Princeton Review AP Chemistry Premium Prep is a good choice for this course. By outlining a full year's worth of material quite simply, it serves as a useful resource for different levels of learners. What I like is that, besides AP level, some things that you learn in Chemistry Honors is also presented. This is a wonderful pick if you take AP Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, or need to enhance your chemistry background. That said, while it does what it promises in reviewing, this book does not really go into detail like an actual AP Chemistry course would. Some explanations sound like summaries as opposed to breaking things down and showing more detail, so if you're looking for something heavily detailed, you may want to pick this up alongside a textbook or extra practice problems. In general, this book is great for reviewing if you want something clear and organized to go over key concepts without getting buried in actual work. Add to that practice tests and online resources, and this book boasts an added advantage. It does not quite substitute for an AP class, but it is a handy study tool.
I would rate this book around 4 out of 5 stars because it does a great job covering the full AP Chemistry curriculum in a clear and structured way. It’s useful for students at different levels, from Chemistry Honors to AP, making it a flexible resource. However, it doesn’t go into as much depth as a real AP class would, so students looking for highly detailed explanations might need to supplement their studying with other materials. Despite that, the practice tests and online resources make it a solid review book for exam prep.
