Brady Francis is an engineering professor who practically grew up in Riverbend, Indiana. When he receives a job offer from Indiana Polytechnic that will help him turn his research in ocean cleanup technology into reality, the decision to move to Riverbend is easy. He soon settles into an open apartment above his Aunt Marlene’s coffee shop and discovers that his aunt’s other tenant is an old friend from college. They quickly pick up their friendship where they left off, with the addition of her clever FBI K-9 tagging along.

FBI Special Agent MJ Reid is an instructor at the Riverbend K-9 Academy. She’s come a long way from being nose-deep in chemistry textbooks, working first in the chemical weapons division of the Bureau, then landing her dream job training FBI K-9s. Her success has always relied on her clear rules and careful detachment from the people impacted by her work. And of course, on her ever-reliable partner, Bear, a border collie lab mix with a well-trained nose. She’ll need her skills and Bear’s nose more than ever on her latest investigation—detecting who is leaking toxins into a nearby town.

When Bear detects traces of the toxin in Brady’s apartment, MJ soon realizes that the people funding Brady’s research have their own secrets to hide. And they’ll have to team up to stop them before it’s too late.

Pawing the Line is Book 4 in the Riverbend K-9 Series. All books in the Riverbend K-9 Series may be enjoyed as standalone novels or as a series.

Too short

It seems like you have just started to read when you reach the end of the book. Your friends are suddenly torn from you and you are left all alone. To wait for the next book.

I enjoyed reading this cozy mystery with likable characters, plenty of suspects and some of the cutest K-9s that I've read about in a cozy. The smoothly paced plot pulled me in as I followed the clues around the twists and turns and was mislead a couple of times by those pesky red herrings. I did finally figure out who was behind the illegal dumping right before I read the reveal. I am enjoying this series and look forward to the next one when it releases.

Pawing the Line, book 4 in K. T. Lee’s Riverbend K-9s series is captivating, intriguing, and a fascinating look inside both the FBI K-9 program and the world of chemical waste and microplastic collection. I was kept glued to my seat as I watched MJ and Brady investigate the dangerous world of toxic chemicals and explore their growing attraction at the same time. There were plenty of twists to keep me guessing - this is a fun and engrossing series and I’m loving it.

While FBI Canines are great, this

Is just a cozy romance mystery with little depth of characters or plot. Not to say that there isn’t a place or time for romance and cozy mystery but don’t expect more. Easy quick fun read. The romance was sweet and not overly done.
