds that he was friends with her brother and staying for the holiday?

Both of them have been hurt in the past but he steps in to be "her boyfriend" when they run into her ex. As the two get closer, can anything come from this or will someone be hurt?.

Liam & Maya

I just finished reading this sweet story. This is a quick read but it has everything you need to be a novel. Maya is on her way to see her family when she gets stuck at the airport. She is smart, sweet and pretty. She is at the airport when she meets Liam. Liam is also stuck at the airport. He is handsome, sweet, and nice. He was immediately drawn to Maya. After walking away from each other then did not expect to see each other again. Fate step in. The writing was done beautifully and written read good. This is a great holiday story. Amazing work S.L. Sterling!
