What was just supposed to be a week of fun aboard The Freedom Bliss for Gia Davidson and Grant Lattimore, didn't stay that way. Find out what happens when fate intervenes in Spontaneous Soulmates.
I highly recommend reading Silver Lining first, which is the book where you meet Grant and Gia.
Grant and Gia met on a singles cruise while Gia was with her bestie-cousin, Cammy, and Grant was with his best friend, Sly. While Sly and Cammy are connecting, Grant and Gia spend time together and have a few days (and nights) that neither can forget. However, Grant is fresh off a divorce, and Gia is adverse to commitment (we find out why) so she purposefully avoids him when they are back in Florida. Turns out Gia came back with a pregnancy that she is not ready to reveal to the baby daddy yet.
I can see why people were frustrated with Gia. I understand why she kept the pregnancy a secret and why she was afraid of her feelings for Grant. However, once they were living together and it was clear that he was serious about her, the author should've had them reconcile as a couple quicker because the big reveal on Gia's past happened at the end and then it moved into the epilogue after they decided to be together.
Regardless, I love this friend group and seeing Gia as a mother and Grant as a dad again was adorable!
TROPES: black romance, secret pregnancy, forced proximity/roommates, great friend group, age gap, lawyer hero, tattooed teacher heroine
TRIGGER WARNINGS: parental figure death mentioned, diagnosis during pregnancy, fear of miscarriage, mentions of abortion/memory of abortion discussed (author states which chapters the triggers are in at the beginning of the book)
I was so excited to get into Grant & Gia’s book after I finished Silver Lining. We get to see their story from the beginning on the Freedom Bliss cruise where they first met.
While Sly & Cammy were hooking up on the cruise ship, Gia & Grant were secretly hooking up, planning to take that secret to the grave until Gia ends up 🤰🏽😩🤭 & decides to hide the pregnancy from Grant! Vacation fling done turned Gia into a baby mama😮
The G’s took me for a ride especially Gia! Whewwwww I questioned her a lot about her choices but by the end up the book we understand why! I loved Grant and his attentiveness. He did NOT play about Gia. Even checked his ex wife! lol
Recommend if you love an age gap, secret pregnancy, 🫶🏽
I loved this book so very much. You can tell the time and care it took the author to craft the ‘G’s’ tale from the end result. The timeline between this book and Silver Lining is so seamless that it felt like it was written at the same time. The author gave us a complete story full of chemistry, steam, life lessons, heartache and love.
Georgia was something else boy but as irrational as she was I loved that we got this flawed amazing tatted up teacher as the FMC. Because they shouldn’t have to be perfect to deserve a HEA. Despite a few missteps you really can’t help but love and root for Gia to get over her fears and lock that man down even before you learn why she did what she did.
Grant was everything. Even through his anger the way he cared, advocated and loved on Georgia was beautiful to read. I spent ninety percent of my time reading saying my man, my man, my man. Because he is and I’m not sharing tysm 😌 but it was the way she handled the really difficult topics and situations that surrounds child birth that has solidified why she is one of my favorite authors. Her books have so many levels and the plot twists be twisting.
If you love a good summer fling where you leave with something lol 😉 A firecracker FMC and a swoon worthy and a story full of layers. Get into this dope read. One of my faves this year!
I love the representation of the Bahamian culture in this book. She truly did justice to the history, food, and people of my country and I am proud. The family dynamics were amazing. I love Gia’s relationship with Cam and the dose of humor her parents provided to the story. I must also mention the flawless timeline, which was expertly executed from the first book. Grant is bae. His patience and dedication won me over, and I appreciated how he owned up to his mistakes and took responsibility for his actions, even in challenging situations. On the other hand, I struggled with Gia's character. While she had an unwavering love for her students, her stubborn and irrational behavior throughout the book frustrated me. It was difficult to understand her reasoning, and though I could empathize with her when it was revealed, it felt like a redemption arc came too late for me. My biggest drawback, however, is with the romance between Gia and Grant. I wish there had been more balance in this aspect. I felt that it was overshadowed by Gia’s insecurities and constant pushback and I didn’t get to see the couple’s relationship effectively develop on page. By the time she decided to give Grant a fair chance, it was near the end of the book and everything felt rushed.
This book was too long.Secret pregnancy trope, per usual with a very thin reason included. loved the quick and witty banter. Will someone tell me exactly what Katrece’s problem was. Gia was thrown off her game but recovered in her own time in her own way and Grant loved her for it. They have nasty sex the good kind.
I have been waiting to read the G's book since Chassilyn told us they were coming. Every single time she gave us a little update I was so excited. So please know I did the happiest of dances when she slid in my DM's with an ARC. Everything I was planning to do got pushed to the side so I could finally read what she had for me. Reading a book you've been waiting on is interesting, because the book either lives up to your expectations, leaves you feeling a bit underwhelmed or in the case of Spontaneous Soulmates gives you everything you wanted and then some!!
I LOVED EVERY SINGLE WORD. Full Stop.
I already knew I liked Gia but Grant was a bit of a mystery. So I really appreciated how we started back on the Freedom Bliss. There was something that felt so right about these two, almost like destiny. Now Gia was definitely playing in Grant's face at first, I was giving her a side eye but Grant Lattimore, Esquire was not to be played with. Their first conversation was saturated with sexual tension and when they finally got down to it, I was not disappointed. The more time they spent together the more I wanted them to just be like Cam and Sly and be happy together....but everyone's journey isn't like that. Thankfully neither of them were worried about protection and we got a surprise pregnancy.
So now we have this woman who wasn't looking for anything serious carrying the child of the recently divorced attorney she really liked but had relegated to being just a fling. Again, it feels like they were destined for each other. I won't get into their journey from there because this is definitely something you should experience for yourself. I will say that the way Grant supported Gia was beautiful. He advocated for her and we live in a world where that doesn't always happen for Black women. So to see it, even on page in a fictional story, was great. The friendships and family dynamics were *chefs kiss*.
I love when I read a book and you can tell that the author took their time crafting the characters, creating the timeline and really allowing the story to come together seamlessly. That's exactly what Chassilyn did with my G's. Yes, MY, G's. This is me telling to go ahead and add this one to your TBR, actually move it to the top. You won't regret it.
When Chassliyn announced that Grant and Gia were getting their own book I just knew their story was going to be good and it did not disappoint. I loved the fact we got to see their journey from the beginning at The Freedom Bliss until the birth of their child. Grant is definitely a sliver fox bae with how he was with Gia and being by her side the entire time. Gia proved to me that not every hot girl just thinks about getting it in.. sometimes it more to her story. This story was definitely worth the wait and I can’t wait to see what’s next from Chassilyn!
I enjoyed this one. Wasn’t sure I would make it til the end due to how slow it was going. Grant and Georgia seemed great til they weren’t. Sly was just that….. Cam was the best bestie a girl could have. The ending was not what I thought. But I am satisfied with it. It was a great way to end the story.
I've waited soooo long for Gia and Grant's story. It was well worth the wait and beyond. I loved everything about these characters. I hope another book on the wedding is next pretty please.
