Mason Ball writes a history of his father - Murray Ball's life. Murray Ball was a cartoonist best known for his "Footrot Flats" series, but he also drew the "Stanley" and "Bruce the Barbarian" cartoons. The Footrot Flats cartoons for me, were an iconic part of New Zealand's culture.... and I really wish that they could be reprinted - my copies of the books are falling to pieces, having been read and re-read time and time again - not just by me but also by my family and the next generation too. This biography of Murray Ball's life shows where Ball senior got the ideas and inspiration for the much-loved characters of the series - Wal, Dog, Cooch, Cheeky Hobson and the rest. The book is illustrated with many of Ball's cartoons - a real pleasure to see.
