My Lighthouse: A Story of Finding Your Way Home

Rate this book
Join a reluctant young lighthouse keeper, his extremely round cat, and his trusty rowboat Rockshore in a whimsical and tender tale of finding adventure, losing your way, and learning to appreciate what you already have.

Fynn has always lived in a lighthouse—just like his father, and his father, and his father before him. His dad insists that living in a round house with a big lightbulb on top is special, but Fynn doesn't see how. All he knows is that it's weird—and often inconvenient.

Exasperated by trying to fit all his favorite things in a round house and tired of being so different from everyone else, Fynn runs away from his lighthouse, seeking adventure on the sea. But when the winds and waves rise and things get very, very dark, Fynn finds that the light he needs most is the one that he's known all his life. Inspired by Rend Collective’s hit song of the same name and paired with whimsical illustrations by New York Times bestselling illustrator Lee Wildish, this is a tale families will return to again and again.

Thank you PRHAUdio for the complimentary audiobook!

Listened to this audiobook with my toddler at bedtime. A good story. This book, we followed Fynn. He doesn't like living in the lighthouse where all furnitures are round-shaped. He wants to live in a square house like everyone else. His dad told him that his round house is special but he doesn't understand why. One day he took the boat out to sea for an adventure. It gets dark and he was lost. Until a light from the distance appeared. He uses the light to guide him back to shore. Once near enough, he realizes that the light belongs to his lighthouse home!! He now realizes how special his home is.

The audiobook was good with waves sound when Fynn was out at sea.

My Lighthouse” is the cutest children’s book about Fynn’s generational home—a lighthouse, where his dad, grandfather, and great grandfather had lived when it was built. The thing is, Fynn didn’t like living in a lighthouse. He wanted to live in a normal house like all his friends. Soon he discovers what makes his house special.

I enjoyed this story tremendously. It’s an imaginative adventure tale with adorable full-page illustrations and so much heart. I can’t wait to read this one to my grandson. I’ve little doubt he will love it as much as I do!

First Line: This is a story about a house.

I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.

Fynn has always lived in a lighthouse and has always wished he didn't. Then one day, he becomes lost in the ocean and realizes perhaps he never appreciated what he has had all along. I liked this cute book. The illustrations are bubbly fun, with a lot to see and discover on every page. Plus, Fynn has a cat (instead of the usual adventure dog companion), who not only wears his own life jacket, but his name is Boulder. Adorable. A great book for kids who help to see that some of the best things you have are sometimes right in front of you.

A boy is tired of living in his family’s lighthouse, so he sets sail for adventure in his rowboat only to get caught in a storm, which forces him to head back to home by way of the light shining from his house. Gratitude ensues, and he learns not to long for anything else but the confines of what is familiar. Quirky artwork.

Fynn has lived his entire life in a lighthouse, which he hates. Everything is round, round, round! He wants to live in a square house and be normal like all his friends. One day he decides to set off to sea in search of treasure but when his little rowboat is caught in a storm, he learns the value of a lighthouse. This artwork is amazing and this is definitely suitable for a group read aloud.

Love, love this story! Sweet and funny. I was smiling right from the start. And the illustrations are fabulous! A story about discovering how special your different home is. It’s also about adventure and finding that guiding light when things get scary.
