While quite dated, Two Ears of Corn, still is full of solid ideas about local, community based development (while its focus is agriculture, the lessons are applicable to a variety of areas). I first read it while in the Peace Corps and would still recommend it to new volunteers looking for an accessible introduction to themes important for their service. The book deserves credit for being accessible both in language and in length for the average reader while still being useful for an academic or practioner.
Good book for ag development and for grass-roots development in general. Main ideas of integration, baby steps, and not overwhelming people with too many new ideas can be spread across a variety of fields.
A must-read for any Peace Corps volunteer or other aspiring development field worker (or anyone interested in new wave development). Quick and to the point.
This book is very helpful for first time missions work, but also almost entirely just common sense. Not much use to someone familiar with the culture in which they work.
