Being the last witch in the village is a lonely existence.
Elisette was comfortable with her quiet cottage life, practicing her craft as she pleased and helping ease the ailments of whoever felt brave enough to make the journey to her little corner of the woods. Ostracized since birth because of her magic, she spent years learning to coexist in a place that frowns upon her very existence.
When concerns arise about her father, she uncovers a festering secret that he held close out of a sense of paternal duty until it was almost too late to fix. As he resigns himself to his fate, Elise takes it upon herself to solve it. Her solution requires turning to the last person she’d ever associate with: the man who created the problem in the first place. Only his trade is… impossible.
After sleepless nights, useless trips into the village, and copious amounts of research, Elise finally hunts down a lead. When a late-night ritual for guidance delivers that lead in the form of a beautiful, towering goddess who insists on helping, she finds more than she ever bargained for. Sylvane could be the answer to filling a void that Elise didn’t even know she had, changing the course of her life forever.

I devoured this book! I’m sad it was only a novella, I loved the story and the characters including, of course, Silas, the black cat. An addicting queer, witchy read with a little bit of spice 😍 thank you for the arc!
This novella gave me everything I wanted: light-hearted whimsical sapphic spice.
Author, Wren Cartwright sprinkles their magic in layers throughout this novella, taking readers on a delightful unravelling of well-loved and beautifully developed characters with on-point depictions. I couldn’t get enough and inhaled every last page with enthusiastic haste.
Cosy cottage core witchy vibes— Silas the witch’s cat/familiar was a stand out favourite and all the solitary witchy-ness, potion brewing, nod to deity worship/ritual and pinch of spice made for an excellent read.
The cover art is stunning and choice of illustrations to introduce each chapter a lovely inclusion that initially had me pausing to absorb before delving back into the story.
Family bonds, love and loyalty play a significant role in the plot, our FMC Elisette (Elise) is extremely devoted to her family and will do almost anything for them. Character progression and development between Elise and Sylvane, was just so very satisfying if not brief (novella constraints) and quite frankly, adorable!
My only complaint overall… I wanted more! Really hoping an expansion novel is on the cards. And if not… I will just reread Bound and Bewitched repeatedly to get my fix!
Tropes: Only one bed Forced proximity Magic Cottage core FMC X FMC
Bound and Bewitched by Wren Cartwright is a cute novella that follows the story of a witch named Elisette. Elise knows what it's like to be judged for simply being different. However, she doesn't let the townsfolks gossip deter her from working up special brews and remedies for them when they come calling.
When her father's land is at risk at being taken, Elise prays to the goddess Sylvane for help. Will Elise and Sylvane be able to save her father's home? And perhaps maybe find each other in the process?
I thought Elisette was so adorable. She's honest and self doubting, but wants to take care of everyone regardless. She's so wholesome, you can't help but root for her. Sylvane isn't your typical vengeful god. But one of love and admiration, especially Elise.
Overall, this story was super cute with a little spice thrown in. I enjoyed this read and look forward to more by this author.
I received an arc of this for an honest review. Which will come once I get some sleep and put my thoughts together.
Bound and bewitched.
So this was a novella book which had me worried as I haven't read previous works so felt like I was going into this book and wouldn't understand it. I was so wrong it felt like a stand alone fun quick read. I feel into the world and charcters quick didn't feel like I was missing back stories plot ect. I really enjoyed this book was a cute quick read. I loved the pictures for each chapter start that was very cute. I will look into the authors other works as this was a fun read.
I don't really read many lgtbq+ books if any because hasn't intrested me in any way, But this was just the right mix of good story and a love story that wasn't forced and the spice was not to much. Right amount for the story not just spice to add pages.
Witches, Cottage core vibes, And a cat that steals the show.
Such a cute little novella, fast read, easy to follow, predictable but still a good read. Good character development and representation between Elise and Sylvane.
BLURB: When concerns arises about Elise’s father, she uncovers a festering secret that he held close out of a sense of paternal duty until it was almost too late to fix. A cute cozy quick read with a hint of spice! This beautifully descriptive novella transported me to a cozy cottage core realm filled with magic, witches, and deities. The graphics at the top of each chapter are a cute added bonus that I love finding in books! If you’re looking for a quick, lighthearted, LGBTQ+ friendly read, this book is for you!
i was delighted to find out that i’d been selected to be an ARC reader for wren’s new book. this is the first time that i’ve ever had an opportunity like this so i was very excited to get started!
bound and bewitched follows our main character elisette, a lonely witch outcast by her village who fills her days with potion making, spending time with her black cat silas, healing the occasional daring townsfolk, and loving her family fiercely. when elisette finds out that her father had been keeping a secret from herself and her sisters, elisette must make a bargain with one of the towns council members to save her family home. elisette performs a ritual for a deity in hopes that she will find some answers and meets sylvane, who promises to help her on her mission.
this little novella is full of all of those cosy, cottagecore fantasy vibes that lovers of lighthearted reads will enjoy! as a big fantasy lover myself i was excited to dive into this cosy little sapphic romance and found it was a very easy read.
my only real issue i had with it is that i would have liked to have seen the relationship between our two leads fleshed out a little more, but with this only being a novella i understand that you can’t always have the detail of a larger book, so this isn’t a big moan from me it’s just more my preference when it comes to reading any sort of romance! (i’m a sucker for a slow burn what can i say). overall, this book is a very easy and lighthearted read for the lovers of sapphic witchy romances and is a fun and simple little story but easily enjoyable!
this book will be released on the 21st of june so for any of you out there that enjoy a little gooey and gushy gay romance and the lovers of all things witchy and whimsical, keep your eye out for it! an easy and enjoyable read for pride month 🏳️🌈
This is a cozy, enchanting novella that has cottagecore aesthetics, witchy charm, and heartfelt romance. This story centers on Elisette, the last witch in her village, who has learned to live a solitary life in her quiet woodland cottage. Her days are spent practicing her craft, easing the ailments of the few brave souls who seek her help, and coexisting in a place that frowns upon her very existence.
When she and her sisters realize that her father is deeply in debt to a predatory councilman in the town, she is determined to solve the problem that her father has resigned himself to. Elise makes a counteroffer and is tasked to find a rare plant with healing properties. Her search leads her to a beautiful and somewhat forgotten goddess named Sylvane, who offers to help. This unexpected alliance not only brings a potential solution to her father's predicament but also fills a void in Elisette's life that she hadn't even realized was there. The budding romance between Elisette and Sylvane is sweet and tender, providing the emotional core of the story.
The witchy, cottagecore setting is beautifully described, creating a cozy backdrop for the story's events. The world-building is subtle yet effective. It manages to enhance the atmosphere without overshadowing the central romance. The ending is particularly satisfying and is a fitting conclusion to a story that celebrates sapphic love, family, and the magic of finding one's place in the world.

A cute, cosy fantasy novella with all of the cottagecore vibes. A perfect read for someone who is looking for a light, easy read.
Bound and Bewitched follows Elisette, the last witch in her village, who lives a lonely life. Often shunned by those around her because of her power she lives in a cottage in the woods. When Elisette discovers that her father is in trouble she is prepared to do anything to help him - enter the goddess Sylvane who promises to help Elisette in her mission and in doing so turns her life around.
The characters in this book were kept to a minimum - but all of them meaningful to the plot. In the context of a novella they were reasonably well developed and I felt that I could connect with them and how they were feeling as the story progressed.
I didn’t have any huge issues with this novella - it gave us exactly what it said on the tin. I’d have like to have seen more development of the relationship between Elisette and Sylvane but I do understand that there’s not really room for a huge detailed development in a novella - I’m just a slow burn kind of girl. I think perhaps I’m not much of a novella reader - this was my first dabble into a novella.
Overall I think that if you love a witchy, easy read this is the book for you. If you enjoy a novella I’d definitely recommend this book. I’d advise that you may struggle if you’re normally a big fan of high fantasy with lots of world building because there’s just not room for that in the novella format. An enjoyable little read.
Thank you to the author @ for the eARC provided in exchange for an honest review. Bound and Bewitched releases today!
This is such an amazing novella. The way the author describes the main characters, gives such clear imagery in your head (which is a big thing for me as I struggle most of the time to picture what characters look like even after reading descriptions). The plot itself was an emotional rollercoaster with the author managing to create empathy towards the characters. The way the story progresses has a level of suspense without it being dragged out waiting for a conclusion. The level of spice was also just right for the length of the story, it didn't overpower the plot and it felt like a natural progression. Also loving the LGBTQ+ rep in the story. Kinda wish it was going to be part of a series as I wanted to follow the characters on another adventure but also at the same time, it was just the right length and it wrapped up beautifully with all loose ends tied up.
The premise of this book sounded absolutely amazing, and Wren certainly did not disappoint. I felt a strong connection with Elisette as she felt outcast and lonely, even when surrounded by people. She tried her best to help everyone who overcame their prejudice to seek her out, and showed empathy in situations when it wasn’t required of her. I sincerely enjoyed the aspects of witchcraft embedded throughout the story and the wholesome relationship between Elise and Sylvane. I will 100% be purchasing this book and rereading in the future! It was also the perfect way to kick off pride month.
Bound and Bewitched by Wren Cartwright isn't my usual pick, but I enjoyed it. The cottage core realm filled with magic, witches, and deities was enchanting. Silas, the cat, added a whimsical touch, and I liked watching the relationship between Elise and Sylvane unfold. The LGBTQ+ friendly representation felt natural. Overall, a light-hearted, enjoyable read.
This cosy WLW novella was a perfect way to break up a very plot heavy series I’m in the middle of. The world building for such a fluffy romantasy was really well done, effortlessly whisking me away into Elise’s whimsical cottage in her village. It’s a quick read that doesn’t skimp on the warmth and tenderness between both FMC’s, I’d highly recommended this to those seeking a light-hearted break and a dose of feel-good storytelling.
I eagerly dived into this ARC and it did not disappoint. The blend of witches and goddesses never fails to captivate. Elisette, the protagonist, stands as the last witch in her village. With her father withholding a secret, Elisette feels a profound duty to protect her family. She calls upon her patron goddess to aide her in this quest. This novella is a sapphic fantasy, exploring themes of forced closeness and intricate emotions. I really enjoyed it. Special thanks to @wrencarwrightauthor for inviting me to join the ARC team.
I was very fortunate to get an ARC of Bound and Bewitched and would like to rate this a 4/5!
I wish this novella was much longer as it had everything that I absolutely enjoy. I quickly fell for the characters, the cottage core, the magic, the romance, and especially the flow of the storyline. The family vibes in the story really struck me and I loved how they would do absolutely anything for each other. I enjoyed reading through Elisette’s journey and the trials she goes through and the imagery in the authors writing was perfection!
This novela is released this Friday 6/21! Grab it and enjoy this as much as I did!
Bound and Bewitched By Wren Cartwright Available 6/21/2024 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was selected to receive an ARC of this cozy, witchy read! While this is a quick read, the author did a great job world building without it being overwhelming or getting side tracked.
✨Witchy vibes/FMC 💕Goddess love interest 🌈 Sapphic 🐈⬛Silas the black cat 🍄 Cottagecore ☕️ Cozy Read
There’s family loyalty, town gossip, Forced Proximity, witchy vibes, AND only one bed?!
I loved watching the two main characters find each other; it was pure, it was steamy, it was everything the other needed! 💕✨ If this was a longer book, I would have loved to see their relationship develop more a bit more before diving in, but I was hooked from the start and enjoyed the story very much!
This was a such a cute little novella, themes included; 🏳️🌈 Lesbian romance 🧙♀️ Witch female main character 🧝♀️ Goddess/deity female love interest 🍄🟫 Cottagecore vibes 🌿 Plants and spells 🐈⬛ Black cat (of course as the witches best friend)
Being a novella it moved at a faster pace then most of my romance/romantasy reads but it was easy to keep up with as the author did quite well at world building without overwhelming the mind with too much descriptive text.
This is my first ARC read and I am supremely grateful for the opportunity.
I was lucky enough to receive the ARC for this book-
I really enjoyed the book- it was easy to read without being too heavy.
The world building and characters were beautifully written, and while it’s a short novella, I found I became attached to the characters. Especially Silas!
The cottagecore was perfect, and made me wish that was my own home!
It’s a good light read, especially for pride month!
This book was so delightfully enjoyable, I’m not normally a Novella reader so my only flaw was that I would have loved for this to be longer so we could ready about the MCs relationship building at more of a slow burn pace!
This book releases on the 21st of June and if you love things a little witchy and romantic plus kicking into pride month with an adorable sapphic couple is the best was to do it! There’s nothing that can top a cozy vibe and this novella hits the on the head perfectly and I couldn’t recommend it more!
I adored this book. I had just been wishing for something lighthearted to read, and this book was exactly what I needed. It was the perfect palate cleanser after my previous reads.
I was delighted to be able to read this beautiful novella as an ARC reader. It was a cosy, magical and and gentle read, perfect for readers that are new to fantasy and long term fantasy lovers alike. Wren Cartwright paints the characters and environment so effortlessly, and made me fall in love with the main character and the cottage core world from the very first chapter.
I really felt for Elisette, the main character, a kind witch who is treated as an outcast, with fear and misunderstanding, despite the fact that she enjoys her cosy life, crafting and healing in her cottag. Despite my heart going out to her, I didn't feel super sad, and wanted to know more about her character and her story. I'm a lover of Studio Ghibli films so I was so happy to get a very similar feeling of the cosy cottage, magic and creatures, plus that same hint of sadness as you relate to the characters feelings.
Aside from the beautiful scene setting and characters, the story itself drew me in straight away and even though the action doesn't start immediately; I wanted to know more about the main character and to see how her story developed!
The love interest is such a different character to other books I've read and I absolutely LOVED the level of spice. I haven't read any WLW books before, but I really enjoyed it! The level of Spice was perfect for this story, and it was hot, but in a really romantic and slow way which was a nice change to the more dark fantasy books I usually pick up. The way Wren Cartwright explores the relationship between the two women but also the main characters relationship with her own sexuality was really tastefully done and I was just rooting for them both so much throughout.
This novella also has some adventure aspects to it, which she definitely could have carried on with to make a longer story, but actually for a novella of this length, it was the perfect amount. As a reader, I felt like I'd been taken on a journey but it never became slow or boring, it was just right.
The end of the book had such a great twist, I never saw it coming and I just adored the ending so much. It felt like the perfect ending to this magical tale - so heartwarming and joyful which makes a nice change from a lot of fantasy books I've read!
All in all, I would highly recommend giving this novella a read. It's got everything I could want from a novella - quick character development and world building, darling characters and a satisfying ending, all with the most gorgeous magical, witchy, cosy vibes. I read it in a day and stayed up listening to cosy cottage ambiance to finish it which I really enjoyed :)
Thank you Wren Cartwright for the ARC opportunity 🫶🏻

Just over 100+ pages for a quick read, with CHAPTER ART!
Being a novella I had wanted a little more between the two main FMCs, but I absolutely loved this book. Cozy, witchy, and a little spice for good measure. Can't ask for more!
"To finding the strength to grow and the courage to heal." This intro 🤌🏻 This hit me on such a relatable basis from the last few years I have been living.
Bound and Bewitched is a beautifully written romance novella. The story itself is playful and lighthearted, making it an accessible read to any lovers of Sweet & Bitter Magic by Adrienne Tooley or ACOTAR-style fantasy.
Its strong points definitely lie in the adorable relationship and extensive worldbuilding of the village where it took place. One thing I would mention is how this goes overboard in some areas, with the entire first half of the novella being a very gradual, landscape-focused introduction. I would have loved to see some more plot and adventure driving the story. Similarly, to really get into the character’s emotions, some sentences would have benefitted from show don’t tell and rewording them to be in the active voice rather than passive! That being said, once the scene was set and I passed the halfway mark of the novel, it had grown on me and the pace picked up into this exciting exploration of love (I didn’t mind so much that the main catalyst of the novel was placed in the background as I enjoyed the romance). I was also intrigued by how excruciatingly relatable it became for anyone who’s struggling with the pain of leaving behind their childhood home. I wasn’t expecting this to hit me as hard as it did, but all the vulnerable descriptions of memories and a life lived really struck me.
Overall, I see what the author was doing with making a cute, short novel that allowed the reader to get lost in this new world and end up yearning for more. This was a very pleasant read, and with a bit of editing, I think it could become just that little bit more fabulous. Thank you so much for the sapphic witch and the story I didn’t know I needed to read today!
Wren has written a lovely book including interesting characters and a beautiful love story that I found flowed well and with an easy feel. This book is not overly complex nor long, which should be appreciated. Often a novel can be overtaken by a desire to create 900 page worlds with huge twists and cliffhangers when sometimes all you need is a happy, quaint story.
I loved Elise and her life; she has a good story and I hope you all read it!
This book has humour, a protagonist that is independent (31, home owner, worker & cat mum!) and a little spice!
None spoiler, kind of spoiler - my favourite line between to beautiful characters! 'You are exquisite. These things you speak of, they mean nothing to me. I see you, and your soul, and your softness, and I find you to be everything I have ever wanted. And your eyes... like spring leaves. I've never seen such a stunning shade of green'
The only reason for my star rating is I wish the story was more fleshed out and longer! This could have easily been developed further and added some more depth... however on contemplation, the way it is may be exactly how it should be!
It was refreshing to read something with an easy flow and was a change of pace from my usual heavy reads. I would recommend this to any reader; this fits fantasy but without being too 'all in' for those looking to dabble into the fantasy realm. I would also say this may take your fancy for a palette cleanser between series, want to meet a new world or perhaps try this wonderful authors writing style!
Thank you Wren, for allowing me to be an ARC reader for you.
Thank you Wren for the ARC copy, I received this book for free and this is my honest review.
Wren mentions how they took inspiration from ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ and ‘Stardust.’ As a huge fan of both those novels and their subsequent film adaptations, I was able to recognize these inspirations for this whimsical story they have created.
This is the most perfect, cozy read I have come across in a while; the whimsical witchy cottage core vibes and the perfect amount of spice to a lovely sapphic romance leaves you warm and content. If you are in a reading slump or looking for something with a magical whimsy twist with a happily ever after, this should be your next read.
Being the town’s outcast, Elisette was comfortable living by herself in her cozy cottage practicing magic, passed down by her mother. Suddenly she discovers her father is about to lose his house, her childhood home, a place she has so many fond family memories. She makes the decision to take the burden of saving her family’s home. But this is not a simple task, and she does not have a lot of time to produce a solution. Out of necessity and overwhelmed, she asks for guidance through a magical ritual, only to find she summoned a beautiful goddess who decides to help her with her tricky situation. However, throughout the course of their journey together, they end up falling in love. Throughout this journey of love and doing what is right, Elisette discovers not only her place in this world but how to love herself and be loved.

Review
I cannot put into words how wonderful this book was. I wish it had been longer! I wish I could have buried my head in the life of Elisette and Sylvane for 100s of more pages. Their love was so wholesome, and the world that was created in such a tiny amount of pages is detailed, whimsical and full of cottagecore vibes.
I felt utterly loved and understood while reading this book. It felt like it was wrapping warm, loving arms around me and telling me everything was going to be okay. Sometimes a book doesn't need to be long and complex to give us an emotional connection to the characters. This is a testament to that. With less than 130 pages, Cartwright introduced us to, and fleshed out, a whole family and several side characters with meaningful interactions with the FMC and complex personalities all unique to themselves.
The writing flowed perfectly, and world building was consistently woven into each sentence in order to build a bountiful image of the world we were reading about and all the people in it.
This is definitely going to become a comfort read of mine.
This novella had an intriguing premise that truly delivered, exceeding my expectations. Elisette's character resonated deeply with me; despite being surrounded by people, she grappled with feelings of isolation and loneliness. Her empathetic nature and willingness to help others, even when not required, made her a compelling protagonist. I thoroughly enjoyed the enchanting elements of witchcraft woven throughout the story, as well as the heartfelt relationship between Elise and Sylvane.
The novella is masterfully written, with the author's descriptions painting vivid images of the characters in my mind—an impressive feat, as I often struggle to visualize characters even with detailed descriptions. The plot was an emotional rollercoaster that fostered genuine empathy for the characters. The narrative maintained a captivating pace, keeping me engrossed without unnecessary delays.
The romance aspect was delicately balanced, fitting seamlessly into the novella's length and enhancing the storyline without overshadowing it. Additionally, the inclusion of LGBTQ+ representation was a welcome and well-handled aspect of the story. While part of me wishes there could be more adventures with these characters, the novella concluded gracefully, wrapping up all threads of the story with satisfying closure.
