This book has nice pictures but it didn’t impress my soon to be 3 year old. I understand that there is a big back story to Mzee and Owen but I think it would be better told for an adult who loves animals. A full story of them with professional photos of the two through out. I just really can’t picture this being any small child’s favorite book. For them, of course a hippo and tortoise would be best friends and they would probably talk like people and go on adventures together.

"Owen & Mzee: A Day Together" is a simple board book that depicts the special bond between Owen the hippo and Mzee the tortoise.

The text is accompanied by actual photographs instead of illustrations. I would recommend this book for toddlers.

Yes, it's a kids book, but it's great (and takes about two minutes to read).
